Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week: April 15 | Eater LA

"If I'm ever unsure what to eat I go to Koreatown and order the mandu guk any time of day or year: watching an expert dumpling maker form half-moon pockets stuffed with meat and herbs sets the scene, and the dumplings in a comforting broth served with sides of kimchi and vegetables always satisfy. The sujebi pulled-dough soup and cold noodles at the same spot are also outstanding." - Eater Staff

Google
One of LA’s Best-Kept Hidden Gems! I’ve been meaning to visit this spot for a while, and I’m so glad I finally made the drive completely worth it. This is an honest review: the 떡만두국 (김치/소고기/야채) here filled with kimchi, beef, and veggies, is hands down some of the best I’ve had in all of K-town. The broth was rich and comforting, and the dumplings were perfectly packed and bursting with flavor. You can really taste the quality and care in every bite, unlike some of the more commercialized local spots. The banchan was equally impressive fresh, well-seasoned, and the kimchi especially stood out with its crisp texture and bold flavor. Everything paired beautifully with the soup. It honestly reminded me of my fiancée’s mom’s home cooking authentic, soulful, and made with love. Easily a 10/10. We’ll definitely be coming back as regulars. 감사합니다!

Came for lunch alone, it was fairly busy around 12:00 to 1:00 pm and got a table. Order the combo dumplings along with fried pork cutlets. The Dumplings were ok, nothing to specials, Loved the pork cutlet comes with barbeque sauce, small salad, and dark rice. The server was nice and polite even though there was a language barrier we managed to easily commuincate. I'll order from here again, but take out only.

Google
Very good combo dumpling soup with rice cakes. Delicious side dishes and very good hot sauce. I watched one of the sisters making the dumplings while I ate, which was cool. Fast service.

Google
The broth is rich and refreshing, simmered with a variety of seafood, crabs, and vegetables like zucchini and onions. The thick homemade sujebi (hand-pulled dough) noodles had a great texture.

Molly K.

Google
I had Sujebi with fresh squash and hand pulled dough flakes. Really clean and yummy. You can watch a sister pull the dough flakes right in front of you.

Google
This place is legit off the hook. People are so cool. Home made baby. Home made dumplings. I wanted some dumplings and they were like: which one? Kimchi or beef?!? And I said YES!!!! I got kimchi and beef… got both baby!!! Last year my moms came on New Year’s Eve afternoon and they were out of dumplings so come early baby. We got some to go to eat in the car and some to put in dumpling soup later. Some space to eat here and parking is good did I mention that it was home made!?!? ;) I’m channeling my silver lining playbook - homemade pops. Mom made homemade a!!!

Google
staff was kind and provided great service. food was absolutly delicious, with large portions! hot and fresh, and lots of wonderful flavor. 10/10

Google
Wonderful food and staff. The soups, especially the pumpkin and dumplings are impeccable. Homey vibe!

Yelp
If you want to taste authentic Korean-style dumplings, I highly recommend this place. As soon as you walk in, you can see the owner handcrafting each dumpling herself. That's how fresh and tender they are, and the taste is reminiscent of homemade dumplings just like mom used to make. It definitely feels like no artificial flavoring is used, so the taste is mild and not overly seasoned. If you're craving traditional Korean-style dumpling soup or kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup), give this place a try!

Yelp
What a cute and wholesome spot! This place is ran and dishes are legitimately made by two sisters lol I was famished after running errands all day. This spot happened to be the closest to me (with parking mind you lol) I tried their Seafood Kalguksu (knife cut noodles/pasta) and the broth was so flavorful. I feel like I got a taste of Korea's entire delicious sea! Lol I think Kalguksu is too hearty for me. I'd def ask to sub for Buckwheat noodles next time. I was so stuffed, I couldn't finish the pasta. But I did eat all the seafood and veggies. Soup was great too! Def give this spot a try if you are near by or feeling adventuring out. Service was so nice and prompt!

