Smaller Las Vegas restaurant closings in 2020 | Eater Vegas

"A southwest dining concept that let each diner individually cook their own dishes — which opened the previous March — closed on January 29 and will convert into a Cajun seafood restaurant on February 3, with the existing team involved in the transition." - Susan Stapleton

Sizzle Hut reveals an opening date and menu | Eater Vegas

"Opening in the southwest with a soft launch on Feb. 23 (noon–midnight), this grill-your-own-proteins concept lets each diner cook at their own sizzling plate — turning meats roughly every 15 seconds — in a casual, kid-friendly space. The spot replaces a former tea house near the intersection of Windmill Lane and Rainbow Boulevard and is prepared similarly to Japanese DIY teppan restaurants. Appetizers include chicken karaage with fries, crispy calamari, a “Chef’s cheese board,” jamón Ibérico Paleta Bellota, and kurobuta sausage; the soup offering is an uncommon corn chowder upgraded with foie gras. Each sizzling plate comes with mashed potatoes and protein choices such as sliced chuck beef, rib-eye steak, teriyaki chicken, salmon, pork belly, garlic shrimp, or braised or deep-fried tofu. Desserts are family-friendly and include Oreo cheesecake, tiramisu, and a banana split." - Bradley Martin

Sizzle Hut is on the Way | Eater Vegas

"Created by the operators of a Spring Valley boba shop and a Japanese- and Thai-inspired curry spot in the northwest, this new standalone restaurant is moving into the shuttered Pot Tea Social House — a former New Day Cafe — near the intersection of Windmill Lane and Rainbow Boulevard. Aiming to open by the end of January or shortly after, the concept centers on quality, thinly sliced meats served on a hot plate that diners cook themselves to their preferred doneness, anywhere from rare to well done; the format is similar in style to Japanese “D-I-Y Teppan” establishments." - Bradley Martin

New name Asian Hut Very clean and airy, food was great too

Google
Very nice people working here. The dining area is still closed due to the pandemic, but they are very quick for take-out orders. I bet I only waited 5-7 minutes. The lunch special prices are as good as it gets when it comes to value for money. We gave barely twenty dollars for two entrees, dumplings, and three egg rolls! This is certainly a solid option for lunch.

E R.

Google
Ordered carry out this evening, and I am impressed. Their beef fried rice was probably the best I've ever had. The beef was tender and flavorful and the rice was perfect. Portion size was nice as well. My husband said the pork egg rolls were the best he's ever had also. We will be eating here again!

Google
Tried this place out for the first time this weekend, it's about time we did! We're so grateful to have a place like this right down the street from us. Prices are VERY reasonable and food was good quality. Friendly service. Will be back for the family dinner specials, such great value for what you get! This is pretty standard basic american Chinese, nothing fancy, but that's exactly what we wanted. Honestly these days given inflation and corporate greed, I would recommend this as a cheaper and superior quality option than fast food! Support your locally owned businesses!

Ashlee G.

Google
My orders are always accurate and the food is always excellent! My favorites are the Orange Chicken and House Special Lo Mein. 10/10 would recommend!

Kristen L.

Google
This was our first but certainly not last visit to Sizzling Hut. I placed my order online and I stopped in earlier than expected and left with our order 10 minutes earlier than promised. The hot and sour soup was delicious and the kung pao chicken was full of peppers and onions and a delicious sauce.

Google
Always delicious food, very friendly staff & great for quick Take Out. (Beef & Broccoli)

Jade H.

Google
The food is delicious! My husband and I lived in Japan for about 5 years and are very picky about our Asian cuisine. My husband is also a professional chef. Their take out is expedient, service is very friendly, very high quality dishes, accurate orders and ample portions. We prefer Sizzling Hut to the competing Chinese restaurant in DeForest.

Yelp
The new owners are so pleasant and down to earth. The service is great and the food is exceptional! 10 out of 5 stars.

Brain S.

Yelp
Always worth the wait. Spring rolls are outrageously delicious. Not a curry guy but the other dishes are great

Joe J.

Yelp
I waited 25 minutes for my food, when I complained, they said they were busy taking care of Carrie out orders my food would be ready in 10 minutes. I asked for my money back and suddenly my food was ready. I must say the food was not good and do not recommend this place
google avatar

Nicole J.

