True to its name, satay and grilled specials shine alongside lively curries and wok dishes. Cited by the Salt Lake Tribune’s readers in a pad thai poll, it remains a solid, independently owned choice near downtown.

Right on 700 E opposite Whole Foods near downtown, this is a small book packed with a punch in terms of tasty Thai cuisine. Mostly street side parking - that parking lot behind the house is a bit crammed - the place bustles at the peak of its service. While the menu is the usual Thai dishes you would come across in any Thai restaurant, the quality, speed of service, and the taste will bring you back here. One dish that stood out was the green curry fried rice. That was a first. The brown rice bowl is something unique to this place. Made from black glutinous rice and jasmine rice, it tastes good and is filling The portions are decent for the price. Price may be a tad bit higher but then it is a prime location too. Menu is deep enough for you to go fishing into it multiple times. Definite place to add to favorite eateries in the valley.

I haven't had Thai food in probably 2 decades. Had a bad experience once as a kid and never wanted to go back. But recently I thought of trying new places and well as I was walking by this beautiful old building I thought I'd try Skewered Thai and the Cafe next door. Which are owned by the same people BTW. Well I am so glad we tried this place. Beautiful atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Told then my story about it being decades since I had Thai food. And then they started to recommend things to me, even had me sample a different curry than what I ordered. Now I feel like my life has changed and I've fallen in love with Thai food cause of this place! It's a little pricey, so I won't be able to go as much as I wish. But absolutely great food! You must go here if you love great food in a cute building with great atmosphere.

I hadn't ever had Thai food before dining at Skewered Thai. I sure glad I did! I had the basil stir fry and some green tea 😋 a hole in the wall plac3 with a very cozy ambiance. I love the location being so central. Wishing I could have this more often!

Google
This place is an absolute gem! I tried the Panang Salmon Curry, and my friends had the Green Curry and Spicy Eggplant – everything was amazing🩶 It was my first time having Thai food, and everything was so good. I loved the flavors, and I kept thinking about it even after I got home. Not only was the food great, but the staff was super friendly too. She constantly checked on our table and always had a smile on her face, making our dining experience enjoyable 😊 I’m planning to go back. It was such a satisfying meal 👍

This is one of my favorite local haunts. I've recommended it to at least five other people in person. Their massaman curry is my favorite dish - I love their brown rice. I usually go in person - I think I've been four times this year. It's delicious!

Google
Cute little Thai restaurant, loved the cozy atmosphere. We were really craving protein so we got the chicken skewers as an appetizer and they were awesome! They were larger than most places, felt like I got half a chicken breast on each stick. For entrees, I got the pineapple fried rice and my boyfriend got the ginger stir fry. I really enjoyed the flavor of my dish, though it could have used a light sauce. My boyfriend was not a fan of my dish but he thought his was good. Servings sizes were large, we both had leftovers for lunch the next day. Overall, the food was good but not the best Thai I’ve ever had, however I would go back sometime to try more of the menu.

Google
This is our favorite spot, my partner and I eat here regularly and love the food as well as the kindness. Our favorite order is penang curry, fresh spring rolls, and chicken satay but honestly, you can’t go wrong! I’ve never been able to say “my fav Thai spot up the road” until now. Whats more, eating here supports locally owned and small business. What’s not to love? Also, May is a total sweetheart and gives great service. Thank you!

Google
We were in the area and needed a warm Thai meal and this place came up as highly rated. Definitely busy on weekend nights for sure! Ordered: Pad Thai, Satay Chicken, Thai calamari, Tom Yum soup, BBQ Pork, and Thai iced tea. Pad Thai was a bit off - the flavoring wasn't on point. Satay Chicken was OK. Thai Calamari was over-battered just a bit. Tom Yum soup - too much flavoring was put in and it almost tasted grainy. The BBQ pork was decent, probably the best out of the entrees we ordered. Thai iced tea was on point. I really was excited to try this place based on the reviews, but I've had way better Thai food than this place. Service was good though!

