A new Taiwanese-fusion restaurant just opened in the old China Max location. Though labeled Taiwanese, it has a strong Japanese influence, specializing in teppanyaki and rice noodles. We went on a Saturday at 6:30 PM, expecting it to be quiet since it’s new—but it was packed! We ordered the black pepper A5 Wagyu teppanyaki, salmon curry teppanyaki, tom yum lobster rice noodles, takoyaki, and fried sweet potato taro balls. Despite the premium ingredients (Wagyu and lobster!), the total was only around $100. The food was impressive! The sizzling teppanyaki dishes smelled amazing. The A5 Wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth tender, pairing perfectly with the black pepper sauce. The crispy rice was a nice touch. The salmon curry was good but slightly overcooked; the curry was mild and needed a bit of salt. The tom yum lobster rice noodles were a surprise favorite—generous portions with lobster, mussels, fish, and quail eggs. Even the broth was too good to leave behind! The takoyaki and sweet potato taro balls were solid. Service was excellent despite the crowd. Overall, a fantastic dining experience—great flavors, good portions, and friendly service. Definitely worth a visit!

Food was okay. The place was very clean. The wait staff genuinely try hard to make you happy. That said, it isn't a place I would intentionally seek it out nor avoid. The wait staff seemed to try hard and are still trying to get their flow figured out (soft opening; 1/30/2025). The menu wasn't clear, especially regarding allergies. I'm allergic to milk and all dairy, so I was limited to the vegan chicken option (everything else supposedly had butter and cheese in it). The black pepper sauce was recommended by the waitress and I found it quite good. The udon noodles were cooked right and the food was very hot (temperature). I appreciated the person dropping off the food reminding me to pour the sauce on the food, mix, then eat. The karaage chicken was tasty, but very overcooked. The sauce that came with the karaage chicken was nothing to write home about. The soda (canned) was nice and cold, which was appreciated after a long day of walking around the zoo. The music is a bit loud, but not overwhelming. Overall, I think they need to clarify the venue and menu to specify what they are offering. ("Sizzling plate" isn't a term I was familiar with) I think they are not in a great location, with a hot pot spot right next to them and kind of hidden. The food was hot and filling, though. Price was okay. I'd go again if I were invited out.

Absolutely incredible addition to Convoy Street. I have always kinda been into the concept of bibimbap, but I’ve always been way more into Japanese or Taiwanese flavors and food. This is the answer to my weirdly specific food leaning on the matter. Honestly, most of the menu was incredibly affordable. Almost everything is under 20 dollars. The exception is the dish I got, which had import Japanese wagyu on it. It was 40 bucks but it was super worth it. Will be coming back.

“I visited this new establishment after the fire incident a while back. The noodles and broth are top-notch quality. I ordered the Beef Rice Noodle (Lama), which comes with tender slices of beef, flavorful spices, and an intense aroma. It’s a great choice for spice lovers like me. The portion size is huge—I’m 220 lbs, and it filled me up

Yelp
But really you want me over for the extra Star was the service for some reason maybe because it was not too busy or server spent extra time explaining the menu and explaining the variety of combinations and explain explaining what was his favorites, including speaking to my mom in Chinese, I think that they took extra care to help show what was important and what was worth picking. We got the salmon sizzling plate and the chicken sizzling plate and I would say overall the chicken sizzling plate was pretty good but the salmon one seemed pretty good also not too dry. It had a lot of options to add in which was both with corn and edamame and onions so for all I would say it was definitely worth Checking out and getting a sizzling plate. The novelty of cooking it yourself and trying it was fun and you could literally taste the heat. During the lunch special, they give you a free green tea and that was pretty good too. I did the mushroom sauce and I would say again overall this was pretty good value for the amount of food that they give you.

Yelp
Stopped by Sizzling House with some friends and, by chance, ran into more friends who were already eating. The staff was awesome and quickly moved us all to a bigger table so we could sit together. Ordering was easy--just scanned a QR code at the table. I got the Sizzling Wagyu Beef. It had solid flavor, and I liked how the rice got crispy on the hot plate. It did feel more like a fried rice dish though--would've been nice if there was a bit more beef. The Mala Spicy Beef Noodles came in the biggest bowl I've ever seen. The noodles were super tender and the broth had great flavor. We also tried the Red Oil Wontons--tasty, but the wrappers could've been thinner. Overall, pretty solid food and really great service. My wife thought she ordered a soda but didn't realize it didn't go through--staff noticed and gave it to us for free, which was a nice touch. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
This place is kinda like a dupe of Pepper Lunch from up north with a few different options! I ordered - SIZZLING SHRIMP RICE + MUSHROOM SAUCE: The portion was nice but most of it was a lot of rice and not much of the other ingredients. The rice was really hard and chunky too, tasted like 1 day old rice tbh. I'd come again to try out the udon option but probably wouldn't get the rice specifically. The service was quick & nice!

