14 Fantastic Specialty Markets in East Portland | Eater Portland

"This California-based Chinese and Vietnamese supermarket took over a former Fred Meyer in 2019, retaining its mini-mall feel with several small businesses attached. Many grocery items here are conducive to quick meals, from pre-cut mixed vegetables ready to be tossed into a stir-fry to vacuum-sealed bags of assorted meatballs perfect for hot pot at home. Plus, the seafood department will clean, cut, and fry fish free of charge." - Janey Wong

Major Winter Storms Create More Food Crises Across the Country | Eater

"During a power outage in Portland, Oregon, supermarket employees discarded thousands of perishable items because they could not guarantee food safety; mutual aid activists initially clashed with employees (and later police) when residents were prevented from accessing dumpsters, but eventually salvaged packaged meats, cheese, pickles, and juice and redistributed them via local free fridges." - Jenny G. What to Know About Portland’s Brand-New Grocery Stores - Eater Portland

"A local outpost of a chain of international supermarkets, Shun Fat offers a wide array of imports, as well as live fish, ube-queso ice cream, and durian. It shares a space with a jewelry store and various other businesses, a la Fubonn. The market is known for its diversity of products, including live catfish, paletas, fresh durian, and frozen dumplings. Genevive Ko of Epicurious wrote a personal, heartfelt portrait of the grocery, praising its unapologetic love of the funky and fermented and its affordability." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

There are lots of reasons you might want to visit Shun Fat. I typically go for their produce, particularly their Asian eggplant, deep fried tofu, and steam chow mein noodles. Also, if you are a fan of green papaya salad, Shun Fat sells them pre-slivered...quick note, the cut papaya doesn't last long.

Wide variety of Asian foods products, fruits and vegetables at the reasonable prices! Weekend is busy but weekdays are easy to shop. It’s bigger than nearby Vietnamese supermarkets and less crowded.

Google
This place is huge! I mean it’s like you could take every Asian market in Vancouver and hide them inside it. And what’s more, it’s well lit. And it’s organized. And clean. In fact it feels a little strange. I lived in Asia for years and I spend an inordinate amount of time in Asian markets and Shun Fat is extraordinary on a variety on levels. It is one of the best stocked, biggest, cleanest, Asian markets I’ve ever been in. There are things there lining the aisles I haven’t seen since I left Asia 30 years ago. Endless varieties of chili oils, frozen dumplings, noodles, sauces, meats, fish, bits, pieces, mysterious things! I mean you could spend weeks wandering around this place trying things, learning about the world… making wonderful mistakes. Now it’s true that there are some pretty predatory shoppers there and although I had heard of the legendary little old Asian lady shoppers I was unprepared for the line of diminutive women who ruthlessly cut in front of me in the checkout line until a gentleman behind me threatened to call the manager and yelled at them. But even that was kind of an adventure! Shun Fat just screams to be explored. It wants to educate you, to become a part of your life. Literally if you can’t travel abroad then this the next best thing. You get to know a place like this. Not just the candy aisle. The whole place. After you leave, do yourself a favor and wander around the building. Lots of fun stuff to see.

Google
Sign on the door says they're open till 9. It's 8:50. I need one thing from produce. But the automatic doors are not actually opening. And then I get in when other customers are leaving but the store staff tell me they're already closed. And then the security guards chastised me saying "they've been long closed" Like, how long? Because the sign on the door says they're still open! Not my preferred market anyway as fubon has more selection and lower prices usually, but I was here because fubon was closed. So I wasted a trip. Don't waste yours.

Google
I really like this store. I love the noodle selection, I always find my aloe drinks here, veggies are good, meat is.good and I usually find what I came here for. It's a four star because even though I love to shop here when I can't find something and have to ask I can't understand what he is yelling at me, usually I don't ever have to ask cause I know where everything is but the few times i do, it's impossible to get help. I still love this store and I still love coming here. I got my brother his gas single stove to cook hotpot here and it was way cheaper here then anywhere else. Kimchi is okay here. Overall I would recommend coming here to try it out, if you have a question ask a cashier.