Yelp
Came back again with my husband to share some delicious food!! We started with the Curry Puff appetizer! The filling was so flavorful and the puff pastry was so crispy and flaky! Delicious! We also shared the Padsiew with tofu, which is one of my favorite Thai dishes. My husband also enjoyed a refreshing Coke and I had a crisp Tsing Tao beer. Service was great! It's always a fun vibe! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We were looking for good Thai food in Salt Lake City and stumbled upon Skewered Thai in downtown. The small, all brick building with old hard wood floors is non assuming and on a main drag. We were warmly greeted and ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, bean sprouts, green onions, egg, peanuts and a very savory sauce. We loved the generous amount of sauce that coated the rice noodles perfectly. Our order also included a Massaman curry with chicken, onions, carrots, potatoes, and a rich, warm curry sauce. The sauce was scrumptious and had a nice rich consistency. Both orders were fresh, properly spiced as we requested and a generous helpings. In Salt Lake City give Skewered Thai a chance. The staff is very warm and accommodating. The food portions are generous and delicious. If they were in my home state, they would be on my frequent staple list. Great job ladies.

Yelp
First of all, this place is NOTTT kid friendly. No kids menu, no option for a small portion, and they only have one highchair, and it was in use so we had to hold our infant the whole time. Their chicken skewers and peanut sauce were yummy. We got the pineapple fried rice was not very flavorful and desperately needed salt. Then we got the massaman curry-- level 3 for spice. First of all I got no spice at all, and the flavor of the sauce was flat. My potatoes were not cooked all the way so they were tough. My husband got the bbq pork and he really liked it. I ordered the cucumber salad. The waiter told me that it was in a Chili sauce. Whatever sauce it was in was transparent and tasted like sweet water. Not sure where / how chili was used in that sauce. The restaurant is located in a house turned restaurant. Tacky on the outside with poor landscaping work. But the inside looked nice. Overall it was just not good. I will never come back.

Yelp
Their sign outside said open, their board outside also says open till 12am. I got there at 11:30 and waited in the lobby and no one came out. I could hear a guy singing in the back so I asked if they were open and he ignored me. I could physically see the backside of the guy and he ignored me. It's giving pricks, I am throughly dissatisfied. If they don't want to serve people don't waste time my time and say that you're open.

Yelp
Just moved to Utah and this was my first dinner out with my friend. Great food and cute building design. Definitely would love to come back .

Yelp
Delicious cashew chicken, super flavorful. Just how I like it. Will be back again. Service was quick and friendly.

Yelp
We just left this place and I never leave reviews but I just had to. The food and the service here is top notch. We had the green curry, Thai chicken wings and the mango sticky rice. Every thing we had was excellent! Super crispy wings and the curry was so full of fresh veggies. The service was great! Definitely making this a regular on our rotation. Cheaper than a fast food combo and a thousand times better.

Yelp
We ordered from here for a work lunch, so I didn't see the restaurant or interact with any workers. I'm not familiar with Thai food at all so I ordered a fried rice with chicken and it was delicious. There was a ton of large pieces of onions which I'm fine with onions, but it was an excessive amount haha. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well.

Yelp
Honestly bummed. This was my go to place for awhile. I ordered the pad Thai on 12/1 and got explosive diarrhea. I pooped my pants and regretfully had to throw them away. I don't think I'll be back for awhile- I can't afford to lose another pair :(

Yelp
This is a cute house that has been converted into a restaurant. It does not seat too many people so the biggest group size will be about 6 in order to be comfortable. They do have specials on their board and free parking behind the restaurant. Street parking is free for two hours. The calamari appetizer has an amazing Thai sauce. The food was all amazing....I personally can vouch for the curry fried rice that I ate with chicken. The serving sizes are huge and service is very quick. Just one point of contention....they only charge 4 CC per table. So this would not be convenient for larger groups. Overall it was great and a good choice for Thai food in Salt Lake City.

Yelp
I got the spicy fried rice. It was perfectly spicy, with a ton of different veggies in it. I got it with tofu, but there were other protein options as well. Portion was decent. It was one of my favorite Thai fried rice dishes I've ever had. Super delicious. Highly, highly recommend. Service was average. Dim lighting vibe.

