Skillet Diner Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Cinnamon rolls larger than your head, iced mochas in mason jars, and upscale breakfast options like cornmeal waffles with maple-braised pork belly—any or all of these things can be yours at Skillet, which is what we imagine an old-school diner with an HGTV makeover would look like. It works really well for a weekend brunch with out-of-town guests, providing they appreciate tasty biscuits with sage gravy." - Aimee Rizzo

Where To Have Breakfast For Dinner

"Skillet’s the kind of diner where you’ll find mason jar cocktails and pancakes with lemon zest butter and berry compote. It’s also the kind of diner that serves ridiculously good homemade biscuits with pork sage gravy, and that’s what you should be getting for dinner. Add poached eggs on top, stir, and the day will really turn around for you." - aimee rizzo

Where To Get A Last-Minute Group Dinner On Capitol Hill

"There aren’t many seats inside this small Eastern European diner, but it’s still easy to get a table here on a random weekday at 7pm. The whole menu is filled with hearty dishes like tender braised brisket, Russian dumplings, latkes, and Georgian boat pizza filled with farmer’s cheese and ham. If you want to feed your friends a comforting meal but don’t have it in you to cook, take them to Dacha." - aimee rizzo

"A Slow-Food Brunch at Skillet Skillet started life as a food truck, and you’ll still see their mobile kitchen popping up around Seattle throughout the week (check their website for location info). But sometimes it’s easier to head to one of their permanent diners, where you know they’ll be in the same place day after day. The truck always offers their famous burger and poutine, along with rotating specials, but the restaurants have an expanded menu, including an excellent brunch. Locally roasted Fonte coffee is served while you wait, which is a good thing, as the line can be long (an hour or more on weekends for brunch). The dinner menu is hearty, rib-sticking comfort food like southern fried chicken or pork belly confit. If you see elk meatloaf on the menu, order it without hesitation — it’s out of this world."

Eight of us walked in at the 10am on a Saturday and were able to be seated immediately. Eddie our server was awesome. Lots chicken and flavorful combinations of breakfast and lunch served all day.

Google
A diner like setting with ok food. I found the sizing of the portion to be large which is nice. But the taste of the food was too salty They give a 10% discount for a 5 star review on yelp, so if you look at the reviews on that platform take them with a grain of salt

Google
The location is very convenient although street parking is pretty tight. I had the scrambled eggs in toasted with potatoes and it was delicious along with the iced tea. The server was very friendly and attentive and came by frequently to check up on me. This is a good spot to grab a bite to eat.

Google
cute little place in seattle and definitely worth a visit. our server Jill was amazing and the food was spectacular. the atmosphere was cozy but fun and bright. prices were reasonable (especially for the city). definitely would recommend for a breakfast bite.

Shelley Carr

Google
It’s a popular breakfast place so it can be tough to get a table, but it’s pretty solid food. I’ve tried about half the menu, it’s very fried chicken forward but the fried chicken is excellent, so give at least one of those dishes a try. Eggs are cooked correctly, tasty potatoes, overall quite good.

Google
The Skillet Diner location at Capitol Hill was a nice lunch visit. Wasn't blown away by anything in particular, but the bacon was solid and waffles tasty.

Google
Excellent service, fast and friendly. The food was exceptional, some of the best we've had since getting here. Would highly recommend. We had the poutine, the breakfast sammy, and cluck chub.

Google
Food is consistent, tasty and are large portions. Though as others have mentioned some of the dishes can be randomly quite salty. Service is awesome, everyone is kind, fun and attentive. While not really part of the Atmosphere I took stars away because of the serious lack of parking and because of how local neighbors treat you when you mistakenly park in "their" spot.

Yelp
Staff very polite and attentive food was delicious and vibe was great. Will be returning!

Yelp
Service amazing! Food cooked well and quickly! The Robert pancake sandwich was great!

Yelp
Amazing service - loved it here! Great food and company. Easy to make a reservation for large party.

