I really loved the food and came here with my friend and her family, for all 5 of us it came up to about $79 I think but it was really good and I couldn’t even finish a bowl since there was a lot of food. It was really delicious and the flavoring was on point. I enjoyed the wall art and the cozy atmosphere they had there it all seemed like a nice place to eat at. I will definitely be visiting this place after school cause it’s a nice hang out spot to eat at.

The pork and pepper with rice is so good (we got medium and it was really spicy). The beef and pepper is great too but I'd get it as a dry noodle instead of soup next time.

Nice noodles. I got the pork and pickled mustard greens on dry mix noodles and medium spicy. I have to say medium spicy/ 中辣 was not spicy at all. Disappointing. Also the noodles seemed to be all broken up/chopped up. Looking around at other diners it seemed I was the only one with the problem. Perhaps mine were overcooked or something? Made it very difficult to eat with chopsticks. The pork/shucai was pretty tasty though. Just wish had been a bit spicier. Nice clean spot, lots of space. I’d give it another chance I think.

I liked how it had a hint of sweetness and tartness to it but my friend did not like it. last but not least, the cold sweet flower jelly was so good omg, i highly recommend u get that. it had a hint of sweetness, and the soft jelly like texture made it so fun to eat. perfect way to end the meal!

We were looking for the “regular Chinese food” and we found this place. If you like spicy then this is a good place for you! The restaurant has a vibe of fast food/take out but is very clean and has a cool design. My wife ordered the noodle chicken soup-mild; I ordered the pork and chicken over rice. Both dishes were very flavorful and with a good spicy kick. Was very enjoyable and a good bow size. P.S. The restroom was clean.

06/23, 07/25, /22 Very very authentic rice noodles — mb the most authentic Chinese food I’ve had in ny so far. No matter what topping u get, they all has this special taste that makes u know it’s just fresh out stir-fried from the wok. Strongly recommend the pig trotter one— it’s so hard to get 猪蹄 here in the states ;/// the tofu and pg ears we got are 👍too!

Great spot in a very convenient location! Noodle texture was a little too bouncy for my taste, and the spice was decent (would love more flavor though). The service and ambiance was great. Awesome find near Union Square!

I'm so happy to have found authentic Hunan food in Union square! Cute restaurant, efficient services, delicious food at great prices. You can choose whether you want noodles with or without soup or rice with your entree. We tried the beef stew, braised pork ribs with brown sauce and stir fried chicken with chili paste. We also had sides of mapo tofu, string beans and cucumber salad. Can't wait to go back to try their dumplings!

I do take out for lunch. Very quick service. Usually within 5-10mins I'll get my food. I like it comes with green vegetables. It's a balanced meal for me.

Delicious noodle spot right by Union square! Was craving some beef noodle soup and got their Stewed Beef Noodle Soup to-go and it perfectly hit the spot. Food came out quickly (under 5 min). I like how they separated the soup from the noodles for takeout orders to prevent the noodles getting soggy- a nice touch. The actual food was delicious- not too salty and the beef is perfectly(!) cooked with lots of rice noodles. Would've liked more bok choy though/slightly larger portion especially given the soup being on the pricier side (~$17) for casual Chinese takeout.

The food came out pretty fast. Ordered the spicy squid over dry noodles. You can pick your spice level and noodle or rice. I don't like peppers , so I tried to get it without, but they were not flexible about it.

Silky Kitchen is a great spot for comfort food noodles (dry or with soup and your choice of spice level) and a quick meal. I ordered the beef tripe salad and the braised pork noodles (which comes with pork belly, peppers, bok choy, and celery) at the medium spice level. The beef tripe was average, but the braised pork in my noodles was tasty and you get several large chunks of pork belly. The medium spice level actually wasn't too spicy, so I added chili oil to my noodles. They were very fast and we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes after ordering before our noodles were ready.