Yelp
This restaurant is situated in a very busy plaza with limited parking so I'd recommend coming before the busy crowd during dinner. When we got here right before the rush so it was great. I have a big family so it was spacious and comfortable for us. You order using your phone with a qr code. Food comes out pretty quick and sizzling hot which ia exactly what I love! Portions are very generous especially the soups. A few in our party ordered soups and didn't realize how large the portions are so just keep that in mind. We also ordered the wagyu beef, shrimp and salmon to share. We shared several of these dishes amongst my kids. We ordered both the mushroom(definitely recommended for kids) and black pepper(not recommended for kids as it is spicy). I thought both were tasty. They should probably warn people who are ordering for those(like kids) the black pepper is a bit overpowering and kids/non spice eaters will not enjoy it. I thought everything was good but for the price point the salmon portion should be bigger. It's cut way too thin and the piece is tiny so you're left with tons of rice at the end. Sure, I could have ordered another side of protein but that's besides the point. Overall, staff was nice and food was good. I'd like to come back again to try the udon stir fry.

Kapo K.

Yelp
It felt authentic asian and American at same time. Like the sauce that was offered, quality of the flavor was to my liking. But the quantity the sauce came in was American size. Like, How flavorful do you want your sizzling dish. Asian or overwhelming as in so much flavor you can barely taste the rice and other ingredients? At least I get to control that, quantity so let's keep it that at asian, shall we? Lol

Yelp
I finally got to try this place out after always frequenting Pepper Lunch when I'm in the Irvine area. I was seated immediately and we were instructed to order via a QR code but we were handed physical menus so that we can look at pictures. My go to is always the Wagyu Beef, so I went with what I know. Of course, the meat is never enough, wish there was more for the price point. You can order extra meat on the side if you want. Like Pepper Lunch, they bring out your dish in a sizzling plate. Actually, the robot waiter came to the table, and the waitress came by to serve it to us. I had the Black Pepper sauce, which was good and they provide an ample amount I couldn't finish it but was pleasantly surprised that they give a small serving of your ice cream of choice. They had vanilla or strawberry that day. Of course I chose strawberry and it was great palate cleanser after the meal. Definitely not crowded when I went, restaurant was clean, and seating was comfortable. Definitely will return again!

Yelp
Ordered takeout from Sizzling House and it was honestly a waste of money. The rice was hard and dry, almost like leftover fried rice that had been sitting out too long. There was barely any meat and the portion just felt unbalanced, mostly rice with no flavor. It didn't taste fresh at all. For what they charge, I expected something decent but this felt lazy and thrown together. Really disappointing overall. Wouldn't order again. There are plenty of other places that actually care about their food, even for takeout.

Yelp
If you're craving for some comfort food with sizzling beef and rice or udon noodles, this is the place in San Diego. We ordered the sizzling wagyu beef rice with pepper sauce and the sizzling wagyu beef udon noodles with curry sauce. Both were very filling and delicious. Generous portions. I really liked the curry sauce with the chewy udon. They also have noodle soups which I want to try next time. Great spot with ample seating and it wasn't crowded on a Saturday afternoon. I like that each sizzling entree comes with a complimentary tea beverage as nothing is free anymore. And there's a robot to help the waiter deliver the entrees to the table.
google avatar

Savannah F.

Yelp
They are consistent. Clean. Nice service and delicious food. Water does not have strong tap water taste. I like the cute cat robot that delivers the food. Parking is still a challenge in this plaza. Looking forward to coming here again to try other dishes. Really enjoyed the complimentary ice cream at the end of my dinner

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. So glad that one is now in San Diego. This restaurant is located in Convoy so parking may be a little difficult. The inside is rather large, and we were seated immediately. You order, and a cool robot comes to deliver your food. Remember to mix your sauces in! The food was delicious and the portions are very big. Would definitely come again.

