Fantastic experience. I was able to get a seat on a Saturday night on a whim. Best decision ever. Everything was delightful, but the Japanese eggplant and Chilean Seabass roll were stellar. The eggplant was perfectly cooked with slightly crisp outer skin that melts in your mouth. The Seabass is how I ended the meal and it was absolutely worth every buttery morsel. The scallops are of course fresh not previously frozen, and they were prepared perfectly. The Scottish salmon sashimi sprinkled with truffle was delectable. To top it all off the service was superb. It helped that I happen to sit next to a few regulars who recommended some of the dishes. Everyone was friendly and very attentive, even though the restaurant was packed. A new favorite.

Google
had dinner for two before a show at Vibrato next door, sushi menu was extensive, comparably priced compared to others nearby (Katsuya, Kiwami, etc). sushi was fresh, tasty, and sake list was plentiful (they even had my favorite kikusui). Service was fast, attentive, and friendly. Highly recommend for a date night away from the usual spots on Ventura or the other side of the hill!

Google
Restaurant Shu is my go-to spot, and I can’t recommend their truffle pasta enough! I come here weekly just to enjoy this incredible dish. The pasta is perfectly cooked, and the truffle flavor is rich and savory without being overpowering. The presentation is always beautiful, and the portion size is just right. The staff is friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. If you’re a truffle lover, this is a must-try dish!

Google
Need I say more? WOW. Came here on the recommendation of a client and holy moly it’s soooo delicious. We made 4 choices (blackened miso cod, toro hand roll, yellow tail hand roll, and picachu roll). I can’t imagine anything not being delicious on their menu. Perfect amount of food for 2 people. We also got 1 side of rice to share and 2 hot green teas. It’s very fresh and you can taste the quality of the ingredients and how much the chefs design their menu. Thank you for a meal we won’t forget! Ambiance is relaxed and unpretentious, staff is incredibly polite and really care about making your meal perfection.

Google

Google
Food and service are always amazing. Never a let down. Sometimes I’d say the servers are far too kind and honest lol.

Google

Google
Came in last minute to grab a bite with a date after a movie. Service was good, food was good. Solid spot for a quick sushi detour.

Yelp
What an amazing place. I always say you pay for what you get and this place is top notch. The sushi is fresh the service is impeccable and they are located in a nice shopping center off Beverly glen next to a well known jazz bar. Everything I try here is always amazing. They are kind enough to allow modifications and the ability to make your own super roll. You can't go wrong with this place or anything on the menu.

Yelp
We finally tried a sushi spot I've heard great things about on New Year's Eve. The fish was very fresh and good quality, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The menu has a fusion style, which will probably appeal to a lot of people, but I personally prefer more traditional Japanese cuisine. The prices are reasonable--not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either. Overall, it was a nice experience, and I'd come back, but it's not at the top of my list. The service was really great, we were grateful for the staff working on New Year's Eve and they had a great attitude about it. *It looks like they can accommodate parties for up to 8 people for anyone with a big group.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best sushi spots in LA! Service is impeccable--just the right amount of attention and responsiveness. The place is packed and noisy so don't go here if you're looking for a quiet night out! You can thank me later.

Yelp
Ok so a few of my clients recommended me this place and I have to say it's my favorite sushi spot in LA now. Great birthday dinner. Out server was amazing, as soon as we ordered what we wanted the first dish was out within minutes. Good vibes.

Yana P.

Yelp
We had an unfortunate experience, and 2 people ended up getting a food poisoning after dining here. Both ordered sushi and sashimi. The other two people of the same party were ok (ordered rolls and miso soup). Place is dirty, with sticky and smelly tables. Taste and quality of food was poor. Soup Noodles were overcooked, and felt like rubber. Menu choices are quite mediocre. The only positive thing I can mention - easy parking.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and the quality is top tier! The fish is always fresh and the presentation is beautiful. The space is small and cozy, perfect for a date night. Service is always great and I leave impressed each time.

Yelp
By far the best sushi spot on the Santa Monica mountains. Nestled at the top of Beverly Glen Blvd close to mulholland drive. My favourites are the shu tacos! I could eat 10 of them! Get extra sauce. The crispy rice is yum and every now and then I indulge in the mozzarella crab because it's Devine! Great spot and their sister restaurant il segreto is a must too!
google avatar

Jovy J.

Yelp
Great food. Unique Italian and Japanese but works great. Service and ambiance is nice.

David L.

Yelp
This is the Best sushi in LA. The staff is Excellent. The place is small and cozy. We only eat sushi at Shu.