Really good food. I the beef and mapu tofu are for sure a repeat order. The dumplings were also way better than I expected.

Great place for a quick lunch. Chinese food a la chipotle style where you can choose your base, meat, and sauce. There are many non-spicy options but their mild is not too spicy.

Not a bad option for fast casual Chinese that is quick and easy in a clean and modern setting. I tried the pork and peppers with the dry noodles option, and the serving was a good portion. I really loved the springiness of the rice noodle. The dish is a bit one note in flavor. Ample protein and veggies (diced celery bits included in there) however. Medium spicy was plenty spice for me but I added in some more chili oil. Minus a star for the single use plastics. So many of these fast casual places are using single serving plastics (the non recyclable black plastic bowls that have toxic heavy metals in them and end up being landfilled) just so that we can fill our stomachs with cheap-ish (well- not really cheap) quick food. I likely wouldn't return for this reason alone. Ok - stepping off soapbox now.

A decent spot for some quick made-to-order noodles to go or in-store with a big group (there's plenty of seating inside). The service is friendly and very fast. I've had Silky Kitchen twice, and it's good but my most recent trip / dish wasn't super impressive. I had the beef stew with soup. The rice noodles are soft and bouncy, but I haven't been impressed by its ability to pick up flavors in the soup, so it tastes a bit bland by itself. The beef and bokchoy were both cooked well, but I thought there wasn't any deep flavors overall. I also thought the portion sizes were a bit small and relatively pricey in that regard. I think there are many other places for me to try in Chinatown before coming back.

Went in on a Sunday at 6pm and it was pretty empty. The food came out pretty fast and quick. This place is a self order and service spot. I got chicken& chilis with mild spice over noodles and it was still pretty spicy. The pieces of chicken tasted really good. I would enjoy it more if it's less spicy. The price was also not bad. This place is definitely one of those quick and easy lunch spot. Overall, this place is great for a easy and quick lunch.

Really decent size dishes - the mapo tofu was only $12 for a big ass portion and I added a side of noodles for $3 not knowing it already came with a side of rice. The spice of the tofu was okay, not too spicy and a heavy bean flavor. The texture of the noodles was maybe over cooked - the rice was much better!

My family and I were checking out the Union Square Christmas Market and wanted some Chinese food & vegetables, so we stopped by Silky Kitchen. The interior is relatively spacious and very clean, and the place has a fast-casual vibe. There are several Hunanese noodle options that you can customize (e.g. broth or dry noodles, spice level, etc.), as well as some side dishes. We ordered the wood-ear mushrooms, the cucumber salad, and a stewed beef noodle soup, medium spicy. The portion is pretty large for the price (we paid ~$30 total), and the food is pretty good, though the noodles were a little too oily for my taste. Overall: a solid option for Chinese noodles if you're in the area and looking for something quick and relatively inexpensive!

Got a veggie hot and sour noodle soup and was super full after. For only $14-15 it's a great spot for a quick and flavorful bite! Place is super casual with about 5 tables. Order on a monitor and less than 10 min later your order is ready to be picked up from the window!

I am oddly surprised why this isn't on any top rated lists? I was walking to another soupy place when this place caught my eye and I'm happy it did. It was cozy and comfortable for a single person to dine at (especially with the mural and self serve kiosk). Quick and simple to order. I got the hot and sour veg noodle soup with a coddled egg. It was mostly noodle and veg and I LOVED IT! Everything tasted fresh and was a huge portion. Word of caution--spicy is very spicy. TLDR; perfect introvert spot if you want a soup heavy on noodle and toppings.

You can order from the counter or order on a screen machine if you don't want to interact with anyone. They have quite a variety of options from appetizers to dumplings to rice and noodles. We got the Chairman Mao's braised pork with rice and there was a lot of meat. The sauce was yummy. The hot and sour fish noodles however were definitely the star. There were pickled vegetables that gave the broth a nice tangy flavor and the white fish was very good and meaty. The store is nice and clean.

