Our 17 Rules For Road Tripping | Bon Appétit

"After the eight-hour journey from New York City to Richmond, Virginia, all I want is a burger and a beer. Thankfully, I-64’sBoulevard Burger & Brewhas both (and available for online order ahead of time!). The pitch-perfect smash burger is an ode to Kelly’s, the local burger chain that used to sit here. And with the original 1950s drive-in style building and red-and-white-checked paper under the fries, it doesn’t get more classic American than this.—Bryan Fountain, senior designer" - ByThe Bon Appétit Staff

Google
We found this place when trying to find something new in Richmond on a trip. Man, am I glad we did! The service was excellent. The cashier recommended the Mac Smash and explained that each patty was 1/4lb. He also recommends the fries (they come with a Cajun seasoning on them). After we ordered we were able to easily find a seat in the restaurant. When the food came, WOW! The burger was smashed to perfection and somehow it was thin and crispy, yet juicy. The fries were seasoned to perfection with a subtle kick but not too spicy. We all ate every last piece of food that we ordered. We were stuffed. Absolutely check this place out. Delicious food, amazing service and plenty of seating.

The best smash burger I've ever eaten! Wow! I had the OG Smash and my wife had the Smash Chopped Cheese. My kids ordered the Mac Smash and Plain Jane Smash. We shared some Smash fries and washed it all down with Smash RVA Baja Limeade and complimentary water. The gentleman who took our order was friendly, informative and helpful during our first visit. Additionally, we were glad that the bathrooms were clean and fully stocked with toiletries. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be sure to return with the rest of our family!

Google
Found this place when searching for vegetarian options near me. Their vegetarian burger and fries are so delicious. They have an option to get a single or double patty. I chose double. They also have spicy limeade that they make in house and it’s really refreshing! Chill environment and good service.

Having had burgers from Cobra, Station 2, Beauvine, Eazzy, Bach, etc, Smashed RVA has a combination of all the right ingredients--both culinary and aesthetic--to fortify themselves as a staple in Richmond. The atmosphere is relaxed with a minimalist approach to decorations and downtempo tracks like MF Doom in the background. They have a large parking lot too; most of it is on a slope so fair warning for handicap. The gentleman behind the counter provided a travel guide level understanding of the menu to assist a first timer. Their patties are 4 oz of Seven Hills beef, they have two main, in-house sauces that are both fire, and the fries come standard with a cajun/malt vinegar coating, but they openly provide a salt only option(which I chose). I ordered their double patty OG Smash option(you can get 1, 2, or 3 patties)and I think it was the first burger I've ever had to rip the meat from the sides and dip it in the sauces before I actually picked it up to eat it, so hats off for a unique experience! The fries are really good with the sauces as well. My only critic would be to reduce the amount of grease on the outside of the bun, and try to keep it all between them(I padded mine down with a napkin). I look forward to the next opportunity I have to enjoy this place because it was a truly awesome experience all around!

Google
The place had a lot of hype and it lived up to it. 😋😋😋 The plain Jane Burger with two patties was perfection. And the fries were really good too. Very friendly and fast service. Beautiful day to sit on the patio and see the city in the distance. Will definitely be going back.

Google
Well I have to these were some of the best burgers I've ever eaten. The staff were very nice and helpful. The outside seating and inside was nicely laid out, but it was the burgers and homemade fries thst made this a special place. My son, grandson and myself loved the food. We will be back and we hope everyone enjoys the food as much as we did.

