Singing Bamboo Chinese Restaurant - Review - West Palm Beach - Miami - The Infatuation

"Singing Bamboo has been around for 40 years. And you can tell. The brown plastic tablecloths that drape the round tables at this Chinese restaurant are straight out of the ‘80s.  But ambiance isn’t why you’re here. In a city where good Chinese food is hard to find, Singing Bamboo has some very good dishes. A lot of folks like this place for takeout. And while their general tso’s chicken is solid, and their egg rolls are bigger than a tactical flashlight, you should pop in with a group and try their dim sum. That’s what Singing Bamboo does best. Food Rundown Steamed Pork Dumplings The wrapper holds all the juicy pork and shrimp tighter than staticky Saran. The sui mai are springy, small enough to pop in your mouth, and burst like little water balloons. PlayMute video credit: Virginia Otazo Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings We wish there was more soup in these soup dumplings. They’re fine, but save your stomach’s real estate for better dim sum dishes. PlayMute video credit: Virginia Otazo Spring Rolls The egg rolls here are great, but the spring rolls are even better. They’re crispy, flaky, and filled with tender chicken and vegetables. But despite their size, they’re more delicate than a toddler’s feelings. So eat carefully. PlayMute video credit: Virginia Otazo Steamed Roasted Pork Buns Always order the pork buns at Singing Bamboo. Like so many dishes on the menu, they’re huge. These fluffy monsters are filled with so much sweet roasted pork, they look like they exploded in the steamer. PlayMute video credit: Virginia Otazo" - Virginia Otazo

The food is excellent — generous portions, great flavors, and fair prices. The atmosphere and decor, however, could really use some improvement. The place feels quite dark and outdated, a bit depressing honestly. I only went because my daughter already knew it; otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have stopped by. Service was friendly, but about 10 minutes before closing they started giving those “time to leave” looks — a bit rude, but oh well.

Google
It’s the most authentic Chinese restaurant in the area in my opinion. I didn’t expect it would be so uniquely delicious. Having been to Chinatown in NYC, this one can definitely compete with the ones up there. The food was delicious. The service was quick. The staff was friendly. The price was very reasonable.

Google
Maybe it was the hunger from the long drive, but just like people say, 'Hunger is the best source.' the food tasted amazing. I especially love mixing rice with clams in black bean souce, and that dish was truly outstanding. Overall, the taste far surpassed my expectations.

Google
Very quick and friendly service. The food came out within 15 minutes and everything was delicious. The price for everything was surprisingly very reasonable which these days is hard to find. The quality of the food was excellent and very authentic tasting

Really enjoyed our time dining with them. It’s not your typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. If you love dim sum, this is a good place to visit. We ordered a spread from bao buns, dumplings, soup, chicken feet, fried rice and an entree: sweet and sour pork, all came out to be delicious. Serving size and the price are very reasonable, great for sharing. Also, great servers. We have not eaten lunch when we came so we were very hungry and our server let us know that the food we got will be more than enough to accommodate our hungry tummies. She told us that we can hold on to the menu and just let her know if we want to order more. We ended up ordering sesame balls and additional bao buns to go!

Google
What an experience, probably the most authentic tasting restaurant in the area. All of the dishes were on point, the intestines, the lobster, pork, duck all were amazing and flavorful. If you want to have a good meal, go here, you won't go wrong. The staff is extremely friendly as well. You'll have an all round meal.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Dim Sum Dream! This dim sum spot absolutely stole my heart (and apparently, my leftovers—but in the best way possible 😂). From the moment we walked in, the decor had us smiling—moody lighting, cozy vibes, and adorable little touches that made the place feel both stylish and welcoming. The food? AMAZING. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can tell the kitchen puts real love into their dishes. But the real star of the show? The chef—a sweet, hilarious older Asian man who came out to greet us. He cracked jokes, made us laugh till we cried, and totally charmed the entire table. He even joked about stealing my leftovers, saying “This my dinner now,” before boxing them up with a wink and sending us on our way. 💀💕 If you want a place that serves top-tier food and leaves you grinning from ear to ear, this is it. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
One of the more authentic Chinese food place though decor is rather basic. We have been here several times for dim sum. Service is always efficient and food great. If you enjoy good food despite ambience, do check out this place!

