The 15 Best Jazz Clubs In NYC

"A foolproof way to justify all of your turtlenecks is by drinking martinis at Smoke on Broadway and 106th on the Upper West Side. The little jazz club brings in noteworthy musicians from all over the world to play on an intimate red-curtained stage. Google
Took my partner for her birthday and it was superb! The food was excellent, we shared the polpette and bread for starters, followed by steak frites for main and chicken parm for main course, this was served and eaten mostly before the jazz started. Then once the music started the cocktails are excellent! Overall perfect spot for a special evening, we will be back!

Google
We loved every second of our time here. Great music, great performances. The food was really good though I wished my burger was cooked better. Would recommend a visit if you like jazz and want a night out.

Google
Great jazz club! Much more intimate than the downtown clubs. I like the reserved seating . I had the special cod dish which was very nice. Can’t wait to go again.

Google
Smoke Jazz Club exceeded my expectations and I will be back again. Great vibes with even better music, this place is something everyone would enjoy and should experience! FOOD -was great which made the overall experience even better. we started with the grilled octopus and roasted pork which did not disappoint. The octopus was soft and tasty with a nice char finish from the grill and the pork was a tender and savory slab pared with an apple- apricot chutney which was soooo good! For dinner I had the New York Strip medium rare. This was steak house quality ! The outside had a nice crust and the inside was cooked to perfection. DRINKS- we’re good, I asked for the Chai Espresso Martini and I’m pretty sure I was given a regular Espresso Martini which was fine, I didn’t mind. My bf had the old fashioned which was also really good! Would have been better with the cubed ice 🧊 to avoid getting watered down but it was still really nice. Vibe/Music- The total atmosphere was stunning and intimate. At first when you step in your hit with the beautiful bar and chandeliers, it kinda gives off 1920’s. The space feels super romantic so I definitely recommend for dates. Because the space so intimate every part of the restaurant has a good view of the stage. The artist were great and the music did not disappoint. This place overall was very welcoming and inviting. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
I’ve always wanted to visit a jazz bar in NYC. During my trip to the city, I looked up options on Google, and my choice was Smoke—both because of the performer scheduled for that night and the great reviews of the place. It was truly a wonderful experience: great music, excellent food, and fantastic service. The show starts right on time, so I suggest arriving a bit early and warming up with a drink at the attached bar. The location is perfect—we took the subway there and back. It was amazing

Google
Fun. Jazz. Good stage decor. Seating for the audience is cramped and gives a poor line of sight to the performers at the stage. Musicians were great. Go for a fun, unusual evening. They have 3 seating sessions. Each is about 2 hours.

Kirk Martinez

Google
Nice jazz venue. Make sure you avoid the seats behind the musicians and the undercooked ratatouille. That leaves one good vegetarian main: mushroom wine sauce polenta. It is a pity they insist on one main course per person and make a point of charging for paying by card. Turn your chair to avoid neck ache. However the 1hr music is short.

Google
We were recommended to go along by a friend of a friend and so glad we were able to snag a table. Superb food, service and hospitality. Wonderful atmosphere and smoking hot music. So happy that we were seated in Kate's section - thanks for looking after us!

Yelp
Smoke is a great jazz club...one of the classiest I know about in NYC. Highly recommended, especially if you want to be in a refined jazz environment. I've been here four or five times to see various acts including Ravi Coltrane. I'd call the dishes Food Network quality. Their fish is always cooked perfectly, especially if there's a dish that requires a sear on the fish skin. They have interesting desert choices too, like a savory ricotta cheese dessert with crostini.

Yelp
It's hard to review this place because the show we saw was terrific -- 5 stars. We had great seats and the sound was perfect. The food however was not good. And it was a pretty penny. $20 for a non alcoholic margarita? Hahaha. The service was pretty shoddy too. We were seated at 6 for a 7 pm show and our food showed up right before the show began. I would've had dessert but was never offered. I wouldn't have had a second margarita but I didn't get offered one. Meh.

