"Breathtaking Skógafoss Waterfall On our way from Selfoss to Vik, we passed this gorgeous waterfall called Skógafoss cascading over towering cliffs that used to make up Iceland 's coastline. Long ago the coastline receded towards the sea about 3.1 miles but the former sea cliffs remained, combining with the mountains around them to form a natural dividing line between the coastal lowlands below and the rural highlands above. Skógafoss Waterfall is one of Iceland 's largest, over 80 feet wide and 200 feet tall. If you look closely, you can see from this photo how large the falls are by how tiny the people in the foreground look. Because of its size, the waterfall produces a lot of spray, and on sunny days you're often treated to at least a single rainbow, often a double one. But that same spray can be a shocking surprise when it hits your face on a frigid winter day. If you feel like an added adventure, you can hike a trail up the eastern side of the waterfall all the way to the top for a different perspective of the falls, although that's not recommended during the winter months when the trail is icy and slick. Although I've never seen Skógafoss Waterfall in the summer and imagine it's stunning when surrounded by lush green grass, it's absolutely amazing during the winter when snow and ice adds to its drama. I definitely recommend a trip to Skógafoss Waterfall, a convenient stop just off the road if you're heading to Vik from Selfoss."
"The Skógarfoss waterfall is mentioned as a place where you can imagine your recorded scream echoing. Known for its natural beauty, this iconic Icelandic site offers a stunning location that can help individuals envision future travels once the pandemic restrictions are lifted."
Make sure you hike up the stream about a mile (1.5km) in order to get the real experience. Take the stairs up and keep up the trail. There are intermediary falls and an astonishing canyon.

The fall is easy to access. The parking lot is big and with washroom. Walk directly from parking lot to the bottom of the fall on very flat trail. The fall is very powerful. there is a trail to go to the top of the fall. the view on the trail is beautiful, there are some view points on the top of the river.

Easily accessible from a parking lot. One of the most beautiful and most popular places in Iceland. Nice view of the waterfall from upstairs only accessible in the summer, very slippery and dangerous in the winter.

Easy walk to the falls, but very touristy. Very pretty falls, and if you walk up the steps to the right of the falls, you can see two more waterfalls on that trail.

Absolutely stunning, gorgeous waterfall, most amazing waterfall I have ever been to. Walking under it was an unreal experience I will never forget! You'll get wet, be sure to bring a raincoat! Highly recommend going here, it'll be a life changing experience. If you're a nature lover, be sure to add this to your bucket list!

Unfortunately, there was a lot of water today, so it was almost impossible to get to the waterfall from below with dry feet. There are 465 steps leading up, so you might break a sweat, but the view is definitely worth it. A majestic waterfall.

Lovely waterfall with approch to get under it. The walk from the parking is also quite picturesque. Parking has toilet facilities.

One of the greatest waterfalls for me. Can be visited in 10pm in the summer days. A little windy. Waterproof clothes are good to have when you visit it. Heard about this waterfall from the History channel's series Vikings and was in my to do list from a long time 😀.
