Ski Lodge Engelberg | Best budget ski hotels in Europe

"A ski hotel run by skiers for skiers, the Ski Lodge Engelberg has earnt itself cult status as one of the friendliest – and coolest – places to stay in town. Housed in a couple of converted Edwardian houses in the middle of Engelberg, it’s run by two Swedish former ski bums, Eric Spongberg and Niklas Moller, who spent several seasons in the resort before setting up the business in 2009. They (as well as their staff) know the resort like the back of their hands, and are only too happy to give guests advice on where to find the best snow. The Ski Lodge bar is a popular post-ski meeting place for locals and visitors alike, who gather to refuel on tasty burgers while discussing the best runs of the day. " - Nicola Iseard

We stayed here for one night in May 2025, before going up to the top of Mt. Titlis, which is within walking distance. It wasn’t bad for a walk just to go up to the top of the mountain, but if I was skiing, it might be kind of a hike. The town is so pretty and peaceful, there is a small grocery store at the train station right next to the hotel. Parking is plentiful. The room we had was huge and very well decorated. The included breakfast was good, the restaurant area was very nice and cozy. The staff there was very nice as well. We arrived late and they left our key at the desk.

We had booked one night at this old fashioned hotel. Once we arrived we fell in love with its location and extended our stay by one day. Rooms were spacious, balcony with views, excellent breakfast with wide choice. And they provide bathrobe too! Its location is perfect , close to train station and walkable distance to Mount Titlis and also close to excellent restaurants including Indian one.

Stayed here for a long weekend snowboarding on Titlis. The room was lovely and cozy, the bar and restaurant were amazing and the sauna was perfect for soothing muscles after a day on the mountains. The staff were so amazing and friendly, they even opened the breakfast for us early and gave us takeaway cups for coffee so we could get some food before our early morning train back to Zurich. The ski room has lots of space for skis and boards and heated boot racks.

Fantastic! Spacious, updated rooms. The location is ideal. Restaurant is great and every single person there was friendly and helpful.

Overall good hotel but a few things that made it a 4 rather than a 5. Staff is great. Location is average. 10 min brisk walk to the lift. After walking back and forth a few days in a row we where pretty fed up with the that. There are no luxuries att this hotel. Rooms are practical and functioning nothing more. Breakfast is great. Skiers dinner is 2/5 for us. Just overall not very good tasting and always with poor/cheap proteins like the porcheta the first night which was probably 90 percent just fat. Would not opt for the dinner, better go somewhere else. Lots and lots of ski crazy swedes.

If you are a skier, this is 100% definitively the place to stay in Engleberg. Amazing, chill and helpful staff (Swedish vibes). The food at Brasserie Konrad is excellent.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. A true lodge, Where are you feel welcome and comfortable immediately. The Location is amazing. The food is over the top, so much more than I was expecting. Very creative menu, and the meal if anything surpassed the menu. The breakfast is amazing. The bar is a fun and active place. On Tuesday night, it's trivia night. The whole place erupts in fun and joy.

Yelp
Beautiful, cozy rooms with a "ski lodge" feel. My room had a wonderful balcony attached with outdoor furniture to use and I saw that many other rooms had balconies attached as well. Breakfast was alright, but it is appreciated that it was provided. The hot tub & sauna were closed during the times we were in so, unfortunately, we were not able to experience those. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
To close up the snow season i came here with the swedish group Swepa. On friday i got the train with two friends and when we got there it was snowing like crazy. The lodge is really in front of the train station and we got our room very quickly. They have a big room to leave the snow gear and i like the heating system they have for the snowboard/ski boots. I shared a double room with a friend and it was really cozy. Loved the deco of the hotel, with lots of old skis hanging on the walls. Since we were a group we already had food included in the package. So we had an apero when we got there, great breakfast, sandwiches to take with us for picnic and at night, on Saturday, a superb 3 course dinner! The sevice was great and the people super nice! The owners are swedish, so it is a popular place for them, but they all spoke german or english as well. Only minus point, was that the jacuzzi was broken, so we ended up going to another hotel to get into the spa, since the lifts were closed due to avalanche alarm on the mountain. Would love to come back, really liked it!

