10 of the Most Myrtle Beach Restaurants in Myrtle Beach | Eater

"There are no gimmicks at this friendly, expansive buffet in a spartan, cafeteria-style dining room. All the effort and love goes directly into the barbecue pork and chicken, tomatoes and okra, and incredible cheddar biscuits. You’re covered whether you prefer squash, broccoli, or sweet potatoes in your casserole. It’s also the place to sample chicken bog, a coastal Carolina, one-pot chicken and rice dish. The pulled pork is vinegar-based, although there’s a straight-off-the-smoker option for mustard and ketchup-base fans. The only downside of this temple to Southern cooking is that they take Sunday off."

Google
I just happened to see their sign from the road and decides to have a late lunch. The southern style food was amazing. Mashed potatoes and gravy, southern green beans, limas, all the good "grandma made it like this" sides! Fried chicken, baked chicken, fried fish, everything was great! Staff is friendly and attentive. Someone is constantly doing something. Cleaning tables, cleaning at the buffett, rotating food etc. This could be one of my favorite places to eat when I'm in the area. $15 includes buffet & drink for lunch, very reasonable, I think. Highly recommend!!

Two of my sons came down last week and found this place. They were Adamant that we HAD to eat here. It is Simply Southern soul food at its finest. The service was great and Ms. Teresa would sing every once in a while and her voice is amazing!! (I’ve included a video. You’re welcome! 😁) The sweet tea was delicious, my Friends. 12/10 I will be back!

Google
Wow, what an amazing experience! Every bite was bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home. The place was spotless with plenty of seating, which made it so inviting. While exploring the area, I struggled to find some good home-cooked food until I stumbled upon this gem, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I indulged in just about everything at the buffet. My eyes definitely got bigger than my stomach! If you're a fan of mouth-watering fried chicken, this is the spot for you. Plus, the prices are incredibly reasonable considering the wide array of options. It’s an absolute must-try if you’re in town!!!

Google
Such a great place. Best place we have ate at on our whole trip. The atmosphere is what I would expect, cozy inviting and welcoming. A place to take your family without worrying about noise kiddos will make. The food was the best part. So many southern dishes that are authentic and delicious. The price was amazing! Licked the plates clean!

Google
This is a buffet you serve yourself. Too noisy. Had an employee talking and laughing with people very loudly. He was friendly with everyone but just too loud and very disturbing. The food was not very tasty. The cabbage was overcooked and too salty, and the corn was bland, and the peach cobbler did not taste like peaches it tasted like nutmeg, way too much, but the fried chicken was delicious some of the best I've had in a long time. I tried several other things and was not pleased with them either. Just remember folks I'm just one person and everyone has their own taste but I was raised in SC and I know good Ole southern cooking and this isn't it, except for the chicken.

My coworker and I tried Simply Southern Smokehouse out so we could consider doing a holiday luncheon for the students here at Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. The food was really excellent. We catered our event for 120 people after that, and they even accommodated a special order. Everything on the catered buffet was excellent. Personally, I have never had cornbread that I liked so much. Cornbread but slightly bread like so no crumbling everywhere. Before it hits your mouth you smell a sweet honey smell. So great with some BBQ, fried homemade chicken strips, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese and corn. We will be eating there for lunch again and catering for our school for sure. Thank you to all the staff that made this a great experience and great food.

Google
My husband and I stopped here earlier today. The food and service were amazing. I absolutely loved the singing performed by one of the waitresses. I’m not sure of her name but her voice was so heavenly and soulful! The food was amazing especially the fish, baked beans, greens, and tartar sauce!! We will definitely be back!

Google
My FAVORITE please in MB! We come down from PA sometimes just to eat here lol. The food is always fresh and delicious. The mac and cheese is just like my mom makes. The sweet potatoes and coblers are to die for. Best fried chicken around. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Don't skip the sweet tea!

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise for our trip here to Myrtle Beach a great affordable home cooked southern BBQ buffet that didn't disappoint.

Yelp
This is a local hot spot and I can see why. A local told us about this buffet. You pay as you enter and it comes with full buffet, desserts and drinks! For lunch for two, it was $28 total. I ate the baked chicken, pulled pork, fried fish as meats. I ate the green beans, cabbage, Mac and cheese, chicken bog as sides. Every veggie and side was seasoned to perfection. Most buffets have bland sides, but this was not the case here. The Mac n cheese was likely the best I've ever eaten. I was so excited to get chicken bog. It was what I was hoping for. Seasoned and smoky. Delicious!! I ended with strawberry cobbler which was divine!! I will be back. This isn't a fancy place, just simply southern cooking at the finest!

