A Guide to Telluride, Colorado—America’s Most Beautiful Mountain Town | Vogue

"An in-town Thai restaurant in Telluride known for its curries and cozy atmosphere." - Elise Taylor

"Even though Thailand is thousands of miles from Telluride, Siam has perfected an edible ode to the country. In fact, the food here is so good that 5280 magazine named Siam one of the best Thai restaurants in the entire state of Colorado. At this downtown spot, Thailand-born and -raised chefs cook the dishes of their home country, using as much local and organic meat as possible. The king crab and lobster tempura, pineapple-and-red-curry mussels, and peanut-dusted pra ram stir fry will have you so besotted with Thai cuisine, you’ll be digging for your passport to take the next flight to Bangkok."

Where To Eat and Drink in Telluride

"Tom kha soup, choo-chee chicken, roti, beef satay…by now anyone’s mouth should be watering. Siam and its Thai-inspired cuisine has garnered a devout following since opening in 2006 and that loyalty will help the restaurant as it navigates new ownership. On a previous visit, the handroll portion of the menu was unavailable but that hasn’t stopped the masses from showing up. Arrive early to nab a table." - Amanda Faison

We ate Pad Thai, Khao Padh fried rice, and Drunken noodles. We enjoyed eating all three dishes. Highly recommend this place!

Disappointed, Again — After 20 Years as Locals We’ve been coming to Siam for nearly 20 years—we’re longtime locals and have always loved the food. But unfortunately, the service continues to be the weak point, and last night was no exception. We arrived about 15 minutes early, were the first guests there, and waited patiently on the steps soaking up the sun. The staff saw us—there are plenty of windows and the front door was open. A couple walked up a couple of minutes before opening, and despite us clearly waiting longer, the host went straight to them, seated them, and completely ignored us. No acknowledgment, no explanation. It felt intentional and was frankly rude. When we were finally seated, we didn’t even open the menus—we knew exactly what we wanted and placed our order right away. That same couple..relaxed with two drinks before even ordering—and still got their food well before us. This is sadly not an isolated incident. We keep coming back for the food, but the consistently dismissive, inattentive service makes us think twice every time. It’s disappointing to feel this kind of treatment in a place we’ve supported for decades.

The sampling appetizer was phenomenal with an exceptional peanut sauce! The curry and noodle entrees were good. The restaurant has a nice decor and being popular, as soon as we got in it filled up every seat. It can be noisy at times but not to an unpleasant level. Our server took our orders as soon as we got seated and the food arrived timely. Good service. Happy we booked an earlier time.

Google
It’s was a little tricky finding information online about this restaurant but we stopped by anyways and we are SO HAPPY we did!!! We have celiac- they had a ton of GF options. The staff were all friendly- multiple people came to our table. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back next time we’re in town

Placed an order for pickup via Toast. It said ready in 20 minutes. I didn’t receive a receipt or any sort of order confirmation so I showed up 30 minutes after placing the order and was told it wouldn’t be ready for at least another twenty minutes, but that they’d text me. Waited outside, came back in 30 minutes after receiving no text. Still not ready. Took over an hour and a half from placing my simple order. I’m very confused because the restaurant wasn’t even full and all I ordered was 1 single curry. $36 and an extremely long wait for very average Thai food. Wish I could have cancelled the order and got my money back

I usually don’t like to leave reviews but this just had to be heard . First we arrive at the restaurant and wanted to order Togo. That’s cool so we did that . I walked back inside and asked for an estimated time and the gentleman said about and hour to an hour and a half. Alright that’s fine . So we then decided to go back to the hotel back at mints in village since it was going to take a while . Once we finally got the the last stop they texted us about 3 minutes after we got there . That’s cool I get it was our fault for deciding to do that however the fact that the gentleman said it was gonna take that long AND that toast had said it was going to take that long made us assume that we had time to just go and come back . And then at the end of it all we found a hair in the food . Mind you I was chewing the food and felt the hair in my mouth and pulled out that long strand . The food was good but it was just a bit upsetting to have found that .

Google
I know the reviews here are hit and miss, but I always want to share a good one! I think you may want to order the right thing here....my husband maybe would not have given a 5-star review (he ordered the short ribs and they were in his opinion, not worth the expense but he enjoyed it just very $$$) but the appetizer was wonderful, the Drunken Noodles were excellent! The staff was very helpful and warm staff. We made a reservation, which was perfect because it is small. The food was all very good. It's expensive, but high-quality, simple presentation, and again, very good service! Appreciated the night, thank you Siam!

