The best area wine shop which covers the whole range of delicious liquids from cheap & cheerful all the way to some super impressive bottles. Nice option to grab a cold white or sparkling for some quick enjoyment. Very helpful staff as well and ability to order in advance for pickup is great for us "regulars"!

Best wine shop in all of Brooklyn! Properly curating natural wines but they don’t all have to be funky fun stuff (they do have those, too!). Wines with structure and focus, there’s something for everyone. They also have some special amaro’s and other spirits.

Best wine shop ever! We end up going here so often because the staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful and it elevates the experience! Really amazing wines at truly affordable prices which is rare in Brooklyn! Organized in a way you can get your favorites and also try new exciting recommendations! I just joined their wine of the month club so I can learn more about the latest best vino in the world! They also deliver quickly and efficiently. This place is the best!

I can't think of a store with a better selection, more inherent wine knowledge or a friendlier staff. Their assortment is top notch, with loads of small makers from around the world. I feel like most of their wines and liquors you wont find anywhere else - certainly not your standard corner wine store. This is a true gem. They've helped me select bottles for almost every occasion and are super informative, patient and creative. I quite literally won't buy wine anywhere else. Also, my dog loves them (treats!).

I’ve always had such an amazing experience when I visit Smith and Vine. I often pop in to their tastings to see what they are pouring and it’s always a hit. Their staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. I love browsing around the store and I’m never disappointed by any wine on their $16 and under table. Anything I’ve ever purchased from them on my own or from any suggestion from the staff has always been stellar! If I can’t make it into the store in person, their online site is super user friendly and offers speedy delivery!

Love, love, love the folks at Smith & Vine. I’m far from a wine connoisseur, but the staff always manages to recommend something that’s awesome, and I can’t say they’ve ever led me wrong. I’m consistently impressed with how they remember me, have learned my tastes, and can quickly suggest wines they know I will like (and are within my budget). Hands down the best wine shop in all of New York!

I've come here regularly for years. They used to be nicer. Now, when you walk in, they act like they're doing you a favor to stop their conversation and interact with you. This evening I walked in, and the store was empty. It was 8pm on a Friday evening. Two employees were sampling wine and giggling in the back room. One sauntered out, looking like a teen who'd been asked to get out of bed. I had four loose canned cocktails. The store had an assortment of plastic devices to connect them (so they'd be easier to carry). "Do you think this one would fit?" I asked the guy. "I don't know, you can try it," he said, looking annoyed. He sulkily rang me up. Didn't say thanks--no one ever has in this store. I think about the notices by the register about small businesses finding it hard to survive these days, hence the credit card surcharge, etc. One tip: Small businesses survive by treating customers like they matter and are not a total bother. Now I'm trying to figure out how to order the stuff I like online. It makes me sad.

Great selection of wines and liquors (whiskey especially). They keep their website inventory up to date, so even though you can't step inside due to COVID, it's easy enough to order. Picked up a bottle of Bruichladdich Scotch for a friend, a bottle of Heaven Hill Mellow Corn for a cool $20 (it's basically a meme at this point among online whiskey reviewers - and well worth it), and a big box of St. Agrestis negroni cocktail. People working there were super nice. Will be back soon!

Go to neighborhood wine shop. Extensive list of different wines. Employees seem very knowledgeable about the wine that they have which is important. Any recommendations they've given me, I always end up a happy customer.

The worst customer service!! Went there for a bottle of wine and they looked liked they were being bothered when asked a question .

This was a super cool little wine shop in Brooklyn. They have tons of options and a bunch of locally made products as well. My wife and I picked up a pretty cheap bottle of Montepuluciano and for being a pretty cheap bottle, it was some pretty good wine. If I lived in Brooklyn, I would frequent this place quite often.