Was just walking by Silky Kitchen, looked up their reviews and I was not disappointed! I had the pork + pepper base with soup noodles + extra bok choy, mild spicy. Very flavorful, hot (both temperature and perfectly mild spiced as I requested). Kind staff and yummy food!!

This place has the best noodle soup in town and affordable too! Never disappoints, but would recommend dining in while the food is hot and fresh. No table service, so great for quick eats. It's a casual setting

I found this place for lunch by browsing Yelp. I chose the pork bowl as recommended by the cashier, and I chose the mild spice. It was just right in terms of heat. Very copious portion.

Very authentic hunan food and they do not come to play with the spice. I would consider myself good at eating spicy food from various Asian cuisines but whew the medium spice level was actually very spicy. I think what makes this place unique is that it's slightly-"build your own" in the sense that you can choose spice level and whether you want rice or noodles with whichever traditional hunan dish you select. We got the Hunan Fried Tofu as an appetizer which was by far my favorite bc it took me right back to China. For mains we got Hot & Sour Chicken Gizzard with noodles and Pork Liver With Pepper with rice - I am a noodle person so I liked the noodle dish more but the noodle type they give is on the thinner side, not chewy so it wasn't amazing to me but the chicken gizzard itself was great (just warning that there are a ton of peppers in every dish!). Pork liver with pepper was also very authentic. FYI they do not provide free tap water unless you bring your own bottle!

Super authentic hunan style rice noodles. Love that the Hunan spice level is actually really spicy and has a good kick. Portions are big and they don't accept tip even for dine in! Great value and delicious food - will be back soon!

I tried this place for lunch yesterday and was sooo happy that I did! I got the Hunan Style Sauteed Beef as a Noodle Soup. They actually come with the broth on the side which was really light (almost tasted like sullantang) and soothing. I ended up having the soup separate on the side and liked it more. The noodles were almost like a saute. I got the 2nd spiciest option which had a kick and the flavor was soo yummy. The beef was also super juicy and tender. Overall, I was super impressed and will definitely try some of their other dishes.

One of my favorite places in East Village for a casual dine in meal or take out!!! The interior is very clean and service is fast and friendly. If you get take-out, all the food is packaged well (separates noodles from the broth so it doesn't get soggy). I absolutely love the pork & pickled mustard green noodles with soup. I get medium spicy and it's the perfect amount of heat and flavor. Also really like the stir fried chicken w/ chili paste noodles. If you get a fried egg and pickled vegetables on top... chefs kiss. So glad I discovered this place and can't wait to try out more dishes from the menu!

Silky Kitchen offers the real deal in authentic Hunanese cuisine. As soon as I walked in and saw Chairman Mao's Favorite Braised Pork a true signature dish, on the menu, I knew this place was legit. A onetime resident of Hunan, my husband claims that the food at Silky Kitchen is as good as one might find in Hunan itself. A self-defined fast casual spot, Silky Kitchen offers top-notch restaurant-level rice and noodle dishes, with spiciness customizable from regular to medium to spicy to extra spicy. We ordered the hot and sour fish noodle soup and the stir-fried chicken with chili paste over rice. The former was mind-blowingly delicious. The fish was so tender and the soup perfectly tart. Every bite was heavenly. So heart-warming for a cold winter day. The latter was too spicy for my taste, although my husband, a spice fiend, loved it. The service was quick and efficient. The space was large, clean, and very pleasant, comfortably fitting multiple strollers. We will surely be returning--to try Chairman Mao's Favorite Braised Pork no less.

Seeing all the high reviews, I was a bit disappointed when I tried the noodles at silky kitchen due to the taste and the price. I ordered the spicy and sour fish soup noodles and thought the taste was very mediocre. The fish slices didn't seem to be very fresh and tasted more like frozen fish. For the price I paid, around $17 for one soup noodle, I had expected it to taste better. I've had better noodles for cheaper. If you're looking for casual dining then you might enjoy dining at silky kitchen since you pick up the food and can just choose where you want to sit. I came with my friend and we didn't feel rushed to leave since there were plenty of seats available. The cashier was also very patient as we were deciding what to order for a while. Not sure I'd come back but maybe the other more popular dishes might be better!

