The Best Delis for Smoked Meat in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Nestled off Highway 20 in Île Perrot, west of Montreal, Smoke Meat Pete is well worth the trip. Founder Peter Varvaro worked alongside his father (also Peter Varvaro, who founded Main Deli) for two decades before starting his own venture. Many consider it among the best in town, and it has garnered a loyal following for its thick, tender, and well-spiced slabs of smoked meat." - JP Karwacki

First time here, from out of country. Recommended by a local friend, and I truly loved it. It was described as the best smoked meat, and it lived up to the expectation. Amazing smoked meat; good flavor, good texture, moist and tasty. Incredible ambience. Only down was I did not come on a night of live music which I saw the stage for. I really must come back to enjoy that, and especially get more smoked meat. I also enjoyed the poutine.

Google
What a place!! 100% worth it! Probably the best smoked meat I’ve had around Montreal. The service is great and incredibly fast, even when the restaurant is full. The ambiance and the look of the place are just perfect! I’d go there every week if it were closer to my place. They even have a big stage for shows. Loved it! Enjoy 😎

Google
Excellent pit stop for smoke meat and barbecue food. The smoke meat poutine was sublime. The ribs marinade was so delicious (though somewhat dry meat). The wait was about an hour in rush hour (2pm saturday), but was worth the wait. Ambience is really neat, I'm sure band nights must be great. Atmosphere gives me Nashville vibes. Will definitely return A+

Google
Got some nice smoked meats from smoke meat Pete. Ordered a couple of meats, my favorite being the smoked brisket poutine. The gravy with the meat and fries were pretty good. Other than that both the ribs and chicken was nice and tasty. The pickled vegetables were also a nice refreshing palate cleanser. Though it’s quite busy and took a while to get the food it was pretty tasty.

I am amazed at the experience we had! This restaurant is alive! We went for live music on Thursdays, and ordered some delicious smoked meat combos. There is no doubt in my mind that Pete's Smoked Meat is the best in Montreal! The atmosphere the food and experience was perfection!! Big shout out to Felicia for making our experience even more special. She's such a lovely lady and if you see her give her a hug for me!!

Google
The restaurant is great.. The atmosphere makes you feel comfortable.. The service is excellent.. The only drawback is that their prices are more expensive than similar quality restaurants in Montreal. In addition, they are stingy.. They do not offer free pickles with the smoked meat sandwich like other restaurants of similar classification and quality in Montreal.. There are at least three restaurants in Montreal with lower prices and the same quality, but they offer extra bread and pickles for free. Overall, it is worth a visit.

Google
A must visit for leaving or entering Montreal. Great smoked meet and fries, great coleslaw and poutines. Great for take out. Can get busy do get there early.

Google
Hey , montreal is known for really good food and really great culinary experience in many , many restaurants all over montreal. However Smoke Meat Pete is something that you will never forget. Located on very West end of Montreal on an Island L'Ile Perrot. Very simple , to get to on highway twenty going west towards toronto , very first light that you ever encounter right there on the left hand side on an island. Simple restaurant , nothing fancy yet offers great experience that I have never had anything like that before. First of all, the way you order food, it's nothing like I've seen before.I'm not gonna go into details. You will find out yourself. Second, at 4:30 PM on Sunday afternoon. It's not really dinner time yet.Yet ten minutes later after our arrival the place is super busy. Plenty of stuff to assist. You put a ride in fasthey're writing a fast method.Really? It's not a high-end restaurant. What matters is the smoke meats? They have it done to perfection iver the years. And then an hour or so later. We have a live band playing music.Bluees mostly. At 7 PM, all tables are takand mostly rather retired crowd.Listening to the band playing and they are people still flowing in to the access dining space that they have. Very , very unique experience , especially if you're not from montreal.

Yelp
I'm really surprised with myself that I didn't review this place after my previous visits. At this point it's a guaranteed stop coming to or even when leaving Montreal. Is the smoked meat better than Schwartz's? That's up for debate, but I'd say in quality it's about tied. From there it is a matter of taste, and if you want more pepper, you'll definitely prefer it here. Everything here is fantastic. I had roasted chicken on my recent visit and we loved it. Again, the pepper crust is almost a stapple here. I love the coleslaw here. They struck a balance between the vinaigrette and creamy approach. The potato salad is great and the fries are fresh cut. But here's what really stands out above all, and at this point I'm comparing to ANY bbq place are their beef ribs. They are possibly my favourite. Aside from being great quality and perfectly smoked, the BBQ sauce they use is unlike any other. It's darker and for a second almost reminds you of Teriyaki, but it's also quite different. It really is it's own thing. You can use that sauce on about any meat, but it really is magic with their ribs. Note: free ice cream cones for kids!

Yelp
Delicious smoked meat and fall-off-the-bone ribs! This place really knows how to do barbecue right. The smoked meat was flavorful and juicy, and the ribs were perfectly cooked, tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. The ambiance was just right, comfortable, laid-back, and with a great vibe whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. The staff were super friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. If you're craving quality BBQ with great service and a welcoming atmosphere, this place is a must-try! When in Montreal, the best we all can try. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Best place for smoke meat .. even tried the smoke meat spaghetti. Was great and priced reasonably

Yelp
Food is fine. However I'm an amputee in a wheelchair and their accessible restroom has been made inaccessible because it's filled with music equipment. When I informed the waitress her response was "Yeah sorry".

