The 6 Best Thai Restaurants In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Is Smile Cafe going to make your personal best restaurants list? Probably not. But it’s a quintessential neighborhood Thai spot, perfect for a noodle-packed weeknight dinner or spicy takeout order for one. Portions are plentiful, flavors are balanced, and if you’re an especially picky eater (or stuck dining with one), you can even create your own entree. Our order at the Rittenhouse BYOB always includes the juicy papaya salad with shrimp, pineapple fried rice, and the panang curry, packed with crisp vegetables. There are also a few can’t-miss house specials—the charcoal beef is smoky, sweet, and tender—so just gather your friends and pick one item from every section of the menu for the best experience." - alison kessler, candis mclean

Smile Cafe Thai Cuisine Philadelphia Review - Rittenhouse - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Smile Cafe is your quintessential neighborhood Thai spot, perfect for a noodle-packed weeknight dinner or take-out order of curry for one. Portions are plentiful at this Rittenhouse BYOB, and the sweet, spicy, and salty flavors are usually nice and balanced. And, if you’re an especially picky eater (or stuck dining with one), you can even create your own entree. Is Smile Cafe going to make your personal top 10 restaurant list? Probably not. But we’ve never encountered a bad dish, and it’s an easy choice for a last-minute dinner in the area. Our order always includes the juicy papaya salad with shrimp, pineapple fried rice, and the panang curry packed with crisp vegetables. There are a few house specials not to be missed—the charcoal beef in particular is smoky and tender. Or you can just gather some friends and pick one item from every section of the menu." - Alison B. Yummy!!! Attached are the pictures of our food & our bill (for price reference). The Eggs Benedict was amazing. Perfectly poached eggs & the hashbrowns were buttery/crispy. The pancakes are THICK and fluffy. Though thick, they weren’t dry; they had good flavor. We also got two eggs over-easy, which were cooked properly. I got turkey bacon & we got regular bacon, both of which were crisp! Good portion size of food! The atmosphere was eh.. very crowded & small so you are on top of everyone. It’s very loud in there. There is only 1 bathroom, but it was clean. The waitress was attentive and we had no complaints!

This is one of the best breakfast/lunch spots around! We've been here several times and have never had anything less than a perfect experience. Everyone is so friendly and helpful! The coffee and herbal teas are wonderful, and the food is amazing! There's always a special worth checking out. Definitely get the perogies!!

I love Smile Café! The food is always delicious and fresh. The restaurant is on the smaller side so it can get crowded, but I feel very relaxed in there, I’m never rushed. The service is always excellent as well. Great for families, solo meals, or friend groups!

The food here is one of a kind and delicious! It is so fresh and creative. You have lots of healthy as well as regular options available so there is something for all needs and tastes. Their homemade lemonade is the best. The servers are helpful , attentive and kind. Highly recommend!

Google
Great meal! I had the Sujuk a Mediterranean breakfast with beef sausage and eggs. I would highly recommend the fried eggplant and house bread. Staff was super friendly and although it was crowded they got people through relatively quickly.

Very nice brand new breakfast and lunch shop. We tried this today and the selection is varied and excellent. Our waitress Gabby was very helpful explaining what some of the Turkish items were. She also told us about the homemade strawberry 🍓 preserves which were delicious. The omelets are large and filled with toppings. I had the western omelet and it was excellent. The hash browns are crispy on the outside and thin so not much non browned potato. The orange 🍊 juice is fresh squeezed. We will definitely be regulars at this location. The decor is nice and inviting. The dining area is renovated and all new. Very nice! They have free WiFi. 2022: They had rose 🌹 marmalade today and it was delicious. 😋 They also have no added sugar strawberry preserves. I am managing my A1C and this helps. 2023: I bring my own sugar free preserves for the toast. New owner now with a larger menu. Will need to continue to try all the new options. 😀 2024: Erin was an awesome 😎 waitress. Love all the new options on the menu and the cozy atmosphere. Love the crispy Bacon 🥓 😋! 2025: Love this place. Great breakfast options. Great wait staff. Great cook. 💓💯

Google
This place is a hidden gem!!! We stumbled upon it today on our way to Saylorsburg. Delicious food, awesome staff, super reasonable prices and such a friendly atmosphere. It’s definitely a new favorite spot for us! Pictured here: the tomato, avocado and cheese egg sandwich with fried green tomatoes!!! And the pancake from the children’s menu. Check this place out!! Grateful to have found it.

