The 29 Best Restaurants in Salt Lake City, Utah

"Located right off Main Street, Siegfried’s is a German deli that has been serving lunch and dinner since 1971. It imports specialty ingredients like sauerkraut from Germany along with beer, but meals are extremely affordable, with a hot entree and two sides running you less than $10. Wiener schnitzel is the top seller, alongside bratwurst and a selection of sandwiches, such as a corned beef Reuben. The sausages are made from scratch every day and the side dishes include hot potato salad, spaetzle with gravy, and red cabbage. The space also doubles as a market where you can buy mustard, spices, pickles, cookies, and old-world gift items, such as Heidel advent calendars during the holiday season." - Sarah Entwistle

The BEST German Restaurant in the area. I love coming here every time I'm in SLC, either for the delicious food or the European market right inside (they always have the best stock of European chocolate). My favorite is the Wienerschnitzel either plain or on a sandwich, and the cold potato salad, spaetzle, and red cabbage sides are to die for.

A quick serve restaurant in downtown with the quality of a sit-down restaurant. You order at a counter and the food was served to us very quickly. A separate counter had delicious dessert options. The serving sizes were very good for their sides. I particularly liked the sauerkraut and the healthy vegetables in the shrimp salad. I give a high recommendation for this place.

If you're craving authentic German food in SLC, Siegfried’s Delicatessen is the place to go! This spot is our go-to for bratwurst, goulash, and their delicious German chocolate cake. It’s a casual deli with plenty of authentic dishes to choose from, plus a little market area stocked with German chocolates, sauerkraut, noodles, meats, and other imported goodies. On my last visit, I ordered the homemade sausage plate with two sausages and a side of potatoes, plus an order of the Hungarian spicy goulash. We finished off with a decadent slice of German chocolate cake—absolutely 10/10! I love that they’re generous with portions and keep their prices reasonable. If you’re downtown and looking for a great place to try, I highly recommend stopping by. Friendly staff, amazing food, and best of all—**FREE parking!**

We didn’t know that to expect, we thought it would be more of a deli sandwich place. We were pleasantly surprised. Fast service, friendly and good food. The entree portions were large, my husband and I split the Weinerschnitzel and the 2 sides. It’s a very casual and there are German food products to purchase. The desserts looked so delicious, we were too full to have dessert, but will definitely be back to try their desserts and strudel. We were just in Berlin and we felt like we had just stepped back into Germany.

This is a very unique German restaurant! They have a lot of food options that are authentic German food, as well as options such as a grilled cheese, or chicken leg. We really loved the quality of food and the price was very reasonable. I got the Reuben on Rye and it was so good. It wasn’t overpowering at all, but it had enough flavor that it tasted amazing. Their cucumber salad was amazing with whatever vinegar they put on it and it was really fresh. My husband got a pork steak with potatoes and macaroni salad. His pork steak was a little chewy, but it was really good. The potatoes were flavored well and you can never go wrong with a Mac salad. For dessert, we got their cheese cake and their Napoleon. They both were amazing. They were each price about six dollars which I think is reasonable for the quality. I did not care for the German drink I got because it has a beer taste. I’m not a big fan of the taste of beer. We will definitely return and hope to bring our family so they can try some of the different types of food they offer. The guys behind us in line so they’re bratwurst is the best. There was plenty of seating for lunch, but it may get overcrowded if there’s an event.

Great place for a breakfast, lunch or dinner - pretty much they have it all. From the traditional Black Forest cake to the Ruben sandwich, it’s all tasty. Full of European treasures that are worth trying, especially Milka chocolates.