Yelp
Worth the drive and worth the circling of the block or 3 to find parking. The restaurant is open and inviting and has plenty seating for any party size. The restaurant also has ample windows for natural lighting for the best foodie pics! They have regular menus then to order, you would use the QR code on the table. Easy as can be. Food - Chicken Wings - a MUST have for an appetizer. Cooked to perfection and tossed with some sort of savory and sweet dry rub coating. I've never tasted chicken wings like this. It was delicious. - We all ordered the U.S. Wagyu Beef sizzling plate; I ordered the curry one. I typically do not like curry (except for Thai curry) AND meant to order the black pepper sauce instead of curry but ate it anyway and it was delcicious!!! You can order extra portions of the beef, mushroom, corn etc. too. Plate came out sizzling of course. Such a large portion - one order can be shared by 2 or 3 people but I would stick with 2 max. I almost ate all of mine alone because I was STARVING haha. - Beef Rice Noodle (Mala Spicy) with toasted peanuts. It was okay, there was a flavor I didn't really like about it so this was just OK. We believe there was 5 spice in it maybe? Not sure but wasn't a fan of the spice but the noodles and peanuts stuff in the soup were yummy. Large bowl which you can share for up to 4-5 people. The service was exemplary! Waiters came to check in on us and always refilling our waters. I'm definitely bringing my parents here and will be back again soon. This place is Cheryle approved. :)
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Got dinner with some friends here on a Tuesday night. The parking in the lot is usually compact so I prefer to park on the side streets. There no line when we came and the service was pretty quick. They were good at refilling waters. The food was alright. I got the sizzling vegan chicken with udon and black pepper sauce. The flavor was not bad but not something that I would come back for. My friends got the Sizzling Beef with rice and black pepper sauce and said the same things. The miso soup wasn't as hot as I would want and the taste was like it came from a packet.

Yelp
We came on the Fourth of July and were happy to find that they were open and the restaurant was not too crowded. It felt very casual and that was perfect for a quick meal. We were seated quickly and water was brought out almost immediately. Our food came out fairly quickly after we placed our order through the QR code. We got the wagyu beef with the black pepper sauce. It was good, though I felt the rice to meat ratio was a bit off. When we paid we were able to get 10% off for signing up for rewards through the online ordering provider. They also gave a small scoop of ice cream offering both vanilla or strawberry flavors which was a nice touch.
google avatar

Rina K.

Yelp
This is as similar to pepper lunch as you can get here in San Diego. I ordered the sizzling beef udon and the karaage with a friend. The karaage was bad imo lol it was not karaage and tasted more like popcorn chicken that you could get at a boba shop. If you're looking for popcorn chicken then it's fine/good! The beef udon was delicious and a lot of food. I liked pouring my sauce directly onto the plate to get crispy/burnt areas. The service is always fast and if you go during lunch then you can get a free tea as well! They do have a robot delivering meals from time to time which can be a bit overstimulating if you're sensitive to loud noises, FYI (it plays music while moving around)

Yelp
Pepper Lunch, but make it SD! These sizzling plates make for a scrumptiously filling meal. I went with the US Wagyu Beef sizzling plate with Black Pepper Sauce. It comes out pipping hot in a skillet served with a generous mound of rice, slices of beef, edamame, corn, and mushrooms. You just drizzle your sauce of choice on top, mix, and enjoy! A perfect example of a simple meal done right. When comparing this to the famed Pepper Lunch chain, I actually found myself preferring this spot a smidge more! More veggies and bigger portions? They've got my vote.
google avatar

Arnold T.

Yelp
The sizzling plate is not hot enough. Barely made the rice hot. Shrimp was cooked nicely. The curry sauce was just ok. The pepper sauce was better. We didn't know that we can try other sauces on the side. Edamame was very basic. Something that we can get at a grocery freezer and microwave it. It's self service ordering which we didn't like as a first time customer. Employees assume how it works and what we want to order. I would have preferred to talk to someone to give recommendations on what's popular to try. For the price, I would rather go to a Korean Tofu place for the sizzling bowl and get all the side dishes included.

Yelp
First time here and decided to treat myself and got the Japanese A5 Wagyu - definitely worth the price in my opinion! Service is amazing, ordering is super easy since you can do it from your phone. The only gripe I have is that parking can be stressful depending on the time of day. No fault of their own, that's just the nature of Convoy street. Just be prepared to spend quite a bit to find parking and dealing with San Diego drivers - it makes the food all the worth while though!
google avatar

Arleen A.