Yelp
Stopped in for Breakfast. This is a small location with about 11 tables. Open for Breakfast and Lunch, closed Monday/Tuesday Ordered Belgium Waffle which can be ordered with a selection of fruit and Powdered Sugar available. The Belgium Waffle had a nice GBD (Golden Brown Delicious) however was a bit heavy not light and fluffy. Egg sandwich served on your choice of toast (sadly no sourdough bread). Served with your choice of hash browns or home fries. I selected the home fries which was crispy through and lots of butter flavor. The egg sandwich was pretty basic flavoring - a fried egg with white American cheese.

Yelp
Seeking breakfast, my daughter selected this choice. We decided to give it a try. This restaurant is very small and busy. Parking was available. We opened the door and stood behind some other patrons waiting to be able to put our names on the wait list. The place was packed. The sweet and very kind waitress working that day was wearing several hats. She served food and also was acting as the hostess. My husband put our names on the list and we sat on the benches outside and waited to be seated about a half an hour. We were eventually seated next to the register by front door. Minus people watching us as they were waiting for their tables and a few bottoms facing us, we did get breakfast. Our options were very good. The attentive waitress was fantastic and made each guest feel very welcome with her down to earth conversation and greeting each time she came to our table. Yelp
Egg white vegetable omelet with home fries was very good. Home fries were nicely browned the way I like. Forgot to take pic prob because very hungry by time I got there. Coffee was pretty good. Homemade lemon meringue pie was so very good. Snapped a photo of pie on a heart shaped plate. Burak provided excellent service.

Yelp
This breakfast was one of the best breakfasts we've ever had!! So unbelievably fresh and delicious. The staff is so kind and nice. Definitely lives up to the "Smile" name. We're not from the area but this breakfast spot will make us want to visit again. VERY gluten free friendly also. The pancakes you'd never guess were GF. Very cute interior also.

Yelp
Perfect brunch spot! Had the crème brûlée French toast and coffee. Everything was delicious and the service was great!

Christine L.

Yelp
They had breakfast specials, I had the berry French toast with cream. Was very good. The place is small but service was quick and everyone was very friendly. Even wait staff that weren't at our table had friendly banter. Also got Girl Scout cookies, score!

Harleigh W.

Yelp
The food? Immaculate. The service? Extraordinary? The ambiance? Perfect! My husband and I couldn't think of a better breakfast for our 1 year anniversary! The pierogis were crisp and flavorful, reminds me of the ones I got in a polish bakery in Illinois! And the French toast was so sweet and unique and FILLING! I would love to eat here every day!

Yelp
Nice find on William Penn Highway. Love a breakfast place that has daily specials and some unique offerings. Menu has a middle eastern flair with regular staples. Lovely young couple that are very service oriented and pleasant. I had the quiche special and my wife had the shukusa. Both were excellent. Generous serving but not over the top. Definitely a keeper!
google avatar

Yelp
The eight of us experienced what we all agreed was a great breakfast today. Everyone ordered a full breakfast ranging from eggs benedict to crepes. The service, food, and atmosphere were outstanding. I only regret that I forgot to find out the waitress's name she was fantastic!

Yelp
Loved this place, beautiful inside with a peaceful atmosphere, and a good parking lot. The poached eggs with avocado, chicken sausages and hash browns were amazing. The Mediterranean Omelette, very tasty, healthy and yummy!!! Get your cappuccino, great coffee. I recommend this place 100%.
google avatar

Yelp
Smile is the perfect name for this charming quaint cafe! Service was excellent and the food out of this world! An amazing mix of Turkish tradition and America favorites! I could live on the Turkish coffee and bread - it's delish! The omelets were full and cooked perfectly. The bacon was thick yet had the perfect bite to it! And my non potato loving husband who always pushes them to the side ate all of his hash browns because they were exactly the way he likes them! I can't wait to return for lunch! New favorite breakfast in town!

Yelp
Super cute place! Lovely waitress! Started with 2 fresh squeezed orange juices. My hubby had the sausage gravy which he really enjoyed. I had 2 eggs over easy with bacon and a short stack of French toast. All of it was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast and/or lunch.

Atanu B.

Yelp
Very welcoming and great service. Simple and good food that tasted fresh. Home like atmosphere!

Susan M.

Yelp
I haven't been to the Smile cafe in a looong time. Then I went in earlier this week and tried the corn beef hash breakfast and the grits. Two of my favorite things that hardly anyone makes ...well it was the best corn beef hash I've ever had in the whole world. And the coffee is great there too ...needless to say I've been back two more times for the corn beef hash. ...only recommendation. Put the corn beef hash with the eggs and toast as you do on the menu but it also needs to read as a side dish. When I get it to go. Taking eggs and toast after 25 min not very good but the corn beef hash alone is fantastic. If I'm eating in then fine

Yelp
Excellent food. Wonderful people. Great prices... it is small so be prepared for a wait. We had a group of 7 so we made reservations.
google avatar

Yelp
I love the Turkish meats influence! Get this omelette! Obviously add more meat and score a side of bacon too!
google avatar

Maria R.

