Investigating the Origins of Joanna Gaines’s Peanut Butter Brownies Recipe | Eater

"A highly visible, tourist-focused shopping and event complex in Waco co-created by Joanna Gaines that has become a central symbol of her brand; it's described as so popular with Texas visitors that it draws comparisons favoring it over even the Alamo. The site helped recast the city's image from a fraught historical moment to a curated, family-friendly destination that packages a folksy, design-driven aesthetic for shoppers and sightseers." - Bobby Finger

Visiting the Magnolia Silos in Waco, Texas was a fantastic experience! The space is beautifully designed and offers a wide variety of things to see and do. From unique boutique-style shops to charming outdoor spaces, there's truly something for everyone. One of the highlights was the family-friendly atmosphere — there's even a basketball court that adds a fun, active touch for kids and adults alike. The grounds are clean, inviting, and perfect for spending a few leisurely hours. The coffee from Magnolia Press was excellent — rich, smooth, and worth the short walk to the separate building where it’s served. I also tried the lemon lavender cupcake, and it was absolutely delicious — perfectly balanced with just the right amount of floral flavor. Overall, this is a must-visit destination if you're in the Waco area. Whether you're a fan of the Gaines' style or just looking for a great place to relax with family, the Silos won’t disappoint!

🌻 Magnolia at the Silos is a delightful gem that blends good taste with great vibes. From the moment you arrive, the air is buzzing with warmth and charm. 🥗 The food and drinks are a standout—delicious coffee with rich, comforting notes, refreshing lemonade that’s just the right mix of tart and sweet, and treats that hit every craving from sweet to savory. Everything feels thoughtfully crafted like the strawberry cupcake! 🛍️ The shopping experience is equally satisfying: stylish home goods, unique finds, and gifts at prices that won’t make your wallet sweat. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 And the atmosphere? Perfectly family-friendly. Whether you’re chasing little ones on the lawn, grabbing a bite at the food trucks, or lounging under string lights, it’s a relaxing and welcoming place to linger. Definitely worth the trip from Dallas. Most of the shopping is outside - so be prepared for hot weather in the summer!

Google
Considering we were there for four hours before noticing the time, I'd say we had a great time. The designs, the stores, the food trucks, the friendliness of the staff, all made our visit so enjoyable. Chip and Joanna have created something truly special.

Google
This is a beautiful place to just hang out and enjoy the weather. I loved all the food trucks! There was a truck that had Southern Sweet tea. That was very good! I love to people watch! It was fun just hanging out there!

Google
Bucket list fulfilled! Highly recommend. So peaceful and relaxing. Lots of places to see inside. Dog friendly! I got a really cool burlap bag in pink at the Market. But thus was something I'd watched on TV being transformed into what it is today. My mom-in-love would have really enjoyed this. Dont forget to grab you a 6 pack of Joanna Gaines' fresh bakery cupcakes. I highly recommend the Lemon-lavender cupcakes for sure.

Google
Extremely beautiful, well manicured area to enjoy some great weather and people watch, but the "shops" were just not for me. We went early on a Monday, so food trucks weren't open, but unless you are a big Gains fan, I can't imagine wanting to want to actually shop there, vs just hang out. Very beautiful grounds, not much substance in the shops. 🤷‍♂️

Sarah Monty

Google
Went with family and friends to visit. Had the BEST cupcakes I’d ever had in my life! Enjoyed the food and the shops. Took tons of pictures and explored the area. Definitely want to go again to visit. I love Chip and Joanna and what they are doing with their industry. It’s really great to see such wonderful people doing great things!

James M

Google
I’m not a huge fixer upper watcher but the positive impact the Gaines’ have had is enormous to this area and helps overshadow the Mount Carmel incident. They have built a beautiful block of shops that are super family friendly. It is safe to enjoy yourself and has kid oriented themes. The ballfield was my biggest joy and the statues of Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth are amazing.

Yelp
Visited this market last week and I was amazed! Just like many of you here, I'm a Joanna Gaines fan but what she has done with this place, blows my mind. It has something for every single person of your fam - 1. Bakery 2. Exclusive Magnolia Store 3. Huge Outdoor space/play area 4. Food Trucks Highly recommend spending a day here!

