"The Skirball is home to an award-winning family destination that's not to be missed: Noah’s Ark. Housed in an 8,000-square-foot gallery, the exhibit is a one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully designed, innovative, hands-on learning opportunity for kids—and parents. The floor-to-ceiling ark encourages play through rainbows, storms, and hundreds of handcrafted animals constructed from recycled materials. You can build, climb, serve pretend food, and touch everything. And when you’re ready for a break, head to the back room, where scheduled sing-alongs and story time take place throughout the week." - Mel Kaspin Blume

Fun place for the kids to explore while there are exhibits that cater to adults. The Ark exhibit requires a timed-entry reservation (90 mins). Kids spent so much time exploring and playing in the Ark. The family art station has a new craft for your children to make/color/decorate. Parking is free.

It was awesome. The exhibits were beautiful. The Noah's Ark exhibit was amazing. Very kid-friendly. I loved the Jack Kirby comic exhibit.

My daughter, husband and I loved the Noah's Ark Exhibition. We also took part in their story time and art class. Thursdays are free and tend to get booked right away so try reserving tickets right away at the beginning of each month!

We visited the many exhibits including Noah’s Ark. It made us feel like kids again for a brief time. Wonderful! Kids would love the Ark! Don’t forget to see the rainbow 🌈 wall and snap a photo 📸 with your loved ones. We learned an interesting tidbit from one of the tour guides who asked if we noticed that all the birds; whether painted or made from recycled items that posed as birds, were in fact flying all in the same direction towards the Ark! They also have an exhibit called “The Blacklisted”. Not for kids but grownups who want to learn about the era of time gone by involving communism. Beautiful grounds. Recommended.....

The Skirball Cultural Center is such a peaceful, enriching experience. I came for an exhibit on Jewish heritage and was blown away by how well-curated and informative it was. The grounds are also beautiful, with lots of space to wander and enjoy the outdoors. The staff was really friendly and knowledgeable. A lovely place to visit for those looking to combine culture with relaxation

Google
The permanent exhibits and Noah's Ark are worth the visit, but they get the most amazing temporary exhibits, and other programs. Keep checking in to see. Thursdays are free

If you have a Bank of America credit card, you can get in for free on certain dates with their benefits program “Museums On Us”. Check it out if you do. Also, if you’re planning to grab a bite to eat at their cafe, it closes at 3:30pm (at least on Sunday when we tried getting thru locked doors at 3:24pm!).

Yelp
This was a true gem of a museum (cultural center). My wife really wanted to see the Diane von Furstenberg exhibit and I knew that I had no interest...however, it was pretty interesting as you learn about her impact on a specific type of clothing that is still around today. There were a number of exhibits that were interesting to see and it was immensely interesting. They had built a Sukkah (program was called "Mindfulness in the Sukkah) in an atrium area behind the registration counter with living walls and held hourly sessions outside to learn about the Sukkah, the idea behind the design, and the history. It was really cool and inspiring for. our own sukkah for the following year. Other exhibits that we saw were the "Ancient Wisdom for a Future of Ecology: Trees, Time, and Technology", On the National Language: The Poetry of America's Endangered Tongues" which was seriously interesting and sad that so many languages were now gone to the ages; "Later in Life: Adult B'nai Mitzvah" which has a nice movie to watch. It's a nice museum with some interesting exhibits just down the street from the Getty Museum and well worth the visit.

Yelp
What a great museum! Such friendly volunteers and nicely laid out. The gift shop is filled with fun and interesting items; I was able to cross some names off of my Christmas shopping list. The Diane von Furstenberg exhibit was beautifully curated, displaying dresses and photos spanning the designers career. So enjoyable. The standing exhibits were also so well done. It's easy to spend a couple of hours here.
google avatar

Yelp
Dianne von Furstenberg Woman Before Fashion opened on Oct. 17th and it's a must check out! A big exhibit with samples of her iconic wrap dresses. National Language: The Poetry of America's Endangered Tongues also opened and definitely worth walking through to learn about 46 portrays of speakers of endangered languages who are living in the US. And a very cool exhibit called Ancient Wisdom for a Future Ecology: Trees, Time and Tech. Interactive exhibit where you can create a personal tree tributes using AI software! Noah's Ark is great for kids! Free parking lots available and charging for EVs.

