Sip N Chat Cocktail Lounge

I visited this restaurant yesterday and it was a pleasure. Located in my neighborhood “Little Haiti” and is located on Ave D. This spot is soooo chilled, like the vibes is low key lit. The atmosphere is very vibey, sexy and cozy asl and the restaurant is nicely dimmed plus there’s mood lamps at the bar which makes the vibes even more lit. It wasn’t very crowded when I got there but it was a Sunday evening so maybe it was just slow, I’m not sure but this is a great late night spot that you can bring your significant other to and vibe out. The bartender was nice and friendly and the food came out in less than 20 mins and was made to order so it tasted great😋. The prices are definitely affordable and they have a great selection of food options to choose from even for the vegans. Kids friendly as well so you don’t have to leave the kids at home and there’s a wheelchair 🦼 accessible entrance so that’s a plus and there’s a nice fish tank at the front of the restaurant for the fish lovers🐟. DEFF recommend checking this lovely gem out if you’re ever in the neighborhood, I think you would love it.

Cool lil spot off Nostrand and Ave D... Went in with the 'after work ' crowd. Music, food and drinks were good. I would have ordered another drink but the bartender/waitress started getting busy & our ride came faster than expected. Service was friendly. Me & my cousin has a good time. Would definitely go back & recommend. The bathroom was clean too.

Nice local restaurant, we went there on a slow night. The music was excellent and playing at a reasonable volume. The food was delicious and plentiful. Drinks were good and the service was prompt. We plan to return there again to sample other items on the menu.

I love HQ Lounge; the drinks and food are fantastic, and the service from the waitress is top-notch. The only downside is the hesitancy to let customers dance downstairs. I can't spend the whole night sitting upstairs. Let's get the dance floor open. HQ Lounge has become my favorite spot. The food is excellent, and I can dance all night there.

A quick trip to the city landed us here so glad I came. The vibe was amazing. My waiter was super attentive and we didn't feel rushed at all. It was a Sunday night so it was pretty laid back there was music and some dancing. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Amazing food and strong drinks. Our go to when my boyfriend and I need to sip and chat and have tough conversations! 🫠 The calamari, brown stew snapper and the sip and chat drink is usually my go to and with 2 people you will be spending at least $150 with their added gratitude tax. I don't think we ever spent less than that, then again our chats, have us sipping more than usual 😅

I will never return here again. I ordered the Brandy Glazed Chicken. I asked if I could substitute Mac and cheese as one of the sides. Instead of rice and peas. The bartender did not express that I would be paying $12 for a small portion of Mac and cheese. I was under the impression there would be an up charge for a Mac substitute but not a $12 charge for a small portion. The chicken was salty beyond belief, served with obviously frozen packaged vegetables, but I ate it because I was hungry. I also Ordered two Jack Daniels and cokes which were $16 EACH. I HAVE NEVER paid $16 for Jack Daniels. I understand that price for Woodford’s Reserve or a Makers Mark, but NOT Jack Daniels. Overpriced drinks, Plus they add mandatory gratuity. Subpar food and service. This is a neighborhood spot I will NEVER return to again. The only thing I enjoyed was the music, THUS two stars on atmosphere. Do better.

I've been meaning to come to Sip N Chat for a while so we finally did last Friday night. It's hard to miss the lounge as they have neon lights out front and Trini music in the background. They have outdoor seating but we sat inside since it was later in the evening. The vibes are great. It's a narrow restaurant inside but they pack the tables in and get you seated right away. There was a DJ spinning the beats and TVs showcasing music videos. They have a full menu and bar even at 11pm and I ordered the curry snapper which came with your choice of regular rice, or rice and beans, with veggies served on the side. Many of the cocktails have amaretto in them which was perfect since that's one of my favorite liquors. You can also order any kind of cocktail or liquor from the bar. The food took about 15-20 and it was well worth the wait. You're missing out if you've never had snapper before and the islands really know how it's done. Cooked to perfection and the curry seasoning was the best. Getting the check takes a while so if you can pay in cash that'll speed up the process. A great spot none the less and worth a visit.