Yelp
Ok. I'm more at 3 and 1/2 but I want the masses to check the place out so I went with 4. The price is right. Dinner for 2 was $34. That's what we would pay for lunch at most fast casual chains so it is quite reasonable for the selection and abundance of food options. The staff were friendly and we were treated to a beautiful song while we ate. You pay to get in the door and then you are free to eat and drink all you want. The buffet line moves quickly and the food was replenished long before the trays were low. The food was all decent but not inspiring. The ribs had a nice dry rub and were tender but a bit dry. The fried chicken was similar to a fresh piece from a fast food restaurant-lots of crunch and moist enough inside. There are lots of sides to enjoy. Don't miss the soft serve machine by the soda fountain.

Luv L.

Yelp
The lady upfront was very rude and nasty The food was unseasoned no flavor when I said something she was snappy and rude. I see why the place was so empty
google avatar

Missy M.

Yelp
Small quant family style buffet. They had EVERYTHING you could think of on the buffet and the food was pretty good. Fried catfish, bbq ribs, fried chicken, collard greens, Lima beans, mashed potatoes, the list goes on & on. I was impressed with everything. And the line to fix your plates got super long, I'm glad we beat the rush. Big groups were constantly coming in. For 2 of us it was roughly about $35-$38. Not too bad for all you can eat soul food.
google avatar

Yelp
Simply Southern Smokehouse is a must-visit in Myrtle Beach! Delicious Southern buffet with tender BBQ, crispy fried chicken, and comforting sides. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere make it feel like home. Don't miss the banana pudding!

Yelp
My second visit here within two weeks. Great food and a great price $15 including drink and dessert. Today was fried chicken and bbq , with potatoes, slaw, beans, cabbage, sweet potatoes, cobbler. We had service dog Nash with us and there was no problem. Everyone there was very nice to us thanked us for coming in.
google avatar

Cathy E.

Yelp
The food was very good for Buffett 15.00 a person including drink. The food was just like home cooking and the coleslaw was the best I ever had anywhere. They had multiple meats and nice vegetables such as tomatoes and okra, green beans, mashed potatoes, greens, and rices etc.
google avatar

Andy M.

Yelp
This place is simply amazing! Quick easy spot to grab lunch. Service is quick and on point. Food is really good. If you like home cooking this is the place for you. Will be back next trip to Myrtle Beach.
google avatar

Chastity R.

Yelp
Delicious stick-to-your-ribs Soul Food buffet with all the classics. My favorite was the fried chicken and the apple cobbler. I'm not usually a dessert person but that cobbler was soooo good! Service was kind and authentically Southern. I loved that. The place is roomy with high ceilings. The price is so reasonable and it already includes your beverage. I have nothing bad to say about this place. I loved it so much we went twice during our vacation. With allll the restaurants in the area, we chose to come back to this place. Wonderful! Oh! And they have a singing server! Teresa was great!
google avatar

Fioanna R.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem for sure! A buffet that is reasonably priced AND they don't charge a service fee if you use your debit card!! The fried chicken was fried to perfection. Even the breast was moist on the inside and flavorful and crunchy on the outside. The sides gave everything they ere supposed to give! The green beans just needed a little salt. We were even able to accompany a waiter in singing happy birthday to a young man turning 11, new school style.
google avatar

Cheryl D.

Yelp
If you're looking for Southern flavors with an all-you-care-to-eat menu, at a fantastic price, then this is your spot! From the time you walk in and are greeted by the cashier, to the friendly floor staff and cooks behind the buffet bar, you're made to feel right at home. The food is amazing and they pretty much have the basics covered as far as menu items. Collard greens, cabbage, mac n cheese, chicken, BBQ pork, fall-of-the-bone ribs, cobblers, pies, it's all there! The food is hot, delicious, and seasoned just right. Being that it is a buffet you are encouraged to use the plastic gloves that are next to the dishes. There are staff behind the buffet watching and constantly replenishing the dishes as needed. If you're lucky you will catch an impromptu performance by one of the two singing staff members. It's wonderful to hear!

Yelp
Loved the fried chicken. I got the tail end of the ribs. Very dry. When they brought out more, I did taste my husbands and they were less dry and a lot better. Great value for the money and most things were tasty. Welcoming and friendly service. Solid Southern comfort food.