Yelp
This is the place: - kid friendly - dog friendly - husband friendly There's something for everyone at Magnolia Market. This is a great place to grab good food, tasty drinks, and thoughtful gifts.
google avatar

Mirella R.

Yelp
I will not complain about pricing like many people have posted in their reviews. Why because this is a tourist spot. We all know that! With that being said, I had waited over 5 years to visit this cute spot. Let me just point out how clean the whole area was. Staff was friendly and greeted us no matter what little corner we visited. We had lemonade, cupcake and burgers!
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
It was a really cool place with a lot of stores to choose from. I think on the weekends it definitely would be better because the food trucks would be open although they were a couple open today but there's a lot of activities, games with your family. A lot of history, I really enjoyed it. I WOULD RECOMMEND
google avatar

Yelp
Very very pricey, but I still got suckered in and bought stuff. The items aren't Made in China, but primarily Made in India. Lots of items are unique. We were here midweek, so the crowds weren't as detailed in many reviews reported. The grounds tour takes you to a perch where one can take photos of the silos from a 4th floor deck. Try the coffee shop if you visit here. The coffee was wonderful. The church renovation was perfect. The barn was a great move from Canada. No nails were used in its construction.
google avatar

Aimee H.

Yelp
Everything's made in China!? And yet it's extremely overpriced!? Such a disappointment. I thought the whole mission of this place was to promote creativity and to lift up and endorse local vendors and local businesses.... To build "Waco".... Don't get me wrong, it's a cool place in appearance, but the agenda behind it is pretty gross because it's clearly more about money than anything.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
It's like a Disney World for adults who like interior design and decor. It is truly beautiful, clean and a pleasant place to be. We're glad we can stop by and visit this place easily. Kudos to Joanna for what she's created.
google avatar

Anthony K.

Yelp
This is a cool place to visit from a historic perspective, but shopping here will cost a lot more than anywhere else. Case in point, I took an image of a pickleball pack. It was $28. Here with the exact mtg pack on eBay for $6.99. That's a considerable markup. We did the 45-min walking tour which is $25.00. The guide drove both of us crazy with her cackling laugh, and forgot what she was supposed to say a few times.
google avatar

Jenna K.

Yelp
If you go with the mindset that you'll be spending money for Target-type decor, it will be a great trip! It's a beautiful area that's large and spaced out so enough people can walk around and see many things. Lots of shops (yes, money grab, asking $20-50 for mugs, keychains, shirts, etc.), but the silos and garden and bakery are a must! I'm not a huge HGTV fan but I still found it beautiful and a great way to spend an hour or two. We parked down the street in a free parking area and walked a block or two. Easy to find and a great day trip!
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
Very pretty but as expected over priced. That's that we were there on a day where everything is 20% off. Great to get an idea of what you're looking for but check out her line at target! I loved all the curated nooks.
google avatar

Karisa A.

Yelp
Beautiful market with well-laid-out grounds! So glad I finally visited Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Market--perfect for a road trip stop, especially for Fixer Upper fans! The grounds feature a grassy area with lawn games, plenty of picnic tables, food trucks, and a coffee shop. I tried a rice bowl from the Club Sandwich truck, and it was delicious! The market itself is nice but smaller than expected--mostly just one floor. Still, their candles smell amazing, and the kitchenware is stunning! Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
This place is very sweet. They have so many items for your home. I love their candle holders and candles. Unfortunately didn't buy candles to go with my holder in fear of it melting due to the long drive home in hot weather. But I can't wait to use my holders! I also bought some tea towels. They are so soft like as if they were made from flour sacks. I also bought them with the salt and pepper shakers with flowers in them for some of my friends to give as Christmas gifts. The prices are reasonable. They also sell Magnolia t-shirts and sweatshirts which I didn't purchase. The cashiers are a little too busy talking before they realize you are waiting for them to ring you up. Other than that I'd go back again.