Yelp
Hankering for a decent Chinese meal, this former Londoner was dreaming of SoHo's Lee Ho Fook after listening to Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London"... My go to benchmarks were met - hot & sour soup and Singapore rice noodles were top notch Great service in what is a long established local gem - I suspect the 2nd generation was serving us The environment was cool - a booth for us but a larger open area with the large round tables and Lazy Susans for the classic family style Chinese dining experience Dim Sum is something I want to go back for... If You Know, You Know

Yelp
I loved the amazing food, kind and nice waitresses, and very relaxing and happy!!! We had scallion pancakes, egg custard buns, bbq pork buns, thousand egg congee, turnip cakes, and stuffed sticky rice (WAAAAY too much food for 2). My favorite was egg custard bun, because it was sweet and desserty and so flavorful.

Yelp
Located on the West side of Military Trail, this is an Asian Cuisine stop you won't want to miss! Plenty of parking in the strip center. We were greeted by the hostess and walked over to a nice table. Our server came over right and took our drink request and offered to answer any questions as we looked over the large menu. They also have a Dim Sum menu on request. We ordered from the Dim Sum menu. The Hot and Sour Soup was very good, our server brought over a dish of hot oil in case I wanted hotter ... it was just the right heat level for me. We shared some Scallion pancakes, Turnip cakes and Barbecue Pork buns. A well lighted and welcoming interior, this is a nice family restaurant with great food.

Yelp
We had a really good dinner here. We were greeted immediately on entering and seated right away also. Service throughout was prompt and friendly. Inside is clean and bright. After reviewing the regular menu, we noticed that it said to request the dim sum menu, if interested, so we did. We started out with soup. I had their wonton soup, and the bowl was brimful of thin pork strips and egg strips along with stuffed won tons and scallions. The broth was tasty -- not too salty. My husband got their hot n sour soup. He said the flavor was good, but he usually likes more "stuff" in his soup, so he added a bunch of crunchy noodles. We filled up on soup, so we just decided to order a few dim sum items to share. They give you a dim sum menu list to mark your order on and a sheet with photos of each item. We got their scallion pancakes which were served fried hot off the stove along with some hoisin sauce for dipping. They were flat, thin and crispy and very good -- and we wound up taking half the order home. We also had one of our favorites -- turnip cake. This isn't really made of turnip but is made from a Chinese radish and rice flour. It is pan fried, so it has a golden-brown crust-like layer on the outside and a soft center. There are sometimes bits of pork in it for extra flavor. An acquired taste that I have grown to love. In addition to those two items, we got an order of steamed BBQ pork buns. These are fat, white, round sweet dough breaded balls with sauced BBQ pork inside. They remind me of my childhood when my dad used to get these for my brother and me. The dim sum list is long and there are quite a few other items I would like to try. Plus, the regular menu has a number of standards and favorites, as well. We are definitely coming back to this restaurant!

Yelp
We came here for dinner with the family. The place looks like a normal Chinese restaurant. Dark, gloomy, wooden chairs that almost break when you lean back. We got our noodle crackers with mustard and duck sauce. Noodles were good. Warm and crunchy but only 1 basket for 5 of us. Then we ordered rib and dumplings appetizer. Ribs came with 6. They were good. Dumplings were thick. Wonton soup was good. Then we ordered lemon chicken, general Taos chicken, garlic egg plant, shrimp with lobster sauce, and chow fun beef noodle. Everything was good. Solid. Best I've had no. Solid yeah. You can tell the lemon chicken was freshly made. General Taos was good not spicy. They now charge 3 dollars for tea. So we didn't get it. Dessert was ice cream. Overall solid 4 experience.

Craig K.

Yelp
I came for dinner rather than their excellent dim sum for lunch. I ordered the Peking Duck which is my favorite of all Chinese food. It was so over cooked and the pancakes were just as dry. I have had Peking Duck throughout the US and Asia. This was the worst I have ever had.