Google
Slowest service known to man. Ended up leaving after waiting 45 min for a table, another 30 to order and 40 for food. Left without being served food. Went to smugglers, union and had one of the best hamburgers ever

Yelp
We didnt have a reservation and were told by the host, who seemed very confused, that he could seat is in maybe 30 mins or 45 mins or just sometime. Anyway we kept waiting because we had already been waiting for so very long. After being seated at the bar, it took the bartender a while to take our drinks and appetizer order and he didn't acknowledge or smile at us even once. We did get our drinks of Thai margarita and sweet basil martini quite quick and they were well made! Its a very small space with even limited outdoor seating and gets very loud as such. Our appetizer of Curry puff were great and we ordered a second round, because of how good it was. We also placed our order for entree at the same time. Our second appetizer came soon enough but we kept waiting and waiting and waiting for our food. When I asked the bartender about our food status, he just said he didn't know. After a while I had to flag the manager to ask him and he said "kitchen is backed up". Few minutes later he came by to say that kitchen did a mistake and our order was right now being made. All this while we are sitting here with 2 young kids eager to just leave!! Meanwhile we see all the the tables that got seated after us, getting their entrees. That was wonderful!! At least another 10 minutes go by before we get our food and for what it's worth the food was very very good. Well done, well spiced and balanced in every which way. Again our bartender never came to ask us if we might need another drink or what had happened to our food. For their part, they comped off 2 items of our order but the whole experience left a bitter enough taste for us to not want to dine again or add it to my list of restaurants to share with friends and family

Yelp
Bonsoir, This is to inform you that restaurant SIAM did not honor the reservation. We arrived 10 minutes late; the reservation had been canceled without notice. Xavier D.

Yelp
An amazing restaurant to check out if you are ever in Telluride! Made the mistake of ordering way too much food but it was well worth it. The my friend and I shared the yellow curry and short rib which he didn't not realize was also a curry. But the short rib curry was one of the best curries I've ever had. Will be coming back here the next time I'm in Telluride! The staff were very friendly and even gave us a free dessert.

Yelp
The dinner was delicious! From the dumplings and sake to the Tom kha and massaman curry! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great food and service. Cool atmosphere as well. We were seated promptly and our server was very attentive. He was also from our hometown of New Orleans.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant! Made a reservation about 2 hours before. Super small spot but many were picking up takeout. We ordered the vegetables tempura. Pad Thai and Pad Woo Sen. everything was SO good. Place was full by 6:45. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great Thai food! The coconut shrimp soup was spot on. I got the Penang curry with shrimp, and it did not disappoint! Great drinks and service!

Yelp
Incredible Thai food! Despite reading mixed reviews on their takeout orders (because of wait time) our experience ended being great. It was ready at their estimated time and was hot and fresh when we got back to our hotel.

Yelp
Food: 30/50 Service: 20/25 Ambience: 20/25 Total: 70/100 We got lucky as a group of 4 walking in with no reservations on a Saturday evening-- we were seated at the bar right away. The seats were pretty uncomfortable and had no foot rest - not on the chair or on the bar. A small detail that makes a difference especially if you're snowboarding all day! Overall, my experience at Siam was good. The food was standard for Thai. (Taken with a grain of salt considering it is a ski town in West Colorado) We were up sold into buying two tempura apps - when in reality one was plenty for the four of us to share. Unfortunately two of us got sick from the tempura, perhaps it was something in the batter. I split the beef satay and siam salad with my other friend. It was enough food for us to be satisfied. Hubby got the volcano with medium heat, he said it was a good balance of sweet and spicy. The fun part about this dish, volcano, they light the dish on fire upon serving-- do not blow out the fire as it supposed to go out itself! Drinks were good. I had a "ranch water" - tequila silver, lime juice, topo chico. A friend got the Thai Liner - a spin on espresso martini with Thai Iced Tea. We thought it was clever and my friend enjoyed the beverage!

Yelp
Always fabulous! This time there was an issue with their liquor license and they couldn't serve alcohol nor could we bring any in. Not good!

Yelp
Sat at the bar and Shes was our server/bartender. She was great but had no help from her managers as she has almost the whole floor. They could do a better job staffing but we did come during the Blue Grass Festival so I'm sure people wanted off. Food was delicious but pricing on menu was misleading. Portions are big enough for sharing or taking leftovers. Small space but very cute with inside/outside seating.

Yelp
I have no idea why this place has the rating it does. Ambience is great. Ordered the sweet basil martini which was so fresh. Siam Rolls were very fresh. The Tom Yum soup was the BOMB. The lemongrass really made it amazing. Had the Masamann curry which was also very good. Def a spot to try in Telluride (make reservations ahead of time).