Yelp
Smoke Jazz and Supper Club was renovated since we were last here back in 2019 (pre-pandemic). Brand new red leather booths and seating. The Bar area is now separate from the performance and dining room. It is still a smart cozy venue featuring an array of talented jazz artists. Cover charge is now ($55) for the two nightly sets: at 7pm or 9pm, dinner and drinks are extra. There is also a late night set without dinner (some without cover) at 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday. The acoustics are good, tables are very close, lighting is soft and dim, there's a full bar and small decent wine list. We were happy to enjoy the "Ode to Joe Henderson" series tonight, featuring Renee Rosnes (piano) , Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Melissa Aldana (saxophone), Peter Washington (bass), Al Foster (drums). **You can now reserve your table of choice online when purchasing tix** ** Staff is smoothly run and efficient**

Yelp
Best jazz show ever! Food and drinks were just ok but go for the music and you won't regret it. I will say, the hosts need to learn how to damage control. At some point you have to tell customers they will need to wait outside. It was way too crowded waiting inside, a fire hazard and just annoying.

Michael S.

Yelp
Intimate space to get close to the music. Acoustics are wonderful. Good cocktails and entrees, we recommend the chicken and the ratatouille. Sides are also very good. Very friendly and reliable service, altogether one of the best jazz dinner clubs in NY.

Karita R.

Yelp
The food, atmosphere, aesthetics, drinks and excellence in musicianship was incredible!

Yelp
Guys! We had the most magical Thanksgiving weekend in New York and Smoke was the absolute highlight of the trip (even over the Macy's parade)! My brother and sister in law live on the upper West Side, and suggested that we take a date night and they would watch the kids , so on their recommendation we ended up at Smoke! I love all sorts of music, including jazz, but this was by far the best show I've been to in a long time. The venue is so intimate, every seat must have a great view. The vibe was awesome, I didn't feel like a weird out of towner. Thanksgiving Eve with Abena Koomson-Davis Quintet featuring Steve Davis. The hubs had the fried chicken and I loved the coq au vin special. We also had crab cake and kale salad, Pumpkin tiramisu and almond cake for dessert and split a bottle of the house Cabernet. Best date night ever! Definitely try this sweet local spot, you will love it. I will be back every time I come into the city from now on!

Yelp
Very intimate club, close quarters like Blue Note NYC, service was great, food was outstanding! Fried chicken entree was great, chicken was juicy & crispy skin, cole slaw was decent. Crab cake appetizer was excellent! Food service before set starts is quick. Sat at table nearest stage yet ears were not blown out by musicians playing. Great venue to hear jazz music!

Yelp
On the plus side the music is exceptional. Worthy of the expensive ticket, and the sound in the room is great. The sound person was attentive and listening closely the whole set - no "set it and forget it" stuff here. Other aspects of this club are strange- Why do they insist you must buy an entree instead of just spending the same money on drinks or even dessert? I wasn't allowed to only order expensive drinks and a salad. Not very welcoming. The $30 fried chicken was ok, but overpriced. The overpriced $24 Laphroaig 10yr old was served in a clean glass and tasted like it should, a rarity in NYC bars. The most egregious issue, especially for those of us interested in the performance, is the club actually encourages patrons to film short excerpts of the music. This was very distracting - the otherwise stellar music constantly interrupted by people holding up cell phones and taking video as if the musicians were animals in a zoo. There's a tradition in New York jazz clubs of a quiet policy and a "no cell phone" rule for a reason - it distracts from the performance and is overall damaging to the musicians creativity. This should NOT be encouraged and I hope they change this policy as soon as possible. It's not a good look to be more concerned about your social media than the customers experience of the music. Overall: Great music in a weird and expensive club.

Yelp
Came here just for drinks and a show and my boyfriend and I had an awesome time. We saw Eddie Henderson and his band and they were great. The drinks were pricey, but that's expected in NYC. Our view during the show was blocked by a pillar, but after the show one of the musicians invited us to stay for their second set and got us good seats. It was a super memorable experience and we would love to go back!

Yelp
This was a last minute stop on our final night in New York. I will honestly say I had the best dish ever in my life here. The pork belly appetizer literally melts in your mouth. I don't know who created this but I still think about it to this day. Nothing will ever top it. The service was amazing as well as the drinks. I will say the standing room only was a crazy concept to me. You are literally standing behind people on a wall. If you just HAD to see this person then I'd understand paying but it was very cramped and just unnecessary lol. While people are eating and drinking you are standing over them, on their backs. Not a good experience. Other than that great time!

Katrina P.

Yelp
Everything was wonderful for my birthday! Food, service. Ambience and best of all the Music!