Yelp
Food: this review is long overdue since I have been coming here for a while. This is my mom's favorite place, and she orders one thing - red bean porridge. She says there's no other place in socal that makes the dish as well as they do. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of red bean, so I always end up ordering something else like kalgooksu or sujebi, which are decent but not mind-blowing amazing . But for the sake of my lovely mother, this place deserves 5 stars Price: most dishes range $17-20, which I think are pretty average for ktown food nowadays Ambiance: decent sized restaurant with about 10 ish tables inside, I don't think I've seen any non koreans sitting inside every time I came here. Inside is clean and brightly lit with lots of sunlight, vibe is mostly for quick meals with family or casual friends Service: the korean ladies making food and serving are nice, mostly speak exclusively korean, never had issues making my order and getting my dishes Parking: there's a free parking lot in the front associated with the strip mall, where the restaurant is located, there's usually an available spot, not too busy

Yelp
I was on a hunt for Korean kalguksu and stumbled on this little gem! Bonus points for free and plenty parking. They are located in a plaza. I know they are known for their dumplings - even saw an employee hand making them while I was eating there - but I was cold and wanted noodles! Their chicken kalguksu was pretty good. Tasty broth and chewy knife cut noodles. They also gave radish, fish cake, and kimchi as their sides. An employee said the spicy paste was for the soup but I opted against using it. I did find the broth to be more on the bland side in comparison to other kalguksus I've had but still a solid place!
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
Just like the restaurant name, there are always lady sisters making dumplings, so we know their dumplings are all made in-house. Nothing to fancy, kinda old atmosphere, the restaurant is not even located in the middle of Ktown. However, this restaurant is one of few you can feel your grandmother cooked for you.

Yelp
Comforting, traditional Korean food - every dish is freshly made and so delicious. It's a small restaurant run by two of the sweetest ladies! They prepare each dish with care and it'll be my go-to restaurant when I want Korean soul food. The soybean (seasonal) cold noodle soup was delicious - the nuttiness of the soup broth and noodles was perfectioooon. The pumpkin sujebi soup with handtorn noodles was comforting and filling - love the texture of the sujebi and warming and flavorful broth. Portions are quite generous and filling! Parking lot too

Yelp
Good price. Good flavor. Good service. Came in for lunch on a Tuesday. Sat at a table with no wait. Dumplings came out promptly. Beef steamed dumplings and kimchi dumpling soup were tasty. Would like to try the fried and the chive dumplings next time. Not upscale but great for a quick bite.

Yelp
This is a once in a lifetime restaurant. The kind of place that instantly makes you feel like you're in someone's home being cared for with love. This is the real deal. The service is kind, caring, loving, patient, expedient, and always comes with the most warm smiles. I feel like I am with family here. The service is truly a 10/10. The food. Oh god the food. It's IMMACULATE. That may come across as an over exaggeration, but that is completely your loss if you don't believe me. Every item on the menu is unique and delicious. The food is 20/10. It's unfair to even give it a number. It's just too good. The kimchi is unlimited. Need I say more? I cannot recommend this enough. It's perfect.
google avatar

Samuel P.

Yelp
Their kimchi dumpling soup is incredible. They are also very kind to their regulars. The parking lot usually has spaces (I'm not great at parallel parking anyway).
google avatar

Elle C.

Yelp
This place is always filled with older Koreans everytime I stop by. I usually just come here to pick up a bag of their in-house made kimchi dumplings (which are 5 out of 5)! But this was my first time dining in and trying their food. We ordered the bean curd with kimchee soup and the sujuebi with kimchi. The bean curd with kimchee soup was delicious and hit the spot, but the sujuebi with kimchi (it's huge by the way) was a bit sour. I think the kimchi they used for the soup might have been on the sour side...it wasn't for me. Not sure if it was a one off or that's just how it normally tastes there. Otherwise, the service was good, but the banchan was fairly minimal. If all you need is some kimchi with your sujuebi or kalkooksoo then you're solid. Gave this place a 4 out of 5 because the bean curd soup was good, the frozen kimchi dumplings you can pick up are really good, and they have friendly service.

Yelp
My staff and I went to Sisters for a staff lunch today and it was fantastic. I did dock a star because the place smelled like a wet rag as soon as we walked in and it lingered for a few minutes so it left a bad first impression. I assume that tables were cleaned prior to our arrival so perhaps the smell of the cleaning rags lingered because of that. Onto the food, we ordered the fried dumplings assortment and they were delicious. We also ordered the sujebi with pumpkin and it was very hearty and filling, I especially loved the dough pieces. We also ordered the marinated pork and cold vegetable noodles and both were equally delicious. I would definitely return especially being that they are family owned.