Google
My wife and I recently visited this spot, and it was a fantastic experience! While I love burgers, I’ve discovered that I have a particular fondness for smash burgers (thin burgers). My wife, who prefers traditional burgers, mentioned that although it wasn’t her favorite, the flavors and seasoning were outstanding. So, if you’re a fan of smash burgers, you’ll really enjoy this place. We came at the perfect time on the right day and were served by the owner. He asked if it was our first visit, and when we confirmed, he kindly explained the entire menu, including their signature dishes. I loved it and will definitely be back. They offer outdoor seating, plenty of space, and ample parking. My favorite part was definitely the fries! 🍟 🍶Want to know more about what I’m up to? Google
We were looking for a place to eat and stumbled across this place. It was excellent! The burgers had crispy edges and were super flavorful. We had a side order of fries. You could order them as they came with Cajun seasoning, or you could request just salt. The sauces that came with our order were really good - I really enjoyed whatever the pink sauce was! One member of our party is a vegetarian and was able to order a beyond burger, and she really enjoyed it. The environment was great, and the employees were very friendly. We also liked that it had a dedicated parking lot so we didn't have to fight for street parking. I would definitely come here again!

Yelp
Just ordered delivery from this place for the first time and it was excellent! So well done and such fun menu items. Definitely will be ordering again.

Yelp
Food, service and vibe all good for a hamburger place. It's rare for me to want burger and fries but today was one of those days. Smashed hit the mark. Warning definitely not the place to go for low calorie or low cholesterol. I ordered the BBQ Bacon smashed and smoothed fries. It arrived fairly quickly. The fries arrive truly smoothed with cheese sauce and burger with pickles. Tasted great. Many Fries may have been over fried with lots of oil where the whole fry is crispy vs soft potato on the inside. Smashed burger was good but was light on bbq sauce. Overall good experience

Yelp
Thursday 8/14/25 12:54pm Add a taste for a burger called smashed RVA asked a couple questions decided to order the plain. Jane smashed with a double patty. Paid for it over the phone picked it up. Arrived home 10 minutes later. Ready to crush! Smh very disappointed. This was my second time here. The first time I ate in house and I wasn't that impressed but it was was OK so I thought I'd give it another try. This time, you know if you know that the damn restaurant business is fucking competitive do better The first thing I noticed was the bun was extremely greasy, the top of the bun. It hardly had any lettuce on it, and the bread was soggy. Unbelievable. I really wanted to be excited about this, but the excitement is gone.. If you know that the restaurant business is competitive, do better. My current pictures are from the blue and white paper plate.

Yelp
My wife and I visited Richmond to attend a pro wrestling show on 6/13/25 and wanted to find some here to eat beforehand. We don't come to RVA a whole lot and we didn't want the same thing we would get at home. My wife looked around online and found Smashed RVA. The menu (more on that down below) online looked promising especially since we both have certain dietary restrictions, which would suit us here, we came on. Walking in the place felt homey, more like visiting a friend's house than anything. The woman behind the counter (I didn't remember any names unfortunately) who took our order was very welcoming and answered every question we asked. She even complimented the shirt I was wearing and we spoke briefly about it. Once she left after we got our order the gentlemen who replaced her was all smiles when I highly complemented the food. Speaking of... My wife and I ordered the following: I got what's called a double Plain Jane smash burger with mayo and Mac sauce, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and no cheese My wife got a loaded fries with their special Smash sauce, pickles, Cajun and vinegar seasoned fries with beyond chopped meat and cheese sauce My burger was without a doubt the best dine out burger I've ever had. Hands down. The bun even was baked fresh. According the workers they came fresh from a bakery in the area called Flower Garden. I knew immediately before I tasted it it was baked fresh. The burgers were fresh (not frozen) and seasoned beautifully. For 13 dollars, the quality matched the quantity. Their take on mac sauce was better than the originals. I was blown away and told them so too. My wife's loaded fries were great too. And not to mention big enough to feed both of us because she couldn't finish them all. Their smash sauce is a mustard based deal which was very tangy and tasty. They definitely had a kick due to the Cajun and vinegar. Just a little much for my wife's taste but I loved it. She said she'll just get them without the spice next time. Before we left, I got me a Mac smash burger with vegan cheese, pickles, Mac sauce, lettuce, and BBQ sauce which I took home. Upon arriving there I ate it and loved it just the same if not more as the first. I definitely recommend this place. They also have chopped cheese sandwiches on top of the smash burgers which you can get plant based in meat and cheese for those who seek that. Cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
The tastiest smash burger ever and the kindest staff. My friends and I have a quarterly date night here. Obsessed with the flavors and it's clear that the staff puts a lot of effort in seasoning. I've never had anything dry or overcooked which is a common issue with smash burgers, not here though!
google avatar

Denese W.