I will be up front - I really go here for the drinks, music, & vibes, & usually not to eat. That being said, I have had the wings here a few times & they were good & def hit the spot. The staff has always been friendly, & they have a great pan-Caribbean rum selection. Sometimes on weekend nights when it's crowded, though, they are no hats (?), in which case, no me ! Or maybe it was no baseball caps? TBH, that was a while ago. But yeah - def no baseball hats at night. Warm weather weekend nights, esp as July turns to August, this place gets really lit.

After an ultimate fail at another bar/resturant we took an Uber here and realized we should've just came here for dinner to begin with lol. We sat at the bar top and was waited on by Shanika (sorry if I spelled it wrong) she was nice and attentive. Still hungry from the lack of food at the previous bar we ordered some grilled jerk chicken and it was seasoned to perfection! The chicken fell off the bone and the jerk bbq sauce paired so nicely with it. The chicken was a tad expensive about $15 for 5 pieces. Met some nice guys at the bar and one of them shared his pineapple chicken lol that was good too! I had a pretty good drink that was rum based called moment of passion and switched over to Pinot Grigio by the end of the night. The music was good with a mix of old r&b and a little Afro beats. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Brooklyn!

After a long day of drinking with my bestie, we ended our night here. Starved, I was desperate for food and to my delight they had Curry Goat on the menu. So best believe I ordered it! I don't know if it's because I haven't had goat in sooooo long but it was so good. I ended up cleaning the plate! What's even better is they give you extra sauce. I'm so happy we came here, even if it was brief. Btw... We came on a Sunday night so it was not busy at all.

Cool atmosphere, nice for a late night hang. Staff can be a little friendlier, but the drinks are nice and strong.

Good for a late night last minute drop in for a drink. However their staff are rude and lack business luster. Prices are a bit high on menu items but when you've been drinking you don't watch the prices; perhaps this was their intent.

I've been here many times in the past. Walking in yesterday I had flashbacks of all the creeps that tried to talk to me in here and the vibes that normally happen downstairs. I haven't been back since COVID happened but that all changed last night. The food is a bit pricey but absolutely delicious. The garlic butter shrimp with mash potatoes and okra was on point. Don't sleep on this place.

Skip the food and enjoy the music. I lost my mind ordering food from here. The jerk pork came out looking good but it was all bone and fat, the rice was cold and the veggies tasted good. The restroom has urine all over the floor and there's only one available. The DJ is the best part to this restaurant and the fact there's no wait to sit.

Visiting from Texas and the strawberry daiquiri was good and my sisters said they had the best Mac and cheese

Visited on Sunday just as they opened up, i was surprised that they had food to serve do thumbs up for that. the portion for the oxtail was smaller than what i was expecting but, filling nonetheless. The music was nice as always but the bartenders were not attentive at least, not to me and my friend they weren't. It started picking up around 7:30/8 o'clock but, it was a Sunday so i wasn't expecting it to be packed. I didn't like the fact they added the gratuity especially when i didn't feel like the bartenders deserved it. I had to call them over everytime i needed a drink, even when i placed my empty bottle or glass on the counter and it wasn't busy. Overall i like the place and the ambiance

Worse experience!! I came here with a friend as a last min place to hang out because it was in the area.. the location was great however the service was trash. Our server seemed a bit over works seeing that she had to tend to all the tables with little to no help. I ordered the friend wings only to have it smelling like fish

It's nice to see some things haven't changed. Back in the days this used to be a go to spot for my ex and I. We would dine and then go downstairs to burn a few calories. One of my close friend used to live right across the street. 4Yrs ago he was unfortunately killed by the 5 train at Dunkirk Station and so this neighborhood was a sore spot for me. A friend wanted to go dancing and this was one of the 1st palces that came to mind. Lover's Rock came in a close 2nd. We got there around 12:15 on a Fri night. We were informed that there's a 2 drink minimum upstairs before you'd be allowed to go downstairs. Hmmm. Anyway, the drinks were ok. Passed time and headed down. Its started slow. On this particular night the crowd wasn't relatively young nor sexy. Just meh. A mix of 20 somethings and Ole foot. The dj was just alright and then about 1:30 everything changed. Some cuties started to stroll in and the dj kicked it up. We were dancing all damn night and into the morning. Nice mix of reggae, soca and some of that shit they play on the radio nowadays. Overall it flowed well. One cutie pushed the night into overdrive. He and I danced dor what felt like hrs. I was transported back to my youth for a min. You know those days when a man looked and smelled good, was dressed to impress a woman and had the decorum to match. Treated you well and made you feel desirable. Ok, I'm getting carried away. I'm back! Go to Sip and Chat for that old school dancefloor vibe. Don't be overly bourgeois and you'll fit in and stand out at the same damn time. Hopefully they'll be another version of Johnny there to make you feel like I did the last time I was there.