Yelp
Was so excited to go there, my favorite menu were only seasonal, couldn't try - soy cold noodles and barley bibimbap. Hot noodle soup & mandu were good though.
google avatar

Ally J.

Yelp
One of the hidden gems outside of the Ktown area. One of the best kalgooksoo in the town! Recommend the seafood one or Kimchi. The handmade dumplings are also good. Huge portions btw.

Yelp
I came here 2-3 times many years ago when it was newly open to try their food. The menu was very simple. Nothing really stood out, and the food wasn't special in any way. I actually thought it was lacking flavor or depth of flavor. I wasn't a huge fan back then...so I never came back. I wanted to try this place again many years later because I was craving rice cake and dumpling soup, and this place came up on Yelp. I'm so glad I did...however, this review is for to-go only since I ordered to-go. The person on the phone who took my order seemed busy but nice. The menu has definitely evolved (it has a lot more items), and the food flavoring has improved. I ordered and loved my rice cake and dumpling (kimchi filling) soup. There are a couple of dumpling filling options: kimchi, beef, etc. I would definitely order my soup again. I saw other reviewers' reviews and photos, and I'm actually excited to try other items on their menu, too!

Yelp
When you walk into a place and everyone is Korean, buckle up. This place is good. The sides were on point. Refilled without me asking. The combo dumplings gave me a chance to taste all they had to offer. I personally liked their beef and chive the best. I got the anchovy noodle soup. I wish I could taste the anchovy but my tongue lost the ability to taste after I crushed a plate of kimchi. Next time, I'm gonna wait for the noodles to come out before searing my tongue with spicy pickles cabbage. Overall, I'll be back. Nice waitresses that speak broken English but patient and kind. Now off to the spa next door to steam it up and take a nap.

Yelp
A mom and pop restaurant with homey food. Prices are fair for the portions. Kalguksu with seafood was good. I was pleasantly surprised that the squid pieces in the soup were really tender. Comes with an onion dipping sauce that I really liked. Steamed dumpling plate combo came with 4 types of dumplings (10 pieces total). I enjoyed them but wasn't blown away by any particular flavor. Ate them with the onion sauce from the kalguksu. +The kimchi here is so good! +Parking lot has lots of spaces and is free.

Yelp
Even better than I remembered! I got the pumpkin sujebi and the broth was so good!! I wasn't even that hungry but it was so tasty I couldn't stop eating just one more sujebi piece. Portion is quite large, so I took the leftovers in a togo container.

Yelp
Let me say this in summary: Best. Dumplings. Ever. They are a small mom and pop shop located in the heart of ktown. They serve beautifully handmade and crafted dumplings that you can also buy frozen. The dumplings come with beef & chives and they are so delightful. The owners were so incredibly nice and friendly and did a wonderful job accommodating our large group. You actually can't go wrong with anything on the menu but I highly recommend getting some steamed or fried dumplings to share and the rice cake soup with kimchi dumplings!!! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I went to Olympic Spa and wanted to pick up some Korean food so I went to Sisters Dumplings. Their online ordering system wasn't working so I just drove over and ordered. I got the combination dumpling and rice cake soup and an order of steamed beef and chive dumplings. Both are amazing. Everything about the soup is perfect. It's tasty and has great textures and it was really delicious. The steamed dumplings were also tasty and fresh. And the banchan was of course a treat. I don't live too close but this is the kind of place I would drive out of my way for when I have that particular craving. It only took ten minutes for the food to be ready and it was super delicious and made my day.
google avatar

Ted A.