Yelp
Always visit on my trips to Telluride. Kai soi with beef rib and pad Thai were so good!

Yelp
Great food and flavors. Wait staff super nice. Ate outside on the porch and it was beautiful. Just be warned - the curry dishes come in "no heat, medium, hot and very hot" - we were surprised and disappointed that the Medium green curry was so hot we could barely eat it - and we love hot food.

Yelp
This gem was a lifesaver to us when our reservation for another restaurant was messed up. They were pretty busy even at 9pm. We were able to be seated right away on their outside patio, which had heaters to keep us nice and warm. The food was amazing and service great!!

Yelp
A five star all around experience. Seated on time, amazing service, cute and cozy restaurant. And the food! Good sized portions - wonderful Pa Nang curry! Will definitely come back next time in Telluride.

Yelp
I heard from multiple friends about this place, so I prioritized it when visiting. I'm sad to say I'm disappointed. I read that it's not that spicy for typical Thai, so I ordered my noodles hot since I like heat. I got the pad sew ew, which probably shouldn't be ordered spicy, but it was very hot, and the spice flavor overpowered anything else. I ordered takeout, so I can't speak to the service. The restaurant is cute inside and probably makes for a nice experience. Learn from my mistakes so you have a better meal.

Yelp
I really have no complaints about their food. We've eaten here many times and the food is good, but, our most recent visit was a major disappointment. I placed an online order at 7:40 on a Monday night. Pickup time said 9:25. Ok, that's a long wait but oh well. My issues came down to the way they charge for takeout. Every dish is an extra $2 (probably to cover the cost of the 3rd party system they use for takeout) plus they charged us a mandatory 15% gratuity and a 2% take out charge, plus almost 9% tax after all that. So a subtotal of $213 ended up costing us $275. On top of that, our order wasn't actually ready until just after 10 pm. We had an order for food for 6 people and they kept moving our order back in order to fill the smaller orders ahead of us. I have no issues tipping for takeout but it should not be obligatory. Especially if it takes 30 minutes longer than we were told. We would have been much better off just dining in. It's really too bad that Wok of Joy moved over to the mountain village side because they would definitely be our number 1 choice for Thai food in the area.

Yelp
Wonderful meal at Siam! We absolutely loved the food here, it is the best Thai we have ever had. Our waiter, who was awesome, told us they specialize in Northern Thai food which is why the flavors are a little different but so delicious. Our family of 5 each ordered a different dish and everyone loved their food. We had yellow curry with tofu, garden plate with shrimp, short rib curry noodles, triple nipple (my boys thought this was the best), sweet and sour pork. Yes, it is expensive, but everything in telluride is expensive, and prices were reasonable considering the location.
google avatar

Erik N.

Yelp
This is a very small Thai restaurant in the middle of town. It can be difficult to get reservations because it seats only like 25 people. But it is absolutely out of this world delicious. Even if you have to get an hour reservation do not miss this place while you are in Telluride, it was some of the best Thai we have ever had.

Yelp
Super cute spot in Telluride. Siam is located in the more residential/non retail area. I am assuming it was a house that they turned into a restaurant. I love that idea! This definitely added to the homely feel of the town of Telluride. The spot is very small, maybe 8-10 tables plus bar seating so make a reservation or be patient if you have to wait. Atmosphere and idea of restaurant is a 5. Food was really good too. We had the Tom kha soup, pad Thai with shrimp and massaman curry with beef. Loved the soup! A tad disappointed in the curry bc we did specifically say no peanuts on anything bc I am allergic. Unfortunately the curry came out with peanuts and it's a good thing we noticed it or I would have went to town on it bc I was starving and that wouldn't have been good. He got the pad Thai right with no peanuts so he clearly heard us. Oh well. So why only 2 stars? Service. Honestly If I was eating solely on service they would have gotten a 0. We arrived and nobody greeted or even spoke to us for 10 min. There is a hostess stand so we weren't sure if we were supposed to just seat ourselves so we asked and they informed us there should be a hostess. She eventually came after almost 15 min of us waiting at the door (& nope I am not over exaggerating the time, I kept checking my watch). What is even worse is a server (the same server) passed us 3 different times to get to his tables outside so he clearly saw us standing there and nobody had talked to us yet. We were finally seated outside (sidenote totally cute table seating outside) and then waited another 10 min before a server came up to us. By this time I'm annoyed, it has been almost 30 min and the only person to talk to us was because we asked to talk to someone. I hate to assume the reason for bad service but it was absolutely memorable and not in a good way.

Michael F.

Yelp
Waited forty minutes for a carryout order after I was told it would be ready. At the thirty five minute mark asked if they be like anything. Got my order wrong on top of it.

