It was my first experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant, so let’s start with the positives. The service was great, the ambience spot on, and the starters were excellent. I’ve never experienced so many layers of flavour before - each one-bite dish was beautifully executed and genuinely stimulated the appetite. I was really excited for what was to come next.
Miss:
Unfortunately, it went downhill after the starters (with the exception of the scallop and miso custard - these were perfect, in my opinion). I’ve seen a lot of praise for the lobster on sourdough, but I’d have to disagree. Personally, I could barely taste the lobster; its delicate flavour and texture were overshadowed by the sourdough and pork fat.
Then came the cod. It was a delicious dish in terms of taste, but 2 out of the 4 portions served at our table contained not just one, but multiple bones. The waiter did offer a complimentary soft pairing as an apology, which we really appreciated.
Desserts, unfortunately, weren’t to my taste. I was especially looking forward to the tiramisu, but it lacked balance and was completely overpowered by what I believe was rum.
Overall:
For the price and the Michelin star, I had very high expectations going in. Some elements were special but the overall experience fell short for me. Still, glad I got to try it but not sure I’d be back.
