The Silhouette Lounge is an Allston dive bar classic, where cheap pitchers, free popcorn, and games like darts and pool create a gritty, welcoming vibe.
"There are few Boston-area dive bars more beloved than the Silhouette Lounge. Pitchers are cheap, drinks are cheap (and massive, and strong), there’s free popcorn, there’s a pool table, there are many dart boards and, very importantly, there are free hot dogs for life for anyone who devotes a tattoo to the bar." - Nathan Tavares, Tanya Edwards
"Allston is full of bars, but none of them match the Silhouette. Upon entering, Irene will ask if you want any dinner (popcorn). You do. You also want cheap pitchers of PBR, and you want to play some early ’90s rap on the jukebox. Shoot some pool, too. But watch out for the local sharks — they take themselves a little too seriously." - Lala Thaddeus, Terrence Doyle
"Ah, the Silhouette Lounge. What is there to say about the Sil that hasn’t been said already? Pitchers are cheap, drinks are cheap (and massive, and strong), there’s free popcorn, there’s a pool table, there are many dart boards, and there are free hot dogs for life for anyone who devotes a tattoo to the bar." - Terrence Doyle, Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Erika Adams
"From 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Monday, October 31, Allston dive bar Silhouette Lounge’s free Halloween party features a $50 gift card for best costume and a make-your-own taco bar from Amelia’s Taqueria, whose neighboring store was gutted by a fire last month. For $10, you can enter the Sil’s dart room for live music from the likes of Tyler & The Names and Meteor Police. And don’t forget: If you show up rocking a Silhouette Lounge-themed tattoo, you could also score free hot dogs for life." - Adam H. Callaghan
"At some point, a friend from another school is going to visit you and want to see some “real Boston drinking spots in Southie.” After you break the news that Southie is now filled with dog-groomers and pretty much impossible to get to anyway, you can take them to the Sil. This is an old school dive with cheap beer, Buck Hunter, and an interior that hasn’t been touched since 1972. There’s often a line of students out the door on Friday and Saturday night, so it’s not like it’s completely a townie watering hole, but it’s close enough to get the feeling." - dan secatore