Yelp
This place has been around since I've moved to west palm beach 25 years ago. I used to love their general tso's chicken and pork lomein. Even back then they were pricey but really worth it. Now.... Not so much. I ordered the same today and the lomein was dry and tasteless, the general tso's chicken was a standout. Full of flavor and mostly chicken with little breading. Today this is the same generals chicken you get at any random Chinese takeout. Not worth the $24 price tag. Avoid this place. It's simply not what it used to be.

Yelp
Best Asian restaurants are rated 2.5-3.5, it's true. Decent dimsum place in middle of nowhere (for Asian culture anyway). They made our dimsum to order. All were decent, not at 'flushing ny' levels but really not bad. $2 for pot of tea, and everything is just a little more. About 100 for family of 4, not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Yelp
This is one of the nicer Chinese restaurants with delicious dishes. There are always Chinese people here, along with others. They are kind up front, seat you usually right away, and have dim sum menu + normal Chinese menu. This is a place where you bring your large family and they happily seat you. Some tables have lazy Susan's spinning in the middle! We have been back 3x now and will continue to. Food is fresh and delicious. Young Chow Fried Rice Steamed Pork Buns Pork Pan Fried Dumplings Shanghai Soup Dumplings Beef Paste Pork Chops Beef Pan Fried Noodles

Yelp
Ordered the dim sum platter, general cho chicken, human beef, roast pork fried rice all for 75.00 for take out ordered it at 4:15 pm. Not a soul in the place. This food was inedible, you get better Chinese food from the frozen food department in Publix. This place ( back in the day was fabulous) the quality of ingredients are horrific. Both my boyfriend couldn't gag this down. Stay far away

Yelp
This is my go to Dim Sum if I'm in the area of WPB east. The dim sum and food is always good. The service is always prompt. However, they remind me of up north Chinatown service. Rushy rush, talk and move fast. No time to think or read the menu. It comes off rude and obnoxious. I've been coming to this restaurant since I was like 16 so I just ignore the staff when they get like this as I believe it's a cultural thing. As for the restaurant ambiance, it is your typical Chinese restaurant older establishment. Nothing to rave about. It really needs a facelift for sure. The customers who come here are ones like myself who are regular's. The food is great and more authentic than most Chinese Restaurant in the area. Although it has been very slow every time I've come. Slower meaning it's been pretty empty. The owner himself is getting older. I don't see this place being open for much longer. Great dishes are: Fried dim sum shrimp balls, shrimp rice paste, sate squid, house lo mein, Mongolian Beef, and bean curd skin.

Yelp
Very good authentic Chinese restaurant in West Palm Beach. The plaza doesn't look like much and I would be scared to be in this area in the dark, but this place was amazing. They even have a Chinese menu. Food came out quickly and burning hot. Everything was so fresh and the beef chow fun is the very best I've ever had. Dim sum portions are large so even though you get less per plate, the size of each are large. Prices are pretty average for dim sum and it's served all day. Service was good and staff were pleasant. I can't wait to come back and try more.
google avatar

Boon C.

Yelp
It is about 3.5 stars. Not yet 4 stars. The restaurant is locate in Military's Trails. Food is just average. Price is a bit high range. They have combo dim sum selections. You can pick five pieces and become one dish. It is great for only one person who come to eat with many choices. We have the combo of pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings, mix shrimps dumplings, fried dumplings and shark fin dumplings. We also add a dish with stuffed eggplant. Other than dim sum, we have the traditional Chinese Yi Mien. This is fried noodles then add sauce. Service is good since there are not much of customers. All attention come to our table.

Yelp
As someone who grew up eating Chinese food it's difficult finding decent restaurants. Singing Bamboo has been a constant for me since moving to West Palm. Whether delivery or takeout. The food is always prepared fresh and timely. I usually start with a wonton soup to soothe the soul. Salty broth with pork dumplings is so comforting. They always make a lovely sweet green tea. Just the right amount of sugar. I also love the orange Szechuan beef. I always order it hot and spicy because the peppers add so much more flavor to the sweet and tangy beef. The house fried rice and house lo main are the best with a combination of beef, chicken, shrimp and roast pork. Portions are shareable and the food is so delicious you will want seconds!

