The bartender sergio was a hot mess, but very nice guy and friendly. He had could not concentrate and would start something and then do something else. Took a while to get our id's checked and then get our drinks. I asked to close out like 3 times, had to literally stand at the register and ask him to close me out. The tab was wrong and he made me signed the itemized receipt with the credit for the pretzels I never had. Atmosphere was nice, I like how it wasn't dark like a dive bar. Good mix crowd, I would go back but close out each time. Their kitchen somehow was backed up cause the people next to us waited like 45 minutes for flat bread. I think this place is good for drinks only.

So happy to have this spot as our neighborhood bar. The best music I’ve been looking for in San Diego it’s always my dream playlist on. Affordable drinks and pool tables. Rory is a great bartender and we can’t wait for football season.

I drive by here everyday on the way to my kids school and saw this place open up so I decided to give it a try. Walking up I was a bit thrown off. The windows are somewhat double sided in that you can see out but can’t really see in. I almost wasn’t sure they were open. Once inside I was very pleasantly surprised. The bartenders were both very nice, their drink recommendations were fantastic and the music was on point. Hope they stick around, it’s always nice to have great new spots pop up in the neighborhood.💯

This place has quickly become one of my favorite bars. Good atmosphere and great service. The bartender is super chill and friendly. Happy hour every day from 5-7pm, free pool and 2 bucks off drinks and food.

Great local dive bar. Plays local football, fights, etc on PPV. They had a DJ on a Saturday night. He played his own personal preference set and would not take requests even when tipped. My question is why hire a DJ if he doesn't play for the people in the bar?!

Nice, cozy dive-y bar. Music is good, and the drinks are fun. Karaoke on Wednesdays has a short turnaround if you want to sing a lot.

Jessica the bartender was a weirdo she sitting behind the bar on her phone with her back turned and when i was trying to pay my tab i said excuse me politely like 4 times then i raised my voice and said HEY when she wasn't responding then she turned around and told me not to do that in a snarky way. I wouldn’t recommend going in if shes there she kills the vibe just go to fast times across the street that place is sick

I'm happy to have this as my local watering hole. I like to play pool and it's free during happy hour 5-7. They have plenty of screens, so it gets loud and fills up during games. They also have good happy hour food and drink specials. They share a kitchen with Bay Hill, so their menu is delicious, just shorter. The bartenders are always friendly and fast. They have a nice beer list including several local beers and Russian River.

To be honest I'm not a big fan of smaller bars most times... I've been coming here with my boyfriend for a few months now and Adrian and Nikki are always our bartenders here and they are AMAZING. I always asks them to surprise me with something good and they have yet to disappoint. They are both so personable. The vibes are always good when they are here. I don't come here nearly as much as I use to but if I know they are here I will try to show up. AMAZING PEOPLE!!!

SUCH A BLAST! Hubby took me here as a surprise, loving the name, inside joke for us, we enjoyed ourselves like teenagers! So much fun, the drinks were great and the food was good. Played darts and I love darts! Had not played in years!! Friends joined us and it was all over!! great great memories!! Bartender, female, I think single mom, we loved her!

It's not a huge place but it's a real good vibe to it. Its sorta an upscale dive bar. It's a great addition to the area which is either super white or super douchie. It has high ceilings which makes the music echo and boom. There's 8 TVs for sports and the food channel that was on when I came. With 20 people it feels crowded. Capacity is probably about 75. It's a cozy place for sure. There's not a lot of parking available as it shares a lot with a bigger restaurant next door. I didn't eat anything here but the food didn't look too bad. The prices for beer is about 8 bucks. Cocktails is 12 bucks. And wine is 9. Happy I came on a Friday night at 10pm. It's a 21+ bar and closes at midnight. Solid place. Check it out!

Absolutely awesome spot. Small and cozy Has darts, pool table, DJ night, Karaoke night etc. Incredibly nice staff and fun to chat with. It's a great local vibe that welcomes everyone. Super clean Well made drinks Clean as can be No drama, it's a place where you can hang out, take a date, enjoy a GNO, anything and not be bothered. This is a great location and is a must visit

So upsetting that I have been here several times and have had a great experience. Drinks are overpriced in my opinion, but the ambiance has always made up for it. Tonight they chose to play several songs that were derogatory towards our current president, which I found very distasteful. The bartender kept yelling f$&$ Donald Trump. I felt extremely uncomfortable and will never be back

The owners of Bay Hill Tavern in Clairemont have converted a former money loan shop next door into an intimate bar, Side Piece. The operating hours were from 5 pm to midnight daily with happy hour between 5 and 7 pm. The inside had numerous flat-screen TVs for viewing sporting events, a pool table in one corner, and a dart board in another corner. Parking at the venue was limited to a few spaces out front and then several more in the back that were shared with BHT. The bar food choices were limited to six appetizers... wings, pretzels, flatbread, chips & dip, skins, and fries. From this list, I picked the wings with salt & pepper seasoning (versus spicy). The seven pieces were served with carrots, celery, and ranch dressing. The size of the wings was average while the coating was fairly crispy. On the evening of my visit, a deejay was setting up a karaoke station for future mic nights. This place has the potential to be a buzzy hang out spot as a complement to its adjacent larger brethren. For now, I rated my experience at Side Piece with three stars until the business has more time to develop.