Yelp
Cute breakfast spot! Small and cozy. Waiter was super busy if felt bad he had to seat, wait tables, and bus but still provided such great service. Food was delish.
google avatar

Jody M.

Yelp
Great little shop in an unassuming spot. We had s wait a bit to get seated but the food was really good. They have some Turkish dishes there including Soujouk eggs The coffee comes on a cute little heart shaped tray with a small cookie. The service was a bit slow.

Kitty V.

Yelp
Went for breakfast with a friend and had a lovely time. Food was terrific, portions were definitely sufficient and priced well. Service was lovely. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sally C.

Yelp
Really good. I went there with four friends. We all loved our meal. Everything is prepared immediately after you order and arrives piping hot. The vegetable quesadillas are wonderful.

Charles P.

Yelp
Awesome beef sausage (sujuk), great breakfast w Turkish flair. I can't wait to try the gyro.
google avatar

Alice G.

Yelp
This is my new favorite breakfast place. Food is excellent. Service was friendly. Eggs were cooked as ordered, bacon was crisp, sourdough toast delicious and the best of all were the home fries which were fresh and crispy. All in all a wonderful experience. Will be going back.
google avatar

Ross K.

Yelp
Friendly service. Tasty breakfast eggs Benedict. It was a Sunday mid day. They were busy but the ambience was still relaxing. Recommended.

Patricia J.

Yelp
Very nice breakfast selection, everything was fresh and delicious. The breakfast burritos and stuffed French toast looked really good. The garden omelette, fresh fruit and rye toast was so good I couldn't save anything for leftovers. The service was friendly, fast and very efficient and accommodating. There aren't a lot of tables but certainly worth the wait, which was only a few minutes for us.
google avatar

Yelp
We just left here. Had a reservation for 7 for breakfast at 9:30am. We had 3 kids with us, 3, 4 and 6. We sat for literally an hour waiting for our food. Nobody came by to check in, or reassure us that our food was on its way, no "sorry for the wait", nothing. The kids' pancakes finally came out after the hour wait. After the waitress left the table, we realized none of us had silverware... after another 5 minute wait someone from our party got up and asked a different waitress for utensils. We could hear her apologizing from across the restaurant. Keeping 3 young kids calm, still and non-disruptive for an entire hour is a grueling undertaking. At least one table moved to a different one further away. The food was ok. Nothing to write home about but it wasn't bad. As we were getting in the car, my wife said "this definitely reinforced why I don't like going to restaurants with kids".

Yelp
This one lace is great. Michelle offers fantastic set and the food is great. From old fashioned to vegan options and even Turkish breakfast 10-6-19 Just gets better every time. Had the breakfast burrito and my wife had the pumpkin French toast. Fantastic food.

Suzann G.

Yelp
Food is always freshly made and the staff are very personable and remember their repeat patrons. The cafe is small and simply decorated, always clean and neat.
google avatar

Gina K.

Yelp
Everything has been amazing so far. Have gone about 4 times and always great food and service. Greeted right away and seated quickly. Defiantly try the gyro skillet, the tzatziki sauce is so good!

David P.

Yelp
I've now been to Smile Cafe five times. Without exception they are excellent. Best hash browns anywhere, perfectly caramelized. They feature both Turkish and traditional American fare. Whatever you pick it will be wonderful. However I like to focus on what is unique to a restaurant. The Soujouk is lovely. Turkish Coffee. The music and atmosphere, and of course The People. Very nice staff. Thank you for enhancing our community, Smile Cafe! I just took my elderly dad there 10 minutes ago.
google avatar

Crystal O.

Yelp
I went here for the first time for brunch and it was wonderful! It's a smaller restaurant with an intimate, shore feel. I had a cappuccino which was wonderful and comes with a nice presentation. I also had stuffed French toast with bananas...hands down the best French toast I ever had. They also have lunch offerings.
google avatar

Alec B.

Yelp
I stopped in with my family a while ago for brunch. I had the Mediterranean Quinoa Salad and it was delicious. Everything tasted very fresh and was prepared perfectly. I also had some of the Turkish coffee and it was delicious. The inside is very cute and aesthetically pleasing. I love how bright and fresh it is. It is very clean and open, so you won't feel cramped. Everything was fairly priced and the staff was very kind. I would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Abril H.

