Where to Eat and Drink in Cleveland Park | Eater DC

"People do not come to Siam House for the décor or the view of the Exxon station across the street. They come for the flavorful menu of Thai standbys and specials, from kaprow to clay pot shrimp. Be prepared for Thai-level spiciness. The chef does not edit the heat down for American palates unless asked." - Jamie Liu

Absolutely wonderful! The food is fantastic and some of the best Thai I’ve had in a while. We enjoyed the Chicken Satay, Thai Curry Puffs, Pad See Ew, and Yellow Curry. We also took an order of Mango Sticky Rice to-go. We will definitely come back on our next trip to DC!! Thank you to Siam House Mark & JP

Excellent! I will definitely be back! Stumbled across this place after a site meeting and I am IN LOVE! Delicious food. Samantha, my server, was not only adorable she was expeditious and courteous. I will definitely be back. 😘

Google
The food itself wasn’t bad, but the portion was far too small for the price. I paid $23 for a dish that came with just three small pieces of meat and some plain, bland vegetables that seemed to be boiled in water without any seasoning. The pricing might be understandable, but the lack of care and attention in the preparation was disappointing. I was also informed that a 20% service charge would be added. While not all restaurants in D.C. do this, I was told that this is not a tip, but rather a service fee for the staff. If that’s the case, then the level of service should reflect this charge—but unfortunately, the service provided today did not justify the fee. I don’t understand why restaurant owners shift the cost of hiring and paying staff onto customers under the justification of D.C. regulations. I’ve dined at many restaurants in the city, and this is only the second time I’ve encountered such a charge—both times at Asian restaurants, particularly Thai ones. This practice seems to be a recent trend, and I believe it will become a major reason for customers to avoid certain establishments. While every owner has the right to set their own policies, if you decide to implement a service charge, you should also ensure that better service is provided in return and that your staff is properly trained.

Google
Siam House serves the best Thai in DC! This family owned establishment is absolutely incredible and the service is amazing! We ordered the Mussaman curry with mixed vegetables, the Eggplant with fried tofu and mixed vegetables, and the Pineapple Chicken. Each entree was equally delicious! We also finished with the mango sticky rice, which was the best we’ve had. Highly recommend this restaurant.

My friend took me here for my birthday, and it was delicious! The service was great as well. The staff were welcoming. I got the noodle soup with chicken, and it was jam packed with flavor! I can’t wait to come back here to try other dishes!

Google
My pad kaphrao was great but not particularly different or interesting in terms of flavor. It was flank steak with basil. My stomach was also a tiny bit upset afterward. It's very loud inside the restaurant because it's small.

Google
The service of this family establishment is top notch. They really make you feel welcome and never try to rush you even when they are really busy. Some of the dishes are very good and some are ok, unfortunately the pretty much all the food takes a while to come out. The coconut ice cream is more like a sorbet than actual ice cream.

Google
We came on a Friday night and there was one table left. The place is small, but the food was great. We arrived during their happy hour and got the basil clams for a better price. The shrimp peptide was really good, so is the green curry with chicken. Will return.

Yelp
I strolled in one day for lunch and had such a great experience. This is a small cozy family owned restaurant. Atmosphere: quaint, clean, cozy. Food: -Thai iced tea 5/5 -Tom Kha soup with mushroom 5/5 -Pad Thai with tofu 4.5/5 I had never tried the Tom Kha soup so i was happy it was offered on their lunch menu to give me the opportunity to try it. All the food was good. Portion size was decent too. I was able to save a little for later. Service: the service is what stands out at this place. The woman running the restaurant was so kind and so helpful. I came in alone and brought a book, it was a perfect place to have a meal and read. Overall: 5/5. I'll be back again for sure.