Yelp
Great museum with lots to see. We came to see the Noah's art exhibit which required a time ticket, separate from general admission. The ticket for general is $18. You have 90 minutes slot which well enough time to enjoy the exhibit. It is a hands on exhibit, which is great for kids! Facility is very clean, and well kept. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Pros + free parking at north, east, and south lots. South lot is dedicated to disabled. + lots to see + 2 restaurants on site

Yelp
Skirball Cultural Center is beyond fabulous! *PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFO ABOUT The Skirball Cultural Center, founded in 1996, is a Jewish educational institution in Los Angeles, California. The center, named after philanthropist couple Jack H. Skirball and Audrey Skirball-Kenis, has a museum with regularly changing exhibitions, film events, music and theater performances, comedy, family, literary, and cultural programs. The campus includes a museum, a performing arts center, conference halls, classrooms, libraries, courtyards, gardens, and a café. Although the center has its roots in Jewish culture, it is open to individuals of all ages and cultures. ****** Last night's event was held here and it was thrilling to see and hear my 3 favorite writers talk about their processes. Laurie R King, Walter Mosley and Michael Connolly are "grand masters of the mystery world"... They are all friends and peers so the conversations flowed. The gardens leading up to the venue are lovely from the FREE PARKING LOT...Seriously, a huge bonus! So many interesting things going on here. Highly appreciated and recommended!!!

Yelp
The Skirball campus is a Jewish cultural and learning institution that's open to all. On the grounds include a museum, performing arts theater, a cafe, classrooms, courtyards, gardens and a convention area. Located on Sepulveda off the I-405 Freeway with the back drop of the Santa Monica mountains, the museum host several long standing exhibits, such as Noah's Ark and The Jewish Life Antiquity to America Also exhibits that run for a limited time such as Black is Beautiful and This Light of Ours: Activist Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement. The facilities are easy to navigate from one to the next. There are really nice views to capture a few selfies or family shots. I have visited several times for events and to check out some cool exhibits with the family. A great facility for any occasion

Alex W.

Yelp
The Noah's Ark exhibit was amazing and incredibly engaging for my two year old, and the quality of the sculptures was really impressive for the adults as well. Also, every single staff member we interacted with in this place was extremely warm and friendly.

Yelp
Beautiful place. The Candlelight concert was amazing & intimate. I loved it. We would definitely come back, to check it out some more.

Yelp
Very informative place to learn for a couple of hours. Smaller than I expected. But still a good place to visit.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I saw a candlelight concert there and really enjoyed it. The facility is beautiful and parking was so easy. Right off freeway so easy to get to.

Yelp
Awesome place for the kiddos and field trips ! Children are happy here and teachers too. The staff keeps everyone very organized! I love that the students stay busy and it's not crowded at all!
google avatar

Heidie S.

Yelp
Visited for a Candlelight tribute strings event for Radiohead. So awesome!! Great ambiance with all the candles lit up at the Ahmanson Hall. The grounds are huge. Didn't go exploring but it looks like it would be cool to do so.
google avatar

Yelp
Candlelight Concerts by Fever Orchid Quartet- Whitney Houston. A string quartet playing their versions of pop music hits. Don't expect a wall of sound or amplified performances, it's quiet, low-key, stringed instrumental muzak. There are four members, three very talented and expressive: cellist, violist, & second violinist with outward personalities and one lead violinist who seemed very stiff & robotic who didn't speak at all. Overall it was a sedate evening of Whitney Houston who would belt out a rambunctious aria in real life, alas, there was no power tonight, may she rest in peace.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
If you are hiring the Skirball for a special event their sound people are terrible. They completely ruined an event I was hired to perform, unprepared and unprofessional. Really was shocked.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
I went to see the Orchid Quartet perform. This night was dedicated to Hans Zimmer. Amazing show and a beautiful venue for events. Plenty of parking in the garage on the North side. The parking garage has elevators on the ground level. There is a cafe and they will have workers that will escort you to your seat before the show starts. This is a great place to attend events.