Sherri H.

Yelp
Visiting Myrtle Beach, found Simply Southern Smokehouse on Yelp and decided to give it a try...so Happy we did! If you want "southern comfort food" this is the place to go! It's buffet style, all you can eat. All the food was delicious, along with the yummy desserts. Atmosphere was nice, casual and enjoyable. We would highly recommend this place to everyone!
google avatar

Owen C.

Yelp
Nice local place to get the exact options you desire from the buffet. The food is all good and the desert options are very yummy too. Every single worker inside is very nice and kind. This is a great place to come grab a meal and it's super comfortable in here too.

Yelp
This was the most disappointing meal on my recent trip to Coastal SC and NC. I'm guessing this is just in a touristy area, and visitors comes from all over the US where there may not be good country cooking, or any country cooking whatsoever. However, in Texas, there are numerous such places, and some of those are ayce, or buffet style. I felt the quality here was average at best. The word smokehouse seems to be a misnomer as I only saw 1 item on the buffet that was smoked the day we visited. Not sure it was even smoked onsite either. I saw a pile of wood at the rear of the building, but no sign of the smoker, and the wood pile was very old looking. If the restaurant smoked their meats, you typically smell the smoke in the air from the parking lot. Everything seemed basic to me, from the chicken n dumplings, which had very thin dumplings to the sub-par banana pudding. In summary, I don't see how this became a 4.5-star restaurant. For me, it was a 3 at best.
google avatar

Sabina L.

Yelp
Lucky for me the place wasn't too crowded. I was greeted by the friendly cashier who explained everything to me. The price was good for lunch. The food looked delicious and everything I had was hot. Mostly everything was seasoned great. The cabbage was so good and cooked just right. I really enjoyed the hamburger steak but the gravy lacked flavor. The macaroni and cheese was ok and the chicken n dumplings were bland. Even the hush puppies were delicious. The desserts were average but the soft serve ice cream was good. Great place to go for good southern food.

Linda H.

Yelp
The food was so good! Kid friendly. The staff sang a song, it was beautiful. We will be back.
google avatar

Barbara C.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. It is absolutely worth every penny and reasonably priced! The servers and workers were all friendly. It was a welcoming environment with a great selection of hot food! When we are back in town we will absolutely be back!

Arnicia H.

Yelp
We arrived around 12:30 on Tuesday. We walked in right before a baseball team! The price was about $15 pp including the drinks. Very affordable for all you can eat! We went straight to the buffet where they had a nice selection. Most of the food was very good! I really enjoyed the cabbage (best thing I ate!), chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. The tea was very good and very sweet! We would definitely go back on a future visit to Myrtle Beach! *While we were there, there was a baseball team eating as well. One of the men who worked there definitely livened it up by singing a couple of songs with them!*

Yelp
We come here every year on vacation, and my last review was 5 stars. This visit wasn't good, and I'm hoping it was just an off day. The macaroni and cheese noodles were very overdone. The fish didn't taste like much of anything. No seasoning in the breading. The chicken was extremely greasy. Either it wasn't drained properly before being put in the pan, or the grease wasn't hot enough when it was fried. It was just sitting in a puddle of oil. The greens weren't as good as usual. There wasn't cornbread like there usually is. The sweet potatoes were the only saving grace this visit. I'll give it another try in hopes it was just an off day.

Yelp
A friend of mine has been going to Simply Southern for years, we tried it this evening for dinner. Really good southern home cooking- everything you can think of. We got there 45 mins til closing (was worried that there wouldn't be much food left) they kept the food stocked. The atmosphere is dated but think people are going for the buffet. The price is really affordable AND they offer a military discount (special thank you!). Definitely recommend!

Jill T.

Yelp
Food was DELICIOUS and the staff was so friendly. This buffet is the perfect thing for a family (& refillable sweet tea along with the yummy eats was amazing!) Definitely would recommend.

Christie J.

Yelp
This place was amazing! We loved the food, the atmosphere, Mrs. Teresa's singing. I truly loved this place and wish we had one back home in East TN!
google avatar

Rick T.