Siegfried's Delicatessen: A Taste of Germany in Downtown If you're craving authentic German cuisine, Siegfried's Delicatessen is a must-visit. Nestled in the bustling heart of downtown, this gem offers a culinary journey straight to Germany. From the moment you step in, the aroma of hearty dishes welcomes you. Their Reuben sandwich is nothing short of amazing - with perfectly balanced flavors and quality ingredients, it's a standout on the menu. But the delights don't end there. Their selection of sweets and cakes is equally impressive, offering a sweet conclusion to your meal. Siegfried's also stocks a variety of German products, adding an extra layer of authenticity to your dining experience. It's like having a slice of Germany right here in the city. The only downside is parking, which can be a bit tricky given the downtown location. However, they do offer validation for a nearby parking garage, which is a helpful touch. Be prepared for a bustling atmosphere during lunch hours, as it's a popular spot with locals and visitors alike. Overall, Siegfried's Delicatessen is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to indulge in genuine German food. Whether you're there for the savory sandwiches, delectable desserts, or just to pick up some German goodies, you won't be disappointed.

Google
Very unique little deli/grocery store. The chicken leg and thigh were fall off the bone tender and the Reuben was huge. I wish I had a chance to stay a couple days longer so I can try some of their sausages.

Sean Pectol

Google
Heard about this place so I decided to give it a try. Macaroni salad was ok but the Reuben was extremely dry and only had 1 single slice of meat, couldn’t even taste it. The whole sandwich is a thick portion of sauerkraut between two slices of Rye. The person at the counter barely looked up from their phone when I asked if they were open. It seemed like they didn’t want to be there. This was at 7:30, more than an hour before they close. If you want a good Reuben, go to Ramblin roads across the street. At least they give you a good Rueben sandwich along with the potato salad, and decent service. This place is a JOKE considering it’s a German specialty deli and still outclassed by diner Americana.

Yelp
If you're looking for something truly original and authentic, Siegfried's is as good as it gets. This place is a real German deli, and every visit feels like a mini trip to Europe. The schnitzel is absolutely incredible -- so good, in fact, that I found myself coming here once a week while working in Utah. I'd always leave stocked up with at least three meals to hold me over until my next trip in. Beyond the schnitzel, their marzipan everything, goulash, sauerkraut, and beer are pure heaven. Every bite is packed with the kind of rich, homemade flavor that's getting harder to find these days. They even have a mini store inside with all kinds of delicious imports, from chocolates to sausages and beyond. Siegfried's is hands down my favorite place in Salt Lake City. Whether you're craving a hearty meal or just want to browse the goodies, this spot is a must-visit.

Yelp
For my short readers: In downtown salt lake there is this German Deli restaurant with authentic German treats and groceries. But to top it all off it is a great place for lunch with some interesting food options. I would recommend the spicy goulash, reminds me of red curry and rice if that's your thing. For my longer winded readers: This place is interesting, it reminds me of a local bakery in terms of vibe. You can buy fresh packaged meat and other groceries from here if you need a German sourced(yes they have pretzels for sale too). The seating layout wasn't anything special, it honestly was a little cramped but im surprised about how many seats they fit in there. The workers there were nice and very quick to get my order out, which I ordered the Spicy Hungarian Goulash. This was served on spaetzle which in terms of texture felt closer to a ramen noodle more than anything. But I ended up eating it with a spoon and that worked perfectly. It had a small kick of spice and was quite delightful. Plus it was a generous serving size so the prices weren't too overboard($14.08 after tax). All in all I would recommend this place as German food isn't the most common style around here, it was pretty fun to try something new and i probably will end up coming back in the future

Yelp
Little late putting this review together but its such a deserving location that I feel compelled to offer these brief comments. Its a busy little shop, easy to pass by but well worth taking a chance. Authentic german deli with hot meals daily. Typically store front & deli operations. You get your meal on a cafeteria tray in the back of the store, check out at the register, and take advantage of the limited seating if you decide to stay. Had the Schnitzel sandwich and it was perfectly done. The other person I was with had a stew over noddles that may have looked better than mine. Great food, super nice people, and deserving of a more timely review.

Yelp
Anyone that appreciates traditional German fare would absolutely love this deli. Basic hot dishes available to eat at the counter or to go. This place reminds me of the smells of the old New York delis. Hot dishes available to enjoy right there on the spot along with wonderful sandwiches on all types of ryes (other breads available too). Wonderful selection of everything, I could spend hours just going through the shelves. We stopped in here to pick up sandwiches for the road, which were generous and portions and flavorful in taste. A great piece of nostalgia with great taste. A must stop. Great service on top of it all.

