In this time of Covid and sheltering in, the importance of having something delicious you didn't have to prepare yourself carries more weight than usual. I'm happy to report that Silsila met the bar gracefully.
We try a couple of times a week to support our local restaurateurs, spreading our limited money around as best we can. So this was our first time trying Silsila--but it won't be our last.
We ordered on line for pick up. Easy peasy. No problems, no confusions. Everything ready as promised.
The vegetable samosas were very nice. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, spiced lightly but balanced.
Papadum!! Yay. Not a lot of places have these anymore but I got an order and we were happy. Crispy, not greasy, folded (which was a new one), so good dipped in the very nice mint sauce.
I had spinach naan and my partner had the lamb. Both were very good, light and nicely flavored. I saved half of mine for tomorrow's breakfast, my partner scarfed it all, he said it was that good.
The Raita was some of the best I have had. Not the usual garlicky yoghurt paste with strings of cucumber, but creamy, tiny cubes of cucumber and I detected a hint of rosewater. It was almost like eating a desert.
Chicken Tikka was more "English" stye, as the owner said. Which means a bit sweeter, less spicy. Tender meat but more sauce than meat in the balance.
The Butter Chicken, which was my choice, had a wonderful surprise of coriander which emerged on my tongue. It also was a bit redder than I am used to. The meat was very tender.
The mango chutney tasted like a store-bought mango chutney, but we were happy to have it's salty sweet balance.
The proprietor was friendly and suggested calling directly next time to order to save a few dollars.
Go for it. This business opened a few months before the pandemic hit and we want to see them continue.
Oh, as those who read my reviews know, I usually post lots of photos. I have to confess that I was so hungry and so excited by the food that I forgot to whip out my camera. So....imagine a plate of color and texture with happy fingers dipping in.
