Pizzeria With a Patio Pops Up in Bankers Hill - Eater San Diego

"Emily Green’s first eatery is a celebration of sisterhood and offers a friendly new spot for pizza and classic Italian comfort food. It features a shaded, 60-seat patio and is open daily with a weekday happy hour. The menu includes New York/New Jersey-style pizza, gluten-free crusts, vegan pies, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees, and more. Executive chef Mark Damiano's family recipes are the basis for the menu. Green will spotlight different charitable organizations every month and plans to launch weekend brunch service in July." - Candice Woo

The pizza and Salad is exceptional! The pizza crust is so fresh and buttery! The quality of ingredients is phenomenal! The customer service is top tier! The vegetarian options were yummy! Even the owner was taking orders and getting the job done! 🍕🍕🍕 I love it here! I enjoyed looking at the throwback pictures on the walls that are full of memories!

Google
Awesome pizza not very thin still has a doughy feel to it with a bit of a crunchy bite. Definitely would recommend eating your pizza once its warm. It'll taste different once you let it get cold the crust won't be ideal anymore it would be more chewy by then unless maybe you warm it up again. Definitely recommend the pesto and the cheesy uncle one.

Google
The soup of the day was great and they heated up the sliced pizza. Find a table, then go order at the counter. You are given a number. Ordering can take a bit so it's a bit of a log jam. They bring the food to you. There are bottled drinks and fountain drinks to the left upon entering and there is a bathroom to the right. We were not sure if we were supposed to bus our table because of the barrel table outside. I tried the pepperoni which had small pepperonis on it. The basil and mushroom was good as well. I can't wait to try more. The salads looked good! There is a heater outside. I'd go again and I'd like to know the origin of the name.

Google
Friendly pizza place with excellent service. Crunchy undercarriage crust cooked to perfection. Also got the garden grill sandwich. Pesto sauce on the sandwich was amazing.

Google
I appreciate a pizza place that offers slices all day long and not just for lunch. I got two slices - they were awesome. The key for a good pizza IMO are two things. The sauce and the crust. Sisters delivers on both. The sauce had a nice flavor, but wasn’t overpowering. And the crust was absolutely divine. Fantastic combination of crunch and chew. If you typically don’t eat the crust, you will want to here. Definitely give this place a go and I you won’t be disappointed.

Google
4.5 on pizza and 5 across the board on everything else. Excellent NY style pizza $4.25 a slice, plenty of other choices that I didn't explore. Good tap and wine selections too. Very friendly and good size slices. Will repeat for sure!

Google
We ended up here after going to the SD Zoo, and I’m glad we did. We got the Chicken Parmesan pizza and it was great. We also got a small order of garlic knots that were really good too. We got the 16” pizza which is more than enough for two people. This is a good laid back pizza place that sits in a neighborhood. The outside seating area is larger than the inside and nice. We got there just in time because 20 minutes later the place was packed. Parking is a bit of a pain. Fourth Street is paid parking and spots were limited. After a little bit, I found a free spot on Brookes Avenue which runs next to the business.

Google
Best pizza in San Diego!! Slices are excellent NY style, fantastic prices, have yet to find a better fried calamari either. The neighborhood and the overall atmosphere - awesome. I’ve gone a couple times a week over the last month as it’s easy to get to. Staff is super friendly. Do not miss out on the ranch dressing, it’s homemade and outshines all others. I frequently get Ms. Piggy, Uncle Jesse, Obecian, and Chicky Chicky Parm. Love them all.

Yelp
The owners are the best!!! That's the main reason why I support them!! They have some fun pizzas, but they aren't the best. After living in New York and Philly San Diego pizza is a bust but they are good enough!