Yelp
We ordered the squash curry and the red curry with chicken. The flavors were delicious! We also ordered the spring rolls which were just OK. Our order took over an hour to prepare, but it had been a Friday night. Will definitely try it again.

M W.

Yelp
The reviews listed here are almost entirely for the previous restaurant, Sizzling Hut, and have nothing to do with this new business. The new owners just opened in September 2025, yet they're using reviews that date back years from a completely different restaurant and ownership. They claimed they'd have the same menu items and more, but in reality, they only offer maybe 5% or less of what Sizzling Hut. This is a different restaurant, with a different menu, staff, and management, and it's misleading to use another business's reputation and reviews to attract customers. If you're the new owners, start fresh, be honest, and earn your own ratings. Don't build on someone else's hard-earned reputation when the experience and food aren't even close to the same.

Daryl W.

Yelp
They really are not up and running fully yet. Limited menu but what they do serve is okay. It's too bad because it really could be great if they got their act together.

Matt A.

Yelp
We tried it shortly after reopening from previously being Sizzling Hut. It tasted like they are using better quality ingredients. Everything was very tasty.

Rosanne S.

Yelp
Unfortunately, they currently don't offer chinese food, only Tai and Hmong. The menu doesn't have any chinese food listed. The restaurant itself has been updated, which is nice. The sign on the front of the business says they are new owners and they have the same food as well as new items, which is not true. We will be waiting to see if they expand their menu to include chinese food.

Hailey G.

Yelp
Best Chinese food around Sun Prairie!! Friendly safe and quick service. We got the garlic chicken and egg rolls. 5 stars!
google avatar

Rob I.

Yelp
They are becoming our go to for take-out Chinese food. Only issue I've ever had turned out to be my fault as I got what I ordered but I didn't order what I thought. Duh! They prefer cash and I don't blame them. Get there earlier than they say because they are very fast. There is a dining area but I don't know if I have ever seen more than one table in use.

Mike A.

Yelp
We have been loyal customers for years, but last night's visit will be our last. The prices have gone up significantly, and the quality was worse than it used to be. A meal for two costed over $50, which is astounding for Chinese food. Granted, we both ordered fried rice with our dinners, but still... This would have been fine if the quality had been the same as in the past; it wasn't. I won't say it was horrible, because it wasn't. But it was highly mediocre. I had the General Tso's chicken as usual. It lacked any heat at all, even after I added some Sambal to it. My wife had the Kung Pao Bean Curd, which she also found rather flavorless. It was loaded with green peppers, and way too much sauce. Both are marked as spicy on the menu. Neither were, in the least. Her egg roll was filled with nothing but cabbage. In the future, we'll be making our own Chinese.
google avatar

Jenn H.

Yelp
Favorite Chinese place. Food is fresh and hot. Staff is friendly. Restaurant is too small to eat in though.
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
We decided to try this place based on a recommendation from a friend. We are SO glad we did. The quality of their food is exceptional and flavors are great. We have been back multiple times. They even offer some coupons with orders. We can get 4 meals and a appetizer platter for $35. The portions are generous so we typically have lots of left overs. Some of our favorites are the teriyaki pan noodles, crab rangoons, cream cheese rangoons, sesame chicken, and chicken lo mein. We typically order online and food is ready quickly, about 20-25 minutes. There is a small seating area, however, the online ordering system says "take out only" and we have never seen anyone dining in. If you are east of Madison and looking for a great Chinese place, this is it!

Jacque N.

Yelp
Just ate here tonight for the first time. We had the Teriyaki Chicken, the Chicken fried Rice and the Egg foo yung. Everything was delicious. The prices were extremely reasonable and the serving sizes were very large. Thank you so much for everything. We will be back!

Peng L.

Yelp
I love the teriyaki chicken! It's perfectly charred and has a light crisp to it. The sauce isn't too overly sweet. If you're going to order it in the lunch-special, make sure to ask them to separate it from the rice as the sauce drowns the fried rice out unless you like it that way. From my experience, most prep times average between 10-15 mins for 1-2 entrees. Most of the chicken entrees are good. Can't speak for much else on the menu yet.
google avatar

Allison G.

Yelp
Sizzling hut is our favorite restaurant for Chinese takeout! The lo mein, orange chicken, and sesame chicken are delicious! The service is great and is always very quick as well.