Yelp
music was a 5/5!!! acoustics were good, and the performance was amazing. We had a great time listening to the musicians -- lots of talent. sadly, the food was subpar. I would not recommend coming here for the food. We ordered the Smoke Cheeseburger, fried chicken, and apple crisp. I asked for my burger to be cooked medium, but it was extremely red and raw inside. The fried chicken was okay, wouldn't order again. There is a $20 minimum pp, but I would definitely recommend using that on drinks or dessert instead. the venue is also small and tight. our tickets said to arrive by 8:30 for our 9pm show but that definitely was not necessary as we were extremely packed as the previous audience was heading out. the host asked us to wait by the bar until the tables were ready and when we moved to the bar the bartender told us to move as they needed to use the space there. there was really no place for us to go, and it was an unpleasant experience waiting to get seated. I would definitely recommend showing up only 10-15 minsbefore the show!

Yelp
This "place" is a one of a kind, not in a good way. Being a life long New Yorker who loves Jazz I've been to just about every type of venues for great Jazz. This is the first place which holds customers hostage by getting top talent to play there and force people to eat overpriced entrees if u want a prime table. They charge le Bernadine prices in a tight jazz club for a dinner set. Food is not high quality. It is a despicable practice. Needless to say unless they bring back Dizzy Gillespie from the dead, I will never visit this place. Brad Meldau 9:00 show 12/02/24 $120 for 2 tickets $40 for 2 drinks $65 for food I ordered takeout to fill dinner minimum. Tax + tip. Amazing show, but horrible humiliating experience at Smoke.

Michelle W.

Yelp
The Chef's name was Molly. Yes, you must remember that name, she was the absolute BEST because every meal that me and my group ordered was Deelicious!! We actually met her in the crowd by accident and got the pleasure of telling her how fantastic the Pork Chops were, The Salmon but especially the Chocolate Mousse desert delight!! And our Waitress was very patient with our goofy group, we were so undecided and took forever to choose our meals however, she didn't get an attitude as most would. She was kind and continued to try and assist us in making our decisions. This happened to be only her third day on the job, btw. The music was pitch perfect. Didn't care for the people allowed to stand behind our seats in the Standing Room only section. I kept feeling like they were looking over our shoulders. We will definitely go again.
google avatar

Henry N.

Yelp
Loved the food and overall experience. The band was excellent. They had great timing! The drinks were good as well. Only thing no parking... had to circle around to find.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Music, was great and I really enjoyed the show. Turns out the drummer and I have a mutual friend. We arrived a little late. Don't do that if you expect to get served for dinner. Place is small, tables tight, dinner service needs to start before the show. Smoke comped our beers against cover/minimum for dinner shows. That soothed the disappointment.
google avatar

Malik D.

Yelp
The only thing I did not like about this venue was the time between shows. The bar area which is outside of main showroom is very tiny and so many people were jumbled trying to leave and those arriving for the next show. But...the performance was lovely , the drink was tasty and the foes were good, honestly I was so surprised by the amount of fries that was given. They did have a full menu with salmon and other items. I would definitely return to see another show.

K M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere intimate small club grade sound terrific food can't recommend this place enough. I go there all the time.
google avatar

Quin S.

Yelp
This was not a good time guys, straight up. No need to sugar coat. The space is awkwardly small (if squeezing water from a rock was a dining and event space...). Do not overwhelm yourself with the menu and its' round about wording. In a nutshell- for party of 2 to watch a performance, have a drink and have apps (not a meal); you spend minimum $140. I got the feel the wait staff gets annoyed with ppl trying to figure out the menu and pricing so they come off snappy and inattentive as if to imply "look it's pricey here, you're gonna pay $$$ so whaddya want!" I liked the shrimp appetizer. The musicians did their thing. We came, we saw, we'll look for some more...

Alex B.

Yelp
Awesome, great food, great jazz, great service, great atmosphere! Best Jazz Club in NYC.
google avatar

Yelp
Another review I really shouldn't write. Smoke is, with Blue Note, my favorite jazz club in NY. Actually, I like it as a venue much more than Blue Note. The decor is the best of a club in NY. The food is actually really good. I would go just for the food. It's tight, but not uncomfortably so like Blue Note or Smalls, but it certainly doesn't have the space of Birdland. The musicians I've seen there have been damn solid. Perhaps not quite BN star level, but solid. Acoustics are very good. I love this place.
google avatar

Gary P.

