Slate Coffee | Bon Appétit

"The vibe is decidedly not relaxed: This roaster treats coffee like a precious golden elixir. But the baristas are friendly, and it’s all absolutely worth it—yes, even that deconstructed latte. All three locations are compact yet gorgeous. Food choices are minimal, so make this your pre-breakfast destination. PRO TIP: If you have some time to linger, get the tasting flight—not only to actually understand what distinguishes different beans but also to snack on some candied oranges. In a hurry? You can order drinks online. THE DETAILS: Check the website for hours (the Pioneer Square location is closed Sundays)." - Condé Nast

"Slate Coffee, Ballard by Brooks Running Global Creative. Proper coffee. Unique roasts. Attention to detail. Honestly one of the best in the country. Don't ask for 16oz latte, but do take the time to browse their menu and take your time."

Employees at Seattle’s Slate Coffee Roasters Resigned Over Alleged ‘Toxic” Work Environment - Eater Seattle

"Slate Coffee Roasters in Ballard, a popular independent chain with five locations in the Seattle area, faced several employee resignations over the weekend. The employees alleged a 'toxic work environment' at the company, including dishonesty, discrimination, bullying, intimidation, and issues with pay. The resignations included three baristas and one manager from Ballard, and two baristas at locations downtown. Slate is known for specializing in lighter roasts and has been recognized for its excellent espressos and intimate atmosphere. It responded to the situation by stating its intent to understand the concerns raised by former employees." - Gabe Guarente

Amazing place to go explore in Seattle! Loved the service: very friendly! The coffee was very flavorful and aromatic. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the different brews and coffees so the whole experience was very lovely! Had the Flight with 2 hot brews, 2 iced, a deconstructed cappuccino and a hot chocolate. The place is very cozy and small so it is definitely a place to go by yourself or 1-2 friends.

#1 in my list for coffee experience. Try the deconstructed espresso! The espresso has such a unique flavor and the milk is very interesting itself. It’s not really advertised as a latte place, it’s more of a “coffee purist” feel. coffee tasting at its finest.

Great coffee, I got their 12 oz "espresso and milk" and my boyfriend got their 4oz version of same thing. Mine was too milky for my personal taste, I think the sweet spot would be their 6oz offering. Not many seats but very attentive barista.

Great coffee. Small neighborhood feel. Friendly and attentive servers. Can be slow because all of the drinks are time consuming to make and there's often only one person working. That's not an issue for me, because I don't get coffee to go, and part of what I want in a coffee shop is a place to sit for a little while.

Staffs are so kind and nice! We had a deconstructed espresso+ milk. Taste of milk was very special. Highly recommend! Lovely experience in seattle.

Deconstructed cappuccino!? What's that!? After hearing about this I knew I had to try it. The concept is simple but the execution is stunning! I heard about Slate through listening to some coffee podcasts and I really wanted to make it to their OG location. I'm glad I did! Service was some of the best I've had and the coffee is great! The deconstructed cappuccino is a lot of fun and I'm glad I made it in!

Had such an amazing coffee experience here :) The barista knew his coffee and was very kind and chill. Would definitely visit again!

Espresso tastes like dessert...not coffee. Tiny shop so not somewhere I’d hang long, but definitely good spot for some really good caffeine.