David B.

Yelp
Since moving to DeForest in 2019 never a bad experience both pick up or eating in. Example: Carry out Happy Family Meal, Chicken Lo Mein, and Egg Foo Young. All excellent. Enough for that meal for three and leftovers for 8 more adult meals. Bill was less than $50.00 including tip. You do the math.
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
Sizzling Hut is my favorite Chinese restaurant ever. I drive over 30 minute from Madison to get their lunch special. The chicken teriyaki is the best I've had, and I've had a lot. Some how the outside is crunchy like it's been slightly fried (but it's not clearly not fried), but the chicken is juicy and never over cooked. It's all then covered in an amazing teriyaki sauce and mixed with fresh vegetables and placed on a warm bed of rice. Once you factor in the price for the food, it's a deal. The food is amazing for how little it costs, I would pay so much more how large of a serving I get! Additionally, the people who work here are very kind and sweet. You can get a discount if you pay in cash, which of course I never have. On more then one occasion the workers have tried to give me money out of THEIR OWN tip jar to try and give me the cash discount. I honestly love Sizzling Hut and strongly recommend this place to everyone who likes Chinese food and Chicken Teriyaki.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Food is tasty and the service was really fast. Portions are huge and the costs is minimal for what you're getting. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Azure C.

Yelp
This is the best American-Style Chinese food I've had in the Madison area. I see some reviews here criticizing the appearance of the dining area and having sat down to eat here 2 times I can sort of relate. Both times we ate here the place was empty and it did seem that they were slow to get the tables cleaned. I'm assuming this is because they do most of their business as take-out and delivery (we saw many people coming in for takeout while we were eating our meal). That being said both times we ate here our server was attentive and polite. The 5 stars I'm giving are for the food alone. It is delicious and fresh. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Angie N.

Yelp
Absolutely my most favorite Chinese restaurant I love Sherry and David. Authentic home cooked Chinese food with great prices.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
The food was tasty and the prices are reasonable. Please note that they egg rolls are very small. They are the size of a spring roll. Otherwise, a pleasant experience. Fresh and good food is always a win.

Tammy B.

Yelp
I can't say enough good about this restaurant, and the owners, Cheri and Michael. They make delicious, authentic Chinese food! The friendly owners really care about the quality of their foods too! The vegetables they use are FRESH and always cooked - tender-crisp. The carry-out foods are prepared fast and the servings are large at very reasonable prices. They will make your entrees as hot, or not-hot as you like too - just ask. And if you have allergies (like to gluten or nut, etc), just tell them and they will be sure to avoid that allergen (I have a daughter with gluten allergy). Their food is so good. The hot and sour soup is amazing and they have foods kids would like, for example: French Fries and fresh donut holes and they make a great chicken noodle soup, shrimp skewers and the teriyaki chicken is very delish! Everything is really! I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant! Also, the Sizzling Hut sign is not lit up but their OPEN sign is so don't let that stop you from stopping in! :)
google avatar

Yi Cai Z.

Yelp
Alright people. Sometimes you want authentic Chinese food and sometimes you want Americanized Chinese food. When it's the latter, come here and you'll be delighted. This is the best place in all of Madison and surrounding suburbs. (I've tried many and been disappointed many times) Prices are great. The flavor is always spot on and not greasy. The owners are sweet and friendly. Go here now.
google avatar

Jerry R.

Yelp
It's honestly not the best Chinese food I've ever had in America, but it's better than average and the portions are enormous. My wife and I each ordered a dish and we wound up finishing only half; we could easily have split one -- and I'm a big eater. The staff is friendly and the service prompt. It was nice to find this lovely restaurant in such a small, out of the way village.

Yvonne B.

Yelp
Highly recommend the family dinner. Able to split the dinner for 2 to serve 4 people. General Tso's Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken were affordable and delicious.
google avatar

Aileen C.

Yelp
My first carry out order was perfect. I ordered the Bao Bao Platter and asked for a couple of the items to be swapped easily. The chicken skewers and coconut shrimp is probably the best I ever had in the Midwest. Loved the entrees received, but the main highlight was the service. He may have been the owner, but he was friendly and flexible when I tacked on an order of donuts. Wish I lived closer!
google avatar

Peggy F.