Yelp
Is it your first time? Not sure what to get? Order the Wagyu sizzling steak with rice, mushroom sauce, and an egg. When it comes out, pour the mushroom sauce around the perimeter of the plate so it sizzles, sprinkle some black pepper on top, and add two scoops of chili oil. I'm telling you!! It's so bomb. Mix and break your egg last. Ughhh! Mine was amazing! The portions are really good. All my girlfriends could only eat half their plates and took the rest home. I'm big back, so I finished the whole thing! The sizzling rice plate is simple, comforting, and satisfying. I also ordered the chicken karrage to share, and it was solid too! All in all, I'm most definitely coming back. Tip: Park on the side street since the lot is chaotic.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place because it was like Japan's Pepper Lunch. We arrived for early dinner. There is a big parking lot but the commercial center does get pretty busy and parking spaces can get a little tight. We were welcomed and seated right away. You're able to order through the QR code at the table. Menu is simple but they offer many choices from the appetizers, sizzling plates, to soup dishes. We ordered the wagyu sizzling plate and the food came to our table so quick. The food was delicious just like Pepper Lunch! We will be coming back to try their other dishes!

Yelp
Sizzling house is located in the plaza by China Max as the former The concept is similar to that of Pepper Steak up in Irvine. They specialize in sizzling plates of protein (US wagyu beef, Japanese A5 Wagyu beef, salmon, shrimp, chicken, vegan chicken) served over rice or udon. You get to select from 3 different sauces: black pepper, mushroom, or Japanese curry. You can also add toppings such as edamame, corn, cheese, and egg. They also serve ramen. There is a QR code that you can to place your order. If you have any questions, the staff are very pleasant and are helpful. I got the US wagyu beef on udon with mushroom sauce. It comes out in a sizzling plate similar to that of bibimbap. You pour the sauce over and mix the ingredients together and making sure the protein gets fully cooked. It smelled so good and tasted even better! I loved the mushroom sauce over the black pepper sauce. Just a heads up, you will come out smelling like your order so be prepared. The space is pretty big and the right

Yelp
Finally, we have a sizzling plate spot in San Diego! Ever since I tried the popular Japanese restaurant Pepper Lunch many years ago, I have loved sizzling plates since. I love that Sizzling House brings this awesome concept to San Diego. Now I don't have to drive all the way to Anaheim to get my fix! The restaurant is brand new, just a couple of months open when I first tried it. It's located in a very very busy shopping center in Convoy (as usual with these centers, hard to find parking FYI!) where the China Max and Bonchon are located. There are lots of tables though and the service is pretty fast (both via personnel and electric robots). I actually placed an incorrect order at first but the servers were so very nice and accommodating to get me the correct order. As for the food, the sizzling plates did not disappoint. I tried the US Wagyu Beef Rice plate, which comes with a good serving of rice, corn, cheese (I added extra) and a good portion of meat. The food was sizzling as advertised and the black pepper sauce that you pour onto your plate (you can also choose mushroom or curry sauce) was the perfect companion to enhance the flavor. By the way, you can also choose udon noodles instead of rice if you prefer. They also have large...and I mean LARGE soup bowls on their menu. We tried the Chicken Rice Noodle and the Thai Seafood Noodle bowls and they were tasty and filling. They also have a decent amount of appetizers, which we got the Chicken Wings and they were solid and seasoned well. I also love that your meals come with a free green tea (either iced or not, and sweet or not). You also order from your table via QR code, which was quick and efficient. Looking forward to coming back. Eyeing the Japanese Wagyu special next time!

Yelp
The complex is hard to find parking so usually end up on the streets nearby. Thankfully, there's lots of tables so I can't imagine very long waits once you're inside. The service was polite and pleasant but the ordering experience was not the best. They give you paper menus but the expectation is that you'll notice the QR code and order that way. The menu seems simple but not all the combinations for the sizzling plates are allowed together and the choices weren't made super clear. I'm still unclear why they asked for how well done I wanted the steak - it's going to cook the same either way. It would be nice to see more drink options. The atmosphere is a bit loud, we felt like we were yelling across the table to be heard. Between the music, the sizzling, and the delivery robot noises it was a bit much. Food came out quickly. Taking off one star for the wagyu beef being tough and the mushroom sauce not being very good. But the American wagyu steak and black pepper sauce was fantastic. As many other reviewers have said, the two wagyu steak dishes seem to be the highlight. All the flavors came together perfectly. I imagine the Japanese a5 was more tender but the American one was perfectly fine. Definitely going back!

