"Inside the Mobil gas station, this points to the filling station burger trend. Available in four configurations, it’s a smash burger made with good beef and smashed a little less than most, making it tolerably moist. And sitting at a picnic table in view of the gas pumps is a unique experience in New York burgerdom. Fries are good, too, and we love the red-checkered box. Did you know: This is the only operational gas station in Manhattan below 14th Street." - Robert Sietsema
"Converting into the Charlie Cale’s Back on Her BLSHT Rest Stop (a mouthful) roadside pop-up tied to Peacock’s acclaimed series Poker Face on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10. The pop-up will offer two burgers — one meat and one vegetarian — free to the public (limit one per person). The vintage Plymouth Barracuda car that the show’s protagonist Charlie Cale (played by the very-New York actor Natasha Lyonne) is associated with will be on site; the show's second season premieres on Thursday, May 8. Pop-up hours are 2 to 8 p.m. on May 9 and noon to 8 p.m. on May 10." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Smashburgers for $5.50 from a tiny West Village gas station—what’s not to love? Add a bag of international potato chips and eat at the picnic table outside." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah
"It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s a smashburger spot inside of a gas station in the West Village. Smacking Burger operates out of a supply closet-sized kitchen in a Mobil, and it’s worth noting that their classic smash is the cheapest one on this list. It’s fairly simple—onion, american cheese, sweet pickles, ketchup, and mustard on a potato roll, but if you’re willing to spend $9.99, you can get a double patty, and pink special sauce. Smacking Burger is open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, and there’s a picnic table outside where you can eat in case it’s 12:30am and you need beef right now." - willa moore, neha talreja, will hartman, bryan kim
"Outside of New York, there are places where people who drive can go to fill their cars with a substance called gasoline, which the cars need to run. The gas station in the West Village is the only one in Lower Manhattan, and now, it’s host to Smacking Burger. Single smashburgers start at $5.50. They also have horsey sauce. We visited Smacking Burger and added it to The Hit List." - will hartman