Authentic high quality friendly down to earth yet eclectic! This joint has it all. Local brooklyn vibe - I think the owners live in the neighborhood forever - but no hipster Attitude. I have had so many amazing wines here that I never would have tasted. Easy quick website to order. Staff super friendly although they are being careful with covid so order or call ahead. I have loved them for years and they never let me down! But the review today - what made me take time to actually write - is this new one of a kind Rye they just made! DG Watson's. Amazing. Best Rye I ever had! Gonna buy it for the holidays for everyone! This place has an amazing bourbon and tequila and gin selection as well. Even some tasty mezcals if you are feeling spicy! Best place in the hood for sure!

This is almost the ideal local wineshop. Smith & Vine is cozy, mostly affordable, plays a nice rotation of funky music, and although the selection is not comprehensive, it's well-curated with a lot of good options (including locally produced stuff like Due North rum, a favorite of mine). For the most part, the staff is friendly and ready with recommendations, even if it is just for the lunch they just ordered from Cobble Grill. It's run by the same fine folk as Stinky Brooklyn up the street, and I'll gladly offer them my business whenever I'm in need.

Wonderful little wine shop in one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city, from the same people who own Stinky Brooklyn. The decor is simple, welcoming, and warm: lots of wine bottles everywhere, a small barrel on display, and a small counter for wine tasting. I like this place in particular for a white Loire wine that I love: Domaine du Salvard Cheverny from 2008. 80% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Chardonnay. If you like Sancerre, you will love this one: crisp and mineral, with a very long, grassy, finish. At $15 per bottle, it's a very sweet deal. They have, however, an amazing selection of single malt Scotch whisky, including rarities like Springbank, Ardbeg, and Glenrothes. Last time I came here I was looking for a Crucian rum, but they didn't have any. I ended up buying a Gruet brut blanc de noirs[1]: a Pinot Noir sparkling wine from New Mexico. This bubbly wine has a very rich, salmon color, and is slightly more fruity than a sparkling wine made from Chardonnay. Great to accompany a dessert at the end of a meal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1] Although excellent, I would not recommend this wine to end a romantic dinner, if you have hopes of scoring. Granted: we had a few glasses of Cheverny during dinner, but a glass and a half of Gruet was enough for my gf to pass out on the couch almost immediately...

Nice wine shop on Smith St. Quaint, cozy and warm. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Many bottles less than $12. Always saves the day ;-)

Wine? Liquor? Yes please! This is my favorite place for both. The staff is super helpful and I've never had a bad recommendation. In fact, I have been exposed to a whole new world of tastes since going to Smith & Vine. There are tastings throughout the week and no pressure to purchase, although I usually get at least one I try. Their selection is large and affordable. Even the inexpensive table choices are winners. Close to the train so it's even super convenient! They also deliver which is a bonus.

Came here recently to buy a bottle of wine to give away as a gift. The staff showed me only two options that were both over the budget I gave, and then refused to gift wrap it. He said I could buy a gift bag for $2, which turned out to be $3.50 plus tax. Not at all pleased with the customer service, what little of it there was.

I went to the new location the other day & had a great experience. Bought great wine, the staff was friendly & helpful. We went in again this evening for a bottle of Prosecco. I decided to get a half bottle knowing that it wasn't the "best" they have to offer, but they don't offer any good half bottles. Side note: I do think if you are going to sell products at your store you should like them. When I went to pay the owner made a very smart ass back handed comment to me about what I purchased. Which was not appreciated & made me know that I won't go back. Thanks for a great first impression but your second wasn't as successful.

OK, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and be the first to say I'm not so fond of this place. Yes, I've frequented it quite often. And given them plenty of business. And yes, they do have a nice little selection of wines. But 99% of the times I've been in here, the workers completely ignore me. They're like, too cool for school, or something. Always immersed in their own stupid conversations. Barely even aware that there are customers in the store that they should pay some attention to. Oh, and I've been witness to several occasions when they've talked shit about customers as soon as they walk out the door. Jerks. I'm waiting for the day someone gives this place some competition in the neighborhood so I can take my business elsewhere.

I still haven't quite yet figured out the organization system of their featured wines. Perhaps this is due to my wine ignorance. I do like the fact that above each wine bottle there is a little tag with a brief description of the wine. And, even after that, if one still looks clueless, the staff are willing to help (definitely not pressure-y). Oh, and did I mention the $12 and under table? I snagged two bottles from it the other day. Alla salute!