Yelp
This space used to house a Taiwanese hot pot restaurant before the fire at China Max consumed a good chunk of the aging structure. Now that the rebuild is nearly complete, Sizzling House has opened for business within the past week. The inside was clean and modern with a seating capacity of close to 100 customers. The cuisine style was sizzling plates and rice noodle bowls. Eight appetizers, two don bowls (currently unavailable), and drinks rounded out the menu. I requested the Red Oil Wontons as an appetizer and then asked about the sizzling plates. The two columns on the menu page looked identical including the prices. I was informed that the left set of photos contained white rice and the right set of photos had udon noodles as the carb. I ultimately selected the US Wagyu Beef as the protein with udon noodles and Japan curry sauce. Two other sauces were offered, Black Pepper and Mushroom. A complimentary bowl of miso soup was provided first followed by the wontons which came as six pieces with chili oil, cilantro, and green onions sprinkled on top. The spiciness of the dumplings was moderate for my palate. The sizzling plate arrived as a round cast iron dish with a wrapping around the perimeter that instructed the diner to "Stir & Mix To Enjoy." The contents were steaming hot and had lima beans, corn kernels, and red onion as veggie toppings. The curry flavor was mild but hearty. More meat was needed as you can see from my photo that the amount of beef was sparse. I did enjoy the sizzling style of cooking as I haven't encountered anything quite like this in the Convoy District. It wasn't a typical individual hot pot because there wasn't a broth. I would describe it as meat and gravy over rice/noodles cooked in a cast iron vessel. The current soft opening period promotion was 15% off the bill which I am unsure how long this discount will continue.

Yelp
My sisters and I really wanted to try this spot out so we stopped by for lunch on a Friday. It wasn't too busy so we were seated quickly and the wait for our food was very short. We ordered online with a QR code at the table, which was very easy to do. Our entrees came out first before the appetizer. We had two sizzling US Wagyu beef udon with the black pepper sauce, a sizzling US Wagyu beef rice with curry sauce, and added eggs to our meals. The meat and eggs were cooked pretty quickly on the hot stone plates and everything tasted great. The red oil wontons were good and had a nice spice level to it as well. With everything we had, we all left pretty full and with some leftovers!

Yelp
To far to go to Pepperlunch, so this is the best you can get (thus far) in San Diego. Service is very quick since I assume the hotplates are ready to go they just need to put your requested ingredients on your plate. Then it cooks while you wait. They should ask you if you've ever been here or is this your first time. Something in that nature because we were like where's the menu. YES, there was a QR code at the end of the table, but we didn't see that instantly. Anyways, you order right on your phone and you don't have to just use one phone to order the entire table. You can write your name and I assume that QR code is specific to the table, so it automatically just gets added to one bill. Kinda neat since you can just take your time and customize your order. This time around I had the black pepper sauce, but I think I will try the mushroom one next time. I like that the sauce comes in its on bowl, so you can control how much of it you want on. Didn't do the A5, but that is something I want to try in the future. Only down fall is the parking. Ugh...prime eating time forget it. You are parking on the street and walking. We actually had to park at the very end of the street and walk. You can wait, but it is much faster to find a parking spot on the street and walk. Even street parking might be a little tricky. We got the last one on the street. See you guys soon....we will be back.

Yelp
Similar concept to "Pepper Lunch" - protein with rice on a sizzling hot plate. We got the wagyu sizzling rice with pepper sauce and it was tasty. Good portion size as well. I added corn but it did come with corn AND edamame as mentioned in another review. We also tried the mala noodles with beef. There is a bug with their ordering system where the field to "change broth" is required, so you are forced to pay an extra dollar to select mala broth even though it's the default broth for that dish. We voiced this with the server and he took our order manually to bypass that issue. Mala broth is pretty spicy. Noodles were tasty but not super stand out. Chicken wing appetizer was okay - good portions for the price but I'm not a super big fan of the seasoning. They are super super new (still installing TV monitors when we came in LOL) so I think there are a few improvements they can make to make the experience even better! - Fix the QR code ordering app bug - Hand out the appropriate utensil based on the order (we did not get chopsticks or a spoon to eat our noodles until we asked) - When serving food, hold the bowl at the bottom and not touch the rim of the bowl for hygiene reasons - Get Spotify premium so customers don't have to keep listening to ads haha The sizzling menu items are unique and I think will be able to attract more people to visit. With these minor adjustments the overall experience will be even smoother.