Yelp
Yes, you do want to eat and shop here. Food and service and candy selection are exceptional. I am a vegetarian traveling with carnivores, so I didn't expect to find much to eat in a German deli. Happy to say they have plenty of fresh, housemade sides, hot and cold, and a big beautiful bowl of fresh cut fruit. And, of course, the carnivores were happy too - the cabbage rolls were a definite favorite.

Yelp
I don't usually write Yelp reviews because I'm somewhat lazy in this department, but this place deserved it. We were visiting Salt Lake and used Yelp to find a place for lunch and went here. Fantastic! If I lived in Salt Lake, I'd be eating here twice a week. I had the Spicy Hungarian Goulash and my wife had the Reuben and we both loved them. Great to see spaetzyl again - not seen a lot where we live in North Carolina! We highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I spent a week last month attending a work conference at the Salt Lake City Convention Center. Most of the meals were provided there, but on the last day we were on our own. After a quick Yelp search, Siegfried's Delicatessan popped up. I've had a soft spot for German cuisine since I was stationed there nearly 40 years again with the Army. Although known for breakfast & lunch, Siegfried's is open until 6 pm for dinner. There are a good number of tables in the store to dine in. It is also a bodega with German goods for sale. My eyes were bigger than my stomach, and I ended up ordering a bratwurst sausage & warm potato salad, a corned beef sandwich, and goulash soup. Along with $25 worth of Asbach chocolates filled with brandy, the total with tax came out to over $60- ouch! When my order was ready, I was shocked to see the proportions. The goulash soup was entree sized, and the warm potato salad was over 2 scoops. The corned beef sandwich had a generous amount of meat, too. I ate enough of the bratwurst/potato salad & corned beef sando to enjoy, and finished off the hardest thing to carry out, the goulash soup. Everything was delicious! At the end I was full with enough left for the flight the next day. Siegfried's is someplace to keep in mind when my travels bring me back to Salt Lake City! Repeat and recommend!

Yelp
I love pork schnitzel and for your money, you will not find a more inexpensive option with generous portions for almost McDonalds level pricing. I tend to make it to Siegfried's more often than not when I head to Salt Lake and while the service is always uniformly excellent, the quality is a tiny bit hit and miss (but more hit than miss). For example, I went there early in the week and had Schnitzel with brown gravy and a side of Spaetzle and it was a generous portion with great flavor. I went back a few days later and received a super gristly piece of pork with potatoes that weren't very warm and ended up returning it for a new serving (which they apologized for and were happy to do but the second one they made was only slightly better). Thus - on the days where quality control is top of mind, Siegfried's is a joy to visit but I have to be honest and say there will occasionally be "that time" where you may get disappointed or need to have something remade and yet, the good outweighs the bad for now so I'll keep going back.

Yelp
Germany right in downtown. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Ordered the Reuben with corned beef. It was good but needed more meat. Service was fast. Clean place
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
This is more authentically German than most places I've been in Germany! Incredible, seemingly endless selection at the meat counter, and German products as far as the eye can see. Delicious. Amazing. Love.

Robert P.

Yelp
Siegfried's deli probably has the most authentic German food in the region. The bratwurst and black forest cakes are personal favorites.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Unique historical gem. The variety and quality of food here is outstanding. My only wish is that I could try more things in one sitting.
google avatar

Nancy V.

Yelp
I had the schnitzel and Spaetzle with potato salad. It was okay German food, but I've had better in Texas. The service was god awful though. The lady (I assume the owner) asked the couple ahead of me if they wanted a receipt, but didn't ask me. I actually needed the receipt to expense my meal since I was on a work trip. So when I asked for my receipt, she acted like it was the most inconvenient request by rolling her eyes and begrudgingly pushed a few buttons on the POS to print the receipt and told me to grab the receipt off the receipt printer myself. I would definitely not go back because the food wasn't even that great. Also, the presentation of the food was disgusting. See picture for yourself.

Yelp
I was visiting salt lake for a few days and I happened to come across this place. Oh my god. Best sandwich I've ever had. And so for the last few days that's all I've eaten. 10/10
google avatar

Farren M.