Yelp
Got take out and it was amazing. The ribs had a nice taste to them. Mac was cheesy. Corn bread was alright. I prefer a jalapeño corn bread, this was a bit bland and dry.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Nice lunch for what is these days considered a reasonable price for a buffet. The bbq was more of what I have come to expect for South Carolina bbq: no smoky taste to the meat so the sauce(s) makes it bbq. The pulled pork tastes like it was cooked in the oven. Good selection of veggies to round out the meal. You pay first right inside the door and then go through the buffet line. The dining area is large and comfortably spaced out. Drinks and refills are diy. There will be at least one person circulating through the dining area to take away plates. Our person broke out into song at one point with a nice singing voice so I guess you could say you get dinner and a show. ;-)

Sam S.

Yelp
We were in myrtle beach from Toronto for a week. Looked up reviews and gave this place a shot. Everything was absolutely amazing, from the fried chicken, beans, slaw, ribs and to top it off the banana bread pudding!! Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Keri L.

Yelp
Not bad. Not sure where the name "Smokehouse" comes from but BBQ is perfect. I enjoyed everything that I ate. My husband's chicken breast was on the dry side but other than that not bad. If I were out this way again I might consider coming here for a lunch again.
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
The food is amazing, the service is incredible, and they keep the tables cleared and the place clean! Great place to eat if you're in the Myrtle Beach area!!

Yelp
The restaurant is a lovely house with a wrap around porch making you feel as if you are visiting someone's grandmas home. The service here is great. Everyone was warm and hospitable and the seating area is open and spacious. You have two options you can order the buffet or takeout We elected to do takeout and eat outside on the porch at the picnic tables . I was hoping for some fantastic southern eats and unfortunately it fell flat for me. Baled chicken - this was the best item flavorful well seasoned and moist Fried fish - well seasoned. There was too much debate on type of fish. Turns out it was catfish. Personally I thought it was swai Bbq ribs - we were split on this. I didn't like them. My piece was not tender enough I don't mind some bite but this wasn't it. The others their ribs were tender a d they likes how juicy it was. I tried a piece of theirs and it was but flavorless. It had a good smoke taste but bland. Their position was well if I took kt home added sauce and broiled foe 10 min it would be perfect. My position on bbq - the meat should be able to stand on its own without sauce. For me it didn't. Mac & cheese - ok String beans and collards didn't care for either Sweet potato casserole- too sweet for me Peach cobbler- too sweet and the topping had a off taste Banana pudding - freshly made would have preferred the pudding not to have been vanilla. It was acceptable Sweet tea - it was sweet. This is a personal thing if you like a southern sweet tea this is perfect. I don't so it was very sweet for me

Yelp
Food is good, but the AC blowers were running so high the food on my plate got cold! Finally, I tried covering it with a napkin to keep the food warm. It's great having an AC but not when it's blowing directly on your food. Just saying.!
google avatar

Scott A T.

Yelp
The food was good, smaller buffet than we thought when looking online. The service was friendly, staff professional. Family atmosphere, we did enjoy our meal. My issue floor could have been kept a little cleaner. There was one waitress that broke out in song and it was so wonderful. She has a beautiful voice. For a good meal at a good price I would fully recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
Best buffet in Myrtle Beach. Enough said. Friendly staff, great food. Nightly specials plus the best fried chicken in town every day.

Melissa C.

Yelp
The buffet had a great selection of delicious southern foods like Chicken and Dumplings, collard greens, and pulled pork barbecue. The singing waitress was an unexpected and wonderful surprise. The employees are quick to refill the ice when it runs out and make sure that you have everything that you need, even though it is buffet style.
google avatar

Brenda S.

Yelp
The best food ever very good soul food just like mom and dad use to make They even sing there and all you can eatyou can't beat the price for south Myrtle beach
google avatar

Tricia B.

Yelp
I didn't have as wonderful a experience this time. There was no fried fish on the buffet, but the fried chicken was delicious like the last time. Everything else was just mediocre and it was so cold in there that we couldn't really enjoy our meal. My mashed potatoes and gravy was hot when I picked it up from the buffet, but as soon as I sat down, it was cold because it was cool in there and they had all the fans going. It was not pleasant and I probably won't go back. Service was friendly.

D H.

Yelp
Good veggies but meats, bread, and desserts were not good. Lima beans, greens, cabbage were great - southern good choices. Meats- not sure if we caught them on a bad day or what. Fried chicken and ribs were old and dried out. Outside smells great like a "smokehouse" should but fried chicken and ribs were disappointing. Maybe they were cooking for the next day to get the smell because nothing inside had any "smokehouse" taste or appeal. Breads- sliced bunny bread and cornbread. Ok but cornbread wasn't tasty at all. Ho-hum taste. Cornbread should be awesome at a "southern smokehouse". Desserts- not tasty banana puddling, ok peach cobbler, and ok vanilla soft serve ice cream. Not much creative or tasty options. Very nice folks so hate to rate poorly. Food was disappointing- southern smokehouse is a great name but food fell short today. Again, maybe we caught them on a bad day because rating was 4.3...