Yelp
Very spacious and inviting space. The cashier was super nice and patient. The food was pretty good. I got the beyond plant based burger with Cajun fries. The burger was a tad bit salty. The food is definitely made to order was piping hot when it came out. Our wait was not long at all. We also got a chopped cheese and it was skimpy for lack of a better word. I forgot to take pictures of the food . We paid $40 for the double plant based burger, an order of fries, skinny chopped cheese and 2 bottled drinks. Oh and by the way they only sell bottled or canned drinks and beer.

Yelp
Im a burger fanatic. A good burger can go in any plans on any day for me. This place has GREAT burgers! Juicy, that perfect blend of smashed crispiness and juiciness, and the creative specialty burgers are worth a trip every time one is released. And if you're particularly greedy like me lol, you can get fries topped with all the same toppings the burger has! If you're in Richmond you better go get a burger or three or your selling yourself short! If you're not in Richmond it's worth the trip just find something else to do for the rest of the day lol

Joanne R.

Yelp
Food was good and service was great!! Place was very clean too great location for me as well .
google avatar

Eric A.

Yelp
I got the Plain Jane double and cajun fries and bought a jar of their homemade "Smashed" sauce. The burger was outstanding and hot with great flavor. The bun was outstanding as well and was told the buns are supplied by a local bakery The Flour Garden. My wife stole the cajun fries from me they were so good. The staff could not have been nicer and the order was ready quickly. I will definitely return to get "smashed"!
google avatar

Racquel H. D.

Yelp
What a great burger spot easy to get to and bright inside. We were greeted by the staff immediately. He took the time to tell us about each burger and the difference between them all. The burgers were so well seasoned you didn't need anything but the bun. I do wish the burger bun was a little more defined. All in all this is a great spot to get a great smash burger that is prepared well and tastes delicious.

Yelp
Was really hyped to try this place after i've seen all the raving reviews. The place is pretty spacious, lots of seating available. My boyfriend and I ordered the plain jane smash, mac smash, and some fries. Not sure why but it took a bit of time to come out. Unfortunately, I didn't really love either burger. The fries and burgers were both average in my opinion. I think I ordered cajun fries and it tasted like they just threw old bay on it. I was really disappointed because I've heard such good things about this place. I think RVA has some amazing burger spots which set the bar pretty high (beauvine & jack brown). Overall, my experience was just okay. I don't think i'd be back but definitely would recommend to give it a try for yourself!
google avatar

Manny M.

Yelp
Environment was friendly and very inviting. Staff was friendly and attentive. First time visitor with the family, overall the meal was good but we the burger was over salted to our tasting. (note: my family and I don't ever agree on salt tasting but all felt it was over salted). The Baja Limeade was - loved it. We made a special deviation to check this place out and believe we will give it another try when we're back in that area.

Yelp
I was soooo excited to come try the smash burgers at Smashed RVA... the pictures and reviews absolutely seemed amazing! But... and it's a big big but... I cannot lie. The patties are way way way too salty! If the patties weren't salted so heavily, it would be one of the best burgers I've had... it almost makes me want to drop it to a 3 star review... But I love everything about this place from decoration, ambiance, the bun, shredded lettuce, and fries. The staff are friendly and helpful and everything else is perfect. I really do hope that it was just a one off... that there was an accident w the salt shaker.
google avatar

Myan L.

