Yelp
Sing Yee is a casual family owned restaurant where you come here for congee, noodles, comfort Chinese food. The restaurant is clean, bright and simple. Located in Continental Plaza on the far side facing Cambie Road, Sing Yee plays neighbours with Deer Garden Signature, Gyo-O, Pearl Castle and Yuu Japanese Tapas.
Service is prompt (sometimes a little weird) and the food arrives quickly. I found myself here on most lunch hours for a bowl of congee and some salt and pepper deep fried tofu.
Congee with Fish Slices
Creamy, smooth and velvety. It is not watery nor burnt. It always like to get their watercress with mince dace fish paste , fresh fish slices or salted pork with century egg.
Salt and Pepper Deep Fried Tofu
Can be tricky at times, some restaurants uses chili paste and toss it a few times and tofu is soggy. Sing Yee is crispy with minced garlic, jalapenos, onions and salt and pepper.
Dry Beef Pan Fried Rice Noodles
Unlike some places that tend to drown this traditionally comfort dish in oil, Sing Yee does it pretty well. It is easy on the oil, yet there is a lot of heat from the wok.
Daily Special Veggies - Baby Bok Choy
Fresh. Lightly seasoned with salt and garlic.
Beef Brisket with Noodles
This was bit of a let down. The flavours weren't all there and the sauce was rather thin. When mixed with the soup it is very bland. The brisket itself was somewhat dry and not as tender as I'd like.
Singapore Spicy Rice Noodles
A good spicy curry flavored dry tossed rice vermicelli with a medley of shrimps, bells peppers, bbq pork etc.
This restaurant also offers seafood and other chef specialty dishes in addition to mixed-combo sets for dinner. Sometimes it's the simplest food that comforts you and hits the spot.
Salt and Pepper Eggplant
Most people won't think of ordering eggplants deep fried and tossed in S&P, but it is actually very tasty. The juiciness and the freshness of the eggplant balances the heat of the S&P. Crunchy exterior and a soft center.
Braised Fatty Pork Belly
Tender and juicy soaked in all the natural goodness of pickled vegetables, five spice, soy, rice wine and other marinating sauces.