Robis D.

Yelp
Best buffet food I ever had! Waitress can sing too! Great service. Price for BBQ was very fair.
google avatar

Miguel A.

Yelp
You walk in and they greet you and you pay to get in and eat. They have a lot of great food. The place is clean and the waitress is very attentive and cleans up dirty plates. They have a fountain machine for your drinks and sweet tea. I wasn't a fan of there mashed potatoes but everything else was great. Great singing from the older waitresses. Hopefully if you stop by you get the chance to hear her voice it amazing.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Simply Southern Smokehouse is a little bit of a misnomer. You'd think it's a bbq restaurant but it's really an all you can eat buffet that serves "down home cooking". The kind your mother made for dinner every night. I had lunch there last week because I was looking for something other than seafood which is so abundant in the MB area. The restaurant is in its own standalone building with its own parking lot. Wrapped with a big porch you walk in and pay and then proceed down the serve yourself buffet line. They had several vegetables to choose from along with rice and mashed potatoes. The proteins consisted of baked chicken fried chicken, fried fish, etc. along with desserts of banana pudding and peach and apple cobblers. After filling my plate and visiting the self serve drink station, it was easy finding a seat in the large dining room that had booths and tables. All of the food was very good taste wise. I ended up trying most of the items on the buffet by my second visit and there wasn't anything I didn't like. I especially remember the banana pudding. Also during the meal one of the singing busboys who work here came by to welcome me and clear my table after finishing. He also led the diners in a Happy Birthday singing for another diner. Nothing fancy here just good food at very reasonable prices. The food was easily a 4 but the low cost to eat here made this a 5 star experience for me. Lunch is $12 and dinner is $15 both before your drink. Remember it's an AYCE too. How can I not rate it a 5? I understand why this eatery is so popular and has such high Yelp reviews. I agree. P.S. On the door is posted a 3.5% surcharge for credit card charges. All other forms of payment are regular price. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Robert L.

Yelp
Food was a disappointment from what it was. Fried chicken was among the best around, not any more. Sides not worth a comment. Salt & pepper offered in little packets spoiled by moisture. Soup kitchen like atmosphere.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
What an amazing find. The excellent reviews was enough for us to give it a try and boy are we glad we did. This joint may be buffet style but it's nothing like a buffet at all. The food is excellent. The workers are awesome and friendly. Come hungry because you will want to eat it all and there is plenty to eat. Our favorite... fired chicken, mashed potatoes, pork skins and lemon cobbler. It's hard to pick a favorite we loved it all! Just go. You won't regret it.
google avatar

Wayne D.

Yelp
The place is very rustic, not exactly an ambience place. Food was pretty good. I would come back again.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
We were here June 3rd of 2024 the price of the buffet was a reasonable $16.00. This included our drink. The food was delicious. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. I also had the mashed potatoes with gravy, Lima beans, cabbage, cornbread, biscuit, fried chicken and peach cobbler for dessert.
google avatar

Joslyn N.

Yelp
Service: customer service was great. We had a party of 15 and they quickly accommodated us. Atmosphere: The restaurant reminds me of an old barn and is definitely family style. A variety of seating is available. They also have a singer come out and belt songs, and she has a beautiful voice. Food: Unfortunately, this is where this place fell flat for me. Nothing was seasoned well except the fish. This place seems to masquerade as a soul food restaurant but there was no soul in our food. I was so disappointed because I was really hoping for some down home cooking with the necessary seasonings and flavors. Also, the peach cobbler tasted floury.

Kendall C.

Yelp
The food was good. The service was great. The price was reasonable. The restaurant was tired looking.
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
A worker broke out in gospel singing while the whole place was trying to eat- I guess if you're into that type of thing Food quality reminded me of Golden Corral
google avatar

Gavin P.

Yelp
Simply cannot beat the price and the ambiance was simply amazing. The meat was amazing and sides were too tier.

Mariza ..

Yelp
The food was delicious. It's not a very large buffet, but everything they had out was so delicious. It definitely tasted like home recipes and the whole family really enjoyed it.