Yelp
We were curious about Waco for the tragedy during 1993. Since we pass by this city. We decided to check it out about this city attractions. We found the Magnolia Market that has two silo farm markets. The magnolia market is located in the historic district and walking distance from doctor pepper museum. The market is one of the biggest attractions in this city. The two big silo are the landmark attraction. Great photo opportunity. Love this big compound have many to offer. It includes shop, food, playground, garden, concert open area and more. The shop includes variety of gift shops, antique store, furniture store. Food includes coffee shop, snack, bakery, food truck. The visit can last 1 to 2 hours. Parking is free street parking.
google avatar

Laure H.

Yelp
Very cute spot and well maintained. Many people on the weekends walking around and having a great time with their kids. The food trucks are outrageously expensive but oh well. You can just grab a bite before you come explore.
google avatar

Brenda K.

Yelp
I finally got to visit Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas! I thought it would be a much larger area but was totally surprise by all the different food trucks there! It was a great day for our visit, sunny and warm! We also stop by all the different boutique stores that were there too!
google avatar

Sheldon B.

Yelp
We were in TX for a family gathering. On the last day, I heard my wife say to her sister and brother: "do you wanna go to Waco?" You remember "The Wonder Years"? It was at that moment, I knew I was going to be driving our crew of 7 Magnolia Market! I think was my fourth time visiting Magnolia. I like the updates to the garden area with the couches. Plus they have a map of the property now that shows all the hard work they've put in the design. What happened to the manly section inside the store? I dropped off our group at the front entry (5 people), they raided the bakery instantly and went for the box of muffins or truffles, whatever you call them l, they were delish. We literally arrived 40 minutes before close on a 2.5 hour drive. It was still a good time. Staff was very friendly and welcoming and the security officer/off duty officer was the man. You don't have to spend money when you visit, go hang out, take photos, walk the garden or chill out, or go wild and spend, splurge, empty your bank account, hustle. In the end, you'll be glad you visited.
google avatar

Cathrine S.

Yelp
Magnolia Market is such a fun place for fans of Chip & Joanna Gaines. The entire property screams Joanna Gaines, every inch is so well manicured and decorated. We enjoyed the shops and food offerings. It was a long drive from Austin, but I'm glad we stopped by.
google avatar

Sarena T.

Yelp
The perfect spot for a girl's trip!!! I found this place to be very intentionally designed and well thought-out! There are soo many cute photo ops. You can easily spend 4+ hours here, meandering the bakery, the large Magnolia shop, the food trucks, the little redone church, and the square of cute shops. We came in the afternoon and didn't realize that the grounds close early at 6pm so we didn't get to explore everything. The food we got from the food trucks were delicious - the sweet iced tea, the grilled cheese sandwiches, the lemonade were all spot on. Family-friendly as well, I saw a lot of little ones and there's a large outdoor green area in the middle that they can play on. I almost got hit with a soccer ball haha. Parking is street parking in the surrounding roads, fortunately it's free. I will be visiting again to hit the spots I missed the first time!

Dan M.

Yelp
What a wasted trip. Not sure why we even gave this place our business. Sad day for this company.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Stopped by on a whim while driving back to San Antonio from Fort Worth. It was a perfect spot for a break to stretch my legs during a long road trip. It was hard to find parking but I found a spot off the street a couple of blocks away. I needed the walk about hours of driving anyway! The grounds were beautiful and I had a delicious hot dog from one of the food trucks. Would love to come back and explore when I have more time.
google avatar

Azi H.

Yelp
Cool destination. Very family, kids and pet friendly. Most food trucks were closed, super long lines at the gift shop and sweet tea truck. Very busy. Street parking hard to find so it was a long walk by the time we found one. Parking lot across the street charging $10. Free admission is a plus. Gift items were very pricey.
google avatar

Yelper A.

Yelp
Good place to visit. When it's busy though, you'll need to pay the $10 parking nearby organizations will charge. Watch out when it starts getting super windy there though. The huge umbrellas start flying and so does the pollen. Watch out for the annoying brats who start tossing a football near places where people sit. They could care less if it hits you and their so-called parents don't help either.
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Wife's a fan of Fixer Upper and this was a must stop. With that being said, the family had a great time here. It had something for everyone. My kid loved playing with all the other children as it has several large playgrounds with balls and games. I had food trucks to sample and plenty of places to sit and watch the kids while my wife toured the stores and went picture crazy. I read some of the prior reviews only because I wasn't quite sure why the low ratings. I didn't find it to over crowded and I also didn't find it to be overpriced from a food truck perspective. There was security all around. They were visible but also friendly and helpful. All around it was a great spot for the family to spend a beautiful day.

patricia g.