Yelp
We got the Tom Ka soup for two which was full of goodies and flavor. I'm a Pad see ew aficionado, so I super critical. It was probably one of the best next to Satay in Vegas. Tons of flavor with a caramelized tasting noodles from the thick soy sauce.

Yelp
I absolutely adored this cute spot! Exterior and interior have a welcoming feel and our server, Laidy, was very sweet. I eat Thai food quite a lot so I feel as though I've become a good judge of what's quality or not. Here's my thoughts on what we ordered: - Crispy rolls: very unimpressed, didn't even have one. Definitely skip these. - Red curry with beef: this was the STAR. Absolutely loved the flavor, couldn't stop eating it. - Basil stir fry with beef: also amazing flavor. Get it spicy! - Pad Thai with chicken: for such a classic Thai dish, I think this could have been better. The sauce was really thick which made the noodles clumpier, and the flavor wasn't anything super special. Still good though! Overall I would definitely recommend and if I lived in SLC I would for sure be coming back more!!

Yelp
Skewered Thai came highly recommended from many local Salt Lake City folks I've run into so I had to try it. I stopped by with my family. We were quickly seated. The service was polite and quick. The place is decorated with Vietnamese ornaments and in the background plays contemporary pop music. We ordered the Thai Fried Rice for my daughter, my wife ordered the Pad Thai, & I ordered the Moo Yang. What was interesting about this place is how differently my wife and I rated each dish. To start, she enjoyed the Thai Fried Rice, which I found bland. The rice was cooked to perfection but lacked spice. The lack of spice ended up being a motif for each dish. Also, they don't have sriracha, just chili flakes upon request... My wife is a Pad Thai enthusiast and was disappointed in her dish. The dish was one-dimensional and relied heavily on the sauce. I found the Pad Thai solid, though lacking the usual Thai spice I am accustomed to. My Moo Yang was good. The pork on its own was salty but combined with the sweet cucumber and carrots and finished off with the perfectly cooked white rice the flavors balanced each other. The salty and sweet interplay between the pork and veggies makes the dish worthwhile so long as you eat it together. It's tough to give this place higher than 3 stars based on what we ate and it's possible that there are other dishes we might like or a different manner we can order our food (can it be made spicy & can I bring my own sriracha?). I'll be back again in the future just not right away.

Yelp
Such a great hidden gem. Food is always amazing. Service is friendly and fast. Lots of charm in the old Victorian house.

Yelp
Fun little spot with big flavor! We ordered takeout with Drunken noodles and Spring rolls. Both of which were tasty and fresh. Happy with the service and easy ordering system online. We will be back! Small parking lot in the back with 5 spots, or street parking.

Yelp
We've eaten Thai food in a lot of different cities, including Thailand. So we're constantly in the hunt for good Thai food. Our first time in Salt Lake City and looked up Skewered Thai- it did not disappoint. So good! We came as a party of six including two teens. We all came away full and having all loved the food. We started with the spring rolls and Shrimp Tom Yum soup. We knew the rest was going to be good. We ordered the Thai Fried Rice (pork), Padsiew (pork-our favorite), Panang Curry (steak-so delicious), and Pad Gra Pow (pork). Had some leftovers and are excited to continue the experience the next day. Ended with the Mango Sticky Rice. This was our Thanksgiving meal this year, visiting family undergoing medical treatment. This will go down as one of our most memorable. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
The only Thai spot we could find open on Christmas!! Amazingly prompt service, lovely dining area and acoustics so that we could enjoy a quiet date without too much noise from tables around us. Restrooms were also sparkling clean and well maintained which is a plus, when eating out while pregnant! :) We ordered the Chicken Satay Appetizer and although priced higher than most local Thai spots for satay, the presentation and fresh cucumber salad served alongside the skewers justified the price. The salad was delightfully fresh and crunchy alongside the juicy tender chicken skewers. The peanut sauce wasn't my favorite in the valley, but not bad. For a main, we tried the Drunken Noodles at a level 4 out of 5 spice. Perfection! Perfectly paired with several vegetables and ample rice noodles, every bite full of spice delivered the perfect zing of heat and flavor! We default often to another Thai spot in town, but thanks to them being closed Christmas, we became fans of Skewered and look forward to returning!

