Where To BYOB in LA

"Who says vegans can’t have fun? The dime-sized Silver Lake staple has been dishing out food that vegans eat for a while now, but few realize it’s BYOB. There are only a few tables at this sidewalk cafe, but if you can snag one, a bottle (or two) of wine during dinner never hurt anyone." - brant cox

Landlord Evicts Silver Lake’s Flore Vegan, But Owner Finds New Space - Eater LA

"The nearly shuttered Silver Lake’s Flore Vegan found some new life this month. The 13-year-old restaurant planned to permanently close at the end of February, after the new landlord served eviction papers in late 2019. But in a surprising twist, Flore owner Miranda Megill has a new home. It’s less than a mile away at the former Local on Sunset Blvd. near Silver Lake Boulevard." - Mona Holmes

Google
This business is not 100% vegan. After questioning the cashier several times about the goat meat and shrimp options available on the menu, she said those options were vegetarian, so I questioned her about the restaurant being advertised as vegan, and trying to assure if the food options were free of cow’s milk, fish all that stuff. She kept saying yes, but something didn’t sit right with me. She said “it was all veggies and menu was vegan” so I continued questioning her about the goat meat options available on the menu which made me feel really bad. I respect this woman making her living and don’t wanna sound inconvenient at all. But they don’t sell what is advertised. Please ask questions and make sure you’re getting an animal cruelty free meal before you order from this business. The whole thing sounded contradictory. So please, be really aware they’re not 100% vegan. They use vegan on their name, to attract more people (I guess) but they’re far from being a vegan business. I hope one day this can change. The food was like 99% rice and 1% veggies (peas, cauliflower and carrots) I don’t recommend this business, unless you’re really hungry and nothing else is available/opened. Blessings.

Herlinda

Google
Don’t advertise as vegan if you’re not vegan. A vegan meal involves no animal products whatsoever because we are disgusted with the cruelty and exploitation. And you should be too!

Kristin

Google
The food was good but they are NOT a vegan restaurant. They have about 10 items on their menu that are vegan. When we questioned whether their lentil crackers were vegan, we did not trust our waiter’s response. Overall, I recommend choosing a real vegan restaurant and foregoing this place.

Google
My wife and I are vegetarian and really enjoyed the food, service, and music here. It reminded me of Indian restaurants on Brick Lane in London. One thing to note: this place is not strictly a vegan restaurant as advertised, but they do have vegan options on the menu.

Google
Great service and food. Bubbly was our server and she was very attentive and kind. She recommended different drinks and sides based on the entrees we chose which was really considerate since it was our first time dining there. Vegan options are basically endless and the vegan mango lassi made my day. Lovely restaurant.

Google
Good food, but this is **NOT a vegan restaurant. This is a regular Indian restaurant that has a couple vegan options. When you call to place the order, the people on the phone do not know what you are talking about. It was good food, but a total lie... so 3 stars?

June Bug

Google
NOT a vegan restaurant as their website tries to appear, just a separate vegan menu at a standard Indian restaurant. They even have their slaughter certificate posted up on the front window! Also they illegally discriminated against me for having my medically necessary service dog even after I tried to explain to them that they were violating the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Google
I am just leaving one star because although the food smelled great, this is not actually a vegan restaurant. This is very misleading. I was looking for a dedicated vegan restaurant (no cross contamination) and thankfully before I ate anything, I noticed that it’s being run out of a general meat restaurant and left. To be honest, it felt so disrespectful to advertise a dedicated vegan restaurant and realize it’s mixed with meat and dairy.

Yelp
I'm not sure if I ordered too late but my dishes were unfortunately overcooked. The biryani also had too much sauce so possibly why it was too mushy. Even so, the green curry and Chana saagwala dish were both tasty but once again I wish it was more fresh. I think I'll try them earlier in the day and not late night next time. Still great to have a nearby vegan restaurant!!!

Yelp
Found this place in a Yelp search and the pics were deceiving. The Vegetable Zalfrazi and Naan were aight. It made m full, but definitely wouldn't be placed on my list of fav Indian Places. There wasn't enough base in this dish. I wanted more of the soup like liquid in this dish, but it was plagued with veggies instead. I wanted balance. It was good, but nothing spectacular. The disappointment came when I tasted the Naan. It tasted like pure flour. Pure enriched, bleached, flour with seeds in it to give it taste. It was basically seasoned flour. It didn't taste like the Naan bread I'm used to, and this new vegan one wasn't it. I'm saving the veggies for later since I didn't eat it all, so I might pair it with some noodles.

Yelp
If you are vegan- DO NOT EAT HERE! I ordered a mango lassi and chana saagwala and the taste was okay. I bit into my food and spit it out immediately because it had a piece of chicken in it. I haven't eaten meat in a 7 years but knew that this was not the texture or chickpeas. I called the store and the owner told me that they do in fact sell meat products. I asked why do you have vegan in your name and they simply apologized and said they keep things separate. They told me my delivery driver probably messed up the orders and asked did I receive the vegan mango lassi or the non vegan one- I really hope it was vegan, but my stomach issues from today might suggest otherwise. When I eat, I try to eat at 100% vegan restaurants but the name definitely fooled me.