Jason S.

Yelp
Good service. Too loud but many restaurants these days have that problem. The salmon sushi trio was amazing. Beth salmon sushi I've ever had. Everything very good quality.
google avatar

Anne C.

Yelp
Amazing sushi restaurant, many unique dishes fresh fish and delicious desserts. Reservations recommended.

Yelp
Well this is a hidden gem for sure! High end trendy sushi celebrity spot... Great fun vibe! Very pricy but very good!! Shisido peppers were delicious! Wild salmon, yellow tail, spicy tuna roll, we ordered Junmai Ginjo cold saki!! Great Tempura! FUN TIME Bring your Am Ex card!
google avatar

Pedi M.

Yelp
Shu is always fresh and high quality sushi! I love the ambiance and staff as well. My go to order is the albacore sashimi and the rainbow roll. I like to come here at least once a week and would def recommend to anyone who hasn't been. By far one of my favorite sushi spots in l.a
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Absolutely the best! We always have an amazing time here. They serve the freshest sushi. Servers are so attentive and cater to all your needs. Its best to go during the week, as weekends are always super busy.
google avatar

Newsha R.

Yelp
Very average food Also the wait to get your food is sooooo long Portions are very small and the taste of the fish is blah Not going back
google avatar

Moddy F.

Yelp
Ate here tonight. Gf used to eat here a lot a few years back and raved about it. In short, Really not good at all. No taste to anything. Everything just kinda taste like mushy nothing. Salmon sushi, baked crab rolls, seared albacore sashimi and the 2 rolls all tasted the same....like nothing. Really no other way to explain it. Unfortunately very forgettable.

Yelp
Ventured out to the Beverly Glen area to try something new and glad I did. Shu Sushi House is a winner. It was a very local crowd and everyone, diners and servers, seemed to know everyone. The menu is very large and we had a hard time deciding because so many things sounded good. We tried a couple sushi rolls, the rainbow roll being the winner. The fish was so fresh and the crab filling super delicious. The other standout was the Shu tacos appetizer, which consisted of spicy tuna, crab and shrimp housed in crispy little shells. The only thing we wouldn't re-order was the pan fried tofu, simply because of the lack of veggies in the dish. The restaurant is located in an upscale plaza and has plenty of parking. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
I would give 3.5/5 overall, but 4.5 for quality and presentstion! All of our sushi we ordered was so delicious and top notch quality! I took photos of everything except the "spicy tuna" handrolls we ordered. We got Toro, Hamachi, Sake, Hotate, Hirame, Hirame fin, Monkfish, Kinmedai, Butterfish, Ikura and quail egg and Uni. We also got Ama Ebi..delicious. We also got an order of "spicy tuna" handrolls which were NOT SPICY..at all. Not even the lowest on a spicy scale. We asked for spicy oil on the side but it didn't help the flavor. Those we could have done without. We also got Hirame carpaccio which was light, refreshing, delicious. We had ordered shishito peppers but they never came. We had a nice bottle of sake, but we poured it 95% of the time. Their dessert menu is a shame, does not reflect the establishment. It's like a sub-par sushi venue's menu. Ice cream, mochi, fried bananas, sorbet..nothing worth ordering. Not a fan of the tables that are so close to each other with a clear window. It's not Covid anymore, maybe black the screens out, or some kind of design on it, so it feels more private..I had requested a booth but they did not pay attention to my reservation notes.

Yelp
My favorite spot for sushi & pasta. I cant get enough. Love the toro. Love the halibut and the pasta is fillling more than il pastio. Fast service and this place us always busy. Get reservations.
google avatar

Yelp
Good services, but disappointed in the food and ambiance (tables cramped together, noisy) Cucumber Sunomono had no flavor. I almost sent it back. Yellowtail in Garlic Sauce was utter disappointment. The rolls were mediocre and nothing to write home about. Bummer.
google avatar

Yelp
Delish fresh sushi and AMAZING tasting truffle pasta. I'm very picky when it comes to sushi and I liked this place. Service could be a bit better like the waitress forgot about one of the orders and at the end didn't stop by to get the check for A WHILE and we had to call someone else. Ambiance is ok, nothing fancy or crazy. It good for a casual date night. I recommend this place.
google avatar

Jp J.

Yelp
The service is amazing, the staff is quick. the lady at the front desk already knows our order. I usually order online. The food is delicious and fresh. The restaurant is always busy.