Yelp
I'm honestly baffled by the low reviews, this place was fantastic! At first, I was hesitant because of the ratings, but my grandfather discovered it in a Chinese newspaper, so we decided to give it a shot. As New Yorkers who have spent generations exploring Chinatown in search of authentic Chinese food, we can confidently say we've found our new go-to spot. The food was incredibly fresh, served piping hot, and bursting with delicious flavor. The crisp on the duck and general tso chicken was something we all will be thinking about for a very long time. The staff was warm and attentive, and the owner was not only friendly but also engaging. We had a great conversation about authentic Chinese dishes, and he even promised to make us some dishes special on our next visit, preparing the dishes just the way he would order them. Our bellies were full, and we're already looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu. Even writing this the next day, we don't feel our usually sluggish selves after Chinese food, so they probably do not use a lot of MSG. If you're looking for genuine, high-quality Chinese cuisine, this is the place!

Yelp
Great food and excellent service. Recommend the dim sum. Been going for years and will continue to go.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this random dim sum restaurant we came across in WPB. The inside is clean and neat. The staff was friendly. This is not the typical push cart service dim sum but they do offer it all day. It's made fresh from the kitchen and comes out piping hot. My husband and I actually prefer it this way. We ordered some basics like shu mai and turnip cake. Both tasted home made and delicious. Plenty of meat and shrimp in the stuffing. The taro dumpling was well fried and not super oily. The steamed tripe was the oily disappointment. There was too much cornstarch in the sauce, I wasn't a fan of the gooeyness. Willing to go back and try some of their signature dishes.

Eddie D.

Yelp
The food is great they have dim sum my favorite and great wonton soup for 2 I go there every new years day the place is a little old but nice
google avatar

Fay C.

Yelp
Good spot for weekly dim sum. Servers are friendly and quick. Food is pretty consistent too. Try the beef chow fun. It won't disappoint! One suggestion tho, replace the chewy shrimp balls with the crispy wonton deep fried shrimp balls.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday. I already knew ahead of time what I was ordering. I ordered a large order of ribs and the 2.5 lb lobster in black bean sauce. The waitress took all our orders, served us soup and apps. That was delicious. On my way to wash my hands the waitress tells me the manager just sold the 2.5lb lobster to someone else. I was in that restaurant and ordered it 30 mins before and this manager sold it out from under me to someone who just walked in. No other lobsters available. Personally I would've walked out, but my family was already being served their dinners. I now had to choose something else and watch them eat while I waited for food. Best part, when we left I complained to the manager and her response was, you don't need to wait for your birthday to eat lobster. Not even an apology or a recognition that she ruined my birthday. I will never go their again.

Yelp
Went to singing bamboo about two weekends ago with my sister and boyfriend for dim sum. We were so pleased. I am vegan and was able to get the steamed vegetable dumplings, hot cabbage salad, and soy sauce fried noodles substitute the egg noodles for rice noodles. My sister and boyfriend tired a variety of other dumplings. We liked every single thing we ordered. I can't wait to come again. I recommend trying the dim sum.

Jim M.

Yelp
Enjoyable but not refined. Most of the dim sum were clearly commercial and merely steamed out of the freezer. The fresh dishes were tasty. Service was sluggish. Palm Beach County has little legitimate Chinese food and here at least a modicum of effort is made. I would welcome more authentic dishes as someone who regularly goes out to China. The vibe is ok but the plastic table clothes are poorly wiped down and can be sticky. It is not fancy at all.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
So the four stars is mostly due to amazing variety of authentic dishes. I was wowed on my first visit, mostly by foods I don't eat like tripe and chicken feet. The dumplings weren't mind blowing but I am obsessed with soup dumplings and these were just ok. The star of the show is both varieties of fried rice. And they are generous with the sauces -- chili crunch, hot mustard, duck sauce, soy sauce. I thought the general tsos chicken, hunan beef were just ok. I did like the house noodles. Anything in black bean sauce is good. Service is fine. Beer is cold. Lots of room.