Yelp
About a half hour outside of Montreal. Figure out a way to come here. The sandwich was melt in your mouth fantastic. The poutine is excellent. The cheesecakes look great too. Wow just wow. The line moves quickly so don't worry if you arrive and there's a long line.
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first lunch stop as soon as we got to Quebec. We came here for the smoke sandwiches and poutines. The sandwich itself was okay, the meat is tender but it there wasn't much flavours to it. It was missing some salt or something. The poutine was pretty good. But we find it odd that the potatoes had a stevia after taste. Not sure if that's usual. The service was pretty quick once we ordered our food. But the line to the counter can be quite long. We waited about 30 minutes before we made our order. The place itself is like a retro place. It has a good amount of seating inside and outside.

Yelp
01/24/25 Smoke Meat Pete's is good company, great eats, and has an amazing atmosphere (it is a no BS place)! It's not a fancy restaurant, but has amazing food! The poutine was phenomenal, the spaghetti was amazing and the spoke meat was TO DIE FOR!! One thing to note is when their are live performances, it gets really loud so I wouldn't recommend going to Smoke Meat Pete's after 7pm with young children. Another thing to note is that there is no direct table service, so to order food you have to go to the ordering counter. Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 5

Tammy A.

Yelp
Yum yum yum yum GOOD FOOD. Best gravy I've ever had! Busy restaurant, can be intimidating when you first walk in (maybe that's just me though lol) but the food quality is SO worth it!

Yelp
If you're travelling from Montreal towards Ontario on the 20 and are feeling at all peckish, stop in at Smoke Meat Pete. The smoked meat sandwiches are very good and for us, is easier to get to than Schwartz's and easier for parking as well. It is indeed a casual restaurant where you order at a window, pay, collect your drinks and go off to find a table. There's Blues playing on the audio system and a stage for a live band. Of course at 2PM on a Wednesday there's no live entertainment. The staffer taking our order was patient, friendly, and even offered to help carry some of our drinks to our table. Food arrived quickly and clearly it all had just been prepared. The smoked meat was hot and very tasty. The fries out of the fryer are dark but clearly started as fresh cut. They really tasted of potatoes and that seem rare in these time when just about everyone seems to use factory made frozen. Pickle slices and coleslaw accompany the combo special in addition to a sandwich and a fountain drink. We ordered a vac packed full piece to bring home with us. Smoke Meat Pete's was a welcome stop on the way back to Toronto from Quebec City. However, next time I'm ignoring Waze and going around the city rather than crossing at the Champlain bridge and having to inch along the 20. bon apetit

Yelp
Well, I walked into a place that is full of vanity. I waited in lines, order my food , then told to wait outside. 25 min later I finaily got my box. 30.00 for a simple smoke meat. That's and the ver priced sandwich, which doesn't taste all that good. To me it was one big over the hill frat house. This guy " Pete" has more pics of himself on the walls. Wasn't impressed at all with the food or my time there. Oh! Clean up the fries and ice cream machine. It looked so bad. I'm glad I wasted 30.00 for a crappy meal. Never again.

Eal L.

Yelp
Food is good unfortunately the people working there and serving are not the brightest instead of correcting their mistakes they turn arrogant.

Yelp
If you're not a native Montrealer, you have to try smoked meat while you're in town! There are several places to have smoked meat in and around Montreal but Smoke Meat Pete's is definitely one of the more popular spots (and for good reason). Service is incredibly fast and (mostly) pleasant. It's a busy place so I wouldn't want to be too hard on the servers. I've had the smoked meat several times before and it's always amazing. My most recent experience involved me trying something new- a smoke meat pasta (it's DELICIOUS). Depending on how many people are dining, be prepared to spend a pretty penny. Just keep in mind how they pile each sandwich a mile-high with meat, and portion sizes of non-smoke meat dish are also quite large. Overall, it's a great spot for a "vacation" dinner or for grabbing a bite with friends.

Yelp
I grew up in the 1980s in Montreal. Smoked Meat sandwiches are an institution. Hallowed places like Schwartz still operate but many have closed. Don't fear. The traditional Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich is still available as authentic as ever at Smoke Meat Pete's. Stop by on your way to Montreal from Ontario. This is a must try. Go on a Friday night for smoked meat and live blues. Totally Montreal experience. Can't beat Pete's meat!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Smoke Meat Pete was the perfect place to highlight this milestone. A relaxed, casual, cafeteria style deli, serving wonderful, lean and juicy, thick cut slices of smoked meat that were among some of the best we've had and with Pete's (Varvaro) historic background that's no surprise at all. But, that's not all the île-Perrot institution is great at. A poutine worthy of the name, some truly mouth-watering sides and delicious ribs are just more reasons to revisit. They also have a very interesting house beer : "Pete's Kick-Ass Brew" which is just that. The live blues bands complete the lively, fun atmosphere and spectucular, freindly, quick service with the kitchen busting out orders at an almost impossibly fast rate, add to an already marvellous time. This dying breed of restaurant experience is a must try and definitely worth the drive out to L'île-Perrot. You can't beat Pete's meat! (we need to go back and buy that shirt... They ran out )

Yelp
Got to meet the famous Pete tonight! Best smoke meat in the world! Dinner at the restaurant with amazing live band! Brought 2 slabs of the gorgeous pieces home to Toronto! Can't wait to come back! You rock Pete! You must eat here everyone!