Yelp
Came here in a Sunday morning! Place was pretty packed but they got us seating. There's some outdoor seating too which is accommodating of pets. Having a conversation is kind of hard since where we were seated, there were people directly to the left and right of us talking and it's hard not to hear everything. Service was pretty good and fast. Food was decent too. Kind of over-priced for the quality. We heard the chicken wasn't the best so we didn't order any chicken menu items. We got French toast, shareable Mac and cheese and the avocado breakfast burrito with fries. The French toast was ok. Lacking flavor or taste. The Mac and cheese was pretty good but bland and tasted a tiny bit watery. The best item we ordered, that I would order again, was the avocado breakfast burrito. Super tasty and fresh. The fries in the burrito paired nicely as well.
google avatar

Jamil R.

Yelp
This feel like a very classic Seattle vibe. It's definitely a little more packed than I thought it would be, it's hard to have a more personal conversation, it feels like I'm a part of everyone else's conversation around me. Overall the food is pretty good. I can't say it's worth the price but I think it's pretty typically for Seattle. I would return if I find myself really wanting to feel like a typical seattleite at some point in the future. No parking lot, find street parking.

Yelp
Yelp Review for Skillet If you're looking for an incredible breakfast spot, Skillet is a must-visit! Their fried chicken sandwich with jam is absolutely phenomenal--crispy, juicy chicken perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the jam. It's a flavor combination that will leave you wanting more. The menu is creative, and the drinks are equally impressive. Their boozy brunch cocktails are expertly crafted and pair perfectly with the rich, indulgent dishes. The atmosphere is casual yet trendy, making it a great spot for a weekend brunch or gathering with friends. Highly recommend starting your day here--you won't regret it!

Yelp
Skillet Diner in Capitol Hill is an absolute gem, and I have to start by saying how amazing the staff were. As a Florida boy visiting Seattle, I felt immediately welcomed by their friendliness and warmth. They made the whole experience even better. The food was incredible. I didn't have the biggest appetite that day and couldn't take leftovers with me, but I couldn't resist trying the Chicken Chub with bacon jam--it was *so* good. The flavors were out of this world. Also, finding grits that are actually well-prepared is a rare thing, but Skillet nailed it. Their grits were fantastic, and I found myself wishing I could finish every bite. The drinks were just as good, pairing perfectly with the cozy, beautiful decor. It all came together to make the whole dining experience feel special and laid-back at the same time. If you're in the area, Skillet Diner is definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
My friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant while visiting Seattle. The staff was patient and kind. He guided us through the menu and suggested the popular dishes. We ordered the The Cluck Chub, Chicken Sammy and the Breakfast Skillet. The food looked and tasted amazing! The fried chicken in the sandwiches were tender and crispy, and the breakfast taters/fries were cooked perfectly. The skillet was amazing with the mix of fried chicken, breakfast taters, scrambled eggs, veggies and chorizo sauce! 10/10 recommend if you're in the area for some delicious breakfast food!
google avatar

Ann W.

Yelp
Came to Skillet Diner for the first time today. I ordered The Chub and it was incredible! The crossaint bun was so soft; jalapeno aioli and bacon jam bursting with flavors - enjoyed every bite of the sandwich. Morning taters were crispy and so addicting! Service was a bit lacking, however, particularly the host who seated us.

Yelp
We were looking for a sit down breakfast in the downtown core on a weekend. It took a long time to be acknowledged at the entrance, and even longer to be seated. It was odd because there were a lot of tables open and a lot of wait staff running around. It seemed that staff coverage (who was doing what) was a bit ad hoc. A lot of tables needed bussing. Once we were seated it took a long time for someone to come take our order. A very pleasant woman finally stopped and asked us if we'd been served (we hadn't) and once she took us on, things improved. Food was substantial in size. I think they could make portions smaller and no one would go hungry; I know that's the diner ethos but it seemed a bit much. My chilaquiles were huge (more like breakfast nachos); the over easy eggs were well done but the whole thing was a lot wetter (sauce + salsa) than I prefer. My guy liked his chicken and waffles well enough. I would come back to Skillet if I was absolutely famished and needed a lot of breakfast in a sit down environment.