Google
Highly recommend. They fry your fish did free . Wonderful selections, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Mexican and American food and produce selection. Variety meat and seafood selection as well. Did you know you can get your fish cleaned, cut the way you want and they will fry your selections right there for your at no cost. I had fried tilapia. It was amazing.

Google
Very clean super market. You can find almost all the Asian foods you need. I say almost because they don't sell thin sliced meat for Pho but every other ingredient for the soup. :D

Google
Guy standing at the door thought we were stealing. Told security to check our bags and found absolutely nothing. We each bought a drink and had the receipts too, he WATCHED us check out. He whispered to the other guy saying we always come here.. we rarely come here and live on the opposite side of portland. He saw us come in with backpacks but it’s because we came after school. We are not thieves, guy at the door needs to learn not to judge. Props to the security for apologizing to us but the asian guy with a hat did not and wasn’t even sorry. He watched us walk in with backpacks by the way, we would’ve left it at the front if he had just asked. Guy said it was store policy but didn’t say anything when we walked in and there was no sign or anything saying that was the policy. Incredibly frustrating to be falsely accused.

Yelp
Amazing! Great products, prices and the store is very organized and clean! We are happy new customers :)

Yelp
This grocery store is about 85% asian food. I would say more southeast asian and Chinese than anything else, but they do have some Japanese and Korean things. Tons of noodles and fishballs and good selection of vegetables. Not too crowded. And prices are about the same as any other grocery store. Plenty of Ginseng and candies, too.

Yelp
We had to make a run to Portland yesterday (from the Asian market desert of Bend). Normally, I like to hit up Uwajimaya for Asian food supplies. This time, because of time constraints and where we were in the metro area, I went to SF Supermarket (Shun Fat but the sign on the building says SF) located a few miles north of Clackamas. I recommend it, especially the large produce section. The only thing I didn't like is that they pre-package a lot of the produce in plastic bags (greens, mostly), so you have to put up the amount they bagged, which is generally a lot. I have no good idea whether the prices are reasonable because of the current economic climate (inflation and supply issues) but they seemed OK. I didn't look at the meat, seafood or frozen sections because I wasn't in a position to keep it properly refrigerated, possibly overnight. But the rest of the store has the large variety of dried and canned goods you expect from a megamarket.

Yelp
A display of Chaokoh coconut milk was clearly marked with a price of $1.99 per can. When the cashier rang me up, the price came up at $2.49. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she went to a different aisle from where the display was and took a photo of the $2.49 price. So I went back to the display and took a photo of the posted price of $1.99, which she refused to honor. She then involved a second employee, who also insisted I was wrong despite photographic evidence to the contrary. Not honoring your posted price is a fundamentally dishonest business practice, and reading through some of the negative reviews here, it would seem that ripping off customers for a few bucks here and there is standard operating procedure for SF Supermarket. That is shameful. There are too many honest businesses around to support one that cheats their customers.

Yelp
I've shopped plenty at the SF Supermarket in Little Saigon in California so I was elated when I heard Portland had a location of their own when I moved here. I was glad to see that, much like what I'm used to seeing in California, customers can purchase an item from the seafood station and the fish monger will fry it up for you at no additional cost. Although the SF Supermarket here has many of the Asian ingredients I typically need, it also has much fewer selections than what I'm used to. For example, their seafood area here has fewer options. When I had planned on making baked catfish to make spring rolls with, I was disappointed to find out they don't carry fresh catfish when I arrived so I ended up making something else that day. Also, if they run out of something in their inventory (i.e., a particular brand of chili oil, IndoMie Noodles), expect to wait a few weeks or even months at least before that item will available again. Nevertheless, this is my go-to Asian market (aside from H-mart). I appreciate that it doesn't have an off-putting odor when I walk in too, which can be an issue at other Asian markets. Parking is always easy and there's a boba place that just opened in that plaza.