Yelp
Deservingly, Siam House won "Best Thai" in D.C. in 2023 by the Washington City Paper, a nod from its readers. Opened by a man named Raymond Siri in a space in Cleveland Park that used to be an Indian restaurant and then an Indonesian spot, its Raymond's daughter, grandchildren, and a few others who run Siam House. My wife and I went for a Saturday date night at 8 p.m. Here's our experience and why it's one of our favorite Thai spots in the city. 1) Food: We ordered the tofu salad, Thai fried rice with pork, pad see ew with chicken, and a coconut dessert. Everything was full of flavor and perfectly cooked, but the tofu salad we will crave. The tofu is perfectly crispy and the flavor on it is simple, yet refreshing. The pad see ew was perfect as was the dessert. Truly, everything the kitchen touches turns to gold. 2) Drink: The Thai iced tea was refreshing. They found the balance between creamy and sweet without one overpowering the other. My wife enjoyed her glass of white wine. 3) Service: It's very efficient and kind. Rather than one server, you meet many of their staff from the woman who makes the food to others. They check up on you and treat you like family. 4) Space: It's a small space, but it works! There are several tables inside with an aisle letting people come for takeout. A small bathroom with blue tiles is in the back. 5) Neighborhood: Cleveland Park is a true D.C. neighborhood with locals. There's history, many restaurants and bars, parks, and more. We found free street parking one block away!

Yelp
Hello hello! So, let's break it down. I ordered from this restaurant via Uber eats. The food was so delicious, that I tore it up and did not have any time to take photos. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai with a spice level of (Very Spicy), chicken wings & fried shrimp cakes! First off, the pad Thai was flavorful and delicious! I loved that the spice level was true to what I requested. Often times the flavor is watered down, but this was not the case today! The chicken wings were fried to a crisp and were fresh! They were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Sweet and spicy sauce on the side was a bonus! The shrimp cakes were absolute comfort to the soul! The sweet elements of the sauce coupled with the crispy bites of the shrimp cake! YUMMY!!! Okay, let's give a big round of applause to the restaurant! They put in a lot of love and care into this meal! Cheers!

Yelp
This is officially my favorite restaurant in DC. It is a small family run business with the best service and most delicious food. We started with Tom Yum, a lemon grass and mushroom soup that was flavorful and cleared my friend's cold right away. I got the Drunken chicken which is quite honestly one of the most delicious meals I have had all year. All the flavors came together nicely and it is just spicy enough to raise your temperature without getting you snotty - exactly how I prefer it... ask for medium spice for this level. I also got a Thai Iced tea and it complimented the temperature and taste of my meal. My friend got Garlic Lover which had beef on broccoli with a side of rice (he got brown rice) and he loved it too. To make things better, neither of us could finish our meal so we took most of it to go and finished it off today. The food is also priced really well. I will make sure to return once or twice before leaving DC and highly recommend it. The family is so, so nice and hardworking. Please support their business.

Yelp
Delicious classic Thai food! I enjoyed the Panang curry with chicken-which was a plentiful portion. It was the perfect amount of spice for me but you can request the level of spiciness to your liking. We started with Thai iced tea and a chicken satay appetizer. The chicken satay was light and fresh with flavorful dipping sauces. The owners/staff are SO friendly and really get to know the regulars.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
The drunken noodles were pretty good, but the portion is very small for $16-$20. It was also sort of awkward to be solicited to write a Google Review (with a plastic prop placed on the table) before getting the bill. I'd like to come back here but I hope they either lower the prices or increase the portion sizes. Updating from three to two stars because the response from management was passive-aggressive and not apologetic at all. I won't be returning here.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite hole in the wall spots in CP for Thai. The service is excellent and they always try to accommodate your needs. My friend and I ordered the chicken satay-- yummmm! 2 skewers each! I could eat the peanut butter based dipping sauce any time. I ordered the pad broccoli with shrimp, extra spicy with brown rice. And they delivered! It was delicious!! My friend enjoyed her generous sized chicken Penang curry! She let me have a bite, YUM! Sure The Thai iced tea was very good and not too sweet which helped cool down my mouth. I will always be back for more!