The $12 and under wine table is a life-saver. I like an awesome, expensive wine when I'm fancy dining, but my daily drinking needs to be on the low-cost. No use drinking a gallon of $50 wine on a Thursday night or Sunday afternoon or Wednesday morning. Great overall selection. The delivery service is not great, but I think of S&V as a "duck-in" spot for a quick bottle.

Great selection, an awesome $12 and under table, and sweet staff make this place the go-to liquor store in Cobble Hill. Also they sold us a Smith & Vine label $10 corkscrew that we bought in a pinch and initially thought was overpriced; it's turned out to be the greatest corkscrew we've ever had. Seriously, it's like God Himself is helping you open your bottle when you use this thing. No complaints whatsoever--even their matches are quality. Highly recommended.

The "cool" wine store in my neighborhood. I am on a mission to try all of their $10 and under selections of red wine, but they keep changing them and I'm not that big of a drinker, so go figure... Great selection of wines to choose from. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to me. But have y'all read some of those wine descriptions they tack up above every wine??? I really enjoy knowing the percentages of varietals that are in every wine in the store. I think it's a nice touch. But check out some of the other info on those little pieces of paper--quoting a Rascal Flatts song in regards to a wine??? And listening to weird instrumental piano soundtrack cd's while trying to enjoy browsing the shelves is a jarring experience. There's gotta be a nerd on that staff somewhere.

Being an uncultured dolt when it comes to beverages beyond a few decent micro-brews and Tropicana's 9 varieties of OJ, I highly value the Smith & Vine shop. Many 'o times have the friendly, informative staff saved me from an embarrassing social event, transforming me - for a spell - into a seemingly knowledgeable connoisseur of wine... at least until the host starts asking questions.

I love this place. We use to come here a lot when we lived on Hoyt- now we have the wine exchange by TJ's. Popped in here last week and found that my guilt is uneccessary since its the same owners! Good for them- good for me! Anyway, Smith and Vine is still so cute. There$12 and under table is AWESOME!!!!!!! and always a safe bet since they hand select all their wines. Seems like they have new staff when I was in, and a super knowledgeable (and adorable) Colin Farrell look-a-like helped us choose our wines for our dinner party. Will come back again...when not lugging groceries!!!!!!!!

Bring a hundred dollars and head straight to the $10 and under selection. Have a field day. Choose what looks good, what sounds good, and eight more. If you have no criteria whatsoever just play eenie-meenie-minie-moe. Plus it's technically spring so you can go stock up on rose. Helpful service (you gotta ask for it), smart wine descriptions, and a great selection. Wine nerds already know to come here. You should too.

Smith & Vine does have a nice 10/12$ table with a lot of nice values. They also have a great selection in the rest of the store if you want to get your 'wine-geek' on. Even better, often they will have met/have known/have visited the winery and winemakers. I will, begrudgingly, agree with many other reviewers that the staff has become a bit stand-offish in the past year or two. I've chalked this up to the owners not being in the shop as much as they used to.

Smith and Vine was recommended to us by a bartender friend. It's a small but roomy liquor store that has a nice selection of wines, common liquors, and some rarer items. The staff is friendly and quirky. We particularly liked the gal behind the counter who thanked us for buying several odd and incongruous liquors. She then went on to discuss with us the joys of yellow vs green chartreuses/chartreusi? In either case, it was a fun discussion and S&V is a fine place to hit when you are looking for booze.

Reading these reviews I have to chuckle. If what you want is a huge wine-mart of cheap wines, then go to Trader Joe's-- you can't beat the prices and it's a great selection. And they'll totally leave you alone. If you don't care about taste, or you crave the Clos du Bois, then by all means pop into and generic liquor store and stock up. Smith and Vine is the place to go if you WANT someone to recommend a GREAT cheap bottle,. If you LIKE having someone say "I have tasted this, its $10 and should be $40" (which I do), then it's worth the drive from Manhattan to stock up. It's crowded for a reason!