Yelp
Outstanding Food....Always a go to place when we are in Telluride. The staff are friendly and helpful in making your choices.

Yelp
No reservations available so we sat at the bar. Great service from the busy bartender. The two of us ate like pigs for $120. We'll be back.

Yelp
Food is good. The low score is due to mockery from the bartender on me during my 2nd visit, which could just be a case of racism (I'm Asian American). Details are below. On my 1st visit, I waited for almost 30 minutes at the bar just to put in an order. Granted it was crowded, but the wait was really long at the bar. This may have been targeted at me, but I had no proof. Because of the long wait, I only gave $4 tip on $33 pre-tax order, totaling $41. On my 2nd visit, the bartender mocked me claiming that I only gave $3 tip on $50 order to his friend (another customer at the bar, sits next to me). I couldn't believe it; that the bartender (who didn't even know my name) mocked me in front of his friend saying I gave $3 tip on $50 order. I was pissed. hmm... what are my options. Ok sure, I gave more than 15% on a close to $50 dollars order on my 2nd visit; but I definitely won't come back and am writing a review. Now I think about it, all this could have just been racism toward me because I'm Asian American in a predominately white crowd. All other restaurant staffs seem reasonable/nice, and the food is good. So giving it 2-stars for my experience.

Nadia P.

Yelp
Yelp def had it wrong w the lower rating. This place has the most authentic Thai food I have ever had! Every bite had salty, sweet, sour, savory taste in it. The server gave excellent recommendations. There were two of us and we had 1 app Siam rolls (fantastic, fresh, crispy). The small Tom yum soup (don't skip this!). And the Masamann Curry w white rice. The meals are def share able. Also we had the most beautifully delicious sweet basil martini (okay multiple of them!) So fresh w basil infused and cucumber freshness, perfect for summer. The Chefs def know what legit Thai food is all about!!!
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
Expensive for the quality, and we know telluride market is inflated. All main courses we ordered were pretty bland. Their competitor down about 5 blocks had better pad Thai for half the price.... 2 stars for staff being nice and professional.
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
We had great service and great food while eating here. We had attempted to eat here our second night in Telluride, but they were full with reservations. The next night we went right at opening and they were able to squeeze us in prior to their reservations. Needless to say, make a reservation! As for the food, it was really solid. I always do Pad Thai (I know... very basic) but we also got a mango shrimp curry on the recommendation of our server, and that was SO GOOD.

Wayne K.

Yelp
The food is some of the best in a town filled with excellent restaurants. But I have to ask, what's with all the broken window shades on the second floor? Crack house decor?

Ace A.

Yelp
SIAM is the best Thai food in Colorado. By far. Highly recommend this incredible local hotspot

Yelp
Recommended by owners of the AirBnB we are staying at. We wanted to dine outside but all reservations were taken at preferred times, so we took out. Got Colorado beer from store next door. Order via an app was easy with a few minor glitches, app told me it would take 30 minutes, in reality it was 10 minutes and the app warned me of the change in schedule estimate. Pickup was super easy and friendly. Vegetarian spring rolls were outstanding. Spouse's tam Yom (coconut) soup was enjoyable. My Panang curry was good, not too spicy, although nowhere close to the best ever. 5's across the board for location, service, and atmosphere, 4's for food and value, for an overall score of 5. Recommended!

Joe G.

Yelp
So good. Always packed. Get there early & Sit on the patio. Great service and local staple in town for years. And for good reason.

Pat M.

Yelp
Food fresh and cooked perfectly; service attentive but not intrusive; ambiance great.

Donna P.

Yelp
I ordered a green curry dish with green beans and basil and green peppers and tofu. Unbeknownst to me. It came like soup. They were just a few beans some noodles, and I just felt like it was swimming at a bunch of coconut milk with no taste. Total waste of $27. Will never go back again .When I mentioned it to the waiter, he basically said that's the way it's done in Asia. I've traveled all over Asia and there is no restaurant in Asia. that would serve food like that.

Joseph O.

