Inspired by Viking mead halls, this rustic, old-world tavern serves Nordic fare, meads & aquavits.
"In case the viking sculpture and pelt booth cushions weren’t giveaways, Skål Beer Hall leans its umlauted spirit into Ballard’s Scandinavian roots—and it’s a great place to start a raucous night. The dramatically lit back bar has a stone hearth and large wood booths made for groups who like to get a little loud. There are platters of satisfying snacks like tender venison skewers and slivers of herring, all best washed down with beer, mead or maybe an Aquavit-spiked cocktail. Those planning to settle in can peruse shelves stocked with board games or stare hypnotically at the Slow TV show from Norway that follows a train gently touring the countryside. Just watch that pickled herring breath if there’s anyone you hope to impress." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley, gabe guarente

"The Nordic-influenced Skal Beer Hall took reservations Saturday and had more of a quiet 'friends and family' reopening, welcoming in members of its beer club, just to get the hang of protocols." - Gabe Guarente
"The recently opened Skål Beer Hall is strikingly Vikingesque, with exposed brick walls covered in shields and ropes. Aquavit cocktails and Nordic craft brews are served here, alongside wine, cider, and mead from both Scandinavia and Seattle. The hearty food menu doesn’t stray far from the Nordics, either, with dishes like smoked duck sausage with lingonberry mustard."
"Vikings, mead and meat come to Ballard. For those who dig pelts and horned helmets, the highly-anticipated Skål Beer Hall will finally open to the public on April 10 in the Ballard spot that once housed People’s Pub. The place has been in the works since last year, with chef and distiller Lexi (who only goes by that singular name) making contributions. Customers should expect Nordic-inspired beers, a huge fireplace, big communal tables and mead (of course), with food such as venison and sausage. For those who want to get in before the marauders descend, Skål is currently hosting a series of ticketed preview events, available for Mug Club Members only." - Gabe Guarente