Yelp
We discovered this place on Yelp when Got Rice was closed (on Tuesdays). What a great find!!!!! The restaurant is clean, dining with tablecloths and staff is friendly and attentive. We had lunch which was a roast pork noodle soup (wonderful and delicious) and an order of BBQ boneless roast pork which was tender, plentiful and not covered with the typical red gooey sauce. It was truly a unique way of enjoying this dish. We can't wait to come back for dinner.

Yelp
I found the Holy Grail. A great Chinese restaurant in South Florida. We stopped a two other Chinese joints that were take out types. My friend and I de used since we went this far we should try one more place. West Palm isn't know for Chinese food since everyone always complains that there isn't and good places in the area. I don't seek it that much since my wife doesn't dig the Chinese food vibe but I like it. They had the awesome Singing Bamboo soup which really fresh ingredients and tasty pork and chicken. I good have this for lunch and enough left over for dinner. Steamed dumplings were good but not hot enough. Could be our fault since we weren't finished with the soup yet. Chow Fon was very good. Moo Shoo pork was very nice. The wraps were a little dry but served their purpose. Had a beer with meal and left full, satisfied and carrying 2 leftover bags for home. I'm definitely going back and tell every New Yawker that there is a g-d and the name is Singing Bamboo. It's an hour and a half and I'm not hungry yet so kick that old saying out the window. Go there and leave happy.

Cheryl Lynn B.

Yelp
The food is delicious We dined early on a Sunday evening so that we wouldn't have to wait for a table. After 6:30 there was a substantial wait to be seated. Would definitely eat there again, but always before 6:30 if on a weekend.
google avatar

Yelp
I haven't been here in almost a year. It definitely wasn't as good as I remember. I ordered the crab Rangoon appetizer and the boneless spareribs combo dinner. The total was around $30. The crab Rangoon was decent. The boneless spareribs were really dry. A few weren't. At least I had duck sauce to dip them in. The eggroll was good. Not very greasy. The fried rice was also dry. It was just rice with peas and carrots. Not very flavorful at all. I was disappointed because the quality has definitely gone down.

Yelp
This restaurant experience was so amazing. I truly enjoyed eating here. It was my first visit. The dim sum shrimp dumplings were my favorite. I will definitely returned. Service was very professional and pleasant. The environment was very welcoming! This is very important to me and they nailed it!

Jeffrey H.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese menu is recommended. Salty streamed chicken and flounder are great. Service is best at earlier hours. Traditional ambiance.
google avatar

Brad M.

Yelp
Terrific food in a very busy Christmas Night. Place was understaffed and doing the best they could but waiting was chaos and service slow. I'd happily go back for the food in a less crazy non-holiday night. Dim sum was great and dishes flavorful and done right. Bbq ribs were meaty

Lenore B.

Yelp

Yelp
This is about as authentic as you get around here. It has been here for over 20 years. Same owner. The tables and chairs are a little worn but the food is top notch. I highly recommend them. always good fast and friendly service. the cocktails are spot on as well..

Cory K.

Yelp
Singing Bamboo never disappoints! One of the few places around with so many Dim Sum options. Staff is always friendly. Highly recommend

Yelp
if you're looking for dim sum or authentic chinese food in the west palm area, this here is as good as it gets! for south florida in general, the dim sum here is one of the few at the top of the list. my parents are from hong kong, and it has their seal of approval. you can tell the food here is well done because the meats are juicy and tender, the buns are soft and light, and the rice pastes aren't too thick. the beef siu mai is meatier and larger than what i'm used to, and the chicken feet meat falls off the bone easier than most chicken feet i've had. the tripe here might be my favorite--it's so flavorful. honorable mention goes to the runny yolk custard buns because they're so hard to find, especially really well-made ones. i know my review is probably one that only other chinese americans or "adventurous" foodies might appreciate, but hey, don't get discouraged--you can start with the steamed bbq pork buns and lo mein noodles, which are just as great options!

Donald B.