Yelp
I've past by this location multiple times and finally had the chance to try out the pizza. This pizza shop fills up fast and seating is on a first come, first serve basis and I wss lucky to get a table at the prime dinner time. I went to dinner with friends and we ordered the Rooftop BBQ and the Uncle Jesse. The pizzas were pricey for the smallest option but both were good. The garlic knots were amazing. They were flavorful and taste the best right when they come out of the oven.
google avatar

Yelp
They have specialty pizza in slices! I'm always happy when pizzerias have specialty pizzas available in slices. That way I can try a few different ones! This time around, I got the BBQ pizza and the chickie chickie parm parm. They were alright. I certainly like the crispiness of the pizza. They're thin and have that nice snappy sound when you bite them. The BBQ was pretty tasty; you can't mess up BBQ. The chickie chickie parm parm was a bit of a disappointment. It wasn't bad, but it's not what you expect a chicken parm to be. I would want to get some breaded chicken pieces with hearty marinara sauce and gooey cheese, but this chicken parm seems to be just tomato-based pizza with pieces of chicken; I didn't really get the breaded texture. It wasn't bad, taste-wise, just slightly underwhelming given that it was supposed to be chicken parm.

Yelp
This is where you go for a good slice with friends. While traveling from PB to hillcrest was likely a bit unnecessary for slices, I have no complaints. The slices hit the spot and the BBQ chicken pizza was the star for me.

Yelp
We ordered take-out (although I've heard great things about dine-in), and had great pizza. Our out of town guests were impressed and the pizzas were just as ordered. The sausage was fantastic!
google avatar

Yelp
I can't believe i just discovered this gem of a pizza place. The pizza is the closest i've found to ny style, even better than Bronx pizza. The pizza is crispy with the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The crust is deliciously crispy. Also ordered the sisters salad, the side salad and the tomato bisque. The soup was creamy and a tad sweet and came with the perfect croutons for dipping. Salads were large and fresh. i'll definitely be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
The Obecian pizza is the best pizza! It's so flavorful and the crust at Sisters is pure perfection!

Yelp
I Was in New York a few weeks back and did a pizza crawl great pies! This joint would be up there for their pies! Loved their crisp bottom with a thin dense and chewy crust. Perfect amount of cheese. The sauce was right up my alley with the right zest, seasoning, and sweetness(not too sweet) love their pepperoni and how it forms into cups! At this moment this is my favorite New York style pizza in the west coast if not outside of NYC. It's safe to say it's beats John's on Bleeker in a land slide! For reference, On a one bite(portnoy) rating I give this a 8.9 John's a 7.3 Costco 3.9 L'industires a 9.2 and mama's too 9.0

Yelp
OMG, so delicious and such a nice addition in Northpark. We went on their opening day and were blown away. We actually ended up coming back the next 2 days to have some slices. The food is incredible. The staff is amazingly nice. Again, so happy they landed in Northpark.

Yelp
I occasionally come here for my pizza fix because 1. love the name 2. pizza is good 3. appreciate the outdoor patio. Location is fairly easy to find within the neighborhood. Depending on the time of day, street parking may be found within 2-3 blocks. I usually come for a couple slices--typically pepperoni (cups) and more recently hot honey pepperoni. Also ordered a couple full pies on my birthday a couple years ago, and all my guests enjoyed so hopefully we'll have another excuse to have a pizza party with their food again soon.
google avatar

Mike N.

Yelp
The pizza is delicious, the staff are super friendly and the decor is welcoming! We'll definitely be back. The GF crust is great! Nice beer and wine selection as well!

Yelp
I finally got to try this place out a couple of days ago. My coworker has been going on and on about how good this place is. I went as soon as they opened on a Wednesday. My coworker and I had two slices each. I tried the classic pepperoni and the Uncle Jesse. To be honest they were both amazing! I can't say I liked one better than the other. The staff was super friendly and nice: and I loved all the dog pictures in the bathroom. Super cute! I can't wait to go back and try different flavor slices. I liked that they have frozen pizzas to go as well.

Yelp
This was my first time going to Sister's Pizza, and my husband and I met friends Jim and Tim who have gone before and love it. We had the Uncle Jesse (ricotta cheese, mozzarella and basil), the fried artichokes appetizer and the Southwest salad special, though they ran out of the cilantro dressing and substituted with a balsamic vinaigrette. Would definitely recommend this place for the food, music, and vibe. It was really relaxing to enjoy sitting in the outdoor patio space. Love supporting local businesses in Hillcrest and catching up with Jim and Tim.