Yelp
This is the best among FuBon & Hung Phat. Clean, well stocked Asian market. Most of their herbs & veggies are nicely pre packaged. Huge parking lot. Tip: go an hour before closing so the market is empty and easy to get in and out. Only downside there may only be 1 or 2 registers open, that's a small price to pay for all the benefits.

Yelp
I was sad when "my" Fred Meyer's of the last 40 years was shut down, but I am very happy to have this most comprehensive store so close. The array of foods--a certain percentage of that I know nothing or little about--is staggering. LIke being in another country (though most of the labels are English.) And the options, like there must be a dozen different kinds of frozen fish balls. A whole, long aisle that's mostly varieties of quick noodles. Not easy to find help, and if you do language could be a little bit of an issue, but hey I'm not their target market and I'm happy to see all these exotic and interesting items.

Yelp
Fortunate to have a quality Asian market in our neighborhood. Perhaps only because of proximity but they've become my "go-to" market for Asian foods. As with their competition, aisles can be an interesting challenge to negotiate but once you get the hang of the place, it's pretty straightforward. The offerings, and the variety of offerings can be overwhelming. When I'm shopping for something I'm unfamiliar with, I look for that which has been the most purchased. Seems to work... Fun place.

Yelp
I changed my review after shopping at this place many times since they opened due to the following: 1. Many people simply just come here to take a look due to the hype and walk out with nothing or a few things due to the price. SF could be just testing the waters. Some products are sold out quickly but haven't been restocked. Some vegetables don't sell well yet are still on the shelf even though they already don't look fresh anymore. Hopefully, they can stock products accordingly in the future. 2. Free gifts with purchase from June 14th to June 16th must have drawn lots of customers. I made three visits outside that time frame and saw lots of leftover gifts unwatched, but I didn't know people could still get them after June 16th. On my last visit, I saw my relatives coming out without a gift after spending $60. Later on, I spent over $100 and nobody told me about the gifts either. In the meantime, I saw the cashiers voluntarily pointing their Vietnamese customers to that gift area. I don't care about the gifts but I just hope their CS can be more consistent. 3. The price you see on the little sticker may not match the price in the system. Pay attention during check out. Return/exchange within 24 hours is easy and hassle-free. Some (maybe all) electronics are not returnable, but they will plug it in and let you decide if you want it or not.

Yelp
I just discovered this supermarket when I was driving back from Happy Valley (I live clear on the other side of the city) and it was a nice surprised. I've been to SF supermarkets before in other cities, and didn't even know they have one in Portland now. It's massive, lots of fresh produce available with good prices too. While I don't buy fresh seafood, their whole back of the supermarket is filled with water tanks of various water creatures. I see lots of people waiting since it looks like they do cleaning and even deep frying of stuff you buy. Wish they have one on the West side :(

Yelp
Stopped by Sunday evening to get some misc things. This is a good time to go when it's not very busy! There's SO much to see. Lots of imported seafood. Gotta love me some durian. Look forward to seeing what other businesses will be coming to this place. Paper bags don't have handles and they stuff them pretty full. Tip- Bring your own bags!
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely not my first go-to Asian market, but I do come here occasionally when I am too lazy to drive across town. Why don't I come here more often? Probably because they do not have items clearly marked with prices (missing tags, hard to distinguish which price with what product, etc). Always a surprise until I get to the register. I know most of you would say it is a marketing gimmick, but I enjoying shopping at places that have "sales" tags or whatnot. SF Supermarket does not use it - it is the same price all around, all the time. Not a bad thing, but I like the feeling that I "saved" money. Just a personal preference. I do love the available parking lot spaces here. Definitely an easy and convenient shopping place. Lots to choose from: dry goods, fresh veggies, live seafood, frozen everything and whatever else you want. Happy shopping!

