"Sjømagasinet means ‘Sea Store’, so it’s no surprise to find that seafood leads the way at this vast, three-roomed restaurant beneath an apartment block. When the weather’s right, start with a drink on the superb waterside terrace; when it’s not, make for the chic lounge-bar. There’s plenty of options when it comes to dining here: you can select something from the crab and lobster tank or choose from the shellfish bar for delicious langoustines, a platter of shellfish landed at the local dock or dishes like lobster with chive butter and burdock chips." - Michelin Inspector

Google
Have high expectations but disappointed with the food. Tuna tartare was salty like the chef forgotten whether he added salt or not, but ended up another spoonful of salt. Scallops were dry, cooked food taste average. Grilled seafood on the other hand taste amazing!! But it is very expensive

Great service and atmosphere. The food is really nicely balanced, not too fat.

An absolutely gorgeous meal, the waitress was excellent and her recommendations were spot on. The food looked and tasted beyond belief. I would have no reservations recommending you visit this place if you want a quantity meal in wonderful surroundings. If you visit Oslo have a meal here and you won't be disappointed.

Very good restaurant in the Aker brygge area. Perfect for a special occasion! Great food and service. Not a mind-blowing experience, but good enough that you feel like each course is worth the cost. Could use some more pizzaz for a full 5 stars. The atmosphere in the restaurant is inviting and dark. The music could use a change though, instead of slow-down renditions of pop songs - it might be more appropriate to have purely instrumental tracks. — update 03/09/2025 — This review still stands true! Food is good, but not mind blowing. Love the focus on local, seasonal cuisine in the tasting menu. The wine pairings menu worked very well together with the dishes. Highlight of the meal was the lemon meringue tart.

I rarely give 5* and this place definitely deserves one. Some of the best seafood I have ever had. Visited this place for a team dinner and it just blew me away. The hospitality was great and the servings were nice and big for all of us to be full. a definite must visit if you are a seafood lover. The pricing is on the high end , but i guess that is anticipated when you want this quality with such nice ambience.

Had mussels, halibut, and shared a bottle of wine with a friend here on a Thursday evening. Food was top quality, so prepare to empty your wallet—two people can easily spend about 2700 NOK. Location is very near the water in Aker Brygge. The ambience is warm and elegant.

First night in Oslo recommended by hotel concierge. We chose Scallops, Tuna Tartare, Catch of the Day (Hake) Lobster Salad. All was absolutely delicious but scallops were beyond delightful! Friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere.

Husband booked this restaurant for my birthday dinner. We chose the scallops and the six course meal. I don’t know where to begin. The service was top notch. And every single dish was beyond amazing. I’ve tried alot of food around and I must say that this meal, was one of the best foods I’ve ever had in my life. A definite must-try when you’re in Oslo.

Yelp
Expensive food and crappy service try to avoid the place unless you're really needing to get something to eat

Yelp
We stepped in for some seafood after a long day of sight seeing. What a find - we opted FYI eat at the fish market side vs in the restaurant and had a great experience. We purchased two fish which was then prepared same as the fish of the day. We also ordered some oysters, skagen, and wine. The fish was cooked to perfection and it was interesting comparing the two different fish prepared the same way with the same sides. The oysters were French and had a nice brininess to them. The skagen was the best version I've tried to date. It was nicely sized shrimp with the traditional makati dressing, but tasted lighter. It was just what we were looking for, a casual seafood dinner

Yelp
Only reason I'm giving a 4 star review is because the service is lacking, though not bad, could be a lot better. However, food was 5 star. I'm confused by the lack of better reviews and the food at this place is amazing!

Yelp
The food at this restaurant is outstanding period the fish soup was marvellous and the dish that I had was pretty darn good period it was a cold water winter cod that was prepared very nicely in what they called a Marco Polo sauce. I would have preferred a little bit more of that piece of cod given the extremely expensive price for it but it was quite good. This really was a 4.5 stars but with a bottle of Chablis for two in the end of that at nearly $250. Ouch! Jeff

Yelp
Worth an entire trip from the US just to come to this restaurant. One of the most exquisite meals we have ever had. Incredibly complex and yet perfect assortment of flavors in every dish from the memorable bread, through the remarkable sauces of the main dishes to the innovative desert. And the service was spectacular and accommodating to one of our needs to avoid shellfish with a Plan B sauce that was a very creative alternative.