My review of Sip N Chat is solely based on the drinks and entertainment. No one has paid me to review or giving me any free drinks or food in exchange. LOL okay to be serious now, I went here after my birthday dinner solely to dance and be close to home. We had to send back the 2 drinks because they were not made correctly or tasted really bad. I have been here before for appetizers and drinks after a concert at the Barclays and was impressed with the service, food and drinks. This time I shook my head a lot and wondered if the bartendar was sleeping while mixing my drinks. I had more fun going to the basement area to dance. The DJ hooked it up and made sure everyone was dancing not only to calypso, but to rap, R&B and reggae. I will revisit but solely for the appetizers and the drinks that don't require a lot of thinking.

If you're looking for a bar to hang out, watch sports and listen to music, this place would work but the food, it was the worst food I have eaten in my life and that's no exaggeration. I ordered a stewed king fish, my husband and my friend ordered oxtail. One bite into the King fish, I spat it out into the plate and never touched it again. The fish was absolutely stale and had this terrible taste. The oxtail was undercooked. I also ordered a guava daiquiri and all three of us agreed that it was definitely not a guava daiquiri. The server was needs to take a course in hospitality. It was an awful experience that I wished there was a no star option on yelp.

This place is great wish I new about it before. Went their couple of weeks the owner is very nice. The food is good they even had music playing. No one rushed us to leave and we stayed like 4 hours . Definitely will be returning more often

Always been my favorite Carribean establishment. I've been patronizing for years. It's an old school vibe. Music is great and loud (prepare to talk loud). It gets packed very easy so it's hard to have a table. Come early if you want to eat comfortably. Stay late if you want to dance with a strong cocktail. It gets hot in that low ceiling basement lounge. Escoveich Snapper is amazing. They serve a nice portion fresh Snapper. Rice and peas are seasoned.

Nice signature cocktail I had with a friend who introduced me to this place. We were both out drinking, smoking and dining for the day. We both live ten minutes walking distance. He ordered me the coconut shrimp and the music was so loud, the bartender heard garlic chicken. I was excited to to eat and thought eating coconut chicken even though I also made sure I heard coconut shrimp. I ate the garlic shrimp then out comes the coconut shrimp. The wasn't many pieces of small shrimps but at least it was derailed in the seasoned salty garlic coconut soup sauce. We confronted the bartender who took the coconut shrimp right from us and gave it to the back. Tip is included in the bill and my generous boyfriend and I were surprised by the experience we didn't give our using extra $40 on tipping on top of the mandatory $10 service charge. I'm very hesitant to come back here a second time because the service could have definitely been better. Keeping the other shrimp dinner would have made me a life time customer. There are many Jamaican restaurants in the area but it seems like class is not included. I like to feel appreciated but two televisions playing and not even a thank you turns me back to considering an Applebees or any other small business instead of helping a smaller business.

First time going there. Everyone from security to the ladies taking your order to the Owner and Partner were very polite and attentive. The drinks are very good not water downed and their fries are off the chain. We had the barbecue shrimp and spicy jerk chicken, which was very spicy hmmm but cold?? Not sure why but that was why I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars. The music was a great mixture of classic and modern. The downstairs was the dance area you have to show your receipt from upstairs in order to go down. The place was packed great atmosphere will definitely go again..