Yelp
What a great place not the cleanest but it was ok. Produce is fresh and the meat and sea food Dept was great. I couldn't smell either of them so I was happy. Prices are ok. Good selection of produce and meats. Just a general grocery store so it was good,

Mary G.

Yelp
Unethical grocer! Durian was soaked with water and refreezed. Potential health risk. Talked to manager Ms. Lee and all she said was no return. Our family has durian orchard and I know what a frozen durian should looks like.

Yelp
This is my go-to supermarket for Asian food/drinks because the majority of items' prices are lower than H-Mart and they have items here I can't get anywhere else. I'm a huge fan of Chaokoh coconut water and this is the only supermarket that sells it in a large 33.8 oz bottles for 1.79, which calculates to be .053 per oz. This is typically a sale price at H-Mart, but it's a regular priced item here. I'm unashamed to say I buy five of these to drink after working out. In addition, their seafood area is the only place that also fries the fish for you for free. They even clean it for you before frying, which saves not only time, but money. I can buy a whole fried tilapia fish and eat it with brown rice for dinner for less than $10. They also sell packages of frozen shrimp that are devein and deshelled (2 lbs for $14). The vegetables area has some valued items such as wood ear mushrooms (6oz for $3), green onions (hanh la - .78 ea), red leaf salad (.89 per lb), and jicama (2 for 1.50). I'll admit, the walkway to the supermarket is a bit unorganized with empty rental spaces and a random jewelry store, but it adds to the eclectic charm of SF supermarket.
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
Wish I could give them 0 star instead...be careful with selecting fruits and vegetables here as they're supposed to have "fresh products" everyday?! Very disappointed with the fruit's quality! I've never seen moldy oranges....yikes!!!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
SF Supermarket isn't really "super", but it is new and has lots of room to improve (and fill the space). Right now, it doesn't seem this market adds much over the multiple nearby Asian market competitors along 82nd Avenue. The live seafood section had some good prices on dungeness crab and fish while there were some good choices in the nearby frozen fish section. Produce seemed to have a good, but surprisingly limited assortment of Asian favorites. The beef, lamb, other meat options were fine. We left with a few bags of essentials like sauces and oils to match my wife's style of cooking and my style of eating. Overall, I can definitely see us coming back to SF Supermarket, but there is a lot of nearby competition that will likely lure me in more often for Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, and Japanese food, produce, and staples.

Michelle Pearl G.

Yelp
Holy crap this place is a dream. It's like Fubonn and Hong Phat all exploded into one building with a little hint of H-Mart. There was also a large presence of Filipino items. They've really worked to make this a one stop shop. Something that never happens with Asian stores. Usually one store has the better meats, the other has better produce or fruits and another had better spices or noodle selections. Here they have everything imaginable for food, as well as the American equivalent for things like chips, crackers, cereals, soda pop etc. They have household items from packaging tape, plates (both real and paper), pots and pans, laundry detergent and soaps. They even had bath bombs. There is so much going on in every aisle. They have a solid mix of all the Asian cuisines but lean heavier on the Vietnamese items. I was so surprised to see items that I've never seen in the PNW, only in Cali super stores. Frozen options of traditional Vietnamese treats that my mother-in-law makes at home. Their spice aisle is amazing. It has everything and for a fraction of the cost of other stores. Bulk bags of cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon sticks and bark, fennel seeds and coriander seeds, star anise and turmeric. Just to name a few of the items I stocked up on. They have all the flours you could need for ban cuon, bao, crepes and cakes. They also have an impressive selection of chili oils, sambal and hot sauces. They've got all the pastes for soups from pho to bo kho. Sauces from oyster, hoisin and shrimp. Multiple options for soy sauces and fish sauces. They've got a great selection of dried noodles and also fresh noodles. Wonton wrappers and lumpia wrappers. Bean curd and pickled vegetables (and kimchee). Salted prunes to dehydrated spicy squid snacks. Japanese rice crackers to shrimp chips. Pocket sticks to wafers. Their meats are crazy fresh. Everything for any wants or needs. All the bones for soup stocks like neck, knuckles and ox tail. Ribs and rib tips. Wings and thighs. Ground and tenderloin. Tripe to liver. For the seafood they had a huge selection from frozen, to fresh, to live. Scallops, all fish types, octopus, shrimp, crab etc. They also have all the laupchong and fish ball options. Oh and rows of rice types from jasmine to brown to sticky. The only thing they're missing is the hot food items. However there is a lot of empty space from the front store front areas. I'm assuming this is what they're in the processes of becoming. Check out the photos to see how diverse and massive this store is. Today was the grand opening and it was great to see all of the congratulation flower displays from local Asian businesses and restaurants. It's wonderful that this is keeping true to the Jade District and is supporting Asian business. I'm hopeful that they'll welcome a few more to join them in their huge plaza!