Yelp
Great Vegan options!! Not everything is vegan but you can get the vegetarian combo plate and ask for vegan modifications. Customer service is always great, they're kind and attentive. The food is really tasty and comes in large portions, that leave me feeling full. I have came here twice and excited to go back.

Yelp
Ordered through ubereats. I'm not vegan but I wanted to try to be healthy. I got the onion bhaji, eggplant curry and vegetable tikka masala. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavor. The onion bhaji had a slight kick, a little different from what I was used to but still very tasty. The eggplant curry had large pieces of eggplant, which I liked. The usual eggplant dishes that I'm used to have pureed eggplant so this version was a new texture and that was nice. The tikka masala almost tasted like the real deal! There was so much spice! Portions were pretty generous as well. The containers were filled to the brim. It would be nicer if you could also pick the level of spicy.

Yelp
I agree with the reviewers who say that the name of this restaurant is deceiving-- if you go there it's actually called "India's Restaurant." It's not all vegan, but a place with vegan options. With that said, some of the vegan options are sneaky. E.G. you can get a vegan cheese naan-- you just have to ask for it specifically. The food I got was all absolutely delicious, and met my high standards for Indian food (having lived in NYC's little India!) The restaurant itself was giant, and service was impeccable. I recommend that folks stop relying on apps to interpret their needs and go out to ask in-person. I'm sure their experiences would be far better.

Yelp
TERRIBLE. Do not eat here if you are vegan. I ordered the mixed vegetable curry, rice and vegan samosas. I started with the samosas and was eating in the dark watching a movie, and it sorta tasted like ground meat but I figured it was tofu or ground beyond meat or something because the place is called "silverlake vegan". I turned the lights on because I wanted to see what it looked like and it looked legit like ground meat. I called the restaurant and then they said they do have meat filled samosas. What the f? Despicable. Don't brand your restaurant as vegan if you aren't a vegan restaurant. Never felt so disgusted. I've been vegan for a long time and have never once accidentally eaten meat. This broke that and I feel sick. This place should shut down

Yelp
This is false advertising. Online and on any map application, it's listed as Silverlake vegan. When you show up the restaurants name is different. They will say that the restaurant is Silverlake vegan, but they're not a vegan restaurant, they are a restaurant with vegan options. Because I keep kosher, the only non-kosher restaurants I can eat at are completely vegan. So when I had showed up, I realized that I couldn't eat there at all and didn't even get to try the food.

Heema P.

Yelp
The name says vegan but it isn't even all vegan options. Would not recommend this option for vegetarian and vegan since they serve meat.

Yelp
I found this place in Yelp search and decided to order late night food. The best vegan food in silver lake. Channel Masala and green coconut curry excellent The delivery was too fast and excellent food

Yelp
Literally my all time favorite place to order delivery. I love basically everything here honestly. The samosas are literally sent from above. The sauces pair well with them. I like the red sauce and finish it off with the green. I highly recommend ordering here. I've gone to pick up my food in person and it was nice to meet the staff. They were very polite and nice. This place is always poppin! If you like steaming hot flavorful Indian food upon delivery you found the right place.

Yelp
the green coconut curry was colored with bright green food dye! what the holy jalapeño! when i called them, they hung up on me before i started speaking. don't do it.

Yelp
I am a vegan myself and finding a good vegan restaurant was hard. I saw this restaurant online and I stopped by to try their food. They have amazing food here at Silver Lake Vegan and I definitely recommend most of their food. I really love the Channa Masala and Biriyani. I will definitely be back another time in the near future because that was amazing food.

B P.

Yelp
Babli, was amazing! They basically can make anything on the menu into a vegan version which is a game changer! I had the vegan curry, saffron rice, garlic nan and vegan mango lassi. It was all so good! And the service was amazing.

Grant B.

Yelp
Attempted to place a takeout order, everything was going fine until he asked me if I wanted to order anything else. I said no that's it, please add some extra sauce for the appetizer. He replied" you want to fucking joke around calling here ordering?" I was so taken back this was my first time EVER calling this place and it will be my last. Truly Odd interaction and terrible customer service

Yelp
One of the best vegan food places I have ever been to. They are on top of orders, I got my food very fast, and it was basically perfect when I got it. I highly recommend checking out this place if your in Silver Lake

Yelp
so happy to find a place with many vegan options open late! great service and excellent food. will be returning :)

Bradley C.

Yelp
I love them. Thank you for staying open late for me and for the extra sauce and awesome service. Great food and portions.

Iza F.

Yelp
Very tasty Indian food, seasoned just right. Generous portions. You'd never know it by the look of the place which doesn't even have a sign with it's new name on the outside. Just be aware that not everything on their menu is vegan, but if you ask for it to be made vegan, I believe it can be (this is so with the green coconut curry). The odd thing is that they don't offer any breads, only rice options to go with the mains. I recommend the yellow dal, saag chana, and green coconut curry made vegan.