Yelp
I've been here a few times throughout the last couple years when I started coming here the desserts were always fresh and so good. I want to say this last year I ordered my same desserts and they taste stale or like they've been in the cabinet for a while. it was a little disappointed, they give you a lot of food nothing extraordinary
google avatar

Jaclyn L.

Yelp
My husband got stressed because he didn't feel like he had time to read the menu before they wanted him to order hahaha but I loved it. The spaetzle is delicious. My schnitzel was a little too crispy but still yummy. I will come back next time I have a German craving. Halfway through our meal, there was a loud noise that lasted for a long time. No idea what it was but it was very annoying
google avatar

Brian E.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick bite and an escape from the conference center. Stopped by for lunch hoping to get some schnitzel and spatzele. Unfortunately they were out of schnitzel so I opted for the pork steak instead. It was fantastic, nice and tender with great flavor. The noodles were terrific as well. The sausage was great as well. Really enjoyed every bite. Next time I'm in SLC, I'll definitely stop by for lunch again.
google avatar

Jordana G.

Yelp
Solid German deli. Love the variety of soups, variety of breads (even pumpernickel) and classic deli meats (yay liverwurst) and German entrees. Don't miss the great sides like porky sauerkraut and spaetzle and hot potato salad. Nice people and clean tables.

Yelp
Siegfried's Delicatessen is a cafeteria-style German restaurant in downtown SLC. They also have imported groceries, breads, meats, and candies. The restaurant is casual but often frequented by the business crown during weekday lunches because of its location. They have indoor and outdoor seating (during the summer months). Be aware there's more open indoor seating behind the imported food shelves in a back room. Since it's not visible from the main dining area most people don't know about it and you can find it empty even on a moderately busy day. Be aware the restaurant doesn't take reservations. This venue is better suited to smaller groups. They have a number of sides for the cafeteria/deli-style meals. My favorites include rot kohl (red cabbage); sauerkraut; and fried potatoes. Siegfried's is a classic for German cuisine. My family is German and we make it a point to go each time we visit SLC. It's casual, quick, and inexpensive. Four entrees (that came with two sides apiece) were $45 overall. Go check it out!

Max C.

Yelp
Great food, quick service, large portions for the price. I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a single issue with Siegfried's. There's another German spot on the other side of town--not gonna name any names, but it looks like a cabin--and Siegfried's absolutely dumps on them across the board. The shop's in a fun location, too. Nothing but good things to say here

Tracy M.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! This place is amazing!! We've been twice now in our trip to SLC, everything is delicious! Need to try this 100%
google avatar

Sean K.

Yelp
I wanted a quick bite to eat after work and decided to stop in. This place is a gem of German foods and the price is ridiculously cheap. I grabbed a Rueben that was near perfect and so tasty. Also grabbed a brat & chop combo so I had something for breakfast. Add it two sides of huge portions and I walked out full and happy for about $21.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
You can walk by this place and never know it. The food there is amazing. The atmosphere is a bodegas style restaurant grocery store. The cook was attentive and helpful and the lady behind the register was very nice.
google avatar

Tyler L.

Yelp
Amazing food, great Goulash. Very quick and friendly staff. Would return Great
google avatar

Summer N.

Yelp
Food was amazing here! You've got to act fast and know what you want when you get to the counter though so make sure you take a look at the menu before
google avatar

Corey R.

Yelp
Reuben was decent place looked cool will have to come back and try more. Not my favorite Reuben but nice and fast service and not too expensive.

Vincie S.

Yelp
Cabbage rolls on Friday/Saturday are amazing! Also love the Mac salad (not sweet) and the red cabbage.
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
An absolutely delightful old school delicatessen! Good friend took me to lunch and they were absolutely hopping. Despite the crowds, the lines moved quickly. I couldn't resist the schnitzel and some German potato salad. Old SCHOOL! They dropped the schnitzel in the fryer when I ordered it. Crispy, tender, delicious! Squeeze of lemon on most of it, couple of bites with some side mustard. certainly 5/5. German potato salad. I admit my mom makes and serves hers warm which is what i'm used to. This was cold straight out of the deli case. It's clearly homemade and very tasty. 4/5. Service was fantastic, the racks of the German grocery items for sale was awesome. Bought some chocolate ginger snaps for dessert on the way out. Décor reminded me of the old school delis the are mostly gone. I find it nostalgic, other might find it old or plain. i think frills and functions are restaurant specific and the vibe here is appropriate. Put the love in the FOOD! will put it in the rotation for sure!