Yelp
If you like bad service, exorbitant prices & small portions, you'll love this place. We had a 6:00 reservation & the place was empty. Mgr tried to seat us next to a wall when there were at least a dozen open tables next to a window on the water. We had a reservation. When we asked for a window table, he begrudgingly agreed, muttering that they had many tables soon to be filled. As of 8:30, the place was 3/4 empty. Scallop appetizer included 2 smallish scallops. $13 a scallop. Halibut entree was bone in. Really? About 4 oz. Each bite came at least one bone. Cauliflower puree was awful. Asparagus was pedestrian. My girlfriend's entrecote was overcooked, tough & stringy. She ate half. I had hoped to politely provide feedback to management, but alas, no manager could be found & none had the courtesy to ask how are meal was. At these prices, the service should have been top shelf, not perfunctory. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS GIANT RIP OFF.

Yelp
Some of the food was delicious. All of the service was below average. For this sort of money and in a nearly empty restaurant the Eastern European girl doing service today not what u would expect for these prices. I was told this would be a great place to have my birthday lunch. Ordered my favorite wine only to have a constantly empty glass with the bottle chilling away from the table and my hanging to ask for more of my wine. If ur this disinterested in your customer at least leave the bottle at the table. Maybe the dinner service runs a tighter ship but my dining companion a well known chef in Oslo was laughing at the way this place operates.

Yelp
If you like hair in your food served without an apology this is probably the place for you. If your in a large group and you don't want to eat at the same time, come here... If you love horrible service in a restaurant that's not too busy, this is the place to be. Want to know more??? Message me privately. PS: lot's of grey hair people as well

Yelp
I really enjoyed my dinner here. If you have mentally prepared for the price tag then get ready for a delicious and unique meal! I came here with a group from work (probably 14 of us) and with a call-ahead they were able to accommodate us within a couple of hours. Great! The wine list is quite impressive. Pages and pages of selections - I went with one of the Italian wines by the glass and it was very good. They offer complimentary bread and butter while you await your appetizer and entree. It was a nice start to the meal and very appreciated that they even refilled the bread after it ran out so we could have some with dinner. I ordered the roe deer and it was delish. Cooked perfectly and covered with some kind of foam (lemon maybe?) It was accompanied by sauteed carrots and mushrooms and was overall very well put together. The other dishes looked quite exciting including the seafood soup, the king crab...actually all the dishes looked very appetizing. I did not order a dessert though many at the table did. The "Chocolate Christmas" dish looked very interesting and so did the hazelnut mango cake. While I wasn't that hungry for dessert, it was a very nice touch that they offered some complimentary sweet bites for after the meal (I think this was offered if you ordered coffee rather than dessert). I'm not sure what they were, but one was more of a cookie and the other was more of a chocolate-nougat piece. It seems that gesture is quite indicative of all the food - very thoughtful. If you are in Oslo, it's definitely worth a visit for your special occasion. The wait staff is incredible and so is the food.

Yelp
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere- exclusive and chill at the same time. The place is not too stiff, but I would recommend to dress up a little bit. Friendly staff, only some points lost to the butler who spoke in a very low voice and with a thick accent. Some of her sentences was poorly understood. Exellent winelist! And the prices was only about three times the Vinmonopolet prices. We chose the Michel Chapoutier - Les Graves 2003 from Coravin which was a perfect match throughout the whole dinner. We had the seafood platter, two servings. First serving had a sashimi scallop/salmon dish, which was amazing. Best dish throughout the serving. King crab, reegular crab and shrimps - all cooked to perfection. The chili mayo that followed (I think I got a different one from the regular one because of my lactose intolerance) was great to combine to the meat. Great flavour! Second serving was coal-grilled lobster, langoustines and mussels - best langoustines and mussels I have tasted! As usual, the lobster disappointed me, but I seldom taste a lobster which don't. For dessert, I chose a glass of Vinsanto from 1952 - a great end to the meal. Perfect balanced aroma.