Yelp
Great vibe , tight quarters if your a bit big but the drinks , service and most importantly the sound was perfect . Didn't eat but what was served around us looked appealing. Will try supper next time

Yelp
Don't know what the hype is all about. We came because Opentable was advertising this location for restaurant week. Terrible decision. We were rushed to order upon being seated. We asked for water which came 30 min after. The food arrived slow and did not taste good at all. The waiter was rude. To top it off, they poured water very quickly which caused it to spill over as they made their rounds at every table. So basically every table had a puddle of water on their table. For $42 dollars the prixe fixe was filling. As it should. The included dessert was limited to basically 3 pieces of brownies. You can order different desserts for an additional cost. To listen to the jazz band, you have to pay an additional $38 dollars. You can find better food and music down at west village. Don't bother coming.

Andy R.

Yelp
Wonderful! My favorite jazz spot in the city, a true neighborhood gem. Music and food is top notch with a cool retro decor. Service is attentive without being rushed, the manager paul is really helpful. If you want a true jazz club with great music and without the selfie toting tourists this is the place for you.

Yelp
I almost tripped and married my date. SMOKE Jazz was so.....!(the correct word fails me). The most intimate setting. Manager/host Tarick set off the evening with his professionalism and charm. He is wonderful at what he does. Servers followed suit with their friendliness and competence. The way they effortlessly weaved their way throughout the small space without disturbing the show actually added to the whole set up. The food was good too. THEN, the Eric Reed Quartet brought it all home, tied it up nicely into the perfect evening. There are about four shows each evening (7pm, 9, 10:30 and midnight) and I strongly suggest you do at least two. One just left me hungry for more and we stayed the entire evening. Now wasn't my date thoughtful. I absolutely, categorically without a doubt recommend SMOKE. You cannot come to the UWS and not stop by. Five freekin' stars! The End. In case you were wondering, The evening's entertainment was provided by the Eric Reed Quartet with Mr. Reed on Piano/Fender Rhodes, Clovis Nicholas on bass, Jon Beshay soprano Sax and Flute and Aaron Seeber Drums. They Featured Jazz recordings from 1959 especially John Coltrane's works. The Johnny O'Neal Trio took the stage at midnight. Mr. O'Neal's voice sounds like cigs and honey. So raspy yet sweet. The End... again.

Udi O.

Yelp
Love this place. Went for my birthday and had an amazing time. Fantastic jazz, and food was fine. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Impeccable EVERYTHING! This place was amazing! The service, good and show was perfect. A birthday I truly enjoyed

Yelp
Nice spot for some music. The room is quite cramped. Food was delicious, but very expensive.

Yelp
Food was very good but pricey. Service was great! Music was awesome. We took a friend there for her birthday and the whole audience sang!

Yelp
GO TO THE BAR LOUNGE! Patrice is THE BEST! She makes THE BEST DIRTY MARTINI! so simple, but super cold, great olives amazing! She makes you feel welcome and makes a mean drink! The vibe is also great! Wonderful music (great acoustics), the food is elevated and TASTY! Service raises the bar here!

Alissa P.

Yelp
I went here with my significant other while we were visiting from out of town and we couldn't be more disappointed with our experience. Let me forward that the band was incredible, a 5/5 (Orrin Evans All-Star Quintet). The ambiance was great with the dimly lit room, but the space itself felt extremely crowded with narrow aisles on each side of the room. My SO ordered a gin and tonic with Bombay that tasted like water with...well, water. How can you justify $21 for a drink that tastes like tap water and not even the slightest amount of alcohol? Our waitress didn't ask us how our drinks were or if we would like another, but she continued to refill our water cups when they were still 88% full. She didn't walk around enough for us to have the opportunity to send the drink back, maybe because the aisles were too narrow or she didn't feel like the time was right because of the band playing. Regardless, lost some reputation on that part. For the food - oh my goodness the food. The best part was the focaccia and that was even edging on the grounds of being sub-par. Their charcuterie board had two sticks of Manchego and one rectangular cut of Brebirousse. We ordered a medium rare burger for us to share and there were parts where the meat was uncooked, not rare - raw. Plus, since our table was small, they asked to take away some plates to make room. My SO told them not to take the focaccia from our table and they did. There was an empty space right in front of him. This experience was overall not worth the $50 per person plus the mandatory purchase of food. If you want to give money to someone or an organization, you have better luck with giving a couple of bucks to a person suffering from homelessness and donating to the NY Public Library or even better, the band themselves.