Yelp
The dumplings are really great. I had the combo dumpling soup, which contains a mixture of both beef and kimchi dumplings. Both are excellent so it was nice to have some of each. The broth was very hot and perfect for a cold day. The banchan are simple--just cucumber, "regular" kimchi, and kkakdugi. They check vaccination records at the door and left the door wide open, presumably for air circulation purposes. Good thing I had the soup to keep warm! The price was reasonable and portion size is respectable. Location is a bit off the main drag in Koreatown, but there was plenty of parking in the lot outside.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Just wow. The restaurant itself wasn't busy when I stopped by mid-week to order take-out for lunch, but the staff was busy making those yummy Dumplings from scratch. Very cool to see them create those perfectly shaped stuffed crescents. I ordered the dumpling and rice cake soup with kimchi as my choice, and wow, just wow. The broth was flavorful but not salty, the rice cakes were just the right amount of chewy, and the dumplings provided the bombs of extra flavor to the soup and each bite. I always feel a little odd leaving reviews for other cultures' cuisines, because I don't really know if this soup would remind you of home, but I do love good food and this was delicious.
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Great spot for soup! I ordered take out for some dumplings, seafood soup noodles and kimchi stew-- they were all delicious and big portions too! The noodles had a very good chew texture. Their kimchi banchan tasted crunchy, fresh, and spicy.. yum! Will be back to satisfy more soup cravings ~

Yelp
Where do I start.... My mom and I came here for lunch. It was our first time here. Found this place on yelp and the reviews and the pictures seemed ok and it was close to where we were at. We totally REGRET it!!! We walked in and the workers literally just sat there chit chatting and looked at us! No smiles and no greeting nothing!!! We just sat anywhere. They were still just talking with each other! Wow!! We should of just walked out but we just stayed. They only had one table with customer. The food visual looks good but the taste itself NO GOOD! It's very bland and the dumpling is dry! Dumpling is small!
google avatar

Justin Y.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in ktown. I'm a huge sucker for anything soupy, and all the dishes I've tried are fantastic (mandu guk, sujebi, kalguksu). Very solid, flavorful broth, noodles all have good QQ, and very good banchan. All the ajummas go here too! Portion size: one dish can approximately serve 1 large person (me) or 1.5-2 regular people (my wife) I've been holding off on giving this place a review because I don't want it to get too popular and busy, but definitely swing by if you're craving hearty, homey soups!
google avatar

Yelp
I first heard about this place when my cousin sent me a social media post of this girl who brought her Korean parents to the restaurant and they approved. I walked in and I figured that I should order the dumplings because of the name. They do have other dishes you can order on the menu. I ordered the dumpling and rice cake combo soup. The dumplings are handmade so you can taste the freshness when biting into the dumpling. You might even see the Korean ladies sitting there making dumplings at one of the tables. The broth is not super strongly flavored but they do have pepper on the table should you wish to add a little spice to it. Along with the main dish they will give you kimchi, radishes and chili pepper. The service was very friendly and efficient. They checked in on me to find out how I like the dumplings Around noon time, the restaurant started to become filled with Koreans eating there. This is the kind of spot that's pretty low-key and probably gets people in based on word of mouth. In my case, my cousin sending me a video of a girl and her Korean parents enjoying the food. If you love dumplings and soup, I highly recommend you giving them a try.

Yelp
My friend had told me to try this place because it has really good soups and mandu. Funny enough I found myself in the area and by chance I saw the restaurant. First impressions- it is very Korean from the smell to the golf channel playing on the TV. Absolutely love the feel of the place. Makes it feel nice and comfortable like home. The food- ordered the seafood kalguksu and sujebi along with an order of steamed mandu. Everything tasted really good. The soup was extremely flavorful and they included crab legs which are some of my favorite things to eat in soup. The dumplings were extremely juicy and tasty. Everything went really well together. The best part was I split it between two other friends so the price was very reasonable. Things to know- it would be preferable if you had a friend who could speak Korean. Always helps when going to restaurants like this. Regardless, the menu is in both Korean and English. Definitely recommend this place for some great mandu (dumplings) and soups. Will also be back!
google avatar

Jennifer O.

Yelp
Ordered takeout over the phone and everything was ready in about 10 minutes. There was plenty of free parking and pickup was seamless (and covid-conscious). We got the rice cake combo mandu (both beef and kimchi) soup and kimchi jjigae. It comes with rice and two banchan - fresh cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi. My total came out to ~$28. The rice cake mandu soup was a homey meat broth with 5 large mandu (2 kimchi and 3 beef) and a very generous amount of rice cakes. I usually like having rice cakes in this dish, but with this one I would've preferred less of it for more mandu. Both beef and kimchi mandu were packed with filling and very tasty. I will definitely be back for their frozen dumplings (refer to pics for pricing). Kimchi jjigae was super flavorful and contained white mushrooms, tofu, and slices of pork belly. Very satisfying! Both kimchi banchan were great as well, especially paired with the mandu soup. I had a positive experience here from both a quality of food and service perspective. Portion sizes are generous and cost is quite reasonable. I would recommend giving this place a shot!
google avatar

Esther C.