Yelp
I'm not really a burger person but I did enjoy the bbq burger here! (Looks kinda crazy in my pic but i promise it was awesome) It was perfect, not too salty and not too sweet from the bbq. The patty was even a bit crispy on the outside and held juicy flavour on the inside! If i do crave a burger i usually go to beauvine. This place was a pleasant surprised and had amazing service! They also had the bottled root beer by barqs as a choice which i don't see too often. I love the theme and the little merch they sell too! The yellow designs make it such a nice atmosphere! I would definitely go again even if it was just to pick up food!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
This was good. We had somewhat of a Phili. Hease steak. The restraint was comfortable with nice seats. The service was good and quick.
google avatar

Gregory F.

Yelp
How could you not love this place?! The location is SO convenient to my apartment, which makes it my guilty pleasure whenever I am driving home and craving a bite. The Mac Smash is just as scrumptious as it looks - the patty is just the right amount of char and whatever the heck is in that Mac Sauce is downright addicting. Worth every penny - and so quick to be ready when you order. Everytime I've eaten here, I've taken to go - but the inside is so modern and sleek-looking... like a cooler steak and shake. One of the few places in Richmond I have consistently gone to thus far as a new resident and love it everytime.
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
Great burger spot! Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Plenty of menu items to choose from and a solid variety of drinks in the cooler. The burgers do take some time to be made but they are absolutely worth it. Although it appears lots of people order for pick-up. Parking wasn't too bad, restrooms were clean, and dining room tables were well spaced out. Would love to come back here again!
google avatar

Yelp
My family and I LOVED this place after our rafting trip. My son even said it's the best burger he's ever had. We got a kids burger, Mac Smash, Bacon Chopped Cheese, Bacon Smash, and regular fries and Cajun fries. Everything was delicious, service was great, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kathleen D.

Yelp
Ever since their pop-up days, Smashed has been a delightful dining experience. Their brick-and-mortar location follows suit. I've had several of their offerings, but the chopped cheese and the Mac Smash with a single patty (add bacon) are my favorites. Their fries are tasty too, with just a slight kick to them. They pair well with their ranch sauce. Service has been consistently friendly and prompt as well. Their new space is a great size, clean, and matches their brand well. I don't have even the slightest of a critique -- they are fantastic all around and serve up some of the best burgers in Richmond for sure.
google avatar

Latoya J.

Yelp
Food tasted good- made fresh to order. A smash burger is thin- if u really wanna taste the meat- get 2 patties but the circumference is big- so you could easily split it with someone. The loaded fries were like a burger without a bun. The homemade pickles are good! Service great. They are helpful and patient. The vibe is cool and laid back. Good 90's hip hop music. Revolving door- so that's nice too. If you in the area- give them a try. Prices are reasonable for the Richmond area. They have a vegan burger option- my friend said it was very good. Everyone n the party enjoyed their food.
google avatar

Kalila W.

Yelp
Wonderful smashburger. Crispy edges, patty seasoned well. I got the house sauce on the side cuz I dont like most of the mayo based burger sauces but ended up using it- it was kind of mustard-forward. Fries were good! Annnd the Baja Limeade was right up my alley with the jalapeño flavor addition. 5 stars all the way.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
I got the bacon smash without cheese for take out and I was very impressed and satisfied with this burger! The smashed patty style is very flavorful. Hit the spot for sure good value for the price

Robert F.

Yelp
The smashed burger is delicious. I got a double patty and only wish I had gotten a triple. Hope to make it back as it was a very good burger.
google avatar

Brandon E.

Yelp
The wife and I heard a lot of good things about this place and finally decided to give it go, and it did not disappoint! Good size, clean building, friendly service and a simple menu. Ordered a big burger with crispy bacon, cheese, fresh LTO, 2 well seasoned smash patties and sauce, Freaking delicious!! Hot seasoned Cajun fries with Malt vinegar as your partner in crime too. Jesus!! I just made myself hungry, I gotta go! Time for HULK to SMASH!!!
google avatar

Ry L.