Yelp
I went to Skillet Diner for a Silent Book Club meetup after hours, so I don't think I can truly speak to the experience of dining here. But, I tried the Apple Tart and it was heavenly! Perfect with a decaf coffee :)

Yelp
The service and experience were amazing! Totally recommend! Our experience at the restaurant was made fantastic by the wonderful ambiance, great food selection, and the service we received.

Yelp
Skillet is a good and reliable breakfast meal if you enjoy Carbs, meats, and yummy mimosas options. If you are vegan or vegetarian, there is limited options, the Kale salad is great but you would ask for the fish to be left off. I came by early morning yesterday, 8:40am for a breakfast meeting and had a reservation that requested a quiet area for the working meeting. Customer service was friendly and welcoming but didn't look up my reservation when I gave info and was seated next to the bar tables in front of the two big screen TV's. The sound was low which helped. *We had the Robinson which sounds like a McDonald's McGriddle, a pancake sandwich. This was two large pancakes with one egg and bacon strips in between. Side of Kale Caesar salad. *The chicken and waffles with a side of grits. *Mimosa Flight (3). - (2)Apple mimosa and (1)pomegranate mimosa. Overall Americans eat too quickly given how heavy the sustenance is and given how the establishment wasn't busy nor full, I would suggest alternate locations for a breakfast meeting to not fell rushed to eat and go. Things to note: there's construction in the area that can impact your commute here and parking. The new G line is open and an easy walk here if you are taking mass transit. Noted on the menu is if you leave a 5 star review and show your server, you receive 10%. My review is not comped or impacted by their discount, nor did I receive one for this meal or review.

Yelp
Food was amazing would 10/10 recommend . Great ambience and even more delicious brunch selection

Yelp
Back again! So good. I went to another location yesterday for breakfast but I had lunch today and it slapped.

Yelp
What a nice surprise lunch! Kiddo was craving mac n cheese and I needed some greens! Friendly, affirming space with gender neutral bathrooms, thank you!!!

Yelp
I have had Skillet on the to try list for a while now, and we finally made it. We walked in for breakfast on a holiday, and we were seated immediately. I loved the ambiance and vibe of the place, the service is friendly. We got The Benny, and the Big Bear Breaky with bacon and French toast. The Benny was good, a little too much hollandaise sauce for me, tasted good. The Big Bear Breky was good. We loved the French Toast. The hot chocolate and Mocha were both good.

Yelp
I highly recommend you check this place out for brunch if you're in the Seattle area. I do suggest that you make reservations as they can get busy and the food is THAT good! With so many great options... it was really hard to make a decision. Food is made fresh to order, and the portion sizes are HUGE! We tried the shrimp and grits and Mike's scramble. We just had to try the pancakes, and I wanted a side of grits. The food did NOT disappoint. You are able to order drinks, and the brunch punch and mimosas were delicious. This place gives you old school diner vibes with great customer service! I cannot stress to make reservations ahead of time! We tried to eat here back in February and had to wait over an hour, only to be told an additional 45 minutes. We were sooo disappointed . I made sure to make reservations, we ventured to Seattle back in May, and again, we visited in August. We're already talking about new dishes to try .

Ryan L.

Yelp
I would highly recommend Skillet Capitol Hill to anyone looking for a delicious, memorable meal in a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Be sure to arrive early, as the restaurant can get quite busy, especially on weekends.
google avatar

Dianne T.

Yelp
The staff at the Capitol Hill location was awful. My family came in for breakfast, and when I asked for a decaf coffee they rolled their eyes and in a super-rude way said they didn't have decaf. (Literally half of America is on blood pressure meds and supposed to stay away from caffeinated drinks. So was it really that strange for me to ask for a decaf?) From there the server gave us dirty looks and even ignored our table throughout the rest of our meal. The food was also incredibly mediocre, which was disappointing, since we'd had much better food there in the past.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Amazing music good ambience great breakfast place. Amazing food if you are hungry over.