Yelp
A cute neighborhood Thai joint that serves excellent food! There is outdoor seating on a patio - but even including that area, it's very small. I would eyeball guess maybe 20 people can fit here total? I've been here twice at around 7pm and both times, we were able to get seated pretty quickly. Everyone here is very nice and made us feel welcome. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup and asked for it to be as spicy as possible - and it did not disappoint! They mean business when they say spicy, which was refreshing since so many other DC places' spicy isn't that spicy. We also got the Hoy Lai Pad Prik Pow (sauted clams) and those were excellent as well. They have a happy hour special that includes some of the Chef's specials. Both dishes were very lime/citrus forward - the flavor of the Tom Yum broth especially was very heavy in lime, more than I have experienced in Tom Yum soups I've tried elsewhere. Even as someone who likes citrus, I found it a bit overwhelming at the end. The lime flavor did mix well with the spiciness so I still found the dish super tasy.

Yelp
Overall - 8/10. The service was very friendly. At first but was slow to get our drinks, but once our order was in everything came fast. I love the small hole-in-a-wall feel. My son described the service as "uncomfortably nice" as an indication of how friendly everyone was. We ordered the Heavenly Pork and the Crab Basil fried rice. My rice was really good and had a generous portion of lump crabmeat. My son's Heavenly pork was really good according to him. He was just getting over a stomach issue so he couldn't order it spicy as he would like. The mild wasn't spicy at all. We also ordered Thai teas which I would say were the weakest part of the meal and they were still good. It's neck and neck with Kook Kai's Noodle House in Silver Spring.

Yelp
Best Thai food in DC. Hands down. Fresh, flavorful and perfect every time. For dine-in or take out -- you will never be disappointed! We have become regulars here, after living in the area for several years. The staff couldn't be friendlier at this family owned spot. You are always greeted with a wave, a smile, and sometimes even a hug. The waitstaff here even knows our "go-to" order! This truly is a welcoming and inviting neighborhood spot. The restaurant is small, with about 10 or so tables. It's cozy and authentic with a inviting atmosphere. There are so many delicious items on the menu -- I encourage everyone to try everything, depending on their tastes and preferences. My favorites are: curry puffs (crispy and flavorful), spring rolls (piping hot with a fresh veggie filling), panang curry (peanutty and spicy), and crispy chicken Kaprow (crispy friend whole basil leaves with sautéed chicken and tender pieces of red & green peppers). The food here is truly top notch! You can really taste the love, care and expertise that goes into each dish. Couldn't recommend this place more! Absolutely delicious food with staff and ambiance that make it a true gem and asset to the community.

Yelp
Great little spot for good Thai. Close to the Cleveland Park metro. Very friendly staff, food is fresh and tasty. Outside seating in the warm months but not right now with the colder weather. Decorated with what looks to be beautiful Thai pieces. Seems like a mom and pop place. I've ordered delivery and to go in the past but stopped in and ate here today. Got the pad see ew and wasn't disappointed. If you're looking for something quick, delicious and convenient when you hop off the Cleveland park metro you should stop here and pick up dinner.

Rina D.

Yelp
Food is good but the phone service isn't great. I've been on hold for over 10 minutes to make Ann order after being hung up on twice and her saying can you hold for a minute. It's busy, I understand but I'm starving and I would rather she say, we aren't doing delivery instead of endlessly being placed on hold. I had to hang up and call back for her to tell me they could deliver in a weeknight but it's too late. It's too late because I was on hold.

Barbara L.

Yelp
Average. Not quiet!! I guess it depends on who is dining when you are. It's small, and seems they do mostly take out. I would recommend dining here during off-hours only. The food was good, not the best nor the worst. I asked for spicy and got level 4 out of 5 on an American scale, which was good. I had a papaya salad (delish) and tofu prik king (or whatever their basil dish is) The tofu was fried to oblivion, but the sauce was good. The portion sizes were small. I tried to add a plain sticky rice to my order but it never made it. It was pretty busy on a Sunday around 6 and only one server to deal with all the tables and the line of take out orders. All in all an ok experience.

Ivory J.