Yelp
Sizzling House is comparable to the more commonly known hot plate restaurant, Pepper Lunch. This is located a few doors down from China Max & Yi Fang Boba off of Convoy. We went here for an early dinner on a Monday. Crowd was steady and built up during our visit. My friend and I tried their US Wagyu Sizzling Plate with the mushroom and curry sauces. This place definitely has bigger portions than PL. I usually don't have leftovers but I had to take some home because they give you plenty of rice & meat. the plates are flavorful and aromatic. I particularly enjoyed my friend's curry sauce. The curry is not too overpowering. You also can add more ingredients like cheese, edamame, corn, etc although the standard plate already has them. Service is excellent. Some orders are delivered via a robot but the servers still place the hot plates on your table. They were also diligent about checking up on us to make sure our needs were met & food were to our satisfaction. Place is spacious & clean. I love their bowl wall and the rattan chandeliers. I will definitely go back again even if I have to fight for a parking spot in this very hectic complex in Convoy.

Yelp
The concept reminded us of Pepper Lunch. We came in an hour before closing and didn't feel rush at all. Once seated, you will order from your phone using the provided QR code. We were advised that they use Wagyu beef for their beef plates. The food came out quickly. Generous servings and delicious flavors. Be warned, you will come out smelling like your food. The other staff came to check up on us. Overall it was a good experience. Given the cost of plates nowadays, you are looking at closer to almost $20 a plate. I like how they offer appetizers, soups as well as udon noodles. It is in the same complex as China Max and Bonchon so parking be a little bit difficult.

Yelp
Having been to pepper lunch once a long time ago, we were excited to try a very similar concept at home in San Diego! Given that it has recently opened, there was quite a bit of hype and it took a little bit for us to be seated. Once seated, you order for your table via QR code on your smartphones. For nostalgia's sake, we ordered the Black Pepper Rice and the Black Pepper Udon. Each dish comes with corn and edamame, so no need to order it as an option unless you want extra! Given the high costs all around the area, I felt like this spot was also reasonably priced! Both items were really good, and hit the spot. It is just a good as the other spots and I am grateful to have this place in San Diego.

Yelp
Decent meal nothing to rave about. My fiancé got the curry sizzling wagyu beef - there was more rice than meat. I got the black pepper steak, it came with veggies and a side of rice & miso soup- the soup had a weird almost alcohol aftertaste? We also got the chicken karaage, sauce was good but the chicken could've been crispier. At the end of our meal we were given complimentary green tea ice cream.

Yelp
Sizzling House is a new addition to the Convoy area and a great spot for lunch! There was a good amount of seating inside and my family were seated fairly quickly. You order your food by scanning a QR code at the table and it'll send your order to the kitchen. Quick and easy interface for this process! I opted for the US Wagyu Beef with Udon Noodles and black pepper sauce. I paid extra for an egg, which was a perfect addition to the dish! The egg made the noodles nice and creamy with the black pepper sauce having a great umami flavor. They also have tableside chili oil which adds a great spicy, smoky flavor. Overall, a great-tasting and simple meal! I would definitely recommend Sizzling House for anyone looking for a new place to eat around Convoy and I'll definitely be back to try other dishes on their menu!

Yelp
Nice clean establishment. Liked that they had the air conditioning pumping so you don't go home smelling like a barbecue. The service was good. We didn't have to wait to be seated on a Friday night. The food was really good. You order your food through your phone and they bring out your hot sizzling plate. I ordered the wagyu beef udon noodle. I like that it was flavorful and the beef was tender. I order an egg on the side, so it made it that much better. I can't wait to come back and try something else their menu. Thank you Sizzling House for a delicious first time.