Yelp
The ambiance was inviting and calming-sea themed. The food presentation was appealing and the food tasted fresh and delicious! Being a rather new establishment, I understand they are working out some kinks, but hopefully the service will improve because it was noticeably unorganized and short-staffed. The second time I came to eat, I waited at the door for the hostess for at least 5 minutes and no one came so I left. I noticed as I waited that a few guests were also waiting unhappily for service at their table, and staff was in sight. The goodness of the food though makes me continue to have hope!
google avatar

Yelp
So far only tried some of the breakfast fare, but it was an amazing surprise! There is almost nothing great in this particular area, but Smile will be the one. They have a gluten free menu, as well as many vegetarian and healthy options, another element that is all too rare here. But, if you want good old, classic breakfast or lunch food you cannot go wrong here so far. I will update when I have chance to go again, which I definitely will! The eggs, homefries and bacon were all terrific and tasty. I should add also that the atmosphere is amazing, what a great job they did in renovating the old crepe place, a true transformation!

Jaclyn M.

Yelp
We went for the first time this morning. The service was great. We were immediately greeted with a smile! The food was delicious and the service was perfect. The prices are good too!!

Leandra H.

Yelp
Friendly staff, and absolutely delicious food. The atmosphere is bright and friendly. My husband got the western omelette and I ordered the falafel Benedict. Truly a gem! We will definitely be back! Thanks Smile Cafe, keep up the great work!

Jean M.

Yelp
We went in asked for a burger WELL done when it came out it was still raw and when my daughter cut it in half blood was all over her plate .. we called the owner over and asked to take it away by this time my daughter was not hunger due to the fact the blood was dripping all over the plate and over the other food ... so he said he would cook it she said no thank you and he continued to charge me for the hamburger. I have never had that happen before and refused to take it off the bill when I said we didn't eat that hamburger and he said, but I offered to cook it more and I said you don't understand she has lost her appetite. Terrible terrible service. Never in my life have I had service like that.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
This place is overpriced and no better than a diner which is about 1/3 the cost. I was looking to differentiate the quality of the food for the price and but I was extremely disappointed !!! The eggs, potatoes, and toast were no different than what I can get in my local diner. So many better options in the area to choose from. Step up your game or you won't last another at 6 months.

MaryJo R.

Yelp
This place lives up to its name. The service was friendly and everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there. The food was also excellent. The atmosphere and decor was a little dated, and when we first entered there was a faint smell of moisture. The location is not ideal, but this business will do well if they keep making food the way they do!
google avatar

Jon S.

Yelp
Really impressed with the newest breakfast place in the Easton area. The service was great, the food tasty, the prices reasonable. The pancakes were spot on. Looking forward to making this a regular breakfast stop.
google avatar

Hannah G.

Yelp
This is a nice small cafe. The food is delicious and Michelle is very nice. I've only been here a few times, but everything that I have tried has been good. If you are in the area I would recommend stopping in and trying some food for yourself.
google avatar

Karen H.

Yelp
Decided to finally try this little local place for brunch today. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had gyros and other Mediterranean dishes. I had the gyro skillet, which was a combination of eggs, tomatoes and gyro meat. It came with pitas and tzatziki sauce. Delicious, home fries with were great. My husband thought his gyro meat was a little dry. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.
google avatar

Teresa F.

Yelp
My new favorite breakfast spot. I love that they give you a homemade cookie with your cappuccino.

Rachelle G.

Yelp
This place is adorable. I've had tFood has excelllent flavor reasonably priced and the service is friendly and efficient. Pancakes are delicious!!! I've had the Mexican Burrito both times I've been here....it's Yummy!! Can't wait to try their lunch!

Diane S.

Yelp
You'll drive by it if you aren't looking for it...but look for it! Love the beachy theme, and a seat at the window. The Breakfast Burrito was stuffed with egg, onions, peppers, bacon, and "ooey gooey cheese" dripping out of it; below is the half I didn't eat. Friendly service. Stop in, you won't be sorry!
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast or lunch. I had the classic eggs Benedict with home fries and it was out of this world.
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
First off the server was great. She was very sweet. The food was just ok and not worth the price. For what I paid for two People I could have fed 4 at the William Penn Diner down the road. There was a funny smell to the place and the decor is lacking to say the least. It's a shame bc I was so hoping I would love this place.
google avatar

Arden M.

Yelp
Not happy. Food delivery was out of sync and some was cold. Pancakes were very heavy and not at all tasty. Omelet was missing the cheese. I won't be back.
