This is an American burger institution, so we had to try it on our way down to OKC (a little out of the way, but not by much). It was pretty empty when we arrived, but the place has an overall cozy vibe and very friendly workers.
We ordered the famous fried onion (depression) burger, a cheeseburger for our daughter, a large basket of fries, and a side salad. I think we're perhaps the first people to order a salad there in 50 years because here's what came out: shredded iceberg lettuce (like you would put on a burger), some diced tomatoes, and a ton of shredded cheddar cheese (like you would put on a coney dog). So, yeah, joke's on us! The fries were thin and crispy, but there was zero salt on them and then you kind of had to eat them with the fork because they got so small and nubby towards the bottom. As for the burger, well, we hate to say this but it just wasn't that good. Very bland. We did love the onion component but the bun became pure mush quickly. Honestly, our daughter's plain cheeseburger was better :(
We got a couple milkshakes to go, and while we love a thick milkshake, we do also like to have a proper straw for it! So we sat there and had them with spoons. The chocolate one tastes exactly like a Wendy's frosty and the coffee oreo one tasted entirely like oreo (that were pulverized into the shake). Both were pretty good. Bottom line: we're glad we came, but we do not feel a need to be back.