Yelp
The food was okay. The restaurant had a really strong smell that was not appealing. The place is really small, and the customer service was okay.

Yelp
The best Thai food in all of DC! The service is always wonderful. The prices are reasonable. The portions are huge and the food is absolutely delicious.

Yelp
Authentic Thai restaurant that brought me back to Thailand. This is an unassuming Thai restaurant owned and operated by a Thai family for generations. Service is warm and efficient and you cant beat the food. We moved from DC to Virginia where there's plenty of Thai restaurants but Siam House is always the best Thai food I've had. I love their Tom Kha (best I've ever had), Moo Ping, and Seafood Drunken Noodles.

Yelp
Best Thai food in DC! I've been coming here for years. The owner and staff are very nice and the food taste great.

Yelp
This is a review of their catering service. My company used Siam House for an AAPI event in our office in Arlington. This is the 2nd time we are using Siam House due to an excellent reference from the first event when my colleagues utilized their catering service. Lisa, the catering manager/lead is very friendly and helpful. She provides all the info needed to include the breakdown of the costs which is extremely helpful to companies like ours since everything has to be accounted for. Food is excellent and good quality! I have personally been to Thailand and can say that food is comparable and authentic. I plan to visit Siam House myself during my free time to try other items on the menu. They also offer delivery (for a fee) for catering which is so convenient and Lisa is very communicative when she was on her way. We really enjoyed working with Siam House and they are now our default Thai cuisine option for all events moving forward. Highly recommend their catering service for your personal needs or for company events!

Yelp
Really good food. We ordered tofu tot, house noodles and mango curry. All of those were really good. Especially the mango curry. We asked for a spicy sauce to go with the tofu tot and it paired up really well. We sat inside since it was cold but the outdoor seating would've been better if it was possible. Overall a nice restaurant with decent pricing.
google avatar

Kesanee S.

Yelp
Larb gai way too sweet, Siam house noodle is great and tasty. Service was good but slow due to high volume. There's indoor and outdoor seats. Good beer, not too bitter.

Yelp
Great food and warm service. This was my first time and I am so glad I walked in. What a gem! Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
The food is amazing! I have never order anything here and not enjoyed it. The claypot noodles and pad se ew are my person favorites. The service is great, safe are very friendly! The ambiance is very comforting and cozy. Definitely would recommend for some good Thai food.

Yelp
I LOVE Siam House. There is a reason they have won Best of DC for several years. I'm really picky about pad Thai and Siam House's Pad Thai is perfection. Don't go to Paragon- come here instead, it's just across the street. I have tried almost all of the Thai restaurants in DC over more than a decade. This is not hyperbole. There are only two I will order pad Thai from happily, and this is my favorite of those two. Every dish here is delicious though- love their pad see ew and Panang curry as well. Such warm customer service- they are always happy to see me and when I was away for three weeks, they expressed legitimate concern that something had happened to me . Do I have them on speed dial? Yes, yes I do. Please buy from this restaurant so they never go out of business. I'm not sure I could handle that kind of loss
google avatar

Morgan W.

Yelp
The Food was absolutely amazing. The service was just as good! We had the pad broccoli and the Siam noodle! Coming from NY, we know good food when we taste it. Family-owned and operated for almost 17 years
google avatar

Trang H.

Yelp
Consistent delicious Thai food in DC. It's a hole in the wall!!! My fav item is Chef's special: Sun dried beef (sweetened version). I tried this dish in other restaurants but this place has the best one!
google avatar

Madison B.

Yelp
The "Best Thai" in DC did not disappoint! I ordered Siam House to go, and my meal was absolutely wonderful! Plenty of rice, plenty of curry sauce, and plenty of food! I'm excited to dine in one day soon!
google avatar

Malva M.

Yelp
I have tried so many good Thai restaurants but Siam Thai is like going to your family restaurant. The staff remembers you and they treat everyone with respect. The food is very fresh and tasty. All around amazing food and service.

Kate S.

Yelp
THE BEST chicken fried rice I've ever had. Such kind service and delicious food, my go to restaurant when I want to treat myself

Katy J.

