Sieve Cafe - Review - Ridgewood - New York - The Infatuation

"Lower Manhattan isn’t the only place to get afancy matcha. There’s also Sieve Cafe in Ridgewood, and you don’t even have to line up for it. The relatively mellow matcha shop, which briefly went viral, serves matcha and hojicha lattes, strawberry matcha tonics, and, our favorite drink on the menu, the banana cream matcha latte. It’s topped with a housemade banana cream, made with banana and condensed milk, and it tastes like the real thing—more banana bread than banana Laffy Taffy. The very beige, very plain interior isn't the optimal place for an extended hang, but if you live in the area and you’re looking for matcha that’s not just a green-tinged cup of milk, Sieve is the spot." - Willa Moore

Wow, I’m very impressed by the quality and taste. If you’re going to spend on matcha at the neighborhood’s going rate of $7-8 for a drink, this is a place that will be worth your money! I got the strawberry matcha tonic and it’s an addictive bright and spicy flavor. After buying far too many matchas that just taste like oat milk with food coloring, this is a redemption. I will 100% be back. Also shout out to the lady behind the counter who whisked the matcha for a whole two minutes! I am feeling the love.

Came here a Saturday morning and there was no line! I wanted to love this place but i felt like the matcha was just okay. Got the banana foam matcha and the foam was delicious but the matcha itself was a bit bitter. Also got the strawberry matcha and again, the puree tasted great but not the matcha alone. Had to really mix it to mask the bitterness. The pastries were great though (got the almond croissant and the savory biscuit). Staff was great though.

New gem in the neighborhood! Loved all the drinks and the matcha’s had the perfect amount of earthiness. Coffee was delicious as well! Excited to come back again to try their other menu options, like the banana cream or strawberry 🙂‍↕️ Also hospitality and service was 💯💯 Owners were so kind and they truly put a lot of care into what they are making and doing :-) Recommend the Matcha Coconut if you need a lil hydration boost + something clean 🌟

Exceeded my matcha expectations! As a frequent matcha drinker, I can confidently say this spot offers top-tier quality at a great price. Easily one of my top 2 cafes in NYC!

Let me just say this….having lived in Japan and even being a Matcha purist, I know what authentic, high-quality matcha should taste like. Sieve not only meets that gold standard but goes beyond it with creativity. They’ve introduced innovative flavors: banana cream, strawberry matcha, coconut, and more, that feel natural and organic rather than overly sweet. The matcha itself stays perfectly balanced, letting the flavors complement rather than overpower. The staff were warm and welcoming, and service was quick. It’s rare to find a spot that feels both true to the roots of Japanese matcha while also pushing the boundaries in a way that works. I’m genuinely thrilled to have a best-in-class matcha cafe right here in Queens. I’ll definitely be back frequently. Thank you for bringing a real taste of Japan to the neighborhood - what a delight!

Love!!!! I have been a couple of times now and it’s been a wonderful experience every time. Iced strawberry matcha latte is amazing. The strawberry puree is so good I get no added sugar. The staff is WONDERFUL and my first visit was to work remotely. Wifi was great, ambience was perfect. I’m really excited to eventually try all their other drinks!

Randomly found this in the area after a morning @ Juniper park and it turned out to be a great find! I’ve been making it a weekend tradition to try a new matcha place every Sunday and I wished I lived in the area just to go back everyday😭 service was fast and accommodating & I was giving good recommendations by the cashier. The matcha was the perfect amount of a foamy, thick, creamy consistency during my first try with coconut water. Very refreshing I must say and with a touch of simple syrup it was a game changer! I noticed depending on the flavors they add different grades of matcha which is a great attention to detail! Their matcha loaf was also soooo good! Thank you for a great addition to my Sunday💚 #certifiedmatchalover

Yelp
I visited here two weeks ago and ordered the double matcha, pandan latte and the uji matcha for myself and my siblings to try and they were all pretty yummy. I watched them make the matcha, so you know this place is legit! And for sure I'll be making for frequent visit. The team that were there in the morning was really nice and patient while I looked at the menu. There are a couple of tables for those who want to work and enjoy their matcha there. I may come back and work there when I visit again, which is pretty soon!

Yelp
I tried sips of my friends' drinks, and they got 50% sweetness and all iced, but this might be the rare place where 100% sweetness wouldn't be too sweet. - The double matcha has a matcha cold foam on top. My wife got this with almond milk which I'm not a big fan of, but it's so packed with matcha flavor. My least favorite of the 3 I tried. - The strawberry matcha was very good, with plenty of puree. Since the puree is sweet, you could get this potentially with 50% sweetness but I'd try it 100% next time. - Dirty hojicha latte: I don't like coffee and I don't like hojicha lattes but somehow this might be favorite. It has a deep hojicha flavor which I think mixes badly in most latte, but somehow this works. This is my first dirty hojicha latte, so perhaps that's what makes it work? They have a rewards program as well.

Yelp
This spot just opened this Monday and I was craving matcha, so I thought I'd check it out as a Friday treat to myself! The space is very utilitarian and clean with white decor. They had a list of matchas and coffee and a small pastry case of mochi donuts. I was curious about the double matcha for $7.25 but ended up going with the regular iced uji matcha latte for $6.50 for the 16 oz. size. I found the 100% sugar level a perfect amount of sweetness for me and it does have a good matcha flavor. It didn't blow me away, though, and I do think it's overpriced, especially for the neighborhood. Service was fine but not particularly friendly or excited. Glad to have tried it though!

Yelp
Great new matcha spot in Ridgewood just dropped! -Plenty of seating and friendly service. -Their unique specialty drinks are made with quality ingredients! -I love their matcha and coffee from what I've had so I'm so excited to go back and try everything on the menu! -Btw they use Proper Syrups so you already know each drink is crafted *They just soft opened so I look forward to what's in store for this new local gem in the long term! (~~heart eyes emoji~~)

Yelp
Sieve is a matcha-exclusive cafe in Ridgewood that is really great- you can tell that the matcha is premium quality. Yes it is not cheap but ultimately you're paying for quality that's justified. Also, you can see the staff taking their time with preparing the perfect cup as well. All in all, I loved the place.