Another place not to go twice enter the place on a Tuesday decent crowd not a go to place for atmosphere I'm a young thundercat and there was no eye candy but if your looking for a sugar daddy this is the place to go. So many old men and I mean 60-80 years old but hay they need love too. Now please I'm not a chef or a food expert but I know when I've been served some of the nastiest macaroni n cheese this hands down came a close second to my own mother's Mac n cheese and hers is bad I also had cod fish cakes and they should change the name to cakes because that was not cod fish. I am Puerto Rican/ Costa Rican and I know what cod fish taste like and that was some form of imitation cod now the only good thing about this place and why I gave it 2 stars is because of the drinks good lord was it strong bartender is the bomb I had a drink called bend me over and yes when I tell you that drink was everything after 2 of those the old grandpas in there lost about 20 years off them ... my vision was blurry all In all drinks YES .. food ... hell to the nah to the nah nah nah

Drinks are good but the service is extremely slow. Great amount of drinks and the drinks are very strong but once again it will take you a while to get your drink. Food was good but very basic I could make that type of food at my home. Also the place is extremely cramped.

Horrible. My boyfriend and I tried the jerk wings. The wings were soggy, undercooked, and drenched in jerk marinade. I had the coconut curry shrimp. The shrimp wasn't cleaned properly and the veggies were overcooked. My boyfriend had the grilled chicken pasta which was better than my dish but still not the best. The drinks were way too sweet. Will not give this place another try!

This place is the bomb! The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. The food is colorful and bright. They have a variety of items on their menu. This place is NOT cheap, but definitely worth taking a look and visit. The music was great. Heck, you can dance right at the bar. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting the area to try this place out. The drinks are strong as hell too! After we ate, we went to the dance floor downstairs. I danced all night. The DJ had a good mix of island music, and r&b oldies, mixed in with some new stuff. I had so much fun. I'm going to be reliving this in my mind for a long time!

The restaurant half of Sip N Chat is great. The space is small but very clean. I did not know they were open at first but then I looked in and realize they were. The restaurant is at the side of the place separated from the lounge. I had their Stew Chicken, Rice and Peas with cabbage and plantain. For a 12:04 am meal I wouldn't recommend you stopping anywhere else. The food was fresh and everything was perfect. Thanks for being open plus the small is huge.

1/8/2016 came here with 2 of my friends round 9pm for the frist time it was great. We Enjoyed our selves. The food was so good. The music was nice old and new school Caribbean music,which I'm young but still love cuz I grew up with it. The server was friendly and helpful. The place was a lil tight with all the tables and chairs so close to each other,everyone on top each other. Didn't bother me much but I still would love more room. Place:to small/tight seating Music:great Drink:good Food:good Server:good

It's a pretty chill spot. A little Pricy thou. Great music!!!! Good food!! Pretty good drinks!!! I had the jerk chicken pasta it was pretty great! Also the fish cakes and the jerk and BBQ chicken wings. The Waitress took a tad long to come take our orders but after that she was on point with her service. The place is pretty cool, perfect for two ppl. but it is a tad on the small side. The tables are a bit tight. If you go early it's not a problem but as the place (upstairs) starts to fill up around 10 you can't really move once seated. Tables are too close together. Downstairs there is another bar and a dance floor. I love that you can eat and then go dance it off down stairs!!! Music is on point! They play everything! Will definitely visit again!

I came here one night with my bff and had the French fries with the fried fish and it was good the drinks on point here. Def a spot to come to chill and eat before going to the club. The second time came here had the oxtails with the rice and beans and Mac n cheese it was good but the Mac n cheese was cold had better overall will come back again

Food is most delightful, atmosphere is warm & heart aspiring. Price is a lil on the high side but average compared to other outlets in the same degree. Nice place for a first date I had the oxtail and my ex drowned me in alcoholic beverages which were strong and delicious, beware lol he got in the back door that night lol . . There is a nice fancy fish tank with fishes, ceiling fans, a club downstairs and a take out section .. All come all enjoy ..

I've been here a couple of years ago and loved this place. The drinks are strong and the good is spicy especially if you like your food hot lol.

I went here on a Saturday night and had the worst experience ever I will never return back. So there's a downstairs lounge that plays music if your interested but they also serve food for the guest upstairs. After getting patted down and searched to enter the establishment we waited for about 5 mins to be seated and the place was practically empty!! Smh anyway the waitress was in a rush and she immediately wanted to take our orders. I didn't even look at the menu yet. So i just ordered something simple long story short my chicken was bleeding on the inside and my mac and cheese was cold. When i showed the waitress she replied "Order something else I'll give it to u as the same price of the meal u had" Ummmm no i dont want any other food from this place yuck!