Yelp
It was not what I expected, most of the things they sold o could find in target, it was very small shops with repetitive items, I spent 20.00 on a cheaply made umbrella, because it was raining all day. Took us like an hour to walk through, the gardens were not well kept and very small.
google avatar

Yelp
Magnolia Market is a fun place to visit. Especially if you are hosting friends/family from out of state. I have visited four times now. One time is actually good enough, but like I mentioned, nice to bring visitors. The bakery has very delicious treats, but I don't think it is worth waiting in the long line it often has. If there isn't much of a line, I like to go in. However, it is worth trying out at least once. The market and shops are fun to walk through. Even find a treasure that might be worth the high cost. I do find that the products are too expensive. I know it is over priced for the name "Chip and Joanna Gaines". There is a fun play park for children and adults alike. Play a little ball or play cornhole. I love looking at the silos. I appreciate how they are a huge part of the Magnolia Market property. Also, visit the old church that was moved and restored to Magnolia Silos. There is a lovely little garden, with a small shop, to walk through. There is a coffee shop for your energy boost that offers good treats. But I love all the food trucks. Rather is food from one of the trucks or you backed your own snacks/lunch, have a picnic sitting at any of the many picnic tables or sitting on the grass. Relax and enjoy the vibe and atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
It's good! There are many facets to the Magnolia Market & Garden. The market is chock-full of great finds for a farmhouse chic feel and aesthetic for home decor, clothing, and knickknacks. Also-- the people (locals and visitors alike) are piling in to see and get their hands on a piece of the empire. There's a sale section, and a discounted "dent and scratch" section (very smart). The Magnolia compound is family-friendly w/ a guestbook to sign. (Yet another clever idea). On the whole, Chip and Joanna have done (and continue to do) a great thing here for the Waco community-- and they're doing it right!
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
We made the trek to Waco just to visit the Magnolia stores and the Silos. The entire esthetic is beautifully done. I applaud Chip, Jo and whoever else had a hand in the entire layout and design. The Market was a beautiful store, and the merchandise is a bit pricey. But, I fully expected it to be! We did not stay right next to the property but I want to caution anyone staying close to be prepared for the surrounding area. It is not as well kept. I never felt unsafe but I was also not visiting at night.
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
I'm not a Chip or Joanna fan. But I still came to see what the hype is. This is a great family place, with something for everyone.
google avatar

Cristina A.

Yelp
I'm shocked this place doesn't have an abundance of 5 star reviews. As soon as you walk up the steps we were greeted by a friendly security guard he smiled and welcomes us in. As soon as we step foot in the magnolia store you smell the soft scents that that you naturally associate with holidays. The store is beautiful with everything you can think of. I went into all the stores and the church and each one was just as well thought out as the previous. So many cute items, useful things and chic furniture. Prices are a little steep but that's to be expected and I feel the quality is there to justify it. Final stop was the bakery and no disappointments from me I would totally recommend to stop by. How could you be in Waco and not stop by Magnolia.
google avatar

Chandra H.

Yelp
An epic girls trip with my mom and sister in laws, one which we will never forget. The moment we stepped onto the property, we were captivated by the charming and inviting atmosphere. The market is beautifully designed, reflecting Joanna Gaines' signature style with every detail thoughtfully curated. The staff welcomed you at the door and was very attentive and helpful throughout our experience, and gave us room to look and shop without hovering. In addition to the fantastic shopping experience, the on-site food trucks and Silos Baking Co. offer delicious treats and refreshments. The bakery's cupcakes are a must-try, and the variety of food options ensures there's something for everyone. Recommend going during the middle of the week for less crowds.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
Bucket list I've always wanted to visit Magnolia Market Place and I'm so glad I did. I enjoyed each shop and the different smells in each store. They had so many different shops that were uniquely decorated to choose from. The prices were a little pricey but you're getting the name. Everyone there were very friendly and attentive. It was definitely an experience!
google avatar

Cindy T.