Yelp
BRUNCH! BRUNCH! BRUNCH! I've visited this wonderful establishment multiple times and every time has been an awesome experience! This place is ALWAYS a vibe whether it's a beautiful weekend day or a rainy Tuesday. You'll always get the perfect pick me up fix here. The mimosas are strong and flavorful. The food is beautifully prepared and served in large portions. Definitely shareable! They have an awesome breakfast menu with the best scrambles. Lunch is great as well! Try the fried chicken it won't disappoint. Oh! And the Kale Ceasar! Top notch!!! And BONUS... they have gluten free buns! Customer service is top notch! Waiters and staff are always friendly and provide quality service! Always will be a favorite in capitol hill!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Skillet was definitely some good food. Slightly on the pricey side but it's Capitol Hill so it's expected. The only reason it's 4/5 was the service left a little to be desired. Other than that the place is very busy and bustling. If you don't get there early or have a reservation than good luck. I had the cluck chub sandwich with Mac and cheese and it was super rich but very good. They definitely do chicken right. My wife had the basic breakfast with a waffle and I gotta say that the waffle was amaaaaazing. Best waffle I have ever had out.
google avatar

Kristin H.

Yelp
I always love coming to Skillet. Service is always fast and the food is delicious. There is a wide selection on the menu. I had the breakfast skillet with chicken, chicken and waffles, and biscuits with gravy. The mac and cheese looked delicious as well but will have to save that for another time as the portions are HUGE! Nice casual vibes here; great place for a casual brunch. Will be returning!
google avatar

Yelp
Great ambiance, seated quickly, I saw chorizo biscuits and gravy and had to give it a try and I am not disappointed! My bf got the breakfast Sammy and the jalapeño aioli is so delicious! Def recommend!

Yelp
Food is absolutely wonderful! Ordered Mike's Scramble and a couple more things. Will revisit soon.

Yelp
If you're looking for an unforgettable brunch experience in Seattle, Skillet Diner on Capitol Hill is a must-visit. This trendy yet welcoming spot combines classic American diner vibes with inventive twists on comfort food. The menu offers standout items like the Fried Chicken & Waffle--crispy and flavorful--or the donut holes, served with a delightful side of Nutella and jam. Another popular dish is "The Chub," a hearty burger with bacon, egg, and cheese that's perfect for a filling brunch. The atmosphere is lively, and the service is consistently friendly, even during the busy weekend rush. Just be prepared for a wait if you visit during peak hours; Skillet is popular for a reason! With a creative menu and an upbeat, casual setting, Skillet Diner makes for a great spot to enjoy delicious, thoughtfully crafted comfort food in Seattle.
google avatar

Michele O.

Yelp
Amazing brunch spot with classic diner vibes! We showed up at 9am with no reservation with 10 people - probably a nightmare for most places for a Sunday brunch. They managed to accommodate us on their patio (had to take advantage of people being unwilling to sit outside when it was a bit chilly) and got our food and drinks out pretty quickly. It was so appreciated as we were coming from out of town and meeting up with people we haven't seen in a while. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which was delicious. The piece of chicken I got was massive and perfectly fried, and the waffle wasn't too sweet and held up well structurally. The food everyone else got looked great too. We'll definitely be back the next time we're craving brunch in Capitol Hill!

Yelp
Came here for breakfast today, it was absolutely delicious food! I ordered Chicken and Waffles, very well done. Would recommend. The waffles are corn meal and perfectly sweet. Service was great: quick, friendly, and attentive. The restaurant was clean and had a cute ambiance. Music is right on point for Capitol Hill
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Good service. Immaculate vibes. Came here on a Thursday morning with some friends and left happy and full.
google avatar

Yelp
Service by Riley was incredible. He has a great sense of humor. I've eaten at Cap Hill Skillet. The one in Post Alley is less busy for lunch and nice place to go when visiting the Art Museum nearby.
google avatar

Jesy T.