Yelp
I would give this club full stars EXCEPT for one part of our visit, so I will begin with that. I had booked Table 16 (front and center) to celebrate a milestone. We arrived at 10:15PM as requested. The man who greeted us and scanned our QR codes, confirmed our reservation, but asked us to wait a moment near the door. After a long delay, I poked my head into the performance space and saw him in conversation with a man seated at the adjacent table (Table 17). When the greeter/maitre de returned to us to bring us to our table, he brought us to a table in the middle of the room, saying "This is your table." I looked at him and said what he already knew was true, "No, that is NOT our table." Knowing that he couldn't get away with it, he left us standing in the middle of the floor while he went back to the (drunken) man at table 17 who was forced to remove his champagne bucket from our table (He had been there for the 9PM show and wanted to stay on for the 10:30 show and didn't want anyone between him and the stage.) Table 16 was cleared and we were seated. The greeter/maitre de did not apologize. I gave him a look that said, "You are a jerk, and whatever $$ the guy at Table 17 may have slipped you was not worth angering a customer who came here to enjoy the music and only wanted what he had paid for." The Jerk did not reappear at our table. The rest of the wait staff was excellent. The food was great and the music was wonderful. (A recently formed group "The Heavy Hitters" performed.) How could The Jerk have handled the situation better? He could have returned to us and asked, "Are you really set on Table 16 because if not, I have a different table for you and will adjust your bill accordingly." Or, he could have told the drunken guy (who was subsequently cordial to us throughout) "Sorry, buddy, but the reservations are specific and Table 16 is what they reserved." The moral of the story? The world is full of jerks, some of whom are in positions from which they ought to be fired. Forewarned. I am glad I went to SMOKE and I would like to return, but if and when I do, I hope The Jerk is not there to greet me, because the interaction won't be pleasant.

Yelp
This is nice Jazz supper with great music. The club is small with very close seating.

Yelp
This place seems to be for lovers. I came here on a Thursday night for a late dinner with my homegirl and we must have been the only twosome that was not here on a date. We have OpenTable reservations and were able to waive the music charge because we were there for NYC restaurant week. The food was solid. Everything tastes as it should. I enjoyed the calamari the best which was paired with a tasty mayo sauce. The Mac & cheese was nothing special. The dessert was also quite good but the most memorable part of the dining experience was the Latin Jazz band that was performing. As a result of the tight space, the volume was louder than I would like but completely entertaining. No complaints about the food or service so I would definitely see myself coming back to star lovingly into Babes' eyes as the jazz tunes envelope us...

Yelp
This review is for restaurant week dinner (3 courses for $42 per person). Four stars almost entirely for the music. One star off for portion sizes / food. If you are a jazz lover you should absolutely check out this spot! If you buy the 3 course prix fixe menu you do not have to pay cover for the 1 hour music set, which is great. We arrived 15 minutes prior to the end of the 7PM set, and were seated despite this which was convenient for us, although I'm sure we were disruptive to the musicians / other patrons so I felt a little bad about that. We were allowed to stay through the next set from 9-10PM though which I thought was great. As soon as the lights go down the room becomes very intimate with the sole focus being the musicians. I personally love watching their hands and faces and seeing the joy that is playing jazz music. I didn't look at my phone or watch once during my entire visit (except to take the photographs below). I had the shrimp cocktail to start, which was literally 4 shrimp and cocktail sauce. OK. Would have appreciated more shrimp but what can you do. My friend had the arugula salad to start which she enjoyed. I had the lobster ravioli as my entree and it was quite good, but not great. The tomato vodka sauce was a little heavy for the lobster and completely washed away the flavor. I literally wouldn't be able to tell if I was eating chicken vs. lobster because the sauce was so overpowering. I had the mini macaroons for desert which were delicious, but the portion was so small that I left craving something else sweet. In short, excellent music, so-so food, and pricey overall with $40 entrees and $40 cover for the music on the weekends. Would probably only return for the music. They play dinner-optional sets at 10:30PM and later if you are willing to wait.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday for brunch with a girlfriend, we loved the food and vibes! The singer had a great stage presence and we all clapped along with her during our meal. I noticed some other customers weren't even talking to each other during their meal because they were just too busy enjoying the music. I like that it was great even for families, some of the kids really enjoyed the show too. I'm seeing in some other reviews that people had to pay for the show and were required to spend a certain amount for their meal...was not the case for us, perhaps because it was brunch. About the food: * Free bread - the banana muffins weren't bad, but I really liked the brioche with whatever sauce was on it already + orange jam (the server called it a syrup...), but beware you might get too full * Chicken and waffles, $18.95 - I loved the syrup, but chicken was a bit too crispy. I also would have preferred other parts of the chicken with less bone so I didn't have to use my hands and could actually eat it with the waffle. At least the waffle was on point. * Smoked salmon, $16.95 - I like that the salmon wasn't smoked too much that it overwhelms you and the bagel wasn't crispy. Conveniently how I like it when my friend's preferences were opposite haha. Tasted great with the cream cheese and arugula salad. Only thing I did not like about our experience was getting the bill and being surprised by the $10 charge for still water. I think we had trouble understanding the server's accent when she asked us if we wanted water, and I noticed a couple other tables almost had the same thing happen to them. A good surprise was finishing the meal pretty quickly for a Sunday brunch because service was quick.