Yelp
Disappointed Being far from home, we were craving some Thai food and of course this place popped up on Yelp and we ordered through grub hub for pickup. Order took 40 minutes- we ordered: - scallops: came with 3. Was $18.. NOT WORTH IT. Just tasted like fried scallops dipped in mayo. - pad thai: $3 extra for shrimp and it comes with like 2-3 shrimps.. also it was so sweet.. what is this? Dessert? - red curry: spicy. Not too spicy. It was okay. I would not come here again. For almost $90- 2 pad thai- 1 curry- 1 scallop order... not it

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, prompt, hot, each dish tasted different and the atmosphere was authentic and inviting. The noise level was perfect so you could easily hear your company The price was a bit above average. I wouldn't consider this a " let's take the whole family out for dinner before the show" type of restaurant. However, it's worth every penny I would say. I found it incredibly delightful and every bite pleasing. The dessert was out of this world. Had three take home containers. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Food was not great, even compared to other spots in town. We got the shrimp rolls, chicken pad Thai and shrimp pad see ew and we would not get any of it again. We barely ate any of it sadly.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Ordered ahead and picked it up. Calamari rings, crab Rangoon, papaya salad with shrimp, green curry and yellow curry. The green curry is ON POINT. Truly excellent. The yellow curry is good. The papaya salad is ok. Appetizers were quite enjoyable also. Perhaps I appeared as a meandering homeless person in my warm hoodie on a cccold night. Did not enjoy interacting with the employee who handed me, my fully prepaid with generous tip, meal. The green curry carries this place, rude person nonetheless

Yelp
AMAZING. Anything you order is delish!! Went in on Saturday just before 6pm. The service was great, the seating was great got a nice view of Trolley Square lit up. I'd say all the dishes on the menu were $17 and they are a good portion. My friends and I shared, I can't wait to go again! The flat noodles are my fav! Only thing is the parking, it gets pretty full and the corner part of the lot has no lights which felt sketchy to me.

Yelp
As competitive as the Thai restaurants are in SLC, you really need to step up your game to impress. The location was cute in a bustling part of town and fortunately had their own parking lot. I was the first to arrive in my group and requested highchairs which they did not have. The said they only had booster seats. However, they never brought them and I only found one as I was going to the bathroom. Apparently that was all they had, so not particularly family friendly. As a result, we asked to be moved to a table with a booth which would make it easier for one of the toddlers without a booster seat. The server gave us attitude for the request and begrudgingly moved us. We ordered quite a few dishes, a chicken pumpkin curry, chicken pineapple fried rice, papaya salad, pad Thai and pork drunken noodle. We requested that two of the dishes be spicy and to provide us with fish sauce with the chili peppers on the side. The dishes were all so bland without any spice and the sauce was never provided. The pad Thai was coated in some thick tamarind tasting sauce that was not like any pad Thai I've had before and was just gummy with not much else aside from noodles and a bit of meat. The curry had huge chunks of pumpkin and veggies. I feel like it's a bad sign when restaurants don't make an effort to chop their veggies into bite size pieces so that you get the perfect amount of each ingredient in each bite. The pumpkin pieces were literally 3 inches long by an inch wide which was ridiculously big. The onion and the bell peppers were also cut in 2 by 3/4 inch strips. The papaya salad didn't have much flavor either and the rice was soggy for fried rice. On the plus side I guess, the portions were pretty big. The icing on the cake was the autograt when we were a table of 3 adults and 3 toddlers that don't each much. I understand autograting for 5+ adults but children should not be included. I'm glad I at least tried the place but I won't be returning. We didn't even take pictures of the food like we usually do because of the disappointment.

McKenzie L.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! We ordered the Tum Yum soup and Red Chicken curry. Excellent soup that had the perfect blend of spicy, sour and sweet flavors. My minus star was since we ordered it medium size but it was served in a small ceramic cereal bowl: the broth spilled over the rim into the plate underneath it. It got cold fast and it was messy since some of the broth was inside the plate. When you put the soup spoon to serve yourself then more of the soup spilled out into the plate since the cereal bowl was way too small. A frustrating mess! They really need to serve it in a proper metal Tum Yum hot soup pot or other type of soup pot, not a small cereal bowl!