Yelp
I went to The Skirball last week. I went to see the "I'll Have What She's Having": The Jewish Deli exhibit. I liked what I saw in the exhibit. I liked learning about delis in historical and cultural context. Unfortunately, the exhibit has a timed-entry of 90-minutes, so I did not get to thoroughly see the entire exhibit. I wish guests had at least 2 hours to explore the exhibit. On my visit, I also visited the Audrey's Museum Store where I purchased two bottles of Dr. Brown's Root Beer. On my visit, I also visited Judy's Counter where I got a to-go Chinese Chicken Salad. The salad was a bit bland, the chicken a bit dry, and it could have used more dressing. I enjoyed my time at The Skirball overall, and plan to go back soon.

Yelp
Always very very thoughtful, timely exhibits. Well worth the visit. Also a beautiful building in a beautiful setting. Easy free parking and an excellent gift shop.

Yelp
I met my parents at the Skirball Cultural Center to see an exhibit about the history of Jewish deli's called "I'll Have What She's Having". The name is based on the famous scene from "When Harry Met Sally". It took weeks to get tickets and, let me tell you, it was as mediocre as a bagel with no cream cheese. It was only $15 but the exhibit can be viewed in 15 minutes and there was nothing interactive or really memorable about it. Fortunately, there are other rotating and permanent exhibit spaces that more than make up for the deli experience. Easily accessible from the 405 and so much easier to park than the nearby Getty Center. Staff is plentiful and very friendly. Very strict Covid protocols are still in place so bring your N95 masks and proof of vaccination. The grounds are gorgeous and the exhibits are historic and very well done. The have meeting rooms, lecture halls and banquet space. I have always heard of this place and the deli exhibit was a good excuse to see this facility for the first time and view much more of my heritage than I ever expected.

Yelp
I went to the Skirball in June and had a great time with my family. The last time I went was years ago so when I saw they were holding a Maurice Sendak exhibit, as a fan I wanted to visit it. First, I have to say that everyone here was extremely friendly! Very helpful and just so nice. I thought it was going to be very crowded but it wasn't, it was perfect. Noah's Ark was pretty cool too, though I think children would find this one more appealing. They had lots of mini activities to do so I think it's a nice place to visit with kids. We then grabbed some sandwiches at Judy's Corner and the ladies there were also very friendly. The sandwiches were pretty yummy too. I loved how calm it was to sit outside and rest. It's a beautiful campus for sure. I'd definitely come back to visit!

Willow E.

Yelp
This is such a wonderful venue! It is so beautiful with such interesting, thoughtfully curated shows. It is also a wonderful place to have an important event. The visual layout is pure eye-candy. Everyone there is so kind and helpful making everyone feel very welcome. I was especially enlightened and enjoyed my conversation with Jamie Blenkle who was so friendly and helpful as was everyone at the Skirball. He took time and consideration by sharing his knowledge with me. I appreciated our conversation and his assistance. The Maurice Sendak show is a must-see! What a wonderful body of work in this show. I also appreciated seeing the artists and writers who inspired him as part of the show, It really rounded out the understanding of who this wonderful artist was.