Yelp
This place is incredible! Stopping by here with a tour group for two nights and oh my gosh... the views are absolutely incredible. I am a city girl myself and I was absolutely blown away by how much I love it here. Great bar downstairs and a lovely area outside to chat with friends and enjoy the gorgeous scenery. The employees greeted our group the moment we arrived and made us feel so welcome. The beds are incredibly cozy and I am DEFINITELY considering coming back here even though it's so far from home.

Yelp
Top to bottom, a great Swedish staff provided me a super experience! Great food, breakfast and dinner with the best bar scene in town. The outdoor hot tub and sauna were a nice treat! They've built a great brand with a perfect location to the train and ski bus. So happy to have been able to stay here for two nights over the Christmas holiday.

Yelp
My daughter stayed at the Ski Lodge a few years ago and the photos of the views from her room were incredible. Also the room had a cozy look to it and she said it was very comfortable. Unfortunately when planning our trip to Engelberg, there were no rooms available at the Ski Lodge, so we stayed a couple of doors down. We did go to the Ski Lodge Bar both days we were in Engelberg. We had beer and cocktails on both occasions and ordered food on the second. The food we ordered was a chicken club sandwich in a bed of micro greens and homemade chips, which was delicious! It was one of the most creative and delicious meals I had in the three European countries I visited. And, the most reasonably priced in Switzerland. The bar is a fun place to hangout. The first day we visited there was a large group of hikers that kept arriving from their hike in about 5 minute intervals and when each person or group arrived everyone in the bar would cheer. The bartenders were both very welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend the Ski Lodge!

Yelp
My stay was great! Easy check in, very nice accommodation, great amenities and an AMAZING staff! Make sure to try the hot tub and sauna while overlooking the surrounding mountains and don't forget to try their restaurant menu! I was lucky enough to be there for their open house party and got to try their tasting menu - every dish was outstanding and reasonably priced. Hope you go and have and much of a good time as I had !

Yelp
I didn't stay here but stopped by for après ski on two afternoons during a recent vacation to Engelberg. The building is located just behind the train station (closer to the ski area). In early March, spring is definitely in place in the town so it is super comfortable to hang out outside. The hotel had set up a kicking band from somewhere in Scandinavia (Sweden I think). Unfortunately I don't remember where they had traveled from, but I will never forget seeing three guys in green skinny jeans and white tanks. That coupled with the awesome mix of American 70's, 80's, and 90's music meant that I was a happy camper after great days of skiing. The bar had some seating areas to the left and right of the stage, while in the center was a decent sized bar. Two bartenders were serving drinks and one fellow was grilling up some food. Prices on drinks were ok, but food was a bit steep. There was also a bar inside which was definitely less crowded and a quicker turnaround time for service. Once the band stopped playing, the place cleared out pretty quick. The good news for this place was that it was the only bar making a true après ski effort in Engelberg. Smart move by them.

Yelp
I absolutely loved staying at this ski lodge when I was in Switzerland last summer. The food was great and the staff were so nice. I loved Switzerland and staying here made the trip that much more enjoyable. All of the windows open and we had a cute little balcony also. The air is so fresh so to be in a hotel with windows that open so you can enjoy the fresh air is amazing. The beds are so comfy that I slept in and nearly missed my trip up Mt Titlis! lol!

Yelp
I was looking for one night on a weekend and this place has been highly recommended to me. It's fair to say that it's a cozy place, but this means as well that the stairway is super narrow (1 person at a time), no elevators, nobody helping you with the luggage, tiny rooms and tiny beds (5 feet for 2 persons). Staff was very friendly and kind and the room was clean and neat. I had no dinner there so I can't judge but breakfast was without service and nothing special, but ok. The Bar is cool and the outdoor sauna and hot tub are a very nice detail. So all over it's a nice place, it's just WAY too expensive for what it is. But if you are willing to spend a lot of money and like this rustic chalet style, this is a good place for you. I'm not sure if I will go back there...