Yelp
I've heard great things about Sisters Pizza for a while now, but finally made it in a couple weeks ago. It's hard to find good vegan pizza anywhere, and it was so tasty!! It may very well be the best I've had yet The vegan cheese was just a little weird but... it's vegan cheese (it's all weird). The crust was amazing and the sauce was yummy too. The staff was super friendly as well and attentive to help. I sat outside next to the heaters, and liked the lights they had strung up. Overall good vibes and good food, I'll definitely be back :)

Yelp
I am OBSESSED with Sisters Pizza after my first visit. In a cute and more residential part of Hillcrest, it's vibrant but not as hectic as spots on University. There isn't a dedicated parking lot but I was able to find street parking within a block at 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday. There's a lot of patio seating and a decent amount inside. I was there for about 2 hours and watched a good flow of customers, but the line always moved fairly quickly . Dog friendly! They've got a robust offering of pizza, beer, and other delicious sounding goodies. They sell pizza by the slice or full pie. Honestly there's so much on the menu that I want to try. I had a slice of the Chickie Chickie Parm Parm, which was DELICIOUS, and 2 pints of a honey ale. The staff is all incredibly friendly and there's definitely a community of regulars. Forever grateful to my friend for introducing me to a new favorite spot!

Yelp
Ordered on uber eats ... food came hot and well prepared . Will order again (Chicken parmigiana)

Yelp
The pepperoni patty pizza is so delicious! Enjoying the saltiness of the small pepperoni pieces and fairly thin crust. Definitely recommend trying this place if you're close by or visiting SD.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little spot we found when visiting from LA. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Great outside seating area too. We ordered the large pizza and salad and found it to be perfectly cooked and the sauce was very tasty. Will be visiting on our next weekend trip.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great local joint. When we come we like to get their modest mouse pizza but everything here is pretty good. Special shout out to their zeppolis! They are like little doughnut balls. 15/10. Also special shout out to their garlic bread. That garlic spread is tasty AF. It's a cute family ran place with a few tables inside but a lovely area outside that's perfect for Cali weather. Parking can be a pain during the weekday as it's only street but on weekends seems to be fairly casual. Please note if you're using a food delivery app the menu is more limited whereas if you go in person you can order more and by the slice. All in all a great place for any occasion whether that be hanging with friends post kickball game (it's a fave for that reason on weekends) or stopping by for a quick slice or two.
google avatar

Marie J.

Yelp
We love getting Sister's Pizza. They are usually very friendly and fast. For the first time, we decided to eat in instead of getting the pie to go. Unfortunately, they forgot about our pizza and we waited over an hour to get it. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so cold outside. The good news it was worth the wait and they made the mistake right. I am not sure if we will eat in anytime soon, but we will definitely pick up the pie to go in the future. Also, found out that they have frozen pizza to that you can make from home. I think we may try that next time.
google avatar

José D.

Yelp
A local pizza place that offers pizza by the slice or the whole thing. Pizza is very cheesy and it's thin sliced. Couldn't have asked for a better combination
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot for a last minute dinner night & had a lovely experience. It's located in a great area of hillcrest/bankers hill in a quieter neighborhood. They have indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of heaters and an inviting, intimate feel. The staff were all very friendly and great! This pizza was so delicious. All the ingredients were so fresh and the crust was perfect. The appetizer was also very good and unique. I can't wait to try this place out again (hopefully soon).
google avatar

Halle J.

Yelp
Pizza was delicious (and huge). We got the 18" don ho volcano and pepperoni and mushroom. Perfect all around and not too greasy. I ordered online in advance which I recommend because when we went to pickup at 5pm it looked like they had a lot of orders! Staff was nice and our order was ready within the time frame given. I'd definitely come back, they offer pizza by the slice too and the outside seating area looked really nice.
google avatar

Starla N.

Yelp
Food was delicious, tomato bisque and grilled cheese was a win! Staff was friendly and super helpful! It was chilly outside and they switched propane tanks around to get the heaters going.