Yelp
Tried to contact management twice before writing this review but never received any response. Unfortunately the negative reviews are correct this place doesn't give a hoot about their customers and are only after the $$$. Had family visiting and placed a very large takeout order. When we went to pick it up we asked for it to be bagged in 4 bags instead of 2 so the bags wouldn't rip open on the walk home. They refused to rebag the order and rudely told us that the bags were fine and would not tear. Not only did they tear through on two sides but the curry spilled all over my son's shoes, coat, and pants. So angry that we were charged over $60 in service charges for such horrible service and they couldn't spare 2 extra brown paper bags on an order that was over $400. Totally inexcusable! You've lost a loyal customer and I will no longer be recommending you to friends.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
If you like mediocre food with rude obnoxious service, this is the place for you! Siam has had its day. For years they crammed people round woefully inadequate tables (6-8 people round a table for 4) and we put up with it because they food was ok, and they were the only Thai in town. Now there is another Thai restaurant (The Wok of Joy, on Colorado Ave) that does better food, and has good service. There is no need to put up with over-priced mediocrity served by people who clearly detest their jobs. I'm tired of being spoken to like I've interrupted their day for the 14th time. Although, on the upside, their terrible service has at least be consistent, so that's something I suppose. Time to say so long to Siam!
google avatar

Lou S.

Yelp
Excellent food and a very reasonable price for the entrees. I am definitely going to return!
google avatar

Brett R.

Yelp
My wife and I were in town for a few days of skiing and made reservations for dinner at Siam. Let me start by saying that the restaurant was simply not to our taste, but it was very crowded otherwise. People seemed to be having a good time, so maybe it was just us. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation, but were not seated until 35 minutes after our reservation time. The hostess was busy trying to bus tables as well as seat guests and was a bit frazzled. She had that practiced way of walking right past you without acknowledging you were there. Once seated, we noticed that the table had barely been wiped down. There was food still on the table and one of our chairs. Our waiter was very friendly and professional and did a great job. However, you could tell he was scrambling around trying to keep up with everything. For dinner, we had soup starters, seaweed salad, pad Thai and grilled shrimp in Volcano sauce. Everything was served in a timely manner, but everything was just warm. With the exception of the shrimp in volcano sauce, everything tasted good. The shrimp was huge and well prepared, but were buried under the overpowering sauce. I don't remember the exact total of the bill, but it seemed in line with prices for a ski town. We chalked the experience up to the fact that it was just not our kind of place. For example, we expect to be seated at or near our reservation time and to have our table and chairs clean when we sit down. And, as with many tourist areas, I assume Telluride struggles with getting enough service staff due to the high cost of living in the area. Having said that, the place was packed and people seemed to really be enjoying themselves.

Izzy M.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! The taste of everything left me in awe! Staff was kind and quick on their feet! They made me and my family feel welcome. You can taste the authenticity of the food and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great family outing! Also! Everyone needs to try the sticky rice!!!

Yelp
Worst pad Thai we've ever had... and $25? Not sure how this was recommended. They say they don't "over sauce" their pad Thai but we literally got plain white noodles with NO SAUCE. Find literally anywhere else to eat here, super disappointed.

Michael M.

Yelp
Wjen this place is busy forget it because they quickly get overwhelmed. The food is good but make sure you have a reservation and forget trying takeout that on average takes 2+ hours
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
I haven't made a restaurant review in years but I feel compelled after the terrible service given. Siam was recommended to us by friends. We were very excited to check it out. Kyle was our server and this guy ruined the whole meal. We sat down and were not greeted for over 10 minutes. Kyle seemed annoyed we didn't have our order completely ready. He then brought the wrong drinks and was slow to make the correction. He was incredibly occupied by impressing a large table and forgot about us. We sat for 20 + after eating and finally grabbed someone to get our check and box. Box finally comes and Kyle just stumbles around asking if we need a check. Honestly, there are amazing dining options in Telluride. Save your time and money.

Christopher L.

Yelp
Food is decent. But service - wow. They are greedy I have to say. Had our concierge make a reservation for September 5. Called the evening before to cancel once I got their text reminder, from my phone log I see I called at 7.45 pm and left a 1 minute voice mail. On Sept. 5 we ordered takeout (we wanted to eat earlier). Then the next day I get a $350 no show on my credit card. And worse, they said I called to cancel only one hour before dinner (nope), and for whatever reason did not believe we ordered takeout that day, even after showing them the receipt. No fun being called a liar. Man, I'm guessing this guy is not a Buddhist. Not going back there. Ever. Try the other Thai place in town - better food, and nicer people for sure.

Yelp
Had a great time. Great service, great cocktails, excellent food. Short rib khao soi was super rich but out of this world. Small cozy restaurant but each table is treated like family. Will def return next time!

Yelp
Volcano sauce made the tempura too soggy. But okay. Tried the curry it was good and the triple nipple was soso

Yelp
Always a fave. Been here multiple times this stay and everyone we take loves it!!!! Make a reservation to ensure a good and easy time.

Yelp
One of the best Thai meals I've ever had! Get the Khao Soi (braised boneless short ribs) it was UNREAL. Amazing service and just a sweet quiet spot!

Yelp
Unable to get verification of canceled reservation. Yelp interface kept saying try again later.
