Slice

"A personal welcome from chef-owners Chris and Adam is just one of the charms of this sweet little restaurant hidden away in the Swansea suburbs. The passion and pride of the team comes across not just in the friendly service, but in the carefully prepared dishes centred around seasonally changing ingredients – whether that be fresh crab with watermelon or pan-fried sea bass with butter-poached lobster. Choose from the concise à la carte or opt for the tasting menu for the full experience, accompanied by a well-priced wine pairing." - Michelin Inspector

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Slice in Swansea last night! The restaurant itself is tiny and charming — the building is shaped like a slice of cake, which must be where they got their name. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the chefs downstairs in the kitchen, who kindly took my jacket before we headed upstairs to the intimate dining area. The seating is small and cosy, with just one server managing the entire room, but she was absolutely brilliant — incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional, just as you’d expect in fine dining. We opted for the six-course tasting menu, which began with a beautiful assortment of warm breads paired with two deliciously flavoured butters, followed by a mouthwatering amuse bouche. For starters, my partner and I chose a different dish each — scallop and lamb neck — and shared them. Both were bursting with flavour and beautifully presented, with perfect pairings on the plate. The mains were equally outstanding: cod and langoustine, pork presented four ways, and then a steak fillet with an oxtail and onion tart. Every dish was cooked to perfection and packed with flavour. Dessert was a true highlight — a very stylish and delicious trifle followed by an unforgettable banana soufflé with popcorn ice cream. The soufflé was so light and packed with banana flavour, while the popcorn ice cream took me straight back to childhood with its nostalgic, rich taste. Slice may look like a no-frills, family-run restaurant, but it absolutely surprises you with the decadence and finesse of its plates. It’s already on the Michelin Guide, and I truly believe it could earn a star — although I hope they never lose the cosy charm that makes them so special. A small note to anyone dining at Slice: their card machine currently doesn’t allow you to add a tip, so do bring cash if you’d like to tip (and trust me, you will!). When leaving, the chefs again came out to thank us and say goodbye — a lovely, personal touch to end a perfect evening. We can’t wait to return often, especially with their exciting new menu changes every seven weeks!

We got given a voucher for our 30th birthdays from friends. We had the tasting menu, the food was sublime! Lindsay was the perfect host and explained every dish! We will definitely be back! Thank you again!

This may just be the best dining experience I have had in a long time, offering both great food to the service. This small restaurant is just a hidden gem, tucked away in the back street of Sketty. As soon as we entered the building, we were greeted by the chefs. Which was such a pleasure, which made us feel very welcome and set the evening up nicely. Service was impeccable, with 1 really friendly hostess who knew everything about the dishes and really looked after us throughout the night, and as the restaurant only has 5 to 6 tables, the need for another waitress is redundant and would take away from the experience the 1 hostess brings. It took us about 2.5 hours for the 6 course taster menu and honestly it was nice not to feel rushed for once in a restaurant, as I feel lately most restaurants just want you out as soon as you sit down ... I have seen some reviews saying 2.5 hours is a long time, however I think it is the perfect amount of time for an evening meal, no matter how many courses ... and when the food being served is so technical and not packeted portions like other popular and favoured restaurants around, waiting a little longer is really not something you should be moaning about. On a more merry note, the food was well presented and simply tasted out of this world with so many different textures and flavours. You could see how much passion and effort has been put into each dish and can easily see why this restaurant has achieved a Michelin Star! Lastly, we have to mention the price and ask the question: Is it worth it? ... Oh yes, most definitely, and I know for a fact I will be returning. Thank you Slice for such a lovely evening!

Where is Slice’s Michelin star? My fiancé took us here for our engagement dinner in August. We’ve been to plenty one, two and three Michelin starred places, Slice is definitely competes with some of the best. Dishes were cooked perfectly, delicate tastes and well thought out dishes. The paired wine were great too. Lindsey was warm and friendly which added to the overall amazing experience. Whenever I’m in Swansea, I’ll definitely come again, da iawn!

Such an amazing experience. The food was absolutely stunning, with every tiny element thought through. They were so accommodating with our dietary requirements, not just taking things off the plate but adding individual elements to make sure nobody missed out - including making a whole different dessert! Make sure you bring cash for a tip as they can't accept a tip on card - and trust me, you'll want to tip!