Yelp
So happy to finally try this lovely place out. Unfortunate that there are some mean comments on here but I always give an establishment my open mind before sailing off of what Yelpers say. Aesthetically it's a win in my books. Came in on a sunny day and sat on the patio with friends. Ordering was a breeze. Gentleman at the counter was friendly. The lemonade concentrate was out at the machine so I let him know. Everything that you may need, want or desire is there to dress up your meal. Love the large menu of many different things to try. We went for slices of the Pepperoni Patty, Don Ho, Modest Mouse and Uncle Jesse. All were delicious and packed with flavor. As a big east coast pizza connoisseur, this checked the box. Restaurant was clean and always nice to people watch. Love that it's dog friendly and inclusive to all. Thank you Emily for making this dream a reality and I know Kate would be so proud! Looking forward to a return!

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this adorable spot since it opened. I live in the neighborhood ( Bankers Hill) and drive past daily. Finally made it in. Yum! Yum!!!! My pizza was truly fantastic. The crust had a nice outer crunch and a chewy center. Just the right amount of salty, cheesy, pesto. Nice bottle of pinot Grigio and a crisp salad. Muah! Perfection. I'll definitely be back to try the other pizza pies! So glad it's in my neighborhood. .

Yelp
This place gave off a great local spot feeling. Like it was a neighborhood institution. It was busy on a Saturday but they were keeping up no problem. The staff were cool. They had all kinds of slices in the case so we were all able to order something we were excited about. The pizza was great my favorite slice was the uncle Jesse. Parking can be rough.

Hjfhh J.

Yelp
5/10 for me 1. Hardly any marinara sauce to greasy 2. Burned basil 3. They don't offer a side of ranch or marinara sauce 4. Lastly very dry 5. Over priced Sorry for the review but just a heads-up for next time

Yelp
As a native New Yorker; I'm rather picky about my pizza. This spot definitely fires on all cylinders. I recommend the classic cheese slice. Great ambiance and amazing customer service all around
google avatar

Yueming Q.

Yelp
This is probably the best New York style pizza I've ever had in San Diego. We lived in NYC for years and we brought our friends here who grew up in Brooklyn. We all loved here so much. The pizza is so thin so juicy and flavorful! I highly highly recommend! Even their salad is so delicious. The service is so friendly and helpful. The restaurant is kinda small but very comfortable, they have a big patio outdoor so there are plenty of seats. We will definitely come back!
google avatar

Kris G.

Yelp
I really love Sisters Pizza. Great casual style pizza joint with both indoor seating and outdoor. Their patio is dog friendly and great for the San Diego weather. They call their pizza "east coast style," and I agree. It has a nice crust and is very reminiscent of the pizza I grew up with in NY. To order you head inside to the counter, they will give you a number and then bring it to your table. They usually have beer, wine and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages as well. Another great thing is, you can get a "medium" whole pie or a large OR you can just get a slice or two. Our go-to order for 2 is a medium half cheese/half pepperoni. The size is perfect for two to have a couple slices and have a couple leftover to bring home. If we are super hungry, I also love their mozzarella sticks which are strangely hard to find in San Diego. And their Fried Artichokes with the shaved parmesan and aioli are also really good. And that is saying a lot from a non-veggie eater. I keep wanting to come back and try the meatball sub or the chicken parm sub , but I cannot resist the pizza.
google avatar

Josh F.

Yelp
Sisters Pizza is delicious! Came here when they first opened around 5 years or so, maybe sooner, during the pandemic. Anyways, we ordered a large pizza with double pepperoni on half and Italian sausage with green bell peppers on the other half and it was delicious. The Southwest Salad was good, iced tea was good and the cheese pizza is also tasty. I'm so glad this place is still here and doing well serving up great pizza .
google avatar

Lopez J.

Yelp
Hello, I ran into this place by mistake after a few beers at a near Bar, I saw the display of pizza's sold by the Slice they all looked tempting, but I decided to order the Spaghetti with meat balls and a Cheesecake to go, I can almost taste the authentic flavor in every bite it was so so good and the cheesecake was delicious, the indoor and patio seating looked also very nice and clean lights everywhere perfect for the winter evenings* I will come visit you guys with my entourage very soon !!! BTW the service was great and speedy.
google avatar

Marissa M.