Yelp
They have a bakery. We did try the blueberry crumble muffin. It was good. The home decor and items are a bit pricey but they did have a 20% off sale going the weekend we were there. The highlights for us were the history connected to the location. The Katy Park ball field has a historical marker. You could play an abbreviated game of baseball. It was neat. They have a beautiful restored church on the property where you can sit and cool off. They have multiple food trucks, a garden area, multiple shops and green spaces.
google avatar

Grace B.

Yelp
This place was so beautiful. I have never gravitated to country rustic decor. I thought of it as pretty. I just never visualized myself creating a home with this theme. But after seeing all their displays, kitchen accessories, home accessories, I really love it. It gives you a sense of country rustic but with luxury too. I can now visualize possibilities. So beautiful. There's a clearance area. Their candles smelled so wonderful. I think there were t shirts by the cash register and types of purses. Also tumblers. I had my eye on their measuring spoons. There were porcelain ones, copper, regular steel and aluminum. So much variety. You can find something for anyone.
google avatar

Carolyn P.

Yelp
Better and better each year! We drove down for the one day, Saturday then stayed overnight. Better if you visit on a Friday to get to do everything. Sunday alot is closed! Most places to eat other than normal chains are closed. We love new places to try. Music is great. Find a place to sit in shade! They definitely need more tables for this big event in October. Bathrooms use to be the issue, solved that, so now covered seating. Wish they had more shopping of small items. So many areas to walk around. Pastries always lined up. All the food trucks are great. Saw a couple of shady people this visit but they do not charge entrance fee. They do have security walking around. Put this on your calendar!
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
The Magnolia Market and Silos is a fun place to visit. I recommend going during the week as it is much less busy. There isn't really much to do there unless you're going to eat and walk through the shops. I visited several times because out of town guests like to check it out. It's a fun tourist trap
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Magnolia complex with coffee shop, bakery, home store and a bunch more stuff here. Geezzzz.. plan on spending time here looking around . Very interesting place... thanks Joanna and Chip for creating this place!
google avatar

Lorena R.

Yelp
I was very underwhelmed. Yes, the place is big and has a great variety of decor but you have to like that specific style because there's no variation. The small individual store cottages seemed like a repetition of what was in the large warehouse. We stopped lookout after going into a few. Decor is pricey so be ready to spend. Very clean, plenty of seating and open outdoor areas for pic ops. Food trucks on sight offer a good variety of foods to choose from and no alcohol is served (in case you were wondering). I recommend taking something to drink because the Texas sun is no joke!
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Can't thank the manager Sunshine enough! She helped when app not working and got me squared away for my birthday. Combine that with Alex and Ladarius at Chip's store and we were able to walk away with the item I had hoped for. High five for the three of them. Clutch team work!
google avatar

Athena H.

Yelp
A Waco must do but overhyped in my opinion. We have been a handful of times and it's fun to stroll through and sight see if you love HGTV. However, everything is incredibly overpriced and can be very crowded especially in the small kiosk stores. There are lots of cute photo spots. There is a huge turn area for kids to play as well as a small baseball field.
google avatar

Sonya E.

Yelp
Beautiful market to visit on a bright and sunny day. There are lots of boutiques, shops, and just all around good vibes for a day out. It's a huge space filled with local culture, art, and music. There are food carts and a pretty large outdoor eating space covered with umbrellas. Definitely a nice place to visit while in Waco. Go for the stroll and make some memories!
google avatar

P H.

Yelp
Really do not understand the hype to this place. The area is pretty, and that's about it. All the food is overpriced food trucks, with limited seating. The bakery had a very long line that wasn't moving, so we didn't try and find out if it was good. Looking at the prices, likely good, but not worth the wait or price. The marketplace seemed like an overpriced place to find stuff you'd see in target, home goods, and other similar places. There is a large yard area kids can play in, but outside of that it's not really anything special.
google avatar

Sammy L.