Yelp
Food - Amazing sushi. It's so refreshing to have a proper sushi restaurant. The fish was fresh. That evening I had a salmon flight/tasting and each one was like butter. Blue crab hand roll was also better and fresher than most. Service - server was great with steering me in the right direction. Every recommendation was appreciated. We had no reservations but they were able to accommodate us. Ambiance - Great intimate setting with a modern and traditional sushi restaurant of that makes any sense. Not loud and just a nice place to have a meal.

Elena K.

Yelp
Best uni in town. Menu is yummy with many different rolls and selections. Service is great also. Super busy on weekends

Yelp
Hidden in the corner of a small shopping center is this even smaller gem! Came for dinner on a Saturday night with reservations (highly recommended) and we were seated upon checking in. The restaurant is small and dark with tables tightly fit next to each other and separated by Covid barriers, creates for a very intimate dinner. Upon being seated we were provided edamame with ginger and wasabi with our waitress joining shortly after taking our drink orders (they have a very extensive sake selection and great beer choices). This is where the fun starts.. the food. One bite after the other, each one more delicious then the rest. We started with sushi; salmon, toro, yellow tail, scallops and the halibut carpaccio. All equally fresh and delicious, melting in your mouth and leaving you wanting more, yes we did order more . Hidden from the menu is the star of the show, the truffle pasta. how can sushi so good be followed by pasta you may ask, but it was phenomenally delicious and capped the night off perfectly; we called it the desert to our dinner. Highly recommend, splurge and enjoy!

Arman P.

Yelp
Been a customer with my family here for years. A review is long overdue. I've introduced many friends and colleagues to this location and I will continue to recommend it as one of the best sushi spots in LA. It truly is a great spot with fish that is always fresh and service that is great with a friendly staff. I can never get sick of this place and love doing date night here with my wife. I highly recommend their sashimis and truffle pasta.
google avatar

Tanya A.

Yelp
Great neighborhood sushi spot! Love walking in during the week and sitting at the bar for a quick bite. They tend to get busy on weekends so best to snag a resy early. Make sure you get their secret menu Truffle Pasta!!
google avatar

Rachel N.

Yelp
I had a great experience at SHU. Food was delicious, the environment was a vibe, and the service was great. The servers were all super attentive to my table. 10/10 experience and highly recommend!
google avatar

Bry L.

Yelp
Order the truffle pasta! Order the truffle pasta! Order the truffle pasta! Why haven't you ordered the truffle pasta yet?

Brian T.

Yelp
Good sushi. You have to know what to order and order get the best meal in. I recommend asking the waiters their recs. Sometimes the off menu options are great! Rolls are 10/10 here. Service is always great.

Yelp
We love this place. Great food and kids friendly. The waiters are super nice and helpful. We go every Thursday with the family and look forward to it!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite sushi spot! Pretty pricey but so worth it. Every bite melts in your mouth and the service is really good! Ask for Leo to make your food! He's so sweet and generous! The entire staff is actually very nice and professional! Please reserve because they can get busy!

Yelp
The host keep u waiting for hours and won't seat you , means after waiting for more than couple hours for ur dinner , you go home hungry ! it's a very low level of hospitality
google avatar

Serhii M.

Yelp
The best sushi in LA. I advise everyone very tasty and very fast service. book a table early.

Yelp
A hidden gem tucked away in the hills high above Bel Air, this is The Little Sushi Restaurant That Could. We sat at the sushi bar and chatted up one of the chefs. Their fish is flown in from Japan, Spain, Canada and beyond with a small contingency of local fishermen. We sampled an array from yellowfin to matagatsuo to eel to butterfish to mackerel and ahi. We were in agreement that all were the most outrageously fresh we've ever had. We also had a couple of specialty rolls; a dynamite scallop roll with crunchy rice and a classic rainbow roll. The rainbow roll is to the Japanese restaurant what the song Georgia is to a jazz singer...it's one that every singer better know - but also one that can be used to measure their worth. Hands-down, this was the tastiest rendition of this familiar tune that we've ever experienced. Somewheeeeere....over the rainbow......