Yelp
I'm not a connoisseur of Thai food but my husband is, and he loved this place. Service was excellent, with very friendly and helpful servers. Prices were reasonable and there were no compulsory additional fees. They also do a good happy hour until 6.30 on weeknights. Beer selection wasn't huge, if that is important to you. We will definitely be going back, and sadly I don't say that about many places in DC these days.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
This cozy quaint space is the best Thai Restaurant in DC located in Cleveland Park on Connecticut Ave. It is family run by the original owner's daughter and delivers an authentic Thai menu with incredibly delicious and savory food. The service was efficient and professional. I was able to try the drunken noodles, pad Thai, curry puffs, salmon, and red veggie curry. All was super delicious. I literally devoured my food and am going to return as soon as possible for another meal. There is a cute outside patio for warmer weather.

Dasha J.

Yelp
Best Thai food I ever had!!! We went during happy hour and it was such a good price. Everything in the area is really expensive but we had a lot of food for a really reasonable price!! The owner was so attentive and kind, gave us GREAT recommendations (the curry is to die for can attest to that) and like, she fixed our wobbly table without us even asking :')) and she told us soooo much about each dish and was so thorough on her explanations of the different aspects and flavors of each dish. Best dish by far in my opinion is the fried chicken dumplings the dipping sauce!!!! Super yummy!!!! Will be coming back here again :D
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
The BEST Thai food I've ever had! A charming small place with incredibly friendly and attentive staff.

Carla D.

Yelp
Siam house sits among a variety of Thai restaurants in this DC area competing for our tastebuds. We are locals and have visited this restaurant twice. Both times our dishes tasted as if everything in the kitchen was cooked together. We may give this place a future visit.
google avatar

Christopher P.

Yelp
I have eaten here several times and also done take away. The food is generally quite good. Delicious dishes and great flavors. Personally, I find the Decour and ambience a bit dark so I generally take out and do not eat in. Seems a bit cramped for my taste.

Mollie M.

Yelp
We normally get our Thai from one of the two places in Woodley Park but thought we'd give one of the three in Cleveland Park a try. Got the green curry (medium spice) and the pad see ew (mild spice). The rice noodles and chicken in the pad see ew were well cooked, but it was lacking in flavor. They use normal broccoli, not Chinese broccoli so if you like the crunch of gai-lan in your pad see ew maybe order something different. Green curry had lots of veggies and meat, but there wasn't a lot of flavor beyond the pepper taste. Service was good for take out and the people at the counter were nice. May come back to try some different dishes.

James J.

Yelp
Easily accessible by metro. Excellent cuisine. Outstanding and considerate service. I will certainly revisit in the near future.

Yelp
Staff: We were greeted upon entering and the nice woman working there was very friendly. It looked like she was the only one working the front of the restaurant as we never saw anyone else helping her but she was able to manage the tables she had and customers coming in for takeout pretty well. Food: We had come in for lunch and saw that they had lunch specials where you could order and appetizer, entree and drink. I ended up ordering the tofu pad Thai, spring rolls and a Thai iced tea. My friends ordered the drunken noodle, Tom kha and green curry with chicken. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and drinks. The lunch special was definitely worth it as they gave a fair amount of food for a lunch special which we thought was awesome. Restaurant: The tables and chairs were clean and the general area of the restaurant was clean. I did knock off a star because when I walked into the only working restaurant, it was a mess. It was as if someone let their kid in and let them go all over the seat EVERYWHERE. I turned right around ran out of the restroom.

Naomi K.

Yelp
This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the city, their Thai staples are all consistently good. The service is always friendly and accommodating for dine-in or take-out. Their Pad Thai which I've ordered is few times is flavorful with generous toppings. The Drunken Noodles are also really good. I also like the curries which are rich and creamy with a nice amount of spice.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Obsessed with this place Their drunken noodles are everything and I have to pee like a race horse everytime because the servers keep dat glass FULL!! Ok fr though everything is delicious and the service is awesome. Everyone here is the sweetest and so accommodating.