Yelp
Great spot to take in all the things you love about Joanna and Chip! If you are a fan and have nothing else to do in Waco, stop by and have a nice afternoon of eating and browsing the shops. The parking can get dicey but we decided on paying $10 at the lot next to the Dr Pepper museum for convenience. When the weather is nice, it's gonna be packed. There are so many food trucks, it's great for a group where everyone will find something they like to eat. My four stars is for the seating situation, there needs to be more shaded seating for the amount of people. Otherwise, it's such a fun place to hangout. The kids can run around near the baseball field and dogs are welcomed. Very family friendly. The gardens were my favorite spot, so pretty! The magnolia trees are dotted all over the property. Stop by for some afternoon fun with the whole entourage or just for solo time. Can't go wrong here in Waco!
google avatar

Debbie T.

Yelp
Created by tv personalities Chip and Joan who redo homes. The silos and market is a central open park with surrounding stores, bakery and food trucks. It's set up beautifully but I don't get it. The store is beautifully decorated with overpriced home goods made in china that can be found other places. The bakery has a long line for cupcakes. They are good but not worth the lines. The food trucks have option for pizza, waffles, burgers and $10 ice tea in a mason jar. Not a place to go in the Texas summer I personally do not think it's worth the detour to Waco for a visit
google avatar

Kenny N.

Yelp
I haven't been since 2018. AM lot has changed. There are food truck and tons of sitting area to eat at. Decided to visit the bakery since the last time I went, it wasn't open yet. Got 2 cupcakes and it was delicious. The line was long but move fairly quickly since you get a menu card and when you get to the counter, you just hand them your order and they punch it in. Tons of small shops in the back and the main one near the bakery. A great spot just to hang out and eat and doing a little shopping.
google avatar

Hayley S.

Yelp
We went on a Tuesday and it was fairly busy. We are glad we came on a weekday instead of a Saturday! The staff in the shops are friendly, the value seems to have gone up a decent amount in years. Luckily, they have 10% off perk that you can sign up for and use all day at all the stores, so that helped us a lot! It's fun to walk around and spend the day at while in Waco.
google avatar

Les G.

Yelp
It's a beautiful place with lots of shops. Normally the food trucks are open, but not today. There are signs about Christmas, but we didn't see many decorations, except for the occasional wreath. People are friendly and happy, and not just the workers. It's a fun place to stop by for a visit. Parking is tight. We drove around until we found an open lot. Most places charge $10 to park.

Joanne D.

Yelp
Much smaller then excepted. Expensive. But people friendly. Should sell the antique's on display. I walked around for half an hour holding a book that was not for sale. Felt stupid when I went up to counter to pay. . O well.

D R.

Yelp
What a beautiful place to visit. Drove through Waco and got to experience this place which was such a treat to ourselves for our 25th wedding anniversary. Regardless if you are a fan, this place was so well thought out and planned that it speaks for itself.

Yelp
Visiting Magnolia Market and the Silos has been on my list of must travel to places since Chip and Joanna Gaines brought it into existence! With that said, it was the perfect spot to visit on a Monday afternoon after having breakfast at Magnolia Table. We were able to find free parking in a lot about a block away since there was no street parking available, and we didn't mind walking to not pay $10 for parking in a lot closer to the silos. We walked in through the entrance closest to Magnolia Press Coffee Co and were immediately taken back by how beautiful the garden and outdoor patio is! As we continued to walk further we were in a courtyard area where the renovated church is and where you can find the little boutique shops which are each curated to different categories such as one for men, women's apparel, stationary items, plants, and a few others. As you continue walking through there is the cutest mini baseball field next to another seating area and a variety of food trucks to choose from. Past that you reach the main entertainment area where you can find more covered seating, a large open grass area where you can play corn hole, take in the view of the silos, wonder into the garden, and where the main Magnolia home store is located. There is also the Bakery located just outside of the gates to the left. Overall, we had a wonderful time wondering through the Market and seeing all that the Market had to offer. It's definitely worth the stop if you're near Waco with a few hours to spare to go and enjoy a few hours wondering and relaxing.