Yelp
Had a delicious lunch Thursday afternoon. Red curry was really good with a good amount of heat. The drunken noodles weren't as spicy as I expected. Service was nice.
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
Came here for the first time. Parking in the rear of the restaurant (there are like 5 spots). The food was pretty good. I got curry and the only complain i have is the onions. They were kinda dried out edges so they weren't juicy and crunchy. Instead they were chewy and stringy which made me not eat them. The chicken was good in the curry!! We also got the drunken noodles with chicken. The chicken had that off taste so I didn't eat any of that plate. I think that taste came from the place because the chicken in my curry was way good. I couldn't get enough! The bathrooms were super clean and nice. They have one toilet for women and one for men. The building is pretty cool as they used the exposed brick to their advantage. The servers were so friendly and on top of the service. My Diet Coke was always fresh and even came with a lime every time :)
google avatar

Lilly K.

Yelp
My number one to go for thai food. Perfect amount of spice & flavor. Filling proportions and speedy service. Not to mention the sweet white cat that hangs out in the parking lot! I love their red curry and pad thai. The owners also own trolley cottage cafe and both are equally amazing i highly recommend coming here!

Megan G.

Yelp
Great food and service. We ordered their panang curry, drunken noodles, and pineapple fried rice and it was some of the best Thai food I've had in Utah. Great atmosphere as well. Only good things to say about this place!
google avatar

Alison A.

Yelp
After a long drive we just wanted a meal. Told us they didn't have sit down service after 8:30 We walked in ay 8:31. Not good business practice.
google avatar

Ivey G.

Yelp
Amazing food, quick service, the best Thai iced tea!!!! Everything about my dinner here was incredible. My only slight complaint would be that nothing was spicy, even the spicy eggplant. But we added some chili and it was great
google avatar

Theresa L.

Yelp
In town for work and this place had fantastic reviews. I got the Thai ice tea, taste great. I got the shrimp and chicken pad Thai, it was delicious but the portion was huge!!! No need to get appetizers. Cute place, nicely decorated, friendly staff, food comes out quick!!

Demetri Z.

Yelp
Maybe the best Thai in the valley. I come from a highly dense Thai town and nothing really compared in SLC. I got the yellow curry and it was very flavorful

Ida L.

Yelp
This is not just a great Thai place, but also one of the best restaurants in SLC. Cute atmosphere, friendly staff, great service and beautiful food. The Pinot Grigio is killer with the Pineapple Curry. Don't skip the Waterfall Steak salad. Everything is so fresh and made with thoughtfully selected produce. This place was an instant hit, and I keep coming back. It's consistently great. I'll add that, as a bonus, you can go big or small here. We've stopped in just for chicken wings and a beer. We've also indulged in multi course meals with a group of friends. They treat you like guests instead of customers. I love Skewered Thai.
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
I got takeout and ordered the Pad Kee Mao with tofu and no egg. It was good, however I feel like it could've used a bit more sauce and had more depth in flavor.
google avatar

Ann G.

Yelp
Food was tasty and service was very good. They were out of spring rolls, but we ordered calamari instead and the breading was crispy and hot. We also like the chow fun noodles. Cute atmosphere.
google avatar

Alan L.

Yelp
When it comes to eating Thai food my wife tends to stick with the basic Americanized Thai dish Pad Siew. There is nothing wrong with that. I tend to my own way too. I had the Drunken Noodle (Pad Kee Mao) Pan-fried flat rice noodles with broccoli, carrots, egg, bell peppers, and sweet black soy sauce. Nice size portions that tasted very good. The service was very good too. Would come back and explore some other dishes.
google avatar

Alondra C.

Yelp
Food is decent, environment inside was calm and quiet at the time we went. My biggest complaint would be about the waitress. She was rude and didn't care to service us. Each time she came with an attitude.

Greg M.

Yelp
Great food and decent prices. Best Thai food in SLC. Server was friendly and also knowledgeable about gluten free options.
google avatar

Cherie C.