Yelp
If I could give this restaurant no stars, I would. First, the restaurant was empty except for my husband and I. We were told to seat ourselves and found at least 3 dirty tables that needed to be bused yet in looking for a place to sit. The service was also lacking. The hostess/waitress had a horrible body odor and couldn't speak to anything about the food or menu. The water I ordered tasted gross and like I was from old rusty pipes. I had one sip and was done. Appetizers: Cheese Rangoon's - okay, but sauce was not good. Pork Eggrolls - Good. Nothing special. Fried Wontons - my husband liked them. Soups: Hot and Sour - waitress said it did not have tofu in it when in fact it did. Also tasted disgusting. Wonton Soup - lacked any kind of flavor. Dinner: First waitress couldn't recommend which of 3 entrees was most popular or "better". Also couldn't tell me what vegetables were in the Hunan chicken and when asked wouldn't go find out either. She stuck her fingers inside the food dishes she was serving (eww), and we had to take the soups off her tray for her. Kung Pao Chicken - first order was wrong. Then when it was brought back, it did not taste good. Hunan Chicken - again not as ordered. Flavorless. We brought this up to the hostess/waitress who then asked so you want me to take off... instead of sincerely caring about our experience and food. We will never come back here again.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in deforest by far. You can't beat their lunch specials. $3.95 can you believe that!? I love this place. Totally worth the visit.
google avatar

deb r.

Yelp
First time take out last night. Wow, this is a hidden surprise! Great food, great pricing. Impressed! We will be back. Note, this is a small family style restaurant, don't knock them for not having the polish of the chains you might be used to. The restaurant appeared clean and organized. The food more than makes up for any polished decor they may be lacking.

J R.

Yelp
Awesome food, great prices. Best hot and sour soup around. Friendly owner as well.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Who knew this place existed in Deforest? If I had I would have tried it much sooner. We started with Crab Rangoon which was delicious! We ordered Mongolian Beef and General Tso's chicken and both of them were very tasty. The vegetables were very fresh. We were there for a dinner on a Monday night and the restaurant itself was slow for dining in - but the phone for take out was ringing off the hook. The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty bland and so-so and the service was a little off, but only because the woman running the place was also answering the phone non-stop. The good food made up for it. Definitely worth a try if you like Chinese food and don't mind a little lack of character and ambiance for some good eats.
google avatar

Brian E.

Yelp
Friday night, we were the only 4 customers, which was great, as was the food. Our server explained that it was a big take-out night, so the dining room was open, and the service was excellent as well. Teriyaki chicken with pan-fried noodles and moo shu pork as main dishes were delicious, and the pot stickers as appetizers were most excellent. Our entire meal with a plum wine & sake was under $50-a bargain!
google avatar

Wendy F.

Yelp
Had a Chinese craving and Sizzling Hot came to the rescue! Tried veggie egg foo young and is my new favorite. Crab Rangoon always a good choice. Sherri is a sweetheart, great service!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
So delicious! I will be back all the time! We got the shrimp moo shu and general tso's chicken. There was actually more chicken than batter on the general tso's, which is unheard of, and it was good chicken (not questionable parts like some Chinese restaurants). The moo shu was also fantastic. Fresh and the pancake things seemed homemade as well. Highly recommend, and I can't wait to see what else they have to offer. The only thing we didn't love was the crab rangoons. They were fine, but just couldn't compare to the rest of the food. Also got the Szechuan tofu with vegetables. Not bad, but not my favorite.
google avatar

Danielle L.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! General Tao and Singapore noodles are delicious. Huge portions, we usually take half back home for leftovers. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food. The atmosphere is nothing special, but the food makes up for it.
google avatar

Neenah M.

Yelp
Awesome food! For vegetarians and for those who like spicy food, ask for the traditional Schezuan vegetable and tofu dish. Amazing flavor. Enjoyed everything we ordered. Generous portions and very courteous service Negatives: in an empty restaurant, with just one other family, we were kept waiting for a long before someone came to our table. I guess takeout orders take precedence.
google avatar

Martha B.

Yelp
This place had the most tasteless Chinese food I have ever had. The only good thing was the dumplings. Then a 4 percent service charge if you use a credit card! The only reason we went is we were stuck in hotel way out of Madison. Really, Culver's would have been better.
google avatar

Theresa G.