Yelp
decent wonton soup. stale noodles -- but they are free shrimp dumplings very adequate. Chicken with Chinese broccoli was meh, at least they had Chinese broccoli. Asked for a garlic and oil sauce but got a brown sauce. Waitress wanted our order as soon as she handed us menus. Zero personality and all business. Normal for this type of place. Location is a very sketchy strip center. Decor is circa 1970's motor lodge. A lot of brown and formica. This is decent Chinese food for Florida. Better than the takeout only places. where the menu is in English and Spanish. SB would be a two star at best in NY, Philly, San Fran, or any other city with a Chinatown. But there's no competition.
google avatar

Cass S.

Yelp
The food isn't fresh and very inconsistent. The service is fine while dining but pick up has been rude quite a few times. Not going back. Health dept has had them listed.

Yelp
Pretty good....service was quick and food was decent....dim sum was decent alsoI would go again if in area......

Yelp
Best Chinese food around! The General Tso's shrimp I had today was fabulous! Big, fat shrimp, perfectly cooked, crispy with a delicious sauce. And the restaurant has wonderful service, along with a very nice atmosphere. Big - perfect for a large family gathering or a quiet dinner for two. Love it!

Yelp
After church we were craving for Dimsum and this was the closest. Was not disappointed. Ordered seafood pan fried noodles, shrimp dumpling, fried chives dumplings, pork spare ribs, chicken feet, egg custard, stuffed eggplant, and 2 more dimsum. Quite popular in the area.
google avatar

Jaclyn S.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 5 stars but I had to take a couple off because the Chinese broccoli was sitting in a pool of water and wasn't washed well. It was really sandy/ dirty. The general tsaos chicken was over cooked and very dry as well. For the dim sum, the shrimp paste rolls were not cooked all the way and were thick and gooey on the inside. However, the shrimp dumplings (har gao) were absolutely amazing and so were the fried shrimp balls. Those 2 items were delicious and I would get again!! Could eat those everyday!!
google avatar

Alexi Y.

Yelp
This is one of the few authentic Chinese restaurants in this area. I wanted some pan fried noodles and maybe some Dim Sum. Service was very good. Quick to get our order, quick to deliver. However, it's the little things that make it a bit annoying. For example, I have to request rice. What's that about? They should ask if anything. For tea, she asked if it was for one or two. Not for the table?? Authentic Chinese restaurants don't have these quirks. My favorites are in Pembroke Pines. Seafood Pan Fried Noodles had broccoli, squid slices, shrimp and scallops. Needed a lot more sauce. Shrimp dumplings were excellent. Peking Pork Chops.... not quite to detail. I want thin, crispy and sticky sauce. Anyway, overall, it was good.

Robert L.

Yelp
Ordered online, the page said nothing about a second party (beyond menu). my account was debited. When I arrived to pick up order they never heard of me. Management was rude and ornery--I was annoyed. Called beyond menu, they claimed they sent fax. No one takes responsibility. Never again Singing Bamboo. Folks, be sure you're ordering from the restaurant and NOT a second party in Illinois.
google avatar

Scot S.

Yelp
If your looking for Chinese food that rivals any New York spot this is the place to go to. They have one of the best dim sum menus around. It sort of reminds me of prince street in queens. The staff is very attentive and the owner will always crack a joke and make you feel like you have been coming here for years. Is it the most posh place in WPB? NO IT IS NOT and I'm glad for that. I lived in the WOB area for years but had to relocate due to work to the west coast of Florida. But when I am in town i order a bunch of trays of food (Dim Sum) and they are good enough to have it all frozen and still uncooked so I can steam it when I go home and put some in the freezer vacuum packed. I TOTALY recommend coming here. while you are there order yourself a Zombie from the bar (just make sure you have someone else drive you home.

Civil Man B.

Yelp
the food is okay but the service sucks. I mean it was New Year's Eve but I would do togo rather than sit down

Yelp
Finally: A good, "Northern-style Chinese restaurant!" The assorted dim sum were all tasty and well-prepared. The soups were rich. All of our main dishes were great - tasty and full of flavor. The menu is both broad and deep. The honey-shrimp were perfect; the sauce was not thick or "glumpy." The Singapore Noodles were well seasoned. Everything was excellent!
