This used to be my favorite donut shop in the city. Like, I never even considered going elsewhere. They were open til midnight, always well stocked with a variety of delicious yeast and cake donuts, and the man working the counter was super friendly and kind. We stopped by probably twice a month, and often had to make hard decisions between varieties because there were so many good choices.
Unfortunately, my last few trips in have made me realize that its glory days are gone. No matter what time of day I've stopped in, they are out of stuff, or straight up just not making it anymore - cake donuts in particular seem to have suffered greatly in favor of donuts overloaded with toppings. I used to love their apple fritter, but I haven't had it in years because they never have it in stock.
Tonight, we popped in on the way home from dinner, two full hours before closing, and they were down to maybe four dozen donuts, many of the same varieties, all stuffed into one part of one case. The employee was pushy with us to order despite the fact that we clearly couldn't see the donuts, because other customers were standing directly in front of them. They didn't bother to take down the labels for the donuts that used to be there, so we had to ask what every single thing was, which was annoying. And of course, they were once again out of apple fritters.
I have to know... if you are always out of apple fritters, for example, why not just make more to begin with? They seem to be pretty popular! We were looking to get half a dozen donuts, and left with three because there were so few options. The donuts were okay, but honestly, the experience was super disappointing overall, and it cost over $13 for those three we did manage to get.
I rarely bother stopping in anymore, and tonight reminded me of why. :/
