Open since 1933, this bar offers live music & dancing plus a separate tap room for sports-watching.
"Easily the most well-known and iconic bar in Key West, Sloppy Joe’s has been around since 1933 and was a favorite of Ernest Hemingway. Stop in for conch fritters served with key lime mustard, frozen Rum Runners (and other tropical beverages), and the sounds of live music from local and visiting bands playing nearly all day, every day until closing." - Amber Love Bond
"A popular haunt on Duval Street with live music, ice-cold drinks, and delicious conch fritters." - Amber Love Bond
"This is the most famous, crowded, and historic bar in Key West. And yes, it’s worth stopping in for a frozen rum runner. Sloppy Joe’s is such an institution because Hemingway himself spent many years here drinking way too much and probably getting into a lot of fights. Today, it’s a little tamer, undeniably touristy, but still fun if you don’t mind big, loud bars. There are usually live bands playing cover songs that are easy to scream along to (a man named Gerd Rube was crushing it during our last visit). But if you want to avoid the more rambunctious Duval Street crowds, go around lunch (or check the bar’s live webcam before you go). Also, if you happen to be visiting around July 18, please come here for the annual Hemmingway look-alike contest. " - ryan pfeffer

"Since 1933 — when it conveniently opened on the exact day Prohibition was repealed — Sloppy Joe’s has been a Key West institution. Chow down on the combo of ground beef, onions, peppers, and spices known as The Original Sloppy Joe Sandwich while you enjoy live music, dancing, and people-watching." - Travel + Leisure Editors