Yelp
Walked in Friday morning with a party of 12, very accommodating to get us all seated. I started off the morning with a nice breakfast shot; loved it! The bourbon was nice and sweet like a syrup and paired so well with the OJ and bacon. For my entree, I did the avocado breakfast burrito with a side of taters. The burrito was ok, it was cooked very well and was fresh, but wasn't to my liking; it seemed a bit plain and as if it was missing something. Overall, tons of options to pick from and the place is pretty cute. The portions of food are a decent size too.
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
First time in Seattle and this was the spot we hit up for breakfast. To our surprise the place was pretty empty for the most part and they were able to accommodate my family of 12 easily. Staff were amazing , friendly and made sure to take care of us as soon as possible. We actually walked to this location because it was a couple blocks down from our Airbnb we were staying at. Best part is it is located just a 10 min walk from downtown ! Now as far as the food , it was pretty good, but I think I was expecting more as far as taste. Presentation was great and brought up the ratings but I would say it was a bit more drier than I thought. Drinks is where it had me. Had a breakfast shot and a fruity drink. I don't quite remember the name, but if you see a drink that has all the tropical drinks that's it ! Was so refreshing and hit the spot!
google avatar

A R.

Yelp
Great food, large portions! The chorizo biscuits and gravy sounds weird but it was delicious. Great service and we didn't have to wait on a Friday morning around 10am. Loved the place so much I bought a T-shirt and a mug.
google avatar

Kalina S.

Yelp
Pretty standard brunch spot, but super solid! Clean and modern with great servers and one of my go-to brunch spots in Seattle.
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
I quite like this place for brunch. On a Sunday there is generally street parking close by, maybe a few blocks away, but not too far. There is sometimes a wait depending on what time you go, but it's worth a little bit of wait time. I tench to get something with chicken when I go and always have pleasant conversations with anyone that works there. They also have had cold brew in the past that will jolt you back to life. If you find yourself in the area and you're looking for some American food Skillet will amply provide what you need at a price that doesn't break the bank.
google avatar

Caroline X.

Yelp
Love this brunch spot whenever I am craving a great chicken sandwich for brunch. The chicken is well seasoned and fried; it's crunchy and perfect with the sauce. Another must-try here is the Mac 'n' cheese; it's so cheesy and delicious! The Fried Chicken Breakfast Skillet is also another favorite of mine, with its perfectly cooked egg atop flavorful fried chicken, accompanied by roasted potatoes, bell peppers, and onions in the skillet. It satisfies all my needs for a breakfast meal! It's also fun to try the breakfast shots, which include a shot of bourbon and a shot of orange juice with a slice of bacon! It's such a great fix for my hangover. The ambiance has a modern dinner decor vibe, adding to the overall experience. There could be a little wait during busy weekend brunch times. But the staff took our orders fast and served the food quickly. Definitely coming back for more great brunch times!

Sue F.

Yelp
Had an amazing brunch at Skillet Diner! I ordered The Chub with a side of mac and cheese, and it was a perfect comfort food combo--rich, flavorful, and satisfying. My sister went with the 'Your Way' option and chose French toast, which was fluffy, sweet, and beautifully cooked. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous without being overwhelming. The service was also top-notch--attentive and friendly without feeling rushed. Definitely planning to come back
google avatar

Caleb O.

Yelp
Love their mimosa fight! Service was good and food was absolutely delicious. Very cool and relaxed atmosphere.

E L.

Yelp
I believe I got THE CLUCK CHUB and it was very delicious! I asked for no bacon jam but they didn't take it off and I'm glad they didn't! It gave it even more flavors! The waitress that helped me was very patient with my cause I'm a picky eater and she's the one that recommended the chicken too me! Would come back here again if I ever come back to Seattle!
google avatar

Sherly H.