I haven't yet been able to take the benefit of their extensive wine choice but I have been able to follow some sage advice from the staff to choose between their great selection of regional American whiskeys and the one I was recommended was absolutely great. I am looking forward to coming back. The Jakewalk/ Smith & Vine/ Stinky people have come up trumps again

I love this place. Great selection of wine that doesn't kill the bank. Solid options for scotch and some nice variety of gin. Super friendly to dogs and helpful team working there. Must try!!

This is the closest wine shop to my house, however, I suggest you keep walking and go somewhere else. (My favorite in the neighborhood is Brooklyn Wine Exchange, but I also recommend Scotto's Wine Cellar as a better alternative to Smith & Vine). This wine shop "fits the neighborhood" as far as decor and vibe. I have given it a fair chance over the last three years. While I really do like the people who work there, their wine is just bad. There have been instances where I have gotten recommendations and was embarrassed to be serving the wine to my guests (it was so bad). This has happened at least twice. So now I only go in if I know I've had the bottle before.

A lovely neighborhood wine store with little pretension and a carefully chosen selection. Ooh, that rhymed. They seem to have tastings a good bit, and collaborate with other local businesses to offer food pairings too. Had a great Italian dessert wine with some heavenly brownies last summer, if I remember correctly. Most of the wines are midrange ($15-35), but they have a section right in the middle of the store of $10 (or is it $15?) and under wines. These value wines aren't Yellow Tail either- every bottle I've gotten has been consistently good, if not great. It seems like the owners care a lot about wine and getting their customers into drinking wine. They're doing a great job at that!

One of my favorite neighborhood staples! They moved and are now between Union and President. I always leave with a smile from my interaction with these guys.

Poor customer service. I was looking for a specific brand of wine that was for a gift. I asked the sales associate or manager that was on the floor stocking the shelves. His response was nope and turned around to give us his back and continued doing the work he was doing. So immediately I started to walk out because he was rude and clearly not a very good sales man. As we were leaving he loudly said if you looking for a wine in that price range we don't have it. How rude! He should of showed me something similar to what I was looking for and asked some more questions to make a sale. was looking for a brand that was inexpensive but what my secret Santa requested. I felt that he assumed I was in the wrong store because he assumed I could not afford the selections the store sells. Which is very much not the case. I will never return there and continue to go to my regular store on Court St where they know how to treat customers.

Came here to grab some wine for the byob across the street at zaytoons. Got two nice bottles of chilled white wine for $10 each. They gave nice plastic bags to put the wine bottles in.

Selection is well curated and fantastic. Staff are friendly, enthusiastic, and always very helpful. Prices are solid for NYC.

If New Yorkers can't get their cheap to mid-range import wines with cute labels at Trader Joe's like we do, they at least have a wealth of adorable neighborhood bottle shops. This one has a concentrated, stylish collection of accessibly priced wines you'd feel great about bringing to a dinner party, and any liquor you'd need for at-home mixology. We were charmed by free tasting, and ended up buying both on offer; a couple of nice reds under $15.

I love the staff. They have gotten to know us and what we like, so they will often make recommendations as soon as we walk in. They have also starting stocking things we request. Love the $12 and under table. Bring your dog and get a treat.

Okay I'm at discount wine buyer at this stage in my life now. Their $12 and under table is unremarkable and I have purchased two bottles for 10 or $11 there were absolutely putrid- I actually spilled down my sink drain I love wine and I like alcohol and I'm on such a tight budget as a freelance writer (BTW don't annoy a freelance writer and try to outsmart them-no matter what we're usually poor and we have champagne taste and beer budgets).This wine shop is typical hipster- overpriced, pretentious and usually 2 to $3 more for their discount wines than you could find at let's say Astor wines in the village. Much better selections elsewhere I'm actually more comfortable going down to the Hoyt Street quote-unquote ghetto area will you buy wine through bulletproof glass at least they're genuine.

