Lively karaoke bar offering private rooms & pitchers of beer in a downtown brick building.
"Bring a buddy with you to the West Village location of this international chain. They do two-person combos for around $50, which come with an appetizer, two entrees, a dessert, and two beverages. It’s a good deal for some decent renditions of HK food—we especially like the fried shumai, slippery eggs with Malaysian curry chicken, and french toast covered in ovaltine powder. The place sort of looks like a mini cafeteria, with an open kitchen and iPad stands, but you can still have a cute date or meet-up here, with adorable bear-shaped ice cubes and Pepto-pink strawberry toast. "Starts At: $50/hour for up to 5 people Up a flight of stairs on the most hectic stretch of St. Marks, Sing Sing is, appropriately, one of the least fancy options on this list. The cash-only bar up front has brick walls, a disco ball, and a karaoke setup for when you want to pop in and perform a quick number, but you might as well get a room. At $10 per person, they’re cheap enough, and, while there aren't many amenities—like food and hard liquor—the song selection is reasonably extensive. They might not have the SpongeBob theme song, but they do have Sabrina Carpenter." - bryan kim, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick
"Sing Sing is the karaoke spot that St. Marks deserves, and we say that with zero disrespect. Located above a Korean fried chicken place, it’s just a tad divey, with a little cash-only bar up front where you can stand with a crowd and sing communal karaoke. There are also 15 private rooms in the back, which can fit anywhere between five and 40 people, which cost $10 per person by the hour. Those rooms aren’t anything special, but they do have disco balls that provide the plain brick walls a little pizazz. In terms of song selection, expect all your major hits from popular artists, even the newer ones that just dropped. Keep in mind, you can pay with a card if you sign up for a room." - Bryan Kim
"It’s not an overstatement to say that karaoke in the East Village starts and ends with Sing Sing. The bar’s original St. Mark’s location invites all kinds, from the professionally capable to the drunk and exuberant, where someone may follow up a rendition of Fleetwood Mac with Marilyn Manson. Look out for notable New Yorkers like Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield jamming out in the infectiously fun public singing space. Meanwhile, things are toned down at the punky Alphabet City offshoot, which offers a number of private booths that live up to their high rates with an unbeatable songbook." - Paul Schrodt
