This is one of my favorite wineries in the Napa/Sonoma/Healdsburg area. Overall, this is a beautiful winery with stunning scenery, a very nice modern building, and fantastic, fresh food paired with carefully selected wines. I always recommend this specific location (I've never been to their other location in Napa) whenever friends ask for Napa recommendations.
My boyfriend and I came here for a food and wine pairing around 11 am on a Saturday and were pleased to discover that because we chose an early slot, we got the large private room with an incredible view all to ourselves.
The experience started with a tour of the gardens behind the winery, where we walked through rows of plants and flowers. We had a tour guide who introduced key plants to us and encouraged us to pick certain plants to try, such as raw stevia and fresh fennel. Like with many wineries in the region, they make their food with almost all ingredients from their own garden and anything they don't grow themselves, they source locally from places nearby in the same valley.
We got one bite-sized course while outside after finishing up our tour. We went back inside to continue with our remaining courses, which composed of a wonderful and fresh pasta dish, an absolutely fantastic main course (which I believe was duck though I can't quite remember and I'm sure it changes), and a cheese course that was "dessert", which my boyfriend absolutely loved. He called it the best cheese course he's ever had. The food was fresh, beautifully presented, and carefully explained to us by the chefs who came out to serve us themselves.
The wine pairings were also explained very thoroughly with each course. Even though I discovered that I'm not the biggest fan of Alexander Valley wine (I prefer Russian River wine), the whole experience and pairing experience was still so enjoyable that I didn't mind. I also only discovered this wine preference after they were nice enough to pour us extra glasses of Russian River to compare with the Alexander Valley.
Most importantly, everyone would leave after serving us the course so that we could enjoy the gorgeous view and the breeze (we asked them to open the doors to the outside patio) while eating. It was the perfect balance of relaxing eating time and engaging conversation with the chefs as they brought out each plate.
A few other things to note: we got two wine glasses as souvenirs from our visit in a cloth tote bag, which was a nice surprise. In addition if you plan to come here, you NEED to either have a driver or drive yourself. Ubers are extremely hard to come by in this area and while Silver Oak has some taxi services they frequently recommend to guests, it's not always the case that there will be an available driver to pick you up immediately.