Yelp
NYC restaurant week (winter edition)has officially kicked off and me and friends gave this place a try. Well it really was my friends 25th birthday dinner, BUT what a great choice and change of scenery from the normal (brunch, HH, club etc.). We came for the 7pm show which was a great selection of Jazz performance. Great talent! We were a group of 13 and went for the restaurant week pre-fixe menu ($42pp not including tax/gratuity), which was a large selection. I can speak for most of the group everyone was satisfied with their meals. Minor con: -Lobster ravioli was a small portion -Pork chop lacked seasoning -Rose Sangria watered down Overall, great experience for trying something new and good deal. I would recommend for a chill date night. Being the live music it cuts conversation down to a minimum.

Yelp
Has this place come under new management? I was enjoying recent visits with dinner, even though as several here have written, the food wasn't terrific and was indeed pricey. My most recent visit of 4 days ago however was really disappointing. There is now a slick waitstaff of no one I recognized and gone is the previous jazz club/bar ambiance. Dinner is rushed to your table moments after you have placed your order so you are no longer allowed to linger over a cocktail if in fact your drink has even arrived beforehand. The other nicer aspect which has been yanked was the ability to arrive when you chose before a show started. You are now slotted in at a specific time of entrance and there are only so many slots allowed per time frame so if a time is fully booked, you are forced to come far earlier than originally planned. And time has been shaved off of the set to get people in and out. So I guess some young MBA type decided that they knew how to make things more profitable and upscale á la the Cafe Carlyle. Great for the coffers of the establishment, lousy for those of us who were neighborhood regulars

Yelp
Really great food and atmoshpere. The live Jazz music is awesome. They have a really good restaurant week deal. Big menu with lots of choices and no cover mon-thurs. I came here for restaraunt week and definitely want to come back again. Went on a Wednesday night at 830 and it was packed, had a reservation so it was fine. The jazz singer was amazing and so was the band. I got the fried oysters appetizer which is small but delicious. And the salmon for dinner which was surprisingly filling. My friend got the short ribs, wish I got that- I stole a bite and it was so succulent and rich. The desserts are very sweet. The cheesecake is fluffy and had a hint of vanilla which I like and had a nutella center. The peanut butter chocolate pie is more like a giant reeses peanut butter cup. It was very rich and sweet and between me and my friend we only ate half of it. Great experience I recommend!!!

Yelp
Wonderful to enjoy live music AND to have a great meal at the same time too! We had low expectations for the food as were there for the music, but the tenderloin was perfectly prepared as was the salmon dish ordered by another member of our family. Really lovely ambience and we were grateful to get a table for four at the back of the room where the music wasn't quite so loud. Will be back next time we're in NYC!