Yelp
What a wonderful cultural experience! My recent visit to the Skirball was thought provoking, educational and a movinging visual encounter. The center itself is welcoming and full of helpful curators and staff. Parking is on site and easily accessible. The cultural center store is filled with great finds from sophisticated paint by number sets to books and souvenirs. Don't miss the cafe. The chef and staff create a variety of deliciousness. As I was there for a special opening, we were treated to a variety of canapes and hors d'oeuvres. Check the website for the unique exhibitions offered. They change throughout the year. In addition, there are many educational programs and cultural immersion opportunities. I hope you enjoy this cultural jewel as much as I did.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never reviewed this place! I've been here many times, most recently for Scott Mantz' Star Trek movie and tv episodes Marathon and the Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds exhibit. There's something very peaceful and magical about this place. The Jewish teaching of welcoming the stranger is most definitely practiced via the staff's hospitality, their helpfulness, and their welcoming attitude. The grounds are absolutely beautiful (think Getty Center -- but on a quiet weekday when not many people are around) -- make sure you take a walk around next time you're on your break at a conference or just when you're visiting one of the amazing museum installations. The location is perfect away from the hustle and bustle of both West LA and the Valley. Oh, and did I mention free parking? Just a bonus perk. Welcoming indeed. Can't wait top return.

Yelp
Great place! Everyone very helpful. Food at the cafe was delicious!. The history and the artists are so talented!

Yelp
Live long and prosper, Skirball Center. First time visiting the Skirball Cultural Center for the Star Trek exhibit and I absolutely loved it. (I have to admit I didn't have time to visit the other exhibits, so this review is somewhat limited in scope.) Thank you, Skirball, for providing me with free admission due to being a essential worker as determined by the State of California during the pandemic. Check out their website for a list of visitors that they allow to enter for free: www.skirball.org . COVID protocol: You must be fully vaccinated or have proof of a recent negative COVID test to enter the museum. Masks are required. Thank goodness; I felt very safe and certainly Mr. Spock would approve of these logical adaptations to the pandemic (probably Dr. McCoy would approve as well.) Parking: Absolutely 100% free and conveniently located right next to the museum. Admission: Timed tickets are currently required and can be reserved online. Exhibit: The Star Trek exhibit was out of this world. To see the actual bridge where the original Star Trek was filmed, costumes from the different versions of Star Trek (the original is the only one for me) and interactive displays reflecting the impact of Star Trek on our society was fabulous. I especially enjoyed the thought-provoking activities (creating your own episode of Star Trek, thinking about the implications of the Prime Directive, and discussing whether robots have rights.) Star Trek has been one of my favorite shows for over 50 years. Why? It created a world of diversity, where everyone was equal, and science was taken seriously. Plus, it's also kind of a travel show if you think about it. A different planet every week? Hell, ya. The Skirball Cultural Center has done a magnificent job in showcasing this fantastic show. FIVE STARS.

Yelp
Great venue. Saw candlelight concert. If you have the opportunity to go to any performance or event here, there's no bad seat.

Yelp
Love Noah's Ark exhibit for the kids! They have 3 parking lots but the south one is for handicap only (closest to Noah's Ark). The next closest is the East lot but it is uncovered which is not good during the summer. We parked in the north lot- the furthest one as it has covered parking. This was my first time here so I was not familiar with the campus. It is beautifully landscaped but the flow is awkward. I purchased tickets to Noah's Ark for myself and my 4year old online prior to coming. They only had the last time slot available on Monday if that week. We came about 1hr prior to our slot to check out the rest of Skirball. The gardens and Koi pond are beautiful. Inly Blacklist exhibit is not included. I went right instead of left at the ticket counter and ended up in the Koi Pond. I found the bathroom on the way to the elevator to the 2nd floor where the walking path is located. This took us past the archaeological dig site but it was closed even though it was during it's supposed "open" hours. We kept on the path until we saw the outdoor amphitheater. There are elevators but they are out of the way to get to the exhibit. We went down to the ground floor and found the art studio where we made a sculpture. There is a lovely kids garden here but we didn't have time to enjoy it as our time came. The exhibit starts on the third floor with large animals made out musical instruments and such. Then you get to the main exhibit on the second floor. It is glorious!! It is really interesting and well made. I read the brochure and it was built in 2007 so it is 16 years old. It is made out of carved wood and other materials. They have different interactive parts- pulley system, climbing, turning with books throughout. My 4year old loves it and spent the whole time running around.