I'm not sure why this place was marked so high. This was overpriced and okay in my opinion. I will say the service and ambiance is great, there is plenty of seating and clean restrooms available. We ordered the beef stew, stir fried chicken with chili and sweet rice cake. The stir fried chicken was good. A majority of their items are spicy so I'd recommend checking with the waiter to ensure you know what you're ordering, the waiter was extremely patient with us and helpful. The sweet rice cake was good as well but not the best. Personally though if you're in the mood for Chinese I'd recommend going to Chinatown for more affordable food.

I was actually craving an egg roll but didn't want to goto PF Changs, then the tried and true Hunan Dynasty weren't doing lunch specials because of Columbus Day - boo. So even though Silky didn't have egg rolls, I decided to give it a shot. The order taker didn't even know what an egg roll was! I ordered the Hunan Beef, mild but maybe she thought I said spicy cause it was medium high heat. At first the portion in a plastic bowl seemed small for $21 w a coke, but it lasted a while. Tasted great but not a huge amount of protein. Space is decent with wood tables. Overall conclusion - good but a little pricey.

Popped in with my friend randomly to find something easy for dinner. We ordered takeout to bring home. We both got dry noodles (so noodles with sauce instead of a soup base I think). Or you could've gotten rice as your base. The noodles were cooked to the perfect texture that they almost melt in your mouth, but not mushy or overcooked. I got pork which was cooked perfectly and came with a lot of meat. Not very spicy though and I asked for medium spice. My friend got hot & sour vegetable and was kinda spicy even though she got mild. Fast casual eating arrangement with bright lighting. You order at a counter and they call your number for you to pick up when it's ready.

Just ordered from here thru Grubhub for delivery. Dumplings are delicious. I ordered their popular pork item and got zero sauces with it or the shrimp. It's decent but would have been much better if some sauces would have been included. Coke was not cold.

A self-service Chinese restaurant with a decently sized sitting area. It is a fast-food style in that you order at the back of the restaurant, pick up your own food and tidy up afterwards, and thus they also do not accept tips. Got a bowl of rice noodles with stew beef on mild spicy, well cooked beef and noodles, the broth is relatively light - but I actually liked it, especially on mild spicy it is comfy and warm, but not so rich that would be heavy on your stomach. Would be a great comfort food choice for a weekend lunch.

Saw this place walking back to my hotel one night. I needed a quick dinner and noodle soups are my comfort food. It's quick and casual - cafeteria style. I had the spicy and sour fish noodle soup and pork/shrimp/chives dumplings the first night. The soup was flavorful and soooo good! I'd always wanted to try this dish but have never had the chance. The dumplings were delicious - super juicy and the sauce (some sort of sweet vinegar?) was the perfect complement. It was so good I returned a second time and tried the pork rib and cuttlefish noodle soup. This was a lot more bland, so it's good for days you just want something simple. The cuttlefish was surprisingly tasty. Overall I preferred the fish but there's a time and place for both. Definitely worth a stop!

If you are craving for some spicy Chinese food... I mean proper spice... Look no further. I ordered the Hot And Sour Vegetable Gai Ma with Dry Noodles and it was spicy and absolutely delicious. I went with the spice level as Spicy and thoroughly enjoyed it. Any more spicy and it would've been too difficult to handle. If you order online it's slightly expensive than ordering it in person/store.