Yelp
Sizzling hot plate & noodles. Great place for good food. You will not leave here hungry. The food was flavorful and piping hot. You order your food through the QR code, and they bring it out to you. The restaurant was clean and has great air conditioning so you don't leave smelling like barbecue. If you are in the area come by and try it out you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Saw this Pepper Lunch dupe recently opened down in San Diego, so we had to come check it out while they were offering a soft opening discount. There's a Yelp waitlist that you can check into once you get to the restaurant, but luckily we were able to be seated immediately at 6pm on a Sunday. Order off the QR code, which compiles everything into one order per table. But you'll have to pay with an actual staff member at the end. I ordered the US Wagyu Beef Sizzling Plate and added extra corn since I didn't realize the sizzling plates already come with corn, cheese, and edamame. I don't think it's worth paying extra for any of the toppings...my friend also ordered extra cheese and there was only a tiny bit more. For $1, I feel like they could give way more. Maybe they could also consider updating the menu to say "extra cheese" instead of "add cheese" to make things less ambiguous. We also got quail eggs on the side, one order comes with 3 eggs. Overall, I wasn't super impressed by the sizzling plate for the price point. I'd still consider coming back later though after they're more established so see if anything has changed/improved, or to try their other menu items like the noodle dishes.

Yelp
Sizzling House is reminiscent of the chain Pepper Lunch, with its sizzling hot plates that you mix your food on. They had a 15% discount for soft opening, so we decided to come check it out. - PARKING - This lot, similar to many other Convoy lots, is very impacted. We ended up parking on an adjacent street and walking a block. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - They have a Yelp waitlist tablet available, but since it wasn't too busy when we arrived, we were seated immediately. You order off the QR code on your table, and food came out within 10-15 minutes. We had to ask for water cups initially but throughout the meal they refilled often. - FOOD - Wagyu Udon ($17.99): Take note that all sizzling plates come with corn, cheese and edamame already. We thought we needed to add them on, so we ended up with extra toppings. I do wish there were more topping/add-ons. I chose the Black Pepper sauce and I liked it more than the Mushroom sauce my fiance got. I also wish they had extra sauce on the table. The wagyu pieces were tender, but you don't get much. I'm not a huge eater but was able to finish this meal. Although a bit fuller than I like to be, I was able to leave without leftovers, so that made me feel like the price was a bit high for the portion size. - OVERALL - Glad to have a sizzling plate restaurant in San Diego, but unsure if I will return.

Yelp
Was excited to try out this restaurant since they opened recently! Unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. Menus and ordering is done on your device via QR code. Prices are higher than I expected, but I went for the US wagyu beef rice dish anyway. Food looked promising at first, but turned out to be extremely tough and chewy. Certainly not worth the price. Aside from the meat quality, the customer service was definitely lacking. I came with a group of 6 and the majority of us had incorrect orders. We told the employees that something was wrong, but the most they had to offer was "sorry". Not once did they offer to fix what was incorrect. If you're coming in a big group, make sure to order everything on one device. Their ordering system is not quite there yet and I was informed there were still technical issues if everyone orders on their own device. I won't be coming back.

Yelp
I went to Sizzling House yesterday, and I had a decent experience! I went around closing time (around 8pm), and there was a short wait for a party of 2. When our table was ready, our host sat us but unfortunately did not explain that we had to order off of a QR code. Although we were able to figure it out, it would be helpful for future customers to receive this explanation (especially for older adults). We both ordered our own Sizzling U.S. beef wagyu w/ the black pepper sauce & an egg add-on. It actually took quite a bit of time for our food to arrive (probably around 45+ minutes). During this time, no one really came to check in on us, so we were unsure if our order even went through. Later, the food came out HOT and sizzling. I loved this because I dislike room temperature meats and rice. They provide you with your sauce on the side, which you can pour on top of your plate. I wish they provided you with a tad bit more sauce though--it felt a bit insufficient in comparison to the amount of rice and meat you receive. I had to instead add more pepper on top to get a tad bit more flavor. The food, itself, was delicious though. The beef was quite tender, and the dish was savory. I definitely recommend adding an egg to your plate--I think it paired perfectly with the rice and meat. Overall, I think there are a few areas that Sizzling House can improve on. For instance, although the workers were nice, the service was sub-par. I think they checked in on our table maybe once after we ordered our food. I also think their food could improve so much more with just a tad bit of extra sauce.

Yelp
A solid place if you're craving sizzling hot plates or a hot bowl of noodles! Located where tasty pot used to be, this restaurant specializes in sizzling platters of rice or udon with various meats like beef, chicken, shrimp, salmon, vegan chicken, etc. The sizzling platters come with your choice of black pepper sauce or curry sauce. They also have hot noodle soups like golden chicken soup, mala beef, Thai, tomato based soups. Their appetizers include things like chili wontons, chicken wings, chicken karaage, etc. We chose the 1) beef rice sizzling hot plate with black pepper sauce. It came out literally sizzling with a mound of rice, shredded cheese, oyster mushrooms, corn, edamame and beef. The seasoning was spot on, slightly sweet and peppery. I loved how the meat gets a nice crusty char if you let it sit long enough. This dish was filling and flavorful. Don't forget to add some of their house chili oil for a spicy kick! 2) the mala beef noodles like huge! I feel this could easily feed 2 people! It had a lot of fun things included like quail eggs, mushrooms, pickled mustard greens, etc. I love how the soup came out piping hot and had a nice level of spice. If you go at lunch, you get complimentary green iced tea which was nice and floral. Prices are very reasonable for the amount/ portion sizes.