Yelp
Great spot while in the area running errands with mom and dog. Great pizza, salad and the server was really nice and attentive, making sure we were ok. Love the idea behind the restaurant :)

Yelp
Went here yesterday for the first time and I have to say this is the best pizza I've had in San Diego! My cousin who just moved here from New York even attested to the pure deliciousness of it by saying that she had "finally found a slice worthy of New York style." On top of it tasting like the nectar of the gods delivered to you by Zeus himself, the staff was insanely nice and friendly! All of them talk to you like they are nursing you back to health with love. And to be honest the pizza is so good it actually might cure something within you.

Yelp
I will divide my review into three sections; Food, Customer Service, Management FOOD; Subpar...We ordered Grilled Caesar salad, Meatballs, and a Pizza. Their ceasar dressing felt oily but flavor was good. I liked the grilled lettuce. There was a black curly hair in the salad plate, but it was not a big deal for us. We didn't even mention. The meatball was tough. The texture was rubbery. I believe they make the mixture in a dough mixer resulting a paste-like rubber texture. It also had no maillard reaction (browning) on it, so it was either boiled or baked in an overcrowded pan resulting boiling. We didn't like anything about it. I am sad to say this but the pizza was the worst. Both the dough and the tomato sauce were lacking salt. I liked the texture and thickness of the dough and the pepperoni cups, but without the salt, the flavor was missing. CUSTOMER SERVICE; Apps came out quickly but we believe they forgot to fire our pizza as it took around 50 minutes to arrive. I went to check after 30 minutes and the lady who I believe is manager told me that the kitchen is a little busy and it will take another 15-20 minutes. I was okay with that and went back to my table. However, it still wasn't ready after 15 minutes and this time my partner went to check. The cashier in a black polo short apologized and offered to refund the entire check but my partner only accepted the refund for the pizza. He also brought the pizza to our table, apologized to us and was very nice & professional about it. He provided an excellent customer service. MANAGEMENT; Epic fail! My partner left a yelp review. 10 minutes later, the lady who I believe is the manager came to our table with an attitude and asked if we left a review. My partner said yes. Then, she told her that we should have talked to her before leaving a review and made us feel very uncomfortable. Me and my partner both from the industry. She is a manager at one of the most well known North County restaurants, and myself is an executive chef who worked in fine dining restaurants and 5-star resorts for my entire career. I wouldn't leave this review as I consider myself a silent customer. If I don't like my experience, all I do is not returning back. However, the managers approach and attitude was absolutely unacceptable. NOTE: We also noticed that other tables experienced some delays on their orders and complained as well. There was a couple behind us who ordered a sandwich and a pizza. The guy's sandwich served way before the woman's pizza arrived. By the time her pizza was on the table, he already finished his sandwich. Every restaurant knows that this is a NO-NO in industry standards, but the couple was surprisingly fine with that :) I really hope that today was just a bad day for them and this not their standards...

Yelp
So far my favorite pizza spot in SD, so happy we are close by to here! Can't go wrong with any of their pizzas honestly! First off, their staff is very welcoming! One of the owners (who I'm guessing is one of the sisters) has been there each time I've picked up or dined in and she's always chatting with her patrons and dressed so cute!! Def make sure to get one of their apps- calamari fried fresh so it comes out at the perfect temp. Artichokes are nice, cripsy and it's lots of flavor. But if those are not your forte, you can never go wrong with the mozzarella sticks since they have the perfect mozzarella pull! As for pies: Tried the Chicky Chicky Parm Parm, Obecian, Don Ho and the Rooftop BBQ have been our picks! Still need to make way for their entrees on my future visits but I love the pizza so much! You can order either by the slice, whole pies or half and half. Surely, this is our spot when we wants a great meal- highly recommend!