Yelp
Don't go here. Higher price, not the freshest produce, and the absolutely no good terrible customer service of the meat and seafood counter. I have interacted with employees in the isles, manager at the customer service counter, all incredibly unhelpful to say the best and f'ing rude to say the least. How is it that the workers behind the meat and seafood counter think it's ok to be rude to customer? Try Fubonn for lower price or Hong Phat for fresher products.

Matt K.

Yelp
This super market has potential but consistently disappoints. I can ignore the rotten food smell and long lines at the register but I am sick and tired of trying to buy basic ingredients like fresh herbs and dried spices only to find the shelves empty. I live close so I keep trying but I'm done. There are other large markets very near by that are better. This place sucks.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
We are very very lucky to have this immense Asian Grocery in our Portland Community. They provide so many essential things for Asian cooking. Wide spacious aisles are stocked with so much. Whole durian fruit? Yup it's there.
google avatar

Holly K.

Yelp
I was on the hunt for a few Asian markets that might be as cool as the ones I had been to in Oakland. I found this one to be okay. The produce was inexpensive and looked very fresh and that would bring me back here for sure. They were out of stock of things here and there, overall it was a decent selection of items. They have some housewares, as well as a fresh fish tank. I saw fresh duck in the case, decided to go back and get one for Christmas dinner. Unfortunately, there was one left and I had to settle on a frozen one from the back and it was a Christmas Story moment, feet and head attached it. It didn't bother me, but it might others. Also, a major language barrier as well from the cashiers to the back, but again, not an issue for me, but others may have questions, like we did and find no answer is coming.
google avatar

Rena J.

Yelp
This place is great. It's big. Produce, meat, and nonperishable foods is at a good price. The produce is fresh and there's good variety of Vietnamese, Chinese, SE Asian veggies and fruits. -This is the one place I've found very fresh string beans. - Strange thing to point out but I was surprised to see veggies in such good condition! There was also a selection of pre-chopped and bundled produce/meats to take home and cook, making it very easy to have a home cooked dish or soup. It's like a cheaper version of 99 Ranch or Asian Food Center (both Chinese dominate markets). There's a big selection of non-perishable goods also. - This is probably the only place I've found Reno liver spread - popular in Filipino cooking (so I've read on the internet). There's more Filipino products than Korean (as in, I've only found Korean markets to carry my favorite soy sauce). The parking lot is ample so no worries about parking. It's right across from Harbor Freight. I definitely would recommend coming here!
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
DO NOT COME to this racist place! I came here at 7:50pm and they let two Asian guys come inside and told me they were closed! The store close at 8:00pm not 7:50. I drove one hour to get to this store for special item to not be allowed in the store. They still allowed people after me to come in. Completely unacceptable!
google avatar

Lindsey S.

