Visited Shy Bird in Fenway this past weekend hoping to try their falafel sandwich. Unfortunately, we learned that on weekends they only serve their brunch menu, so weekday items weren't available. Bit of a letdown, but we pivoted-- I had the chicken dunks with sweet and sour sauce, and my husband went with the chicken sandwich. Both were very good--crispy, flavorful, and satisfying.
It took a while for the food to arrive, but with a Red Sox game and multiple graduations happening nearby, the crowds were huge. Our server was friendly, attentive, and clearly doing her best under pressure.
One thing that caught us off guard when we got our bill: every food item had an added 4% "tax" for kitchen staff. While we completely support fair wages and applaud the intent to pay staff well, it feels misleading. If you want to compensate your team better (and you should!), build it into the menu prices rather than tacking on a fee that looks like a tax. Transparency goes a long way with customers.
Overall, good food, solid service, but the menu limitations and unexpected surcharge did take away from the experience a bit.