Finding a good wine store in an overly gentrified white Brooklyn neighborhood : mission impossible ? probably...Smith and wine looks like it's twin brother Stinky which is without even looking run by the same people . So indeed : same target audience here : white successful families and same line of employees : white aspiring successful youngster ! the selection and decoration match with the afford mentioned qualities...meaning yes you'll find a great bottle but it won't be from the formatted recommendation and well most usual good picks will clock around 5 to 8 dollars more than any of the best wine store in Manhattan...that's a deal breaker ! unless you just don't care about over spending and have a stroller to push

You know when there's two cashiers, and they are both talking to each other while you're making a purchase? Yeah, that's customer service at this place. Sorry to interrupt your riveting conversation while I buy my tepid white wine from your tiny fridge. Seems like this place only thrives because there are so few options around. Thankfully in my hood, we have plenty of better options.

I love wine and spirits. When I look or a wine shop, I want knowledgable employees and when I look for a liquor store, I want local and I want variety. I don't want Bacardi, I don't want stoli. Give me something fun, unique and delicious over heavily marketed crap spirits that are shoved down our throats from corporations who could care less about small batch or quality for that matter. Either way, everything I want and everything you should want is here. Oh, and ask for Courtney. She's hot and awesome and she knows her stuff. -Julia

Whenever I walk in there, someone's saying something like "Mwah, this will be just the sort of thing you'll be experiencing on your upcoming trip to Portugal." Then I have to walk out. I think they do give away samples though. I'm sure they have great stuff, it's just so small that you can't avoid being paid attention to by the staff.

S & V is the place to go!!! The staff are wonderful, informative and very personable! The atmosphere is catered for you to have an enjoyable wine buying experience with the music and the curated wines! Very affordable, although you will be thinking you are sipping wine thmillion bucks!! Best wine and liquor shop in bk!! And DELIVERY!!

Top notch. These guys know what they're doing, and they know their clientele. Every bottle is handpicked, so you can't go wrong. I've never had even a mediocre wine from them. Not sure what you want? Read their humorous write ups for each and every bottle, and you'll get a good sense of what's inside. Still not sure? Ask any one of the staff. They're happy to leave you to your browsing, and just as happy to jump in with an expert opinion if asked.

I'd really give them a 3.5 if I could. Great selection, but the staff needs an attitude adjustment. It was quiet when I went there recently, but it still took quite a few minutes before a staffer deigned to help me choose a bottle. If it were closer I'd go to LeNell's instead. Still, they have plenty of good stuff.

GREAT place to pick up a bottle of wine. The service is very friendly, enthusiastic and eager to help. When ever I visit my sis in Brooklyn we always pop in here for a bottle and I have always been very pleased with what we get. Last time I was here, I got a bottle of the best Chianti I have ever had. Great prices too!

When I first started visiting Smith and Vine, I thought I knew something about wine; borrowed knowledge from my totally wine obsessed brother, but enough to get around a wine shop and confirm the differences between grapes, regions, countries, hemispheres. Of course, that's a great start, but what does it really taste like? Well, now I have a better idea. Thanks to the wonderfully attentive and knowledgable staff and owners of S&V, I've learned a great deal about wine, and figured out both what I like, and what I should look for in wines from regions/makers I'd never even considered. I'm probably one of those people who, according to some reviews, take over the attention of the staff, thereby ignoring others, because I want to know and love hearing about what's new, what the winemakers are like, how small the limestone caves are, etc. There is a handful of great wine shops in NYC; this is one of them.

Nicely edited selection that capitalizes on its minimal space with a lot of under the radar finds and a few bottles of everyone's favourite grapes. A staffer struck up a conversation with me about my choices and their enthusiasm feels unaffected and genuine. The room is beautiful, the crowd brisk and the staff friendly--and I'm basking in the good graces of the first bottle. It can't get any better than this.

I have not had one bad wine from the $10 table. Everything has been great. I barely know what to look for in wine beside the type so it has helped me enjoy bottles upon bottles. The stock on the $10 table is also pretty well rotated leaving me with new choices most of the time.