Slice is simply fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit the other night. The restaurant is situated upstairs in a quirky building, accessible up a set of stairs. The staff are friendly and very easy to chat to, and service is professional. The food is of another world - every single course of the tasting menu was both delicate and unique. Would highly recommend the wine we chose as well (see picture), though paired wines are also an option! For anyone on the fence about visiting, please go and support this fantastic establishment. They are worth many visits!!

For me, Slice is the best restaurant in this part of Wales This was my third time at Slice and it was amazing as always. The tasting menu was incredible - the highlights were the cod with langoustines, barbequed beef and the chocolate marquise! The wine pairing and the service were excellent too - thank you so much! A small note: the dining room tends to get quite loud and it would really benefit from some acoustic panels.

Yelp
#1 restaurant out of 521 restaurants in Swansea on TripAdvisor #8 out of 2993 restaurants in Southern Wales That should tell you something about Slice, huh? In a sea of odd ethnic restaurants (pun intended) designed for students of Swansea University, Slice is an exception dedicated to British Fine Dining. Located on a tiny, run-down street in Sketty, Slice sits at a corner in a shape of a cake slice with a large window in their kitchen facing the street so you can watch the Chef and sous chef (just the two of them) making magic. The chef is switched between Adam or Chris, the story is that they take turns manning the front of the restaurant or cooking. The restaurant was previously owned by chefs Helen Farmer and Philip Leach but it was sold to Adam and Chris in 2014 who are maintaining the great reputation that the previous owners established. Slice can seat about 18 people at one time in their upper floor dining area and the tip of the slice is a little bar where they make marvellous but pricey cocktails. The menu is small in both selections and prices - £35 for three courses. I believe that for the most part, the ingredients are locally sourced as it is a small establishment with changing menus. Reservation is definitely necessary. We came for my boyfriend's birthday over the Easter Weekend and had: - four cocktails: great - one port: great selection - amuse bouche of cauliflower soup in an espresso cup: good! - starter crayfish raviolo in crayfish bisque: a huge single ravioli stuffed with crayfish stuffs, a bit bland but tasty. The accompanying cooked lettuce was kinda weird - starter quail egg with coriander spiced barley: Delicious! Never knew you can eat Barley like this! I definitely preferred this over the crayfish pasta - main goat loin, leg pie and pressed shoulder: Amazing! To be fair, I've had goat cooked with less of the earthy taste but the flavouring was done so well that the loin exploded in your mouth. Fantastic pairing with the collard greens. The pie was not to my taste as it was tomato-based but i loved that it was broiled in a little pan. Great presentation on this - main pork loin, pork cheek on a bed of creamy cabbage and frothy dressing on the side: Wonderful! the loins were cooked so well and everything paired together amazingly - dessert selection of british cheese: i'm not a fan of cheese but it was alright - dessert cheesecake with honeycomb grilled pineapple: No good....the cheesecake was kinda weird - apparently baked and then mushed up and baked again. I was neither impressed with the flavour, texture, nor its presentation. I did enjoy the grilled pineapple. The total for everything above was £100 - not bad at all! Overall, I would say that their food is fantastic but their dessert left us wanting. Service is incredible (they did a happy birthday plate for my bf and some brownies cuz he had ordered cheese for dessert). The ambiance and decor is contemporary while homey. Their bathroom had tea towels freshly laundered for individual hand-drying, which was a great touch. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for fine dining in southern wales!

Yelp
We visited here on a recommendation and were hugely impressed. This is a REAL place for foodies. It's upstairs and you can see the kitchen downstairs from outside. It's definitely intimate with only a small number of tables, and has the best service we have had anywhere (and we've been to Michelin star places) from the owner/head server. The food was all locally sourced and she could tell you everything about all of it, and it was all fabulous. They have a small menu available which I understand changes frequently, so each dish is executed perfectly. I had gravalax followed by fish and my husband had venison and although we were both stuffed after two courses we had to have dessert too poached pear with honeycomb icecream when food is this good you can't say no! Only downside was that as it is upstairs I can't see how it could be accessible, which with family with mobility disabilities would prevent us taking them to enjoy it always a bug bear when a place is only a few years old and therefore could have chosen to be accessible to everyone. Otherwise, just wonderful.