Yelp
This place feels weird walking into.. I'm not sure if it's because it's not all the way done yet, but when you walk in, there's empty areas all down the hallways, and the only area really ready for customers is where the grocery part is. Yes, it is a grocery store and that's what people come for, but with such a large space with various places to put products/other small shops, it felt really empty. I will say that the grocery part does have A LOT of things-almost everything and anything you could imagine. I liked it here because usually I would have to make one stop at Fubonn to get fresh vegetables and other things, and then make another stop at BooHan to get anything Korean. Here, they have a lot more Korean products and options, which is pretty great. Pricewise, I didn't see much of a difference from the other two places I usually frequent.

Ted A.

Yelp
Sad sad market. I know it's new but there's a lot they need to take into consideration. Like the convenience of the shopper. First off there's no shopping carts inside. They're littered through out the parking lot. So if you're the type that wants to walk all the way out of the store to an exit to get a shopping cart, then this store is for you. Things just aren't mapped out well in the store and needs to be redone. Yes, I know it's a new store but that's just it. The convenience for the shopper should've been priority. I'll be going to Hong Phat as per usual. Don't take it from me though. Feel free to make it the one and only time you visit this place. And in those pictures. Those aren't designated cart stalls. Haha. They're parking stalls. Happy shopping!

Angelica R.

Yelp
We always come here and buy the instant onion noodles and the "special chicken " we buy a box for 15.99 we came here again to buy more like we always do and the lady's at the registers since we aren't Asian she rang the box up at 15.99 that's what the box said and she wanted to charge us 35$ a box when the price clearly said 15.99 I will never recommend this place because of the discrimination so rating 0/0

Cassandra C.

Yelp
They are charging 15 cent for "reusable bags" and paper bag 10 cent. When everyplace else is 5 cent. Interesting.
google avatar

K O.

Yelp
Best selection of veggies, fish and seafood. You can find lots of delicious imported foods. Love the seafood section and meats. Really good prices and this place is huge. You can buy stuff in bulk or just a portion if you ask at the deli counters. Really love this place!!A++++
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
They have a generous selection of items. The only issue I have with this market are the meat/seafood processors who are always have an attitude problem. If you really hate your job that much find somewhere else to work!

Tow T.

Yelp
We went to SF today.. we got some chest nut because my boyfriend was craving it.. got home and cook it and it has mold in it, what a waste of money. You can tell in the picture it old chest nuts. But this isn't the first time. The fist time was the pickle Daikon it was moldy and gross. Becarful when you go there and make sure you look before you buy because most of their stuff are old and moldy. And this green tea flavor cook right here taste like mold. They can do a better job at making sure that nothing on the shelf is expired and moldy. The cracker doesn't have any kind of expiration date. They gotta do better.
google avatar

Malisa T.

Yelp
Super clean, and reminds me of a mixture of Fubonn and Hong Phat market... fully stocked after visiting a week after opening day. I'm very impressed by its cleanliness but the complex itself is still doing renovations. Plentiful in seafood, but concerned seeing some dead ones in the live fish tank... the produce was also bad (unless most of the grand open customers grabbed all the good stuff). Regardless, replenishing and maintenance on keeping quality groceries would have given it a 5 stars A bit expensive, but there are some good deals around the store. Last time visiting, we got a good steal on live crawfish
google avatar

Jill T.

Yelp
The produce section- amazing!! Got a giant bundle of greens for 4$ and they have so many varieties of greens and fruit that you couldnt get the variety or quality from in a normal grocery store- ie. massive green beans!! I took a star off because when I went it was very, very hard to socially distance in the store and it felt like there were a lot of people and made me uncomfortable. I usually go to my local trader joes where they limit their capacity a lot and it feels more safe so Im wondering how much they are limiting their capacity here to keep people safe. I went early in the morning to try to beat the crowd (on a saturday, though) and it was packed!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
The staff ( management) was incredibly rude. Guy in a suit followed me after I had already paid for my groceries. I've never felt so creeped out at a grocery store in my life. Absolutely disrespectful profiling techniques. The staff will look at any Hispanic customer with a watchful eye.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Suddenly they stop letting people in well before 8 pm which is their posted close time. They are one of the businesses that use covid as an excuse to close whenever they want, diminish quality, and have zero sense of reliability and customer service. They don't deserve business. Of course our government is giving people money for not wanting to work more than ever these days so maybe that's what they're trying for.