Yelp
I came here with some friends for dinner on a week night. We are able to get seated immediately. I got the waygu beef sizzling plate with rice and pepper sauce. As expected, the sauce had a mild kick to it. The plate itself was flavorful but I felt like there was a lot of rice for the amount of meat given. It made for some good left overs the following day. Parking here can be rough and tight. I'd recommend street parking if possible!

Yelp
Let's just say, I will definitely be back here. This restaurant was great. The only downside is that the parking is shared with many other businesses and is very limited. The restaurant is pretty spacious and nicely appointed with various decorations. If you've been to Peppered Steak, this restaurant is very similar. I had the Sizzling Us Wagyu Beef with the black pepper sauce, and it was fantastic. The perfect amount of heat in the skillet, the perfect amount of sauce, ample garlic butter, and a nice portion of rice. The dinner also came with a small ice cream. Try this place if you haven't yet!

Yelp
Service: 3/5 ordering through phone was convenient and they bring out the food hot and fresh. It would've been better if they come by at the table to check up on you if you need something. Ambiance: 5/5 Cool thing is they have the robot server Food: 4/5 Food is good and some are okay

Yelp
I had the Sizzling Vegan Chicken which I read some of the reviews were not as good however I thought it was amazing. The portion was huge for my appetite and I had a side order of Miso Soup. The order arrived with a robot. Also with garlic sauce. I stirred it in and right away you can hear the sizzling sound... it was nice and hot. Also added some chili sauce ...gotta love it It was delicious! The Miso Soup wax warm. Someone also gave a bad review that it tasted like it came out of a ready made packet...the soup was nice and warm, maybe because we got there once Theo opened at 5pm... All of our portions were huge! I even finished my wife's big bowl..she ordered the Seafood Bowl Thumbs up We'll definitely coming back....

Yelp
Previously a Taiwanese hot pot spot, this place has been renovated into a Taiwanese-style noodle restaurant. My friend and I tried their sizzling teppanyaki udon stir-fry this time. Here's how it works: 1 Step 1:Choose your protein--options like chicken, beef, salmon, or shrimp. 2 Step 2: Pick a sauce (black pepper, mushroom, or Japanese curry). You can also add an extra protein for an additional cost. My personal take? It was just okay--nothing special. The teppan stuck easily, so I had to keep stirring to prevent burning. However, my friend enjoyed it! If you're into stir-fried noodles, it might be worth a try, but temper your expectations

Yelp
I won't be back. In fact I would have walked out once I found out that you order from scanning a bar code. And I bet they will still want a big tip despite not providing any customer service other than bringing the food to your table but the customer does all the other work. Only reason I didn't turn and walk out is because the 2 people in my party wanted to stay. The food isn't even going to be worth writing about as I am so off put by their process. I'm sure some would like it but I do and so I won't be back. If I wanted to do all the work myself other than cooking it is go to McDonald's.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while. Decided to come here with my one best friend. There were not many empty seats but didn't have to wait too long. Not too loud in the restaurant and love the robots bringing about the food . We ordered the wagyu beef rice with Japanese curry sauce and it was so good. Will definitely come back here again .

Yelp
If you're in need of a meal that stays hot the entirety of the time, Sizzling House if your spot! The old Tasty Pot location has kept its interior design almost the same as I pulled into the plaza and recognized the location. Ordering takes place at the scan of a QR code on the table. I ordered the Sizzling Beef Slices with Black Pepper Sauce. Melty cheese, corn, edamame, slices of king mushroom, and a slab of butter were the toppings of the dish. The sauce was quite peppery. I liked the serving dish and how the sauce comes on the side. The ratio of sauce was enough to coat the rice evenly. It was flavorful but not too salty, with the extra heat of the black pepper I was getting hot! The service was fast and there was not wait as I came pretty late for a dinner. I'd try the udon next time!
