"This charming cafe started out as an adjunct of Sienna, the retail outlet of a Shantiniketan-based ceramics workshop run by a mother-daughter duo. But over time, the food side of the business has established its own identity with a crisp, straightforward menu focused on global comfort food: robust burgers, perfectly cooked omelets, toasts with assorted toppings, and creamy risottos made with local varieties of rice. Chef Auroni Mookerjee champions all things local and sustainable. His more adventurous weekend menus use only fresh, seasonal produce that can be sourced that day — foraged greens, wild mushrooms, duck eggs, varieties of small fish that usually don’t make it to restaurant tables — in a style Mookerjee calls bazaar-to-table." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

Delicious food and not too expensive. 3 mains + 2 drinks + desert for under 50$ US. Good variety of options. The margarita was amazing. Service is quick and very good. Gift store was nice too. Will recommend to friends in Kolkata

Disappointing lunch experience. The price and portion is comparable to any Michelin star but the taste was so so. The starters and desserts were just okay. The mains were better especially the bhetki ala kiev and mutton stuffed omelette. Desserts were rather disappointing. May not visit again.

Sienna recently reopened its doors after a four month remodel, and I’m pleased to say the space still captures the rustic-chic vibe it was once known for, now with a refreshed aesthetic. The decor evokes the same charm I’ve seen in cafes in Singapore, blending simplicity and elegance seamlessly. The layout now includes a café on the ground floor and a restaurant upstairs, though both areas have limited seating, so expect wait times, especially on weekends. The menu is intentionally curated and compact, a choice I appreciate for its focus on quality and flavor. It’s a great balance, though rotating it with the seasons could help keep customers coming back for new experiences. The handicrafts for sale are high-quality and reasonably priced, while the clothing selection, though a bit on the expensive side, is undeniably well-made. Overall, Sienna is a great spot for a memorable lifestyle store and café experience, offering a delightful atmosphere and carefully selected items !

Went there with high expectations. Ended up being highly dissatisfied. The food was bland and the taste was absolutely basic. Firstly the whole fish. A deboned small bhetki which is fried in a batter and is absolutely tasteless without the sauce it comes with. The whole fried fish ( gota mach bhaja ) had no taste of its own and even with the sauce tasted very bad. The golda chingri with ghilu hollandaise was not even golda chingri. The dish was very salty and had 1.5 pcs of small prawns which was cut from the middle. Lastly the mangsho tonkatsu was a basic mutton stew with some noodles and micro pieces of mangsho. The taste was replicating any mutton stew you get in any calcutta cabin but not as good. Overall for the prices and the taste and the portion size it was an experience I would recommend no one to indulge in. The service was okay. The waiter asked me about the food and on my rather sour feedback he gave me a look of haughty derision. Didn’t even ask what was lacking. A must avoid if you ask me.

I flew in from Delhi with a visit to the "revamped Sienna" high up on my to-do list. As an ardent fan of the older version, I was eager to see how the place had evolved. While my previous experiences were better, the new version did not disappoint. I visited on the evening of January 1st, so naturally, there was a 30-minute wait for a table. Once seated, we were looked after by a delightful and attentive server. He consistently checked in on us, ensuring everything was smooth, and thoughtfully recommended some bestsellers from the "new" menu. The revamped menu is a bold shift from its predecessor, and the theme seemed more like "Bengal Meets the World." It offered a fusion of traditional Bengali dishes influenced by global culinary practices. The thought and creativity behind each dish was apparent—carefully crafted by the chefs. I am certain they must've spent a lot of conceptualising these new dishes. I tried the prawns with hollandaise sauce and the fish oil dolma, and both were pretty stellar. The plating was impeccable, akin to what you’d expect at a 5-star establishment. The flavors struck a perfect balance—evoking the warmth of homely Bengali food while also aligning with modern cosmopolitan tastes. My only complaint would be with the portion sizes: they were rather small for the high price point. However, I understand that "art & creativity" comes at a premium cost. We ended the meal with a modern version of doodh pooli drizzled with pandan oil—perfectly sweetened and delightfully soft. My hunch: the dishes may not appeal to everyone, as they seem tailored more for a Gen Z audience who might have a taste for fusion cuisine. However, I encourage everyone to try the food at least once. The revamped interiors exude a rustic, old charm, though I personally preferred the interiors of the previous Sienna. The warm service, unique dishes, and overall ambience made for a memorable experience, even if the prices leaned on a slightly higher side. Also: the current font size on the menu is a bit too small & the font style isn't the most readable. Perhaps that can be improved? The store on the ground floor is worth a visit as well, offering a range of food and clothing items. I picked up some date palm jaggery, which was of excellent quality. If you’re in the area, I can recommend dropping by. I hope that the diligent creators working hard at Sienna read my review and suggestions :)

First of all I have to say that I hate to give bad reviews. We were in the area of Hindustan Park and were starving. So we decided to have dinner in the Sienna restaurant. The restaurant is nice, clean and also attached to a shop with different clothes and other things. As I wrote we were hungry. So we picked the card and decided to go to the restaurant instead of the bar area. The menu was nice and had 3 options. Small plate and big plate and plate to share. Since we were starving we picked the big plate. After a little time the food came. I had the gnocchi and I thought they gave me the wrong food. I asked the weighter and told him that I ordered the big plate and if they maybe gave me a small portion. They told me that this is the big plate and I really had to laugh. In the whole plate there were 12 very little gnocchi. It was tasty, and also the food from my wife was very tasty and of good quality. But the portion was so small. And for this price it was too expensive. 5 stars we give to the service and also to the ambience. But sadly: We came hungry and we left hungry.

Visited the cafe long back and recently visited the new restaurant. The theme is Bengal reinvented or that's how I would call it. Loved the food that felt like a warm hug served in a bowl. Yes the quantity is less and the prices are high but I didn't feel the pinch as I was already in another world while savoring the food. The mocktails could be worked upon but otherwise a good 5 ⭐ Must visit the place. There's a store as well for buying handmade items like jewellery, clothes, decor and now food stuff too like nolen gur and masalas. Do visit sienna if you're feeling low or happy. No matter your mood the food lifts you up a notch higher. Ordered food- Mochar salad, sweet aloo posto, saager risotto, dark chocolate Flan and two drinks ( gondhoraj and kokum).

I’m so happy someone is trying something new in Kolkata. Was here for the 2nd time last night, great place to bring a date or to do dinner with friends in an intimate setting. The food is delicious, atmosphere really well done and the service is ok. My only problem here is that they don’t take reservations on the weekends. Understandable for Kolkata because nobody here respects other people’s time or their commitments but apart from this minor gripe, I love this little place.