I am not one to write reviews but I took one bite of the mapo tofu and was immediately transported back to my favorite spot in LA. Excellent food fast service and the ambiance was the 2017 Khalid album American Teen. 10/10

The stir fried bamboo shoots and pork with drey and rice noodle and adding extra pickles taste delicious. Good portion of food too. A pretty good restaurant for takeout. Order 20-30 min ahead of time since they are busy around lunch and dinner time

All week I've been trying dumplings out from different places near my job. Even though it took a while to come out I wasn't disappointed. The plating needed some work though. I was really happy it came with 6 pieces.

The food and service was great when we stopped around Christmas. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Had lunch with my co-workers at this place nearby to our office. Even though I got a mild rice noodle soup, it was still hilariously spicy which definitely speaks to the authenticity of the place. The food was delicious and a good size portion!

We got takeout for dinner and the food came insanely fast. I got the braised beef rice bowl and my friend got the braised pork bowl. Food was solid and the beef was super tender. I'll keep this short but sweet.

i LOVE rice noodles, just for starters. what we got: s1 stewed beef soup (5/5 yums): so this soup had a hint of almost a szechuan peppercorn flavor without the mala. it had a good amount of noodles and the beef was super soft and fatty. it was super good with the bokchoy. we got medium spicy and it wasn't really spicy s2 chairman mao's braised pork soup (5/5 yums): this is my pick. though the pork had ALOT of fat, the meat itself was super flavorful and the soup had a slight charred taste. it was super refreshing and I loved the little celery bits that added to the texture would recommend for a quick and easy dinner

Dinner for 2, takeway Highly flavorful, budget-friendly noodles! I ordered the beef and my friend Rosa C. ordered the squid. Both were delicious! Fast takeaway order that we took to Union Square Park to eat. Pretty spicy for mild for someone who likes a bit but not too much spice. Their herbal tea drink in a glass bottle was also so refreshing!

Silky Kitchen is conveniently located near Union Square, and we decided to give it a try. I like the decor of the place, and there is wifi too. So, I can see it as a great casual spot for getting work done while having a meal. As for the food, we ordered the beef stew, which consisted of some really tasty pieces of beef. However, the broth itself did lack salt and wasn't spicy. We also got the stir fried chicken in chili paste, which had pickled vegetables that unfortunately overpowered everything, much to my dismay. The chicken pieces themselves weren't particularly special, but got the job done. The portions here are adequate, and you might find yourself taking food home.

The food overall was absolutely fantastic!! The noodles were the best, and when they say spicy, they don't mess around. I recommend the cucumber salad with any of the dishes you order, it tastes great! Nothing wrong with the food. The fried tofu was also very good.

I ordered S15. Stir-Fried Bamboo Shoots w Pork in Dry Noodle Mix at MILD spice level and oof, that was quite the kick of spice even at what I thought was the lowest spice level. I can't handle spice well so had I known there was an option to order in "No Spice," I would have opted with that. I hope they let that be known verbally or written somewhere. Regardless, it was a very tasty meal. Took me a long while to finish but I managed to clean out every bit of my generously portion-sized meal. Despite it being called Dry Noodle Mix, it is definitely NOT dry with all the rice noodles doused in plenty of chili oil. There are condiments, cutlery, and napkins by the counter. It's an "order & pay at the counter then pick up your food when it's ready" kind of place. There was plenty of seating that was appropriately spaced out and good with any size parties. A single bathroom that's hidden out of sight - it's across the cashier. Spent nearly 2 hours here eating at ease with my friend as we caught up with life. Please clean up after yourselves.

A solid experience. Self service. Reasonably priced. Limited options for the carbo challenged. We began with the pork, chive and shrimp dumplings. These were savory and juicy. Beef tripe salad was tender and lightly seasoned. The best dish was the string beans, nicely seasoned and crisp. As La Portena doesnt do carbs, I was a solo act on noodles. I plumped for braised Hunan beef. The server steered me to medium which was surely hot enough. The beef was tender, the spice was nice, but the noodles could use an upgrade. The broth worked well to unify the dish. Decor is pretty basic. I'd take out next time.