Yelp
As a former Bruin, I've always wanted to check out Skirball Cultural Center and I'm glad I finally did recently on a Thursday. Thursdays are free admission but you still need to reserve a time on their website along with which exhibit. I checked out their Jewish Deli exhibit along with their main exhibits. The Jewish Deli exhibit is in one average sized room so I only spent a good 15-20 minutes in it. There is a great photo op near the main lobby and gift shop. Many of the staff during my visit were very friendly and helpful in explaining where to go and what to see. I'm not used to museum staff being friendly so it was a genuine surprise especially after reading previous reviewers' experiences here. My niece and sister also had a great time exploring the Noah's Ark exhibit and the archaeology dig site outdoors. Parking here is free which is a huge plus given it's in LA.

Yelp
I've been to The Skirball many times over the years & every exhibit has been very well done & unique. Several months ago we checked out the amazingly detailed Star Trek show. The latest one, "I'll Have What's She's Having" The Jewish Deli exhibit closes on 9/18/22. We saw the show a few days ago or I would have told you sooner. It's a very interesting & food-centric show starting with how Jewish Delicatessen's began in America (in several states besides NY & LA) 150 years ago, introducing many "foreign" dishes to the USA now commonplace. I loved the vintage matchbooks, WWII references, menu's, signage, deli uniforms, kitchen tools & video's. There's also a faux food display. As far as this sprawling cultural center goes the grounds are lovely & serene, the employees are helpful & welcoming. There's Free Thursdays & Free parking. Besides the special shows there are several other exhibits for both kids & adults going on at the same time, a cool gift shop & a few places to grab a nosh.

Yelp
(* This review is only for the current Star Trek exhibition, not the entire museum). Wow! What a great afternoon! We booked tickets for this exhibition as soon as they were released as we are avid Trekkies. Big day came and it was easy to park (free) and walk through the garden path to the exhibition area. The staff were all really friendly and helpful - thank you to everyone who made our day even more special with their kind remarks, Trekkie talk and for making sure we were safe during a pandemic. From the initial welcome in the car park where our temps were taken to the exhibition security who gave us the live long and prosper sign as we left - the staff were a credit to the museum. Now to the exhibition itself. Great props and costumes on show, and loved the tribbles hidden all over ;) I felt the costumes would have been better presented with a mirror behind them so you could see the detail on the back but I'm just picky! Loved the interactive video cameo where you could feature in your own star trek movie....soooo much fun and so exciting for Trekkie nerds. Yup, caught it all live and IG'd it :) The tickets were timed and we overstayed our time but luckily we weren't asked to leave (it wasn't very full) so we really did an in depth look at everything, including how to sew our next fleet uniforms from the original Janeway costume. So much thought had gone into the exhibition and it was fantastic. The pop up shop was full of Trekkie swag which proved very tempting. Been there, done that, bought the Red T shirt ;) We have never visited the Skirball Museum previously, even though we have covered every inch of the Getty villa and museum. Obviously we have to remedy that in the near future. If they can create such a wonderful exhibit of Star Trek paraphernalia to such a high standard I can only imagine what the rest of the museum will be like. I just wish their Star Trek online talks weren't so expensive as we would have loved to have attended them.

Yelp
Skirball Cultural Center has something for everyone. Permanent exhibit is Vision and Values to embody the mission of Skirball as a Jewish Cultural Center connecting with all people and cultures they serve. Noah's Ark is aimed for all ages and particularly ages 2-10 (IMO). Is a hands on interactive exhibit made of all recycled materials and has a friendly staff and atmosphere. Temporary exhibits can appear in 3 additional galleries. Their largest gallery - currently - has Star Trek on exhibit. What a neat and unique display ... LLAP or live long and prosper as they say is a major connection point between the show(s) and Skirball (when you visit you'll know why). Set costumes and miniatures are displayed throughout and an interactive transport set allows Scotty to "beam you up". Seasonal lectures, concerts, and events occur at the Skirball. You'll have to follow them on social media to find out what and when. You'll never know who you'll bump into either (hint). Enjoy. Uncovered and covered parking available in 3 separate lots.