Yelp
I came here for the first time a few weeks ago. The cashier who helped me with my order was fairly friendly. We went on a Monday and the inside was packed so we had to sit outside. The outside seating worked out fine. I ordered a chicken parmesan slice and a ham and sausage slice. I thought the pizza was average, nothing special. I did like the chicken one more than the ham one though. I probably wouldn't come back here.

Yelp
Sisters is reliably great! Friendly, fast, and very tasty. A real neighborhood asset!

Yelp
The cutest little Italian restaurant in this community. I work in the area and it's always a pleasure dining at sisters. My lunch is only 30 minutes and all the ready made pizza is delicious. The salads are so delicious and the quality of the food is amazing and it's very affordable. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. I've never had any issues.
google avatar

Ashlee M.

Yelp
The pizza was so good. We had the uncle Jesse and it was perfect. The mozzarella sticks were delicious. the artichoke appetizer was really good. The only thing that would have made the artichokes better is if they were drained a little more, it was a lot of oil. The service was great, Emily the owner is so personable and made the experience even better! They have a great outdoor space to sit in. Overall great experience!!
google avatar

Joshua M.

Yelp
Sisters Pizza is hands down one of my all-time favorite pizza spots in San Diego! The place is always bustling, which means the food is fresh and made to perfection. Their menu offers a wide variety of pizzas to choose from, and the "Uncle Jesse" is easily one of my top picks. They also have amazing salads that pair perfectly with their pies. Whether you prefer to sit indoors or enjoy the outdoor seating, there's plenty of space to relax and enjoy your meal. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is always incredibly friendly and attentive. It's the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more. If you're in the area and craving pizza, this is a must-visit!

Yelp
Nothing beats a pizza and a beer. Stopped by on a Friday evening and it was relatively busy but there was still available seating and no wait. This is a counter order and sit down type of restaurant which was perfect as we were looking for a quick bite. They also had entrees and appetizers to order, as well as whole pies. I feel like the picture speaks for itself. Will definitely be coming back!

Megadalena N.

Yelp
Not only was the pizza delicious, everyone was so welcoming and nice! The customer service amazing. We got the "Livin' on The Veg" pizza and subbed vegan cheese and vegan sauce. We also got the boardwalk fries without the parmesean. I heard they also do Vegan slices on Wednesdays and they use Follow Your Heart Cheese. There was also a lovely outside area to sit and it was so cozy and relaxing.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
Went for the first time for lunch today. Arguably the best thin crust, NY style, pie in the county. Staff were awesome and prices were reasonable. A must try if you like thin crust pizza. They also had a great outdoor patio area along with beer and wine.
google avatar

Jasmine P.

Yelp
Was ok to me. I like that they sold pizza by the slice. The outdoor dining is super cute with enough seats in the shade. It's mostly outdoor seating so it's a nice spot to enjoy on breezy summer days. My friend and I dined on their patio. I ordered a slice of the Miss Piggy and the Uncle Jesse. I liked the names of the slices and the ingredients. The crust seemed to be missing something/lacking flavor. Maybe I was thrown off because the pizza slices were served on paper plates. Guess I wasn't really expecting that for such a nicely decorated place. When our pizza slices were brought out they were on plates that were stacked on top of each other. I was handed the plate from our server so they wouldn't have to reach all the way across. I was surprised by the hot grease that had transferred to the underside of the plate from the pizza slice underneath it. So just be careful.

Sean H.

Yelp
Absolute incredible pizza. I'm a New York and New Jersey native, this pizza is perfect. The second we walked in we had amazing service. The staff was friendly and awesome, the ambiance was classic and clean, an all around 10/10 spot. We're lucky to have them in our neighborhood.

Yelp
As always, Sisters Pizza does not disappoint. We ordered to pick up. One day we will sit and enjoy the restaurant. Everything was made correctly as requested. We customized our pizza and the meats, cheese, and veggies were all very tasty and looked fresh. The pizza was cooked to be just crispy enough. Will be back!
google avatar

Rohith V.

Yelp
Trying this place for the first time at the recommendation of so many of my friends and it did not disappoint. 2 larges were enough for about 5-6 people and the pizza itself was excellent. Highly recommend the uncle Jesse as the ricotta on the pizza is beautiful.