Yelp
Updating my review... I originally docked a star due to the price, but I'd rather spend my money here at a local business than somewhere like Five Guys whose prices vary based on the neighborhood (you can guess which types of neighborhoods get the higher prices). And I can't say it's not worth the price because my goodness, the burgers and fries are so damn good. Besides, the owner Michael is incredibly kind and helpful, and you can tell he really cares about his business. I watched him promptly wipe down the table every time people finished dining and left while manning the register and serving the orders when ready.
google avatar

Anthony F.

Yelp
Awesome Smashed Burgers!!! As good as when they popped up at different breweries across town. Nice location with a good amount of tables and a large counter area with seating. Freshly renovated space so everything is bright clean and new. Staff was super friendly and noticed that they cleaned tables immediately upon seeing a customer leave. I'm wondering if there's plans to expand the menu or eventually offer different fries. I like the Cajun fries but I would prefer traditional fries instead. I didn't mind when consuming them at a brewery as I was able to wash them down with a cold beer. I did notice that there was an empty refrigerator with a sign stating "Beer will be available soon". One critique to the actual smashed burger. I feel they may be over salted but it might be me as I often avoid salty foods but these burgers are still awesome. I believe they will do well here as there's a good size parking lot as well.
google avatar

Nikki J.

Yelp
Delicious! This was my first time at the brick and mortar. It's super spacious both inside and out. Ordering was easy. I got a bacon smash with a side of fries. Took about 5-10 minutes to be ready, so it was nice & hot and really good. Also, everything was seasoned really well!

Kevin K.

Yelp
Way better than I thought the front person was wonderful can not wait to comeback very good vibe
google avatar

Jahmelia B.

Yelp
Smashed RVA specializes in smash style burgers and fries! They have vegetarian options and kids sized burgers for the littles!! I ordered the Mac which is a play on a Big Mac and an order of seasoned malt vinegar fries. The burger comes in different sizes I got a double patty and it was seasoned really well. The fries are a large shareable portion and were on the salty side. Next time around I would definitely 86 the Cajun salt. The unexpected star of my meal were the pickles!! The pickles have a subtle buttery sweetness to them that is addictive!! I liked them so much that I bought a pickle jar to go. Overall I enjoyed most of my meal, the vibe was chill and the employees were really friendly!!

Yelp
Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Upon walking in I noticed that it didn't smell like food at all. It was a very pleasant scent. I actually appreciated that. I hate leaving restaurants smelling like the food. Inside was very clean I loved the decor. I loved the music that was playing. 90s hip hop along the lines of native tongue artists. Server was very polite. Food- the burger had a nice flavor to it. Bun was grilled but still soft. The Cajun fries really hit the spot. Will definitely visit again.
google avatar

Bobbi H.

Yelp
We've had Smash burgers at the different breweries before and are really excited to see them take the leap to a stand alone spot You order at the front counter and then find a seat. Once your order is ready, they call your name and text you. They have 2 coolers for drinks - sodas and vitamin water etc. You can get 1, 2 , or 3 Patty's when you order your burger. They also offer beyond burgers if you don't eat meat. Clean bright interior, awesome friendly service, lot of seating. Plenty of parking available in their private lot Burgers are a little too salty for my personal taste, still tasty though! What we ate: OG Smash - seven hills patty, American cheese, onions and Smash sauce Mac Smash - seven hills patty, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, Mac sauce Fries- Cajun and malt vinegar seasoned My rating rationale +1 Service +.5 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value

Lisa G.

Yelp
This is a really good burger. I got the single bacon and an order of fries, $18. The fries were a bit over salted, but good. Service was friendly and the food came out quickly packaged to go whether you're dining in or not.
google avatar

Hiike R.