Yelp
I've been to skillet a few times and every time I leave full and satisfied. Their food is delicious for both brunch and dinner. I've tried their salmon sandwich, hot honey chicken sandwich (with an egg) and a breakfast plate containing: eggs, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit (the biscuit was wonderful). My bfs go to order is the chub with a side tomato bisque soup but last time we visited he loved my hot honey chicken sandwich so much he considered switching his future order . Tips / recommendations: fries over the breakfast potatoes (garlic fries were phenomenal) and make reservations if possible, especially during brunch. This place tends to get busy and there are usually people waiting to be seated.
google avatar

Oriana C.

Yelp
The longest wait everrrrrr! BUT, the fried chicken skillet was delicious! Daughter ordered some donut balls - SOOOO GOOD :D I would call ahead and make reservation instead of waiting 40 minutes for a table.
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
I've heard about this brunch place for a while now and finally decided to try it out. I went on a Saturday around 3pm and it wasn't too busy, with no wait time. As for the food, I got the avocado breakfast burrito with poutine and the cluck chub sandwich with morning taters to share. The burrito was pretty mild in flavor and I'd say it's a safe option. The chicken sandwich was yummy with the over easy egg running. The sides were quite salty though, the poutine more than the taters, which knocks it down a star for me. Both came with a side of ketchup. Overall, I really liked the atmosphere and would come again if I was in the area. Definitely a solid spot.

T G.

Yelp
** They offer 10% off the check for a 5-star review shown to server before paying; take that into account on the reviews here. Been happily coming here for years, but last 2 visits have been pretty disappointing (especially for my out of towners!) Food is falling flat. The flavors are there, but the breakfast sandwiches were limp. Breakfast potatoes were mushy. Kitchen missed part of our pancake order; when brought out, it had mushy fruit on it (we didn't ask for). Place seemed understaffed on the service side. Decent wait to be seated, orders taken, etc. Didn't help that it looked like one person was just sort of hanging in the back, jumping in occasionally. Add that all into some prices that have moved into $20-$25 for entrees; the value just isn't there at this price point. Hoping for a return to greatness here, but for now - you can do better on the brunch front.
google avatar

Janelle J.

Yelp
They advertise 10% off your bill if you leave a 5-star review so take these raving reviews with a grain of salt. I didn't know that when I saw the great reviews but I wish I had. Anyway. Stopped by for brunch last Saturday. We have never been and decided to go into Seattle to try something. We were seated by the window which was really drafty. The service was fast and friendly. I ordered an apple mimosa. It was good, it tasted like sparkling apple cider. For food I ordered the chub and my boyfriend had the cluck chub. I thought the bacon jam made it too sweet. And the fried chicken in the cluck chub was pretty mid. I was craving fries so I ordered garlic fries. I don't know what I was expecting. Maybe a garlic sauce or something? But it was literally raw minced garlic on top of fries. And the fries could have been cooked longer. They were pretty pale and soggy. For what they offer it seemed expensive to me. Overall I would not choose to come back here.

Leigh K.

Yelp
I'm writing this solely based on customer service. Food was good and I would try again. Granted we were awkward in the beginning because we weren't sure how to order. And they really frowned on you if you chose a table before ordering. My SO and I sat down at a two top but the table was awfully unsteady. So we decided to move to one of the many other tables open. The male server rudely stated how he'd prefer we sat at the bar or two top . Understandable if there weren't numerous tables open and numerous other four tops with 1 or 2 people sitting at them. The same server brought half our drinks never came back with the Bloody Mary despite being asked about it. He also disappeared on his phone multiple times. Very unpleasant atmosphere due to his unpleasantness.

Yelp
Skillet Diner is hands down the best brunch spot in town! The vibe is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The menu has something for everyone, but the star of the show for me was the avocado toast -- fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the coffee was just what I needed to start my day. Everything was delicious, and the service was top-notch. Can't wait to return to Skillet Diner for another amazing brunch!

Eugene D.

Yelp
WOW! What a phenomenal experience. This was our second time attending Skillet Diner and let me tell you, the food did not disappoint. We both ordered The Cluck Chub. The speed of service and overall environment was wonderful. Shout out to our awesome server Rachel and her wonderful humor and recommendations. My husband and I will certainly be returning in the future for another amazing experience!!
