The 29 Best Diners in America - Eater

"About 30 minutes outside of Oklahoma City, in the tiny town of El Reno, lies one of burger history’s most compelling innovations: the Oklahoma onion burger." - Eater Staff

The Best Onion Burgers in Oklahoma City and El Reno - Eater

"Sid’s Diner is arguably the most famous of the Oklahoma onion burger slingers in El Reno, thanks in part to appearances on shows like Man Vs. Food. As its name might indicate, Sid’s serves a full diner menu, complete with omelets and chicken fried steak for breakfast, but the real draw is the onion burger." - Amy McCarthy

Wow! First time having a famous King Deluxe burger and I can’t wait to come back!! I ordered the King Deluxe with grilled onions and mushrooms and cheese. The burger was juicy and full of flavor. Excellent meat and the onions and mushrooms were perfectly grilled. The fries and burger were screaming hot. Everything is made to order. Excellent service!! Thank you!!

My husband had lived in OK over 20 years and never heard of the famous onion burger and then we read about El Reno being the place to get the best of the best. We drove up from Dallas to try it out. Sid's diner was the 2nd stop in the crawl. The drive up to the place was appealing. The inside was very small. Maybe for 10 people maybe a little bit more. But lots of outside seating. Now for the good stuff. The burger was definitely on the bigger side than our first stop. This one was also more doctored up. Had cheese and pickles, Great flavor and good burger in it's own right. Also a bit greasier than our first stop. Definitely recommend stopping by. And trying out which is your favorite.

TLDR: A living legend that actually lives up to the legend Came through el Reno a week ago, and couldn’t miss the opportunity to hit the famed Sid’s diner. Place was absolutely packed when I got in, but I managed to cop a spot on the counter. I ordered the King burger and a half order of fries. Food came out plenty fast, and was fresh and hot. The fries were pretty average (nothing wrong with that) for fresh cut fries. The burger is a different story. It might be the single best burger I’ve ever had in my life? I certainly can’t think of anything that beats it off the top of my head. This place is certainly worth a visit for that alone.

This was our first visit to Sid’s. Small diner but that adds to its charm. There is a covered outdoor eating area for crowds. We ordered the cheeseburger onion burger and the hickory burger with fried onions. The burgers are large. I could only eat 1/2. We ordered 1/2 tots and 1/2 onion rings. They tots were hot and crispy.. perfect!!! The best part besides the food/decor was the staff. The owner Marty Hall was our cook. Very efficient staff, organized. They worked well together without having to give any direction. Fresh prepared burgers/sides. Nothing sitting under a heated light. We sat at the bar overlooking the grill. Marty was friendly and welcoming. He gave us some history of the restaurant he named after his dad Sid.. enjoyable time, highly recommend and look forward to coming back. We actually tried to stop in once but they were closed. Marty says the last week in July(I believe that week) they close for rest and family time. So make note of that.

I'll start with the good. The place is tiny but very quaint. They kept everything fairly clean and the staff were all very nice and polite. My son enjoyed his burger and tots and my daughter enjoyed her burger as well. My wife had the grilled cheese and liked it as well. Shakes: These were blended PERFECTLY! The thickness of them is spot on. They are thick but drinkable shakes and they will mix flavors together no problem. I had a PB & Banana and my daughter had peanut butter and chocolate. Both were delicious and smooth! Added bonus they bring you the extra in the mixer cup if you are dining in! The drawbacks I found were the fries which were pretty soft and didn't have a great flavor to us. They were kind of like the fries the Garage used to have, only slimmer and not as good. We are not generally fans of this type of fry in the first place though - soft cooked and natural cut. I did actually ask for them to be crispy but it seems the message didn't get across somehow. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich... I do NOT recommend it. It could be just me, but I found it had WAY too much batter, (which was extremely salty by the way,) and the steak was a red-ish color (not rare) and very thin. It looked like it had been forced into a patty with a meat pulverizer and I had a difficult time even seeing it amongst the large amounts of batter. I have been to quite a few places with chicken fried steak so to give an idea of one I like, I like them the way Kendall's does them better.

The burgers are amazing. It’s a small place but they have an enclosed patio with additional seating. Busy at lunch time but that’s to be expected when the food or so good - well worth the wait (which really wasn’t long at all).

Have been told about this place from several coo workers. Drove over an hour with my son and followed Route 66. Excellent food and atmosphere. Waitress was pleasant and very attentive for the packed crowd. Definitely worth stopping! Undercover trucker... keep it Undercover!

We got the king double and tater tots. The tater tots came out well before the burger but can't complain because they were tasty. Golden brown outside and buttery on the inside, as a little ketchup and they are near perfect. The burger has shredded onions that are grilled with the burger. The onions were interesting, the flavor was good but the texture was like sour kraut. The proportions here are definitely healthy we split this one burger and it filled us up.