Yelp
Awesome. Giant. Asian. Supermarket. Came in for the first time, most of the prices were lower than the regular supermarkets, the live fish were pretty cool and there was just so many Asian vegetables and other things that I'd never even heard of before. I asked one of the employees where the miso paste was (planning to make ramen!) and he walked me all the way across the store to it (after he couldn't communicate to me exactly where it was). Overwhelming selection of amazing stuff, didn't get a whole lot but I'll be back soon for sure.

Yelp
I want to warn other customers that they should check their bill before they leave the store, because it is a nightmare having to go back to ask for a refund. The store person, "Le" yelled at me for not checking and told me that I should wait for them to check the camera record. I never had to be treated so rude before. Here is what happened, if anyone like to know the details, as I had report this to their email contact: 'I was at your Portland, OR store yesterday, 2/27/21 @ 2:35pm. I brought about 20 items and I was busy putting items in bags as soon as the cashier started scanning them. In the evening as I was filing my receipts, I noticed that the golden pear was scanned twice. Thus, I called the store this morning and a gentleman identified himself as "Min" told me that I should bring the pears back with the receipt to get the refund. I even asked him how can I find him, and he told me "just go to any cashier and ask for me. They will call me for you." I had found errors before, but they are usually under $3 and I don't bother to call, as I understand we're human and that happened. However, this is over $5.00 and I really want to make a point that error should be pointed out. Around 10am I went into the store, I waited to make sure the 1st cashier by the door was between 2 customers and told her I need to see Min or a manager. She looked at me in puzzle and said, "what?" I repeated and she claimed there is no such person or manager here (a big store like that has no manager on duty?). Anyway, she told me to wait. While I was waiting I called store #s again and she was the person who picked up the phone, which means whoever was there around 8:30am was the person I talked to. When she was done with the last customer she told me to go to the front counter by the door. I explained what happened and who I spoke to and she yelled at me that they don't have any manager here. The manager is on vacation. I showed her the gold pear was double charged and she yelled at me again, blaming me "why don't you checked when you were here." I told her I have so many items and the line was long, I was hurry putting stuffs in bags so I won't hold up the line. How would I have time to check her scanning items by items?" Then she said angrily, "You should checked after you checked out. We have camera that we can checked but you have to wait 1/2 hour." I replied angrily too, "that's ridicules. I'm not going to do that." I don't understand what good in checking your camera can help identify double scanning, instead of showing the items directly. Won't that safe up the 1/2 hour wait? At this point, she claimed that I was yelling at her. I laughed and told her she was the person started yelling first and I don't have any experience with any staff at any store who treated a customer like she did. She still yelling and I have to demand her to stop the conversation and give me back my refund. I asked her for her name and she claimed is "Le". If "Min" is not a real person, as she said. I wonder if "Le" is really her name too? The rest is not relevant. I suggested that your Portland office to check the "camera" and you would see her body language, if you won't have audio. This bad taste really make me think twice next time I go to an Asian store. In the meantime, I don't want to see other customer have to deal with this type of treatment.'

Yelp
This place is kind of creepy. The shelves are often bare at worst or disorganized at best. Lots of expired products. Hong Phat up the street is a way better supermarket.

Yelp
Large asian grocery store in an old fred meyer. Had lots of options. Fresh fruits and vegetables, including green mangos, lots of drinks, frozen gyoza, noodles, sauces, etc. By the fish in the frozen section they had a selection of vegetarian and vegan meats, which was awesome! I got some vegan fish and vegan Korean sesame beef. Vegans beware, if the product just says veg it probably has a milk ingredient.

