"Pick-up and Delivery only Detroit style pizza shop"
"A small side door at Scarlet Oak in Navy Yard explains the name behind the pint-sized takeout and delivery operation that’s been going strong since fall 2020. Neighborhood regulars flock to the tiny carryout for Detroit-style pizzas baked with Wisconsin brick and mozzarella cheeses and finished with a double racing stripe of zesty pizza sauce. An attached coffee shop and burrito bar called Earlybird joined the mix in late 2023 with breakfast tacos, assorted pastries, espresso drinks, and creative lattes. Morning-to-midday customers can sit and work in the adjoining restaurant (with free WiFi)." - Tierney Plumb, Emily Venezky
"Navy Yard’s takeout and delivery-only store serves Earlybird breakfast by day and a variety of Detroit-style pies by night (and afternoon). Highlights include a chicken Parm pizza, a New York-style chopped-cheese pizza, and a mumbo chicken pizza featuring cheese, jalapeños, red and green onions, and fried chicken slathered in mumbo sauce. Can’t make up your mind? You can order half-and-half pizzas to maximize your taste-testing options." - Hannah Yasharoff
"Both NFC and AFC Championship games on TVs with sound on at Scarlet Oak. Specials on Commanders mumbo wings and pizza during the playoffs run." - Vinciane Ngomsi
"Navy Yard takeout and delivery pizza spot brings back its Kentucky Hot Brown Pie ($28) in celebration of the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby. The pie will be available from Wednesday, May 1 through Sunday, May 5. The popular pie’s shredded turkey, tomato slices, bacon bits, parsley, mornay sauce, mozzarella crust pays homage to the Kentucky Hot Brown sandwich. Pre-order here." - Vinciane Ngomsi, Tierney Plumb
"A small side door at Scarlet Oak in Navy Yard explains the name behind the ghost kitchen inside that’s been going strong since at fall 2020 debut. Neighborhood regulars flock to the mini takeout operation to pick up Detroit-style pizzas baked with Wisconsin brick and mozzarella cheeses and finished with a double racing stripe of zesty pizza sauce. There’s cheese, pepperoni, and a “Fahgettaboudit” option that piles on homemade Italian sausage, roasted peppers, and grilled onions. Co-owner Brian Schram was inspired to bring Detroit-style pies to Navy Yard after a visit to underground L.A. hotspot Dough Daddy while quarantining out West." - Tierney Plumb, Eater Staff