This place has gone progressively downhill since I started going in 2013. I'll never set foot in here again. First off, anyplace which requires they check your bag before you come in, is NOT a place to see or be seen. It is in a ghetto spot and they treat you that way. They are not even near public transportation, and the parking is impossible. So why they behave this way I'll never know. They also have had a solid B rating consistently since 2013, so it's another reason I've stopped going. Also, the owner treats me like an a$$hole every time I go in there. I have ZERO idea what his problem is, but he puts on a puss face each and every time. I tried over-tipping to see if this would help...no dice. I have NO idea why. literally he smiles and speaks to the other clients and then just throws my drink at me. Mine is a 12 dollar drink and the folks next to me are buying bottom shelf liquor, but they get fruit in their drink a straw, even a damn umbrella. No thanks. My family owned one of the few Caribbean clubs in San Francisco and I know for a fact this is not how you treat clients. I can live without Sip N Chat, and I will going forward. Londell's, Rustik, Bush Baby,(when they open back up), 123 Lounge, Milk River, ALL of these are better quality than this place and will get my and buddies our business.

Came her for a girls night with a friend, my first impression was the tables are veryyyyy close, like I could hear word for word to what the ppl behind me and at the side of me were saying. . . They play wonderful music and their drinks are AMAZING & SUPER STRONG. . . To eat I ordered jerk wings with a side of mac and cheese. . . The jerk wings were burnt to the point that I wasn't even able to eat it and the mac and cheese was Good but super small. . . I'll come here just for drinks

Nice, low-key spot, and nice ambience. Came here last night and had a good experience despite the loud music. Enjoyed the coconut shrimp with white rice and my date liked his pasta. The names of the drinks are very interesting to say the least.

Be sure to spend ten dollars at the bar (~ the cost of one drink) in order to get your receipt as your 'ticket' to get downstairs. I repeat, SAVE YOUR RECEIPT to get downstairs. 3. I came around 1. From the hours of 1-2 the bar is extremely packed. It is very difficult to get the bartender's attention to order. If you come between that time, you're better off just ordering two drinks initially. I didn't score my first drink until 1:22. 4. The other reviewers were correct. The crowd here is 'mature' ( Read: old). I'm 31, and I'm certain I was the youngest person in there by at least five years. Don't get me wrong, there aren't any grandpas here, but on the flip side you're not gonna find many dancehall queens here. 5. Speaking of dancing. Fellas look to 'teef ah wine', may be sadly out of luck, The guy to girl ratio is insanely in favor for the females. If you come with a woman, keep her close, because she WILL get talked to. And if you're a guy looking to talk to a nice lady, make sure you close the deal quickly, bc they're are some ravenous fellows out there. 6. One great thing is the kitchen is pretty much open until 3. Good luck getting a table though, between 12 and 2. Everyone starts to go downstairs around then. With all that said,if you're from the islands, dating someone from the islands, think about the islands, have a neighbor from the islands, or whatever, this is a fun place to come and enjoy the music with or without your bottle of rum.

We stopped in here and sat at the bar after Mango Seed to have a few drinks! The bartender that served us is superb! Her drinks are on point aka STRONG! No Nonsense drinks=)) I had two Grey Goose screwdrivers and they were both Kicking! Not to mention she was also pleasant and friendly! =PERFECTION! I will be going back! :)

NO. just NO. Overpriced food and drinks and extremely long wait. The drinks are strong so I guess that makes up for the price but they give you very small portions of food for the price.

Always crowded, hardly any seats. Was seated outside where I didn't wanted to be seated. Waited for the waitress for a long period of time to the point I was so close to going to another restaurant. I figured if the wait was long then might as well get food else where. So I decided to only order a drink. The drinks was perfect so I give them that and oh the Dj that night was on point with the tunes!