Yelp
It is loud inside, BUT.. it is Saturday afternoon and the music is banging! Too chilly and wet for the patio today. There is bar seating that I missed because there is no TV. There was constant to go orders. Great twist on the all American burger... they smash it down to be very thin giving it a nice crisp. If you like your burger to be meaty- get the double or triple patty. This is near the College Campus, so students are coming and going and the music is geared to them. I am an old lady- so I had to hit and quit it quick! LOL. I got in- ate- and got out satisfied. Oh, the service is excellent!!!
google avatar

S. S.

Yelp
Great burgers. Great service. Not sure if you can get plain french fries but the seasoning is too spicey for me.
google avatar

Clyde E.

Yelp
I'm still on the fence with this place. Not necessarily anything to do with them either. I think I'm just not a huge fan of the "Smashed" burger. I don't see the hype of it. To me you're squishing the juice right out of them and I was raised "don't press them burgers down". I tried this establishment 3 times now, two diners ins and one to go now. I want to give it one more go, so I can try the French Onion Burger. I heard it was fantastic, but my bar will be low until it touches my lips. The staff is friendly. I like the decor in the restaurant. Fountain drinks would be a nice addition. The burgers are just too dry for me. Like my last burger pieces actually crumbled off the edges. Not my jam. Give me a juicy, well seasoned, patty anytime. Anyway, I do suggest you check by them out for yourself. Their fries are excellent! #stoptheburgerabuse lol
google avatar

Wael D.

Yelp
Came here randomly for lunch one day last week and fell in love with the burgers here. I ended up taking my friend who was visiting from Canada here straight from the airport and he loved it as well. The plain Jane and the bbq smash burgers are the only two I've tried so far and they are both great. I think I prefer the plain Jane though. The loaded fries were also very good. The guy working the counter/register was also very nice and helpful as far as recommendations for what to order.
google avatar

Mackenzie C.

Yelp
Seriously some of the best food in RVA. The owner is always super friendly and happy to explain the menu and offer advice on what to order. The place is super clean and you can tell they take pride in how the storefront looks. Plenty of seating and cool artwork to look at. Food is so delicious and fresh. Best burgers and fries! It is a little pricey, but if you want a quality smash burger with quality service, it's worth it!
google avatar

Denise M.

Yelp
Great experience. The burger was seasoned to perfection. Smashed nicely. Friendly server. Great puddings too.
google avatar

Kim G.

Yelp
This is a REALLY good burger! Stopped in with a friend heading home from a road trip and found Smashed RVA on Yelp. It was a bit of a roundabout drive off the exit but it was worth it! The burger itself was cooked well and the cheese was perfectly ooey-gooey melty (semi-orgasmic eye roll). And I don't know if it's a regular thing, but B-Nay's Sweets was set up there with homemade cinnamon rolls and cookies. I got a melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon roll that had a perfectly balanced sweet and sour lemon-blueberry topping. Unfortunately, I was so full from the burger that I could only try a single bite, but I'm sure the rest will be just as good (or even better) warmed up when I get home. :)
google avatar

Kyle G.

Yelp
Stopped in at SmashedRVA this morning to give it a try. All in all its is a good burger but I would not give it the top spot. Cobra keeps that title for the moment. Prices were on par with what I expected and service was friendly and prompt. I got the OG Smash and I'm unsure if it's just that particular menu item but it was incredibly salty, like lips burn salty. The burger itself was huge which is nice because I'm full which was the goal. My partners patty melt wasn't as salty and actually pretty good, the jalapeños were a nice touch. Their fries were not something I'd order again though as they were doused in some kind of seasoning making them incredibly salty which is disappointing given the rate they're charged at. I plan to visit again and see if it was a fluke and get the Mac Smash but that'll have to wait.
google avatar

Rafael M.

Yelp
First time getting SMASHED RVA from the brick and mortar. Solid 8/10, patty was paper thin at the sides. I guess I'll need to order more of the MAC sauce next time.
google avatar

Meri A.