Yelp
My favorite go-to Chinese restaurant. Consistently good food. Teriyaki chicken and pot stickers are the best.
google avatar

Jiangyu M.

Yelp
Amazing food here! I drove 10hrs from Kentucky and happened to stop by for some Chinese. They have super friendly staff and very authentic Chinese food :-)) I'm glad to have stopped for dinner. I'll definitely go back on the way home!

Jill B.

Yelp
Sizzling Hut is a favorite local Chinese restaurant of mine. I've enjoyed the Pepper Steak, General TSO's, coconut shrimp, sweet and sour Chicken and crab rangoons. Never busy inside the restaurant but the phone seems to ring off the hook for people wanting to order take out. Only complaint is that fortune cookies many times are stale and missing a fortune.
google avatar

Bethann H.

Yelp
I love this place The owners are always working and are so friendly, the food never gives me an upset tummy or makes me feel bloated like other places, portions are large I can make a couple meals out of one of there's I just with the sweet and sour chicken had a different more traditional breeding Side note you can order online which is super convenient , when ordering on line there's coupons you can use too.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Our dinner was average. I ordered chicken fried rice. I think the rice was over fried. And a big no for me was that the chicken was mostly dark meat. My husband's General Tso's Chicken was good. My son's Sweet and Sour Chicken was good too. But it came with a small container of sweet and sour sauce. The egg rolls were rather small. The fortune cookies were stale. Overall not a bad experience, but not as yummy as we're used to.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Cheese ragoons are top notch, even better than the crab ragoons. Recommend the beef lo mein & shrimp fried rice. Best Asian food in Deforest!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Sizzling hut is delicious, don't bother reading Peggy's review. It seems obvious that she is over critical and her favorite past time is yelling at a retail employee and asking to speak with their manager. Anyways, enough about how horrible a person Peggy seemingly is and on to sizzling hut. Sizzling hut is a small, mom and pop restaurant owned and operated by an older couple from China. There is a small language barrier and the interior is not that of a five star restaurant. All this aside the food is always amazing. Highly recommend.

Bruce R.

Yelp
I have been to Sizzling Hut twice now, both times for take-out lunch. I wish I could offer them a 4th star, because the food is actually very good. Couple the good food with the crazy-reasonable De Forest prices, and this place adds up to a real value. But the decor. Yeah, about that. It's pretty horrible. There's the empty, dimly-lit dining room. There's the baffling, catacomb-like trip past the bathrooms on your way to the order counter. Flat screen at the counter is playing colorized, 50's-era Doris Day movies, closed-captioned. Empty beer bottles decorate the shelves, not so much as an attempt to show you what beers they serve, but because they really, really just needed something to put there. This is like a trip to Pyongyang, but with a much greater quantity of (I presume) better-quality food. On a positive note, the food is really good. The Sesame Chicken is battered and deep fried, and topped with a tangy, dark brown sauce. Hot and Sour Soup is very flavorful, but lacks the thickness of many other Chinese places' soups. The fried rice served with the meals is bland, and is made with large-grain brown rice. Everything I've sampled here is very similar to what you've experienced elsewhere, but still just a little bit different. Sort of like a trip to Canada.

Liz Z.

Yelp
I enjoyed the cashew chicken but wasn't exactly thrilled with how tiny their "egg rolls" were... it was more like a spring roll than egg roll
google avatar

Katie W.

Yelp
We love you Sherry. We always get awesome hot food quickly! The lunch special can't be beat!

Timothy J.

Yelp
VEGETARIANS take note...are you sick of bland steamed vegetables and fried rice? So were we. Based on the Yelp reviews for Sizzling Hut we decided to give it a try. And wow, what a win! We were the only diners in the dining room so we asked the server/owner which dishes were vegetarian. Since we mentioned that we like spicy food she recommended the vegetable moo shu (4 heat stars) and the mixed vegetables and tofu with Szechuan sauce, which is not actually on the menu and was totally worth the dollar up charge. As if the service couldn't be better, the server then proceeded to roll our moo shu for us. She couldn't have been more friendly or attentive. Apologies for the lack of photos but we were so caught up in the experience that we neglected to take any. In short, make the trek to this hidden gem in DeForest! Even though there aren't many Yelp reviews, Sizzling Hut has been in business for 14 years. Let's keep it going!!