Yelp
This is actually the quaintest looking establishment. From the outside it looked really cute and the inside was not a disappointment. The atmosphere and the service was amazing and the food was really good and well portioned also so it was the perfect place to me and have lunch with my daughter and my niece

Charity K.

Yelp
Those were the best crab Rangoon I've ever had in my life. My friend said that her chicken skewers were a little dry, but also those crab Rangoon were the best ever. Four out of five recommend.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Skewered Thai is an appropriate name, because this restaurant served anything but "authentic Thai flavor," as they promised. I've eaten in at least 25 Thai restaurants in Portland, Boise, Hong Kong and Southern California. Never have I eaten a noodle dish with soft, overcooked noodles. At least not before I ordered Pad Kee Mao at Skewered Thai. The noodles were mushy and what should have been a spicy dish was bland as could be. I told the waitress and she offered to replace it, then came back a couple of minutes later and said all of the flat rice-noodle dishes were the same. I decided it wasn't worth trying another dish and asked her to take it off the bill, which she did. Kristy ordered grilled satay chicken and while it was ok, it wasn't grilled and rated about 3/5. The satay sauce was flavorful. We split a bowl of Tom yum goong. It was ok, but ranked the lowest of any I've had. The Thai ice tea was not so great, either.
google avatar

Bryce J.

Yelp
This place always hits the spot. There is however similar quality Thai food for less money elsewhere though so I give it a solid 4/5.
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
Ordered three dishes. Curry with medium spicy 4/5 Pad Thai 0/5 with pork The pork was spoiled. We complained about it and they served us a new pad Thai but with 2/3 of the original amount. We asked for tofu instead of pork for the replaced dish. But the tofu had no flavor at all and is not fresh either. The pad Thai was super sweet and salty, and some noodles are in chunks, and thus as hard as a rock. Drunken noodles 2/5 Ordered 1 out of 5 spice level. But it was so spicy, like at least 4 out of 5. Tasted much much spicier than the the curry with medium spice level.
google avatar

Flowers K.

Yelp
Cute place. Food and service was not great. Would not go back. Ambiance and setting is nice. Parking and entrance in rear of restaurant.

Leland M.

Yelp
The food was a little better than average. The portion was about normal. The price was absurdly high.

Yelp
My son picked this restaurant as his family get-together/farewell dinner before he shipped off overseas and it turned out to be a really nice event for the seven of us. Skewered Thai has an awesome selection of Thai hors d'oeuvres, main dishes, and beverages made the picking a challenge, and everyone kept their heads down and were silent as they poured over the menu. A number of us had appetizers (I had the spring rolls myself and my wife had the shrimp rolls...both great), and I went for the garlic stir fry with pork (wonderful), and my wife had the yellow curry with chicken...which I sampled when she wasn't looking...and which was most excellent! All the food was very flavorful and the portion size was just right where you'd expect...plentiful. Everyone enjoyed their meals and my son and his buddy enjoyed the Mango sticky rice desserts. I, of course, had to have a Thai Singha lager beer and that was awesome (I just love Asia-Pacific beers such as Tsingtao pilsner, as well as Taj Mahal and Kingfisher lagers!) And of course, such nice food (and excellent service) comes at a cost...and for the seven of us, the tab came to $235 before tax. Skewered Thai added in an automatic 20% tip ($47.00), so out the door - with tax - the bill came to $306.67 (~$43/person). Overall, FOUR Stars for excellent food and prompt service. We'll be back!

Tushona M.

Yelp
So we started with the shrimp roll which was really good!! They are fried rolls with fried shrimp! I wish the sauce that they used had spice to it or was more of a chipotle sauce! Next we tried the fresh spring roll! It was decent, we substituted the peanut sauce for Sweet and sour sauce. Made it Last, our entree was the drunken noodles w/ chicken. It was really good! I loved how the vegetables weren't over cooked. It does have a lot of sodium due to the soy sauce and it could have had a little more chicken to even out the meal with the vegetables and noodles! It definitely needed spice to make you slap yo momma! The service was really good!! Food came out in a timely fashion! Our server was very personable! I would highly recommend that you stop in if you're in SLC to support and check them out!!