Johnathan C.

Yelp
I had the turkey Ruben one day and the regular Ruben another. Marble rye was fantastic and meats were delicious. Atmosphere was welcoming and felt like I could walk into this place every day. Wish I had a delicatessen like this back home.
google avatar

Dennis S.

Yelp
So I'm here in SLC, Utah hungry and looking for food and I see a delicatessen. So this is my first time having German food and it's delicious! I got this special and opted for a bunch of vegi's sausage was so good I wish they gave me 3. Then I start to look at what everyone else is eating and looks even better. I'm here for couple more days I'm gonna try more. If in SLC check this place out ... u might like !!! I did!! *update* I was hungry again for lunch and in my head I really have to try the rest of the knackwurst and weisswurst. Also, I used to think that sauerkraut just looked and smells disgusting... but holy shite along with the wurst and some stoneground and hot mustard it's the shite!!! I posted a pic but stop looking at the damn pic ... pictures have no flavor... get yo AZZ there!!!
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
Wonderful German Deli in Salt Lake. Love coming here for lunch and enjoying a beer with my meal. Their Reuben sandwich is my absolute favorite. Great prices!
google avatar

Tom B.

Yelp
Do you ever get the craving for sauerkraut? I know, you either love it or hate it! But if you try the sauerkraut at Siegfried's delicatessen, you'll probably love it. You'll judge all others by Siegfried's so you can tell people where to find the good stuff. Had lunch with two friends and we all had the sauerkraut, paired with spatzle (look it up) and wienerschnitzel and we transported ourselves to Germany. Such fun on a hot Summer day. Siegfried's is simple, bright and enjoyable. Order at the counter, pay and seat yourself. Then enjoy. Lots on the menu and lots of other German goodies to take home. Bread, chocolate, marzipan. Can you spell Siegfrieds???
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Amazing authentic German food. I think at this point in time I've had everything on the menu. It's just all great! The is also a proper deli and a good assortment of European foods and desert
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
As always, destination place. Great German food, especially on the way up to Octoberfest. Don't forget the draft beer!
google avatar

Karena Z.

Yelp
Siegfried's is good, but not "knock my socks off" great. It's a deli/grocery store that has a great bustling ambiance to it, but for the style of food that is served, it was a bit overpriced. The schnitzel comes out piping hot and fresh, but the sides are under a heat lamp and are just lukewarm. For $15+ I would expect more from a cafeteria style service. I noticed the schnitzel also ranges in size and we unfortunately got a small couple of schnitzels. It's hard to find seating for a large group and it definitely gets busy during lunch hours. Overall I would come back, but I'm not going to be craving it.

Melody C.

Yelp
The schnitzel was sooooo good. It was very authentic and cooked to perfection. The service was fast and the people were very friendly. Definitely will go again.
google avatar

Keith W.

Yelp
Nice authentic German food after so long was a nice surprise. Place was a bit packed due to popularity I guess, but that just speaks well of them. Prices are extremely affordable and portion are sizeable, about the only thing I would have a small complaint about was that some of the spaetzle were a bit too dry. I tried the stuffed cabbage as well but kinda ate it all before deciding to do this review, but it was good if your curious.

Jacquelyn T.