Yelp
Overall quite liked this restaurant. Came for lunch with a friend. We both ordered the $16 lunch special and got the spring rolls and the Panang curry. Service was fast and the food was good.

Yelp
So far it's the tastiest Thai food I've had in the city. A craving for some good Thai food led us to searching for a spot for dinner tonight and my wife remembered seeing a place on her commute to work. It turns out that it was Siam House. I take a look at a few reviews and quickly decided that this was the spot to try. Food: *Mango curry with chicken - this was amazing and turned out to be just as delicious as I had imagined. I was happy to receive a hefty bowl of curry paired with a side of rice, which allowed me to walk out full and satisfied. I think this will be my go-to dish from now on. *Beef drunken noodles - i only got to taste a bite from my wife's plate but I can assure you that they make excellent drunken noodles. Certainly worth ordering and may get this the time if I decide to switch things up. Nice portion size as well! *Crab Rangoon - Simply the best crab rangoon I've ever had the pleasure of eating! You know how most rangoon is mostly a mushy filler with tiny bits of crab? Not this--their rangoon consisted of a nice ration of lump crab meat and cream cheese. These paired with their dipping sauce was an amazing way to start the meal. *Thai curry puff - first time having these and they were very good. I could likely make a meal out of these so we'll definitely order again as appetizers. They are very similar to empanadas, but filled with Thai deliciousness. It's our new favorite Thai spot and the service we received was great and welcoming as well. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Lillian K.

Yelp
This place has amazing service and the food was good too! They accommodated a 7 person party with no reservation and needed to split the check. Seriously a delight thank you for the delicious food. They made the tofu cashew nut with no fish sauce for me as a vegan option!
google avatar

ALEXandria H.

Yelp
Sooo friendly number 1. But the food is always good! I love the curries and siam house noodles with shrimp. The crab friend rice was excellent. They are just constantly great. You should absolutely go. I do take out often. The inside seating is small but they also have outdoor seating.

Esma D.

Yelp
Very sweet workers. The food was great. The atmosphere is very nice and. We liked it here very much and would recommend it to everyone!!
google avatar

Rizma W.

Yelp
This is easily my new favorite Thai restaurant. Great service and outstanding food. I ordered the Thai curry puffs and the crab basil fried rice. Everything was absolutely fantastic. The Thai curry puffs came in an order of two. The best way to describe them is a delicious cross between a samosa and an empanada...with a Thai twist, of course. The cucumber sauce was a nice, piquant addition to an already delicious dish. The basil crab fried rice was excellent. So many delicious flavors packed into one dish, with sweet crab meat evenly dispersed throughout. As I mentioned, the service was great. The staff were polite and friendly and my order was ready as soon as I arrived. As of 2/3/21 this restaurant is not offering dine-in service yet. I called to place my takeout order and it was ready within 20 minutes. You can pay over the phone and they have a small table where you can sign for your order when you arrive. Be advised that only one person is allowed in the restaurant to pick up at a time.

Mariah S.

Yelp
Crispy Chicken Krapow! Try it today! The explosion of flavors, is insane. I don't like going to DC too often now a days, but I'd go for this.

Shreya G.

Yelp
Best Thai food in DC!! Have eaten here multiple times and consistently good food and service! We got the Siam house noodle and drunken noodles. Flavors and spice levels are perfect. Has a cute indoor and outdoor area for nicer days.

Bhuvan P.

Yelp
Loved the food, the service and the vibes! The owner of restaurant was very nice and sweet and we had a good conversation. Everything on the menu looks good, we got the drunken noodles, mango curry, pad Thai, spring rolls, shrimp fried rice and loved it all!

Lionel B.

Yelp
Excellent food with incredible and attentive service! This is a DC gem that really cares about its customers. It is small and very personable.

Yelp
Best Thai food I've ever had!! The restaurant is small but so cozy and inviting. The server was so friendly and helpful. I will be back soon!!