Yelp
Food has always been exceptional at Shu. Recently, it's gotten noisy. To no fault of theirs, customers with babies ... everyone's welcome and we've all been there. I remember when my two were toddlers, every time we went out people would comment on how they were dreading the baby proximity, but that they were exceptionally surprised. My trick was feeding my children prior to going to sushi. One, I wasn't ready to introduce them to raw flesh bacteria and their hungry energy wasn't fair to them nor to others. Then their experiences were more about having new experiences rather than feeding. Luckily we were able to leave early enough today... but there must have been a half dozen children at Shu today. And I'm grateful we were there significantly ahead of the noise roller coaster. I had never seen children there and to see so many today was mind boggling. I don't even know what child friendly items are on the menu. For the $$$ spring for a sitter. And I say it with love and kindness. Your kids rather be home and don't you deserve the air to enjoy your Shu time? Yes Shu do! We were happy with everything we had as always!!! I've always been happy with everything I've had there. I think I'm saving my next visit for lunch or school night. I think I was traumatized not because of the hangry screams rather because of it happening there. I'm used to seeing familiar faces quietly hoping to not be recognized. Oh, and for the blonde with enhanced lips, please don't publish the pics you took. Not cool. We all saw you take them. Not cool at all.

Nick C.

Yelp
Love this place so much - very expensive but you get what you pay for. Who would've guessed the freshest fish in LA would be so far from the coast?

Ashley K.

Yelp
Drinks were goooood. Service is okay. It was date night so I can understand the server giving us room to talk however we had to hunt him down to order and to get our drinks and for the food to come. Also had the ask the host for the bill. Sushi was good very fresh but would fall apart easily. Inside the vibe was nice and classy

Evgenia M.

Yelp
Shu Sushi is one of my favorite spots for sushi in LA! The fish is always incredibly fresh, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. A hidden gem for sushi lovers!
google avatar

Yelp
Shu was jam packed when I got there on a Monday night around 7:30 pm. Our reservation was at 8 and we got seated around 8:10ish. The restaurant has dim lighting, but it isn't the coziest. There are glass dividers between you and the table next to you...I could literally see everything they ordered and it felt like they were sitting at my table. I would opt to sit at the sushi bar, cooler experience anyways. They also have a private second floor for parties. The service was ok - they were busy so I won't complain. We started with complimentary edamame, shishito peppers and sake. Then we ordered the yellowtail jalapeño and the snapper sashimi. I liked the yellowtail more but it wasn't anything special. The sauce seemed the same on both dishes. The nigiri was amazing - both the salmon and the red snapper. The fish was fresh and the rice was super soft and sticky. My favorite roll of the night was something I saw the sushi chef make and immediately ordered - it was a spicy tuna roll topped with tempura shrimp. I've never tried anything like this before. The tempura shrimp was hot and fresh out of the fryer while the spicy tuna was cold and delicious. The combination was a 11/10 and I would order two of these rolls next time!!!!

Yelp
I didn't know how to rate this place. I would give more just for the quality of the fish...but overall it's just a basic spot, sorry. Yet another LA hot spot with hype, that just didn't satisfy my expectations! JAM packed even in the midst of a pandemic...I mean you can literally move your pinky and you will be touching the table next to yours. It was somewhat uncomfortable sitting as close as we were to tables next to us...even whispering wouldn't keep the people next to you from hearing your story. Yes the fish is Fresh, melts in your mouth, quality you can taste...so 10/10 for the fresh fish! but are the rolls or sashimi plates the best? Idk. They add random things to each plate, perhaps to make them "different" but I don't think these items compliment each other. For example the sashimi plate with pear or fig and truffle....random pieces of fig jam, sashimi, and tossed with lots of truffle. Sure it's presentable maybe, but not the most pleasant mix. Probably the best thing I had was the truffle pasta because i love pasta, and it didn't hurt that this plate was creamyyyy just how I like it, and extra truffle...(pasta at a sushi spot) but im not complaining! The rest of the things were OK nothing to go crazy for, we've had tastier rolls elsewhere for sure

Yelp
Quality and fresh seafood! You can taste it! Very simple with flavors packed in each bite from the freshness and ingredients. Great service and they were on point! It's a real gem!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Just dined here tonight and was very impressed! Came with a family who are regulars and knew what to order. The mini crabs were something I've never seen before! All of the sushi was delicious and the fish tasted very fresh. Tip - You can order some items from the Italian restaurant next door, the truffle pasta was AMAZING!!
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
A friend of mine took me here and it was so good!! All of their sushi's have amazing flavor and it's so tasty. It is a bit small, but we got seated quickly for how packed it gets. The sushi was fresh, and I loved the options with caviar, scallops, the truffle/caviar pasta, everything. I would highly recommend this place and will come here again!
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Food is really great here. Fish tastes fresh, plenty of elaborate variations that taste quite outstanding. It is a small and crowded in there. Service feels rushed. I prefer more space and simplicity with my sushi Japanese style so for my triweekly sushi lunches or dinners i will go elsewhere but will happily dine here on special occasions. Parking is good if you arrive before the dinner rush.