Yelp
This review is for the Noah's ark exhibit. My two year old loves it. Great place to let children explore on their own.
google avatar

Char L.

Yelp
Took the kids to Noah's Ark today and they had a blast. Kids are 4 and 1 for reference. Everything inside the play space was open to touch and play. Lots of stuffed animals, climbing structures, play food, musical instruments, and arts and crafts. Kids were able to go outside to the adjacent amphitheater for a break and snack time. You get 90 minutes inside Noah's Ark and that time goes by fast. Our kids would have kept on playing if we had let them. But at least after the ark, there is an archeological dig in another section of the museum or there is an arts and crafts room. Easy, free parking. Friendly staff. Will bring the kids back to play.

Yelp
The Skirball is Amazing. My family and I loved going here when we lived in the valley. We went to exhibits on Superman, Star Trek, The Muppets and more. They were all amazing. And with a young daughter we of course went to Noah's Ark many times. If you have young kids, Noah's Ark is MUST1

Lynne M.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to go with your children. This place has so much to offer they had music classes, an option to do some art, story time, etc. I definitely recommend going, and I definitely recommend having a reservation.

Yelp
this was a nice little museum! It's free for everyone on thursdays. I'll be back for sure

Yelp
Delightful museum. We saw an exhibit on Jewish deli's which was informative, well produced & educational. The second exhibit was about helping people different from yourself produced by a Korean immigrant for her community in skid row. The food in Julie's cafe was only 2 stars.

Yelp

Yelp
I stopped by because I was in the middle of stuff and needed a place to change into different clothes. They were super nice and had no issues with me doing so and from the little I saw, the place looked really nice. Park across the street and check-in with the parking attendant to get a sticker.
google avatar

Vivian C.

Yelp
$12 Admission, but free to all on Thursdays! Yes, we went to the Skirball Cultural Center for a short visit on a Thursday. They have parking available across the street - just wait for the crossing lights to change to stay safe! We came primarily for the Noah's Ark exhibit. It was rather cool, with the animals made of a variety of materials. It is located on several levels, accessible via elevator.

Yelp
I had such a great experience at this location. The architecture is absolutely amazing and breathtaking. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great time out in Los Angeles great place to bring your tourist relatives/friends. Please make sure to bring some water because he can get very hot up there!

Yelp
I was so excited to come here today only to be leaving disappointed because I was declined access and told I need to buy a ticket even though I am a Bank of America pass holder and this museum falls under their museums on us program. I checked in at information and then was turned away by some guy taking his volunteer job way too seriously that I couldn't go in without buying a ticket. Someone didn't get the memo. No wonder the parking lot is so empty. With this type of customer service, who'd want to come here? Shameful bc my last visit years ago was so amazing and today leads me to this disappointing review. Where do you guys find these robots? It's like talking to a telemarketer reading off of a pamphlet. Just say what you have available today or if you don't have availabilities today. Just such a lack of normalcy.

Yelp
I've only been here one other time, which was a long time ago, and today I went to see the Notorious RBG exhibit. It was really awesome to read about her adversities before she became a lawyer and judge, what an amazing woman and human being! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her personal life and how she met Marty, her advocating for not just women's rights but for human equality, and the depiction of her stylish collar collection was fun to read about as well! There's a section where you can do a photo op wearing a robe and collar if you'd like, so I appreciate Skirball CC for incorporating this since you're not allowed to photograph any other part of the exhibit (understandably so). Tickets were $12, which I thought was worth it, bc parking is free. There's a gift shop that also sells RBG memorabilia, which I got some badass buttons and a "dissent collar" necklace. There are some cool finds in here!