Yelp
Honestly and truly, Smoke Jazz is awesome. I've heard so many wonderful things about Smoke Jazz and I've been trying to get there for at least the past two years. For some reason or another, I could seem to get there but that's where NYC restaurant week comes in. Btw... If you haven't taken advantage of NYC restaurant week, boy oh boy are you missing out. Now back to Smoke Jazz, as I mentioned, restaurant week has made it possible for me to try several restaurants that I might not otherwise get to and Smoke Jazz is one of them. The restaurant is small and intimate but this amplifies the overall experience. Once the music begins, you really feel as if the musicians are playing just for you. There is not a bad seat in the house. If you arrive early, you should be able to request a table that works for you but of course, that would mean you plan to have dinner at a table and not the bar area. Don't get me wrong, the bar area is ok too. Keep in mind, there is a music/performance upcharge on your bill once the show is over. It's worth it. Before I get into the excitement food, let me take a moment to acknowledge the entire staff. Smoke Jazz operates like a well-oiled machine. I was very impressed with the efficiency of the whole operation. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and are willing to answer any questions. Now on to the food. I had the wedge salad and lobster ravioli. Incredible... Is one word that comes to mind. I even had the brownies for dessert and even that was delicious. Well, I'm sure your wondering by now, what about the music? Well, music is a form of art and up to interpretation and although I enjoyed the show and my entire experience at Smoke Jazz, let me take this moment to encourage you to stop reading this and make your reservation now! It's a magical night you will cherish for the rest of your life. Enjoy

Yelp
I really enjoyed this club. We came here to from out of town to celebrate a birthday! Pros: Intimate setting Good food Attentive staff Awesome musicians Reservations are easy on "open table" Use electronic devices to check you in and pay at your table with server. Cons: Cover on the weekends can get pricey Standing outside until your reservation time begins People talking/ quietness can be a little hard to handle FYI: Weekend cover is $40 with a $20 minimum and during the week it's $15. On Saturday at 11:30-12pm no cover but a $20 minimum. After set to stay for more music, you must pay the next cover.

Yelp
Smoke Let's start on a positive note, I love the look of this bar, it reminds you of a bar from back in the day. The music from the band was amazing to say the least. Me and my wife came here to eat as well and the food wasn't good at all--not even a little bit. The best part of the food was the dessert, only because it was pre-made some where else. I wouldn't take my worst enemy to this place. The first course had no flavor at all like it was done on purpose. Fried shrimp was made so poorly it hurt my soul because I really love food. Second course pork chop reminded me of high school free lunch in terms of breading and flavor . The best part of that was the salad, smh. Just come here for the music that's it.

Yelp
I've been here too many times to count over the years. My favorite shows have been when I was fortunate enough to have seen the Great Harold Mabern. The John Coltrane celebration around Christmas was always a must. But now, since Covid, their doors have been obviously shut. BUT!! They do live-streams every Friday and Saturday night at 8pm and you can find that information on their website or on Instaseats. Sign up for the emails and you'll get a weekly email about who's playing that week. Please support your local small businesses and local musicians! They need you! Also, the sound and visual quality of the streams is fantastic. (Yay, production team!) So, while I miss sitting at the end of the bar near the stage, I can still support one of my favorite NYC jazz institutions from my apartment. Thank you, Smoke for bringing us these wonderful live shows. I will see you again!

Yelp
Absolutely Great music, but terrible food. On the weekends it's $40 cover charge and each person must get an entree. Entrees are about $38 which I wouldn't mind if they tasted good but unfortunately they didn't. We got the shrimp cocktail which came with 4 shrimps (hehe) & this calamari could be like a $5 calamari from the cheapest restaurant. Ugh. Terrible. We had a 9pm show, were asked arrive at 8:30. We were told we must leave by 10. So for 1.5 hours we spent about $120 per person for terrible food. I would pay $40 for the show again, but the expensive food tasted so bad that I do not recommend this place. Unfortunately won't be coming here again & do Not recommend it. I really wanted to like it but nothing makes up for mandatory, bad, expensive food. Thumbs down!

Yelp
Superior audio and great videos (vastly better on both counts than than other of our favorite famous jazz venues broadcasting during COVID). The audio makes ALL the difference -- duh. Smoke has spent the money where it matters -- in the sound. Heard George Coleman and tonight George Cables. Outstanding. Thank you Smoke Great New Years present.

Yelp
Dinner and jazz at Smoke is a must do experience while visiting NYC. The staff was attentive, the entertainment was like no other and the price reasonable. My husband and I had a 7:30 reservation. We did the 3 course meal....great food. For the price it was a great value considering how expensive other restaurants are in NYC. We enjoyed the music so much we stayed for a second set. Excellent musicians!