I came here with a friend and was able to snatch 2 chairs at the bar. Upstairs was pretty calm but starting to get packed. You do get carded to enter the premises. I had my favorite gin and tonic. My original bartender made my drink and disappeared. It was a shame because her skills were better then my current bartender. We had about 3 drinks each and decided to head downstairs. Apparently, when you spend $40 at the bar you can head downstairs free of charge. Downstairs is pretty small longer in length. They played a lot of caribbean music and the dj was pretty good. All in all I had a great time. I'll start utilizing this place as my late night drink spots.

Went on a Thursday night , was very quiet Food was on point , pasta was amazing , my friend had the curry chicken ,was well enjoyed. the bartender was very nice & interactive I'll definitely go back

First of all, I would like to say that this place used to be a good spot to just relax and have a nice drink, now that is no longer my opinion. The past two times that I have gone, they have been terrible experiences. My recent visit, we were over charged for a double shot of alcohol which was $34 and when I asked for fresh lime juice she handed me a cup with commercial lime juice full of fruit flies. When I showed them to her and asked for another quietly (as a fellow bartender, I didn't want to embarrass her ) she then, unapologetically, poured me another cup from the same bottle which also had flies in it! Food is overpriced for what we recieved and not the best quality, they also have items on the menu that they do not serve. The service is trash being that the bartenders seemed to have a few drinks themselves, while flirting and physically throwing themselves onto male customers. Also, not very knowledgable on any alcohols or other drinks besides the ones on the menu which are overly sweet and not well crafted. The place isn't that clean and given the fact that I was served flies twice because she didn't throw out the bottle the first time I mentioned it makes me think there are definitely more bottles that are contaminated. Drinks and food are unappetizing and I would even say unsanitary, the garnishes on the drinks were old fruit that looked like it had been sitting around for a while nor did I see the bartenders wash their hands once behind the bar. This is coming from a Manhattan bartenders perspective, so I understand that some things aren't always easy to do but at least be hospitable, clean, and provide a good experience for the customers. This is also not a Covid friendly place or even a place to sit comfortably for that matter as the tables are packed in corners together just a couple inches apart from one another. It's unfortunate that this place has gone down hill. Overall, SipNChat isn't worth wasting your money or time.

I was in the area looking for a bar/grill to go with a group of friends. Service and ambiance was great. My chocolate orgasm shake was delicious and cans with a cherry on top. Everyone finished all of their food. I'll be back!

Came in on a Thursday night, the only thing that made up for the horrible service was the DJ. I didn't catch his name but had a great mix of dancehall and soca. Getting back to the service, it was horrible from the beginning. My boyfriend and I came in and stood by the door for about 10 mins with no one acknowledging us, he ultimately had to go to one of the bartenders who looked like we disturbed him when asking to be seated. He pointed us to the direction of tables that were marked reserved. At this time two of my friends had joined us, we all waited for another 10 mins before the waitress came us. She slammed the menus and the coasters down, she lacked a welcoming demeanor and frowned the whole time. My bf, despite the horrible customer service tipped her, not even a thank you was mumbled. As for the food, I asked for my wings crispy, well done, fried hard and she acted like she did not know what I was talking about. The chicken was well seasoned but the coat was very gummy. The drinks are very strong, but was not mixed to be appetizing. Will never return here, the waitress and the bartender mentioned above was very rude and unprofessional.

This lounge has good food and great music. I visited this spot on a Wednesday, karaoke night. It was lots of fun to sing along to some great reggae tunes. They have a wide variety of drinks. I look forward to coming here again!

Very disappointed sent my husband to order a oxtail dinner literally only three piece of oxtail was provided for $11. The taste was bland. I will never suppose this establishment again. Before sending him there someone answered the phone and hung up as well as I ask them about the menu. Disgusting service and not worth the price.

Currently here. Hostess told us 5-10 minutes for a table, which is great considering its Labor Day weekend. 10 minutes later the hostess tells us our table is ready. As we make our way to the table she stops us and says the manager, Dexter, gave our table away to another party. WTF?! I said OK, so which manager gave it away so he can inform them that we were here first and they have to wait for the next table. It's only right, correct? Managers are here to fix incidents like this, correct? Well apparently not Dexter! He didn't care and argued with the hostess in the middle of the restaurant as if she was the one in the wrong! She asked him to go to the back to talk and he continued argue with her in the middle of the restaurant! This place sucks! NEVER AGAIN!