This bar serves as the "side piece" to Bay Hill Tavern who owns and operates both sides of the business. It was a former pawn shop and they retained the discreet features of one with the darkened windows. The entrance is intended to be incognito but obvious if you see the cheeky sign and know where to look. It has all the makings of a low-key, after-work hang out spot to watch the most relevant sporting events as it does host a multitude of flat screen TV's with speakers blaring out the commentary. And loud it was during our visit, but it did not deter us from partaking in their sips offered at $12 for the "Stiff-ies" and "Softies" cocktails. The exception was for the Single Barrel Old Fashioned for $13 which was mixed with Bay Hill Tavern's own single barrel bourbon. Dangerously stiff and smooth this one was and for such a reasonable price. In addition to cocktails and beers, they have food which is served directly from Bay Hill Tavern's kitchen, but they are the smaller formatted items such as their wings, pretzels, flatbread, chips & dip, skins, and fries. I anticipate this chill neighborhood bar to be a hit if it has not already kicked off since our visit Sep 2023.

Very chill neighborhood bar with awesome bartenders, killer cocktails & drafts, and several big screen tv's for viewing live sports. They have a low key happy hour from 5-7 and have finally expanded what was once a paltry food menu into one with solid bar grub. I like the spicy pep/jalapeño flatbread, chicken quesadilla and smashburger. they also have introduced karaoke night, which is always a hit with the neighborhood. Side Piece isn't for everyone and this is a secret so... DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!

Nice space. Free pool during happy hour. Great bartenders. Friendly crowd. Bar food is OK. Just bar food. Check it out. Parking sucks big time but there's Valet parking.

I came in on a Thursday and Ally was the most pleasant bartender I've ever encountered. She made my drinks perfect! Two thumbs up experience can't wait to bring my friends here.

We went to Side Piece on a Wednesday when it was karaoke night. Happy hour was from opening until 7:00, and we arrived at around 6:00. I enjoyed the draught white wine and my husband got a blonde draft beer. I ordered a flatbread pizza and he had a smashburger. We enjoyed both. The DJ ran the karaoke and music between the karaoke was good. We had a good time and left around 9:30 and it was still pretty busy.

My husband and I have been living in the area for over 3 years and Side Piece's main business Bay Hill has been nothing short of spectacular. Side piece has much to learn... Their bartenders were relatively short-tempered and don't bother to listen. We paid for their jukebox service which was cut off after 30-40 seconds of our song, which was ok considering it was Sunday afternoon so football... when we inquired we were met with a hard wall of "it's not my problem". Like I said, we're locals and come to these establishments often so to be dismissed that way was kind of odd and, honestly heartbreaking. We would have understood if they said sorry and offered a refund for the song we paid for. We eventually got our refund.

This right here is where I love to shoot pool and watch my free ufc fights! The bar has great community and friends, and I'd love to give a shout to my favorite Bartenders Tara and Liv, Thank you for everything and everyone else.

Awesome bar! Stopped in for a drink tonight and there was karaoke. Not always a fan but the host Tim was awesome. Tara is rad too! Def will be back :)

What a joke, went with my wife and daughter for a few drinks last night. Started out ok, but then were completely ignored for the remainder of time. Food is minimal but ok ( comes from the bar next door Bay Park Tavern) it was ok but the staff was dismal. Only got one drink out of them. Not sure why this bar exists. They get two stars only because of the food from the bar next door

New spot with room to grow... just small appetizers at the moment but the drinks won't disappoint. Staff is as legit as always since it's Bayhill fam.

My friends and I went to Side Piece for happy hour. We had such a great time playing music on the jut-box and watching the padres game. The food and drinks were perfect. Loved the vibe and bartenders were friendly too.

A hidden gem in Bay Park with Sergio at the bar doing his thing with mixes and pours... A solid guy and cool dude! Monday's is happy hour ALL day! Drinks and food at a great price! 5 Stars hands down! Oh yeah and the jamz....

A hidden gem of San Diego. From the outside it looks unassuming, but the inside is a sports/pool lovers dream. Good music, good food, new pool tables, and comfortable booths round it out. This is a terrific spot to watch UFC or boxing. Check this out if you're in the area!!!

Great little bar. The service is great and they're very attentive. It's an elevated dive bar with the dive bar pricing. Drinks were cold and the setting was great. Pool tables as well. Big plus. They also have lots of tvs. Will be coming back!

Let me start by saying i absolutely love Bay Hill Tavern and figured this connecting little bar would be just as amazing! The drinks were good price and the atmosphere is cool, even love that they had the UFC fight playing! BUT, the workers from bayhill had gotten off work and for some reason felt the need to hog the pool table the entire night. we tried many times to play and were told we could not play each other and we were the ones to PAY to play against their own workers? seems weird. i'd probably just go to a different bar in the area in the future unless they'll start to actually accommodate their paying customers.

Love the new spot for adults to come hang out and drink. Love the side piece options you can get a Modelo and shot of tequila for $10

Great atmosphere. Lots of TVs to watch your favorite sports games. We had the homemade chips and onion dip. Fabulous!!! Good selection of adult beverages. Attentive service. We will be back!!!

Why are you reading this? Get over there and get you a Side Piece!!! Great time with kickass people!!! My wife and I had a blast with the adults only area. BayHill is badass too, but sometimes adults want to talk and be around just other adults. So glad that they are finally open. Don't cry about parking because people cross streets in other areas too so get a few extra steps in to make up for the alcohol!!! Get that Side piece!!!

Wonderful place to unwind. The exact kind of bar needed in that area. The bathrooms are exquisite. I took a 12 pound shit there.

Super Fun and a great Atmosphere. We did karaoke Tuesday for the first time and we had the time of our life. Drinks are pretty cheap. Staff is super nice and great to talk to. 100% recommend coming here.