Yelp
Unfortunately, in agreement with many other reviews, this place is not a gem or a return. All the for sale items can be find at Pirate Os or Trader Joes. The restaurant has been closed before closing time twice now in just the last month, even after we confirmed times when we were 2 blocks away. Both times, the woman at the cashier was unfriendly and even down right rude as if we might try and eat at a restaurant. Acted very inconvenienced, happier to not have our patronage, AND we couldn't get food. I have eaten there in the past, and the food was passable, but for food that isn't amazing, poor hospitality, and unknown hours its not an option any more. For pretzels...The Pretzel Connection. For specialized candy, Pirate Os, spatzle, weinersnitzel you may have to make yourself, and brats at Harmons.
google avatar

Alice G.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious and authentic German food! What a gem of a place! The schnitzel was absolutely fantastic! Perfect amount of breading, crispy but not greasy. The spatzle was also amazing, and so was the cabbage. The store also sells great German products. And I highly recommend you trying some of the real German cookies they have. Trust me, as someone who has lived in Germany, real German cookies are very different than those we buy at large grocery stores in the US. Highly, highly recommend this place and will go back if I am ever in town again!
google avatar

Christopher E.

Yelp
Pure German food bliss... I wish this place was closer because I would eat at it almost every day. Everything is super authentic down to the heavy German accents by some of the employees behind the counter. The apple streusel was delicious as well as their sausages and pork snitzel.
google avatar

Emily N.

Yelp
Best German deli in SLC. Possibly the only German deli in SLC? Either way, a 5 star experience. Between eating in plus DoorDash I've probably eaten here about 15 times and there is nothing I wouldn't recommend. Some of my standout favorites are the sides. I especially enjoy the macaroni salad and potato salad (hot and cold are both different but good). Sandwiches are good, cake is really good (love the carrot cake). The place has a chill atmosphere and there is a little grocery store as well. Check out the chocolate section in particular if you like your candy bars a little less sweet (but still not bitter).
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
All the food here was amazing. The service was perfect and the ambience was wonderful. I will definitely be coming back here again thank you Siegfried's.
google avatar

Carlton C.

Yelp
Siegfrieds does one thing and they do it well...German food! The line moves fast so don't be scared away because of it. They have a very efficient cafeteria/counter system where customers can see their food and point it out while ordering. The food is very reasonably priced and the portions are large. Everything taste homemade and is very good. Love the gravy! Look forward to another visit one day soon.
google avatar

Katy B.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town, and finding this was a delight! More seating around the corner from the main room so don't be deterred by the space. Food was fantastic and loved shopping in the market aisles for treats to bring home.
google avatar

Misty A.

Yelp
Delicious! There's a language thing so we didn't quite understand how to order but it was thirty minutes before they close and they let us eat inside so all was well. The lady was so kind she went above and beyond when we tried to buy lemons. The food - goulash and schnitzel - was top notch yumminess. Plus there are so many authentic goods to buy, it is worth checking out. Get the carrot cake - you won't regret it!
google avatar

Vickie J.

Yelp
Worth the 45 minute drive to get pork schnitzel with sauerkraut and hot fried potatoes. Oh and the eclairs are a must. Cold and delicious goodness. Only wish it would've tasted a little fresher. Kind of tasted like yesterday's eclair but it was still yummy goodness. The employees are so kind and patient. I love the store and can't leave without a jar or two of German pickles. The place is organized, well stocked and clean. I love the food here. My biggest decision is what sides to get. I usually end up taking extra sides home. Delicious food, wonderful restaurant and very well trained, courteous employees.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Still giving this place 3 stars as the customer service is pretty sub par and the food still mediocre. Came back and this time ordered a Reuben sandwich. The sand which itself was falling apart and pretty soggy. Other than that, I was able to find my Vitalis cereal which is hard to find in general! Great job for having this in stock
google avatar

Holly A.

Yelp
After a long day at comic con we wandered over to Siegfried's for a little German food. This time I did not get my usual Weinerscnitzel and spaetzel I opted for a Turkey Rueben with a side of fried potatoes. They use only the highest quality meats and cheeses and the bread was freshly toasted and topped with sauerkraut. It really hit the spot but I might revert to my above mentions next time. Just because a sandwich is a sandwich. They also have a beautiful bakery case and pantry items for sale. This place is allot of fun, filled with flavor.
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Such a unique place in Salt Lake City. It's just like a place you'd find in Germany. The food is just like the food I've had in Germany. Very fun place to check out.
