Sinchao Rice Shoppe

"A spinoff of Old & New Taiwanese Cuisine in Kaohsiung, the name is a homophone for ‘new fried rice’ which is a menu staple here. Try shrimp fried rice with grated bottarga – the bright pink rice is soaked in dragon fruit juice and order a wittily named cocktail or ice-brewed chrysanthemum tea to go with it. The wood-rich décor is inspired by Chinatown diners circa 1920s in the U.S., punctuated by dark green velvet seats and ochre banquettes." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent place for Taiwanese food. Everything is nicely presented which adds to the overall experience. Plates are shareable so 4-6 people are probably best. However 2 people can enjoy a feat meal with 2-3 dishes

Really enjoyed my meal here. There are quite busy so they are strict with the time limits, but other than that I would be very happy to return. Some modern twists on familiar flavors and high quality ingredients. The beef stirfry had a deep wok-hey flavor that lingered on my palate even hours later. Service was a bit rushed, but in line with the time limit situation I suppose. Will definitely be back to try more dishes.

Perfect ambience for a quiet filling meal with 2 or 3 people. Elegantly furnished more like a club than a Chinese food place, a wide range of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages are served. Being familiar with their traditional Taiwan old and new restaurants, their menu is a big departure from their roots. However, despite the modern take, the deliciousness is still there😊 The duck leg was really good, and so was the squid. The fried pork chop rice yummy too albeit a little greasier than expected.

Edit: Back for a second time in our one week vacation and we still enjoyed the food very much. The smoked cuttlefish is really delicious. ** Delicious meal and nice cocktail - bamboo shoots with pork and pollack roe fried rice with scallops were especially good. Great ambience and service too.

The smoked squid is the highlight—fragrant and incredibly delicious. Photos don’t do it justice, and videos can’t capture the full experience. We also ordered the lobster fried rice, which must be reserved in advance—don’t forget! The scallop with dragon fruit sauce was surprisingly tasty as well. Wi-Fi can be weak at times, and it may get a bit noisy, but overall the food is highly recommended. A great spot for international tourists too!

The food was overall good and we enjoyed our time here. Perhaps the most disappointing dish was the rice, which was a bit one dimensional and dry. The scallops were just wrong - cold inside and warm-ish outside. Best part was the shrimp pancake although everything else was quite tasty. The restaurant was busy and despite we had a reservation we had to wait few minutes to be seated. The interior were cool and cozy and the service was attentive.

Very delicious Taiwanese food with a modern twist and some bells and whistles. Good quality, flavours and service by staff. Ambience is nice too, and there’s English menu. The prawn cake was insanely delicious!!!

Recommended by a friend, we tried the tomato, beef fried rice and the duck fry rice (the name is way fancier than this). The tomato is very very well made, is thinly sliced tomato arranged in flower shape, top with sour plump, vinegar and Some good sos. Beef was perfectly cooked, the fry rice is very good as well, it just lacked some “wok hei”. The duck meat rice is also good but not the best of the best. Environment and service was top notch. It is a Michelin stared restaurant with 5-star hotel service, so expect a 5 star price.