Yelp
This has been our pandemic/quarantine life saver! The food is absolutely delicious, the portions are generous, the food comes out super fast and the owners are the absolute sweetest. Parking is super easy, and if you order ahead of time it's waiting when you get there! My menu recommendations: tonkatsu potstickers knife cut noodle soup fried potstickers

Lily C.

Yelp
Very homey spot and the dough flakes/sujaebi is chewy and fresh. Service was fine and I'm taking one star off because the half a piece of crab tasted kind of old and did not taste fresh. However the rest of the food was fine. Portions are large and overall good bang for your buck.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
Very solid Korean restaurant if you like to try Korean authentic Mandu soup or kalguksu. We ordered Mandu guk and spicy pork. I knew Mandu guk will be good but surprisingly spicy pork was really good and the spicy sauce was really the best. Other restaurant one is too sweet or dry but this one was perfectly spicy and not too sweet to mix with rice!!!! The side dishes were ok but not the best in the town. The service is standard and only one person serve the dining area so if there are too many take out then expect slow services. Otherwise it is good services for Korean Restaurant. We will go back again to try pork katsu and other dishes as well.

Jovial X.

Yelp
The food is good. Very traditional.蔬菜的好像就是韭菜味的饺子。很像吃了韭菜云吞。味道还行~吃得很撑14.99一大碗。 Kimchi side is pretty good! A lot of Korean people eat here.
google avatar

Megan A.

Yelp
The food was so yummy! Felt like a home cooked meal. And the prices were unbeatable especially compared the portion size! The service was outstanding, the server was very attentive, helpful, and went above and beyond providing for our needs.
google avatar

Mandy A.

Yelp
My friend recommended me this place, and I tried their Bulgogi and Pork cutlet for to go. They came with rice, and side dishes as well as soups. I really liked their bulgogi as it was tender and juicy, but pork cutlet was okay, not that great cuz it wasn't that fresh, I guess. Decent place with reasonable price, would try again for other dishes.

Jason K.

Yelp
Best pork cutlets in ktown I said it. I love that it's no frills just meat and a thin layer of crispiness. I recommend asking for extra sauce for the delicious cutlets. Nice folks, great service.

Yelp
Best dumpling restaurant. Their dumpling soup with mandu is so good. Not only is the dumplings good, but there broth is very flavorful and has a lot of umami. Their frozen dumplings to go is also so good. I will never buy supermarket frozen dumplings again. I will just get the frozen dimplings here. The sujebi with sweet pumpkin dough flakes and perilla is sooo good. Highly recommend. The broth us very good and I love the crushed perilla seeds on top. The service is very good too. The ahjummas sit there in and hand make the dumplings. The variety platter of fried dumplings is also very good. Please support this restaurant. The food is amazing!
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
As said before, hidden gem. Only issue I have with it is it closes a tad early. Otherwise the noodles, dough flakes, dumpling soups are absolutely choice. Not flashy but very comparable quality to the popular places in Ktown if not better. I'd choose this place over hangari, mdk, anyday Also love the chopped chili sauce they provide when you order the noodles (kalguksu)
google avatar

DokgoTak L.

Yelp
Been a long time to visit this place. Recently, I came here with my old-time friends, and we ordered kalguksu (warm soup noodle) with chicken broth, anchovy-based soup and seafood. We ordered steamed dumpling as well. Just a little bit of taste changed compared to the good old days like 10 years ago or so. But surely it tasted good enough, though. Side dishes are okay but, kimchi and kakddugi tastes a little different than the old time.
google avatar

Linda K.