Yelp
Nice burgers! Smashed extra thin, I went for the double stack with Mac sauce- was not disappointed. Also got the fries, which was a huge portion even for sharing. Quick and friendly service and a nice open dining space.

Yelp
First stop on our trip to Richmond! Really enjoyed this burger, it definitely hit the soot!. Got there about 1:40, so we were the only guests. Staff welcomed us right in, we're friendly and quick to answer any questions. Ordering is done at the counter and they bring the food out to your table. The interior is pretty industrial and minimal, but all you need to eat a tasty burger! The food was quick, again, probably because we were the only ones there, but I suppose smash burgers don't take long to cook. Came out quick, with a generous portion of fries, enough for 2 people split. The burger was full of flavor, and their smash sauce is delicious! You can get any of their burgers with 1 patty, 2 patties or 3, just depends how hungry you are. Pricing is a little high, but I'd still recommend, the amount of food we got for the price was a good value. I'd certainly go back if I'm ever in the area again!
google avatar

Manny N.

Yelp
Got the OG Smashed burger with a double patty. It was a little salty but had lots of beef flavor. This is the spot for me if I want to satisfy a burger craving. Fries were good but not great. The area isn't in the best location - there's really nothing else around. Doesn't really matter much though because I was there for the burger and it did not disappoint.

Damon J.

Yelp
The burgers were delicious. The patties were huge and seasoned to perfection. Great views of downtown RVA. Definitely recommend if in the area.

David H.

Yelp
The food is amazing. The service is friendly. The ambiance is laid-back. This review is simple and straightforward. I don't have anything to add to meet the character minimum.

Yelp
YUMMMM! My partner and I were excited for Smashed RVA to open a brick and mortar location and they didn't disappoint. Below is a breakdown of my thoughts. -each patty size is about 4.5 ounces which is just above 1/4 lb - this size is perfect for me because 2 patty's is plenty filling; there's another burger spot (still amazing) where the patty's are under 4oz each and I always leave wanting just a little more, but not at Smashed RVA -the fries were hot, crispy and seasoned perfectly - they do appear to be frozen fries (nothing wrong with that); I prefer fresh cut fries but these were still amazing -their sodas are sold by the bottle, again nothing wrong with it but my partner noted that he prefers a fountain station (free refills) -I got the OG setup and added pickles - it was a great balance - not too many toppings so it wasn't too messy, but still enough to add flavor and dynamic -my partner noted that the burger "held together" well, not too messy or falling apart -staff was excellent - patiently answered my questions and checked on us while eating to see if we needed anything This place is the perfect addition to the Northside area! It's a tough competition in the burger game but I'd say Smashed RVA is in my top 3 for Richmond burger spots! I won't name the other two or rank them but they all serve smash style ;)

Yelp
I went to the Smashed RVA pop ups a few times with Ruben. They make a really good burger, but I didn't feel like it was anything to write home about. Granted, I like a lot of crap on my burgers, and Smashed is more straightforward goodness. Fast forward to the opening of their brick and mortar location, I got to explore their expanded menu, which is still short and sweet. The bbq bacon burger was perfection. It had more crispy around the edges than before and a bbq sauce that wasn't too sweet or messy. I'm an extra pickles person, and I should have ordered it that way. Those were some good pickles. The burger was a good sizel, and the bacon reminded me of the way my mama makes it, so there's that. The fries were also SUPER yummy and fresh. Malt vinegar is available. They sell bottles sodas and drinks, but also have a free water station for their customers. I think this is awesome. I'm really happy for this business. The owner seems like a great guy, and my husband is such a big supporter that Mike knows him by name. Maybe next time he'll know me by name too.

Yelp
I visited Smashed RVA at their new brick and mortar location and it's nice! Very spacious with a cool patio. I ordered the OG Smash double patty a side of Cajun fries. The seasoning on their patties is plentiful! As well as the fries. I crushed to the tunes of a dope playlist. Super good! Pull up and get smashed y'all!