Yelp
Thank you to everyone who has made this super market happen. I am so happy to see our old Fred Meyer turned into a SF super market. Walking into the market you can see all the effort that went into the exterior for the opening but there is still much more to come inside as many areas are not being used yet. I do love how the old FM jeweler sign and space has been made new. In the produce area I was disappointed to see a lot of produce wrapped in plastic and styrofoam. The packaged cilantro was yellowing and was left out for too long. There were no fresh sprouts in a bin just pre packaged sprouts. Please opt for less packaging. It wasn't too busy while I was there but the butcher block had a few people needing help. It would be helpful especially on busy days to have a number roll so there is some order on who is next. My cashier must have been tired because she didn't greet me or interact with me much. Overall, I think this market has potential and my husband and I want it to succeed. One more thing, there was a Pho shop that I thought would be in the outer shop but when I came in today all the signs were gone. Please bring it back!

Yelp
Finally! An Asian supermarket that reminds me of one in California! They have a great butcher and seafood department so far and it's only growing. Yay for their clean and fish frying service! I had a hard time locating the carts. There is still a lot of construction going on.

Yelp
Took a gander at the offerings here the other week. Opening weekend was pretty nuts. Fortunately it had calmed down later in the week. Produce section and meat sections appear to be extensive and fresh-looking. Looks like they have the real deal fresh durian. And a wide selection of meats.

Yelp
This is my go to place for Asian specialty foods and such. They got a great selection on ramen, my favorite soy sauce "Magi", rice flour, potato starch, fish sauce, etc... I end up cooking a lot of Asian inspired food several times a week and they have the food that Safeway and Whole Foods doesn't at a great price too.

Yelp
This place is big, they are the biggest Asian market in Oregon with many options to choose from. They even have a section for Indian food which a dream for me because I don't have to drive to Beaverton or Hillsboro for it. I wouldn't say the pricing is cheaper than Fubonn or Hong Phat, but they have a huge selection of everything that you can think of. The building is still not complete, many retail spaces are available for rent, they should include a place hot food then the shop will be absolutely perfect. Yes, this place is bigger than H-Mart and 99 Range, competition like this is welcomed as PDX has been growing with its population. We have more and more people who are into Asian food and cultures, this is a good opportunity to promote our wonderful cuisine and introduce the next generations to real food.

Yelp
It's a tiny strip mall that leads to a huge grocery store, and people are so nice and will help you if you need

Yelp
I like this better than Fubon but still just a crappy Chinese market. I was kind of looking forward to when they opened but wasn't impressed when I first came. I figured it would get better overtime but I don't really see an selection improvement. I would come here once in a while but only when I have too. The Asian markets in Oregon are just run down and low quality. It's perfect for oregonians

Yelp
Big variety and plenty of parking space. Live seafood area and everything is organized and clean. No rats or mouse infestation like Hong Phat market. The meats is fresh. The produce is organized.

Yelp
I'll allow for newness and room for improvement, but I wasn't as impressed with this place as I was with Fubonn up the street. Shame because I can walk to this one from my house. I do like that there are obviously a number of items I can get here that I can't at the traditional American groceries in the area, but the produce is largely over-packaged and geared toward those wanting large portions. Not nearly as much loose produce as I would have liked. They do have an impressive selection of meat and seafood (fresh, live and processed/frozen). I couldn't find any employees who spoke or understood English, which is surprising (and disappointing) for a market that is serving a very mixed culture neighborhood. I specifically was hoping to find sushi grade tuna to make some poke, but the woman at the seafood counter couldn't understand what I was asking for and I'm not trying to mess around with a communication barrier around seafood. (And before anyone reading this wants to go all "white privilege" on me, the Filipino man ahead of me at the counter was equally annoyed that they didn't speak English and wasn't confident he was actually going to get what he ordered.)