Yelp
This place by far has the best kalgooksu and soojaebi! We ordered chicken kalgooksu, soojaebi and steamed beef dumpling! Win! The noodles in kalgooksu is hand pulled and chewy! The steamed beef dumplings were the perfect mouthful and the soojaebi tastes just like my mom used to make them. The kimchi is a perfect combo! Delicious! I can't wait to go back and even take home some of that frozen dumplings to have it at home. A must go restaurant if you're ever in Ktown!
google avatar

J K.

Yelp
This is a family-friendly restaurant with famous Korean menu. It is k-soul food place. They are famous of hand-made dumpling. It has flavor for beef, kimchi, buchu, pork. I like kimchi and beef one. I just love all their menu: sujebi, kalguksu, dumpling soup are very good. Every once in a while it is a place to go! My favorite one~ i also ordered freeze dumpling to go so that I can cook at home! Two thumbs up!
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
I've practically ordered everything off of their menu and I can say this with 100% confidence that EVERYTHING is delicious here! My GO TO would probably be their kimchi jeegae, kimchi sujebi, dduk mandoogook, ddukboki, and any of their cold noodle dishes! Can you tell I love this place so much? Haha!

Dookie W.

Yelp
I'm not crazy about their dumplings. Got the beef & chives and steamed combo sampler. TBH, not a fan of Korean dumplings. When I'm in the mood for dumplings, hands down, Chinese dumplings are the best...chubby Beijing dumplings, soupy Shanghainese ones, Cantonese wontons...unbeatable. So what? They earned a 5-star rating b/c of that spicy cold salad. Ever since I've had their version, I've been addicted to it. Just order it...so good w/the boiled egg, cabbage and that sauce. Yummy!
google avatar

Nohemi W.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service feels like home. If you're in ktown make sure to try this little spot, so worth it.
google avatar

Sae P.

Yelp
I've been here a few times to get takeouts and finally dined in for the first time. Food was tasty as usual but being inside of the restaurant was rather disappointing. The ladies who were making dumplings in the dining area weren't wearing masks or gloves and proceeded to do everything in the restaurant. While making dumplings, they took orders and ran the cash register- even my credit card had sticky flour stuff from them not washing their hands in between and I also found hair in our kimchi...

Talia S.

Yelp
Cute small place. Love love love the texture of the steamed and the fried dumplings. Will be back to buy frozen ones
google avatar

Robin Y.

Yelp
Comfort food that's good for the soul. A no-frills family restaurant with great prices and even greater food. Come for the noodles and dumplings- don't expect 5 star service. Seafood hand cut noodles - A HUGE bowl of hand cut noodles with a generous portion of seafood. The broth was simple yet flavorful, and noodles were thick and chewy. Rice cakes and dumplings - I loved the combination of the soft scrambled eggs, seaweed, rice cake, and dumplings. It was so simple yet so flavorful. The rice cakes were chewy but not over cooked and the dumplings were so full of flavor. Would definitely return here if in the area (and by in the area I mean studying at Prism Cafe on any day except Sunday). The food here hits the spot and makes your soul whole again.

Joo L.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here. The steamed kimchi dumplings and the sujebi soup were super delicious! The portions of the side dishes were generous. Everything was the perfect temperature and packaged well. Definitely will be ordering again.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Super soft spicy rice cakes Epic kimchi dumplings. Very sweet women working there. Can't wait to. One back and try their handmade noodles
google avatar

Loni L.

Yelp
That home-made Korean food taste ! My favorite are the kimchi dumplings, tonkatsu, sweet pumpkin soojibi and dukkbokki!!!! You really get the feels of a Korean ajumma cooking and love by the staff here; they come over to ensure that you are well attained to, not needing any more water or side dishes, asking you if the food is good -- they give honest recommendations on dishes. I think the tonkatsu here is actually my favorite (yes, I like wako, but it's different - try and see if you agree with me). Another perk, prism coffee is in the same plaza and this plaza always has available parking. I love this restaurant to order take-out (to feed a group of people) or a nice quiet dinner to spend quality time with people without the hustle and bustle of a loud restaurant environment - it's simply a great place to go and enjoy good quality Korean food.

Cmahdavi M.

Yelp
A true hidden gem. The food is authentic Korean amazingness. The prices are very low, especially for what you get... and the dumplings were some of the best I have had in my life. You can literally see the sisters rolling dumplings while you eat. It is a privately owned passion project.