Cheryl D.

Yelp
Great food! Awesome ambiance!! Can't wait to come back for more and catch the live music. I am so psyched to find this place and so close to the airport! I had the poutine with smoked meat and my friend had the smoked meat sandwich. Both were delicious!!

Nathalee C.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!!! Staff is so sweet. Food is delicious. The wait is long but that's because it's so good. We got to see a live band while we waited. Get one of everything!!!

Alan H.

Yelp
It was my first time and I was a bit skeptical at first. There was a live performance there which was enjoyable. The food was not bad. I'd consider going back again.

Jim B.

Yelp
I always take out.Guessing four times.Ive bought their product which was vacuum packed at Provigo for $19:9@ .Now it's.$29:99.Ps ..It was good!!Now it is out of my price range so I stopped buying it.My point is,your take out from your restaurant and packing product is really expensive.I know you get what you pay for,but it's getting to be unaffordable even on an occasion basis.Too bad!!

Yelp
If you're driving in from Toronto or driving to Toronto, consider stopping by Smoke Meat Pete to grab a quick bite. It's a busy lunchtime spot, but the tables turn quick so it wasn't a long wait, plus they offered samples when in line. Pete's Special comes with a smoked meat sandwich, fries and a fountain drink. The spices in the smoked meat really come through, but it's still too salty for my taste. The sandwich is a big one and fresh fries were really good too.

A K.

Yelp
This is THE BEST Montreal Smoked meat available. Schwartz's has gone way down hill. Pete has the perfect flavor and most importantly texture a perfect buttery crumble perfect balance of spice. Always consistent fries are the way they should be. 100% worth the drive to isle parrot.

Yelp
We walked in at 11:30 one weekday. A few people lined up at the order window. But the music was so loud, it wasn't possible to talk without leaning into someone's ear. I told an employee that we intend to sit down and eat, but the music was way top loud, could they lower the volume? The response: "this is how the owner wants it, we cannot lower the volume." We walked out, truly no regard at all for customers comfort. I hear that the smoked meat is great. I guess I'll never know?
google avatar

Bobby A.

Yelp
Pretty good smoked meat. Ever since Schwartz's was sold to Celine Dion, that place had taken a nosedive in quality and I think Smoked MeT Pete's is probably the best smoked meat in Montreal now. We stopped here on our way home one evening and there was practically no one there at the time but you could see that there was a space where a band had been setting up, If you like Jewish deli foods like knishes and latkes along with smoked meat, you can buy them here for take out as well.
google avatar

Patricia S.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, this place is amazing!!! Apparently, their smoked meat is better than Schwartz's (now that's a high bar) so I was on board to test that claim. It's a rustic little place that attracts bikers and local folks alike. It's located right behind one of the original Dairy Queens and their sign is easy to see at night (see photo below). When you walk in, you'll be in a vestibule area that was created during COVID for take-out, but is now an overflow space when the restaurant gets full or the live music gets too loud. Once you go into the restaurant itself you stand in line to order and pay. They even have Spruce Beer!!!! Big selling point for us native Montrealers. I ordered their Smoked Meat Spaghetti and was not disappointed. They put lots of smoked meat in the sauce and there was enough to have for lunch the next day. My nephew and his wife had the basic smoked meat sandwich and fries - all of which was gobbled up in no time. Their fries are pretty darn good, too.

Yelp
Smoke Meat Pete is a must try when you visit Montreal. By its name smoke meat is just awesome. Their bbq ribs is just fantastic. Will visit again next time. Highly recommended.

Yelp
(Visited 12/9/2019.) So smoked meat is a HUGE thing here in Montréal. Schwartz's is the big name downtown, but what about other competition? Especially since Schwartz's is cash-only, I HATE cash-only places. I looked up some more places that are known for their smoked meat and I found this place. It was about a 25 minute drive out of downtown to get here, but it was totally worth it and here's why. Atmosphere/Appearance: Away from the city life seems to slow down just a bit. This place is a stand-alone restaurant with it's own private parking lot and looks like a big ol' house. It speaks to the kind of family-like experience you're going to have here. Once up the wooden steps you walk in and are greeted by the ordering counter. The menus are up above for you to gaze at before placing your order. Once your order is placed you go sit down and your food is brought to you. Like I mentioned earlier, this place is like a big house. The dining room is basically a giant living room with tables all pointing toward the stage. Yes, stage and there was a live music performance today! They have live music every Monday. That's awesome. Service: There isn't much service since you go place your order then go sit down, but everyone was very nice and I had everything I needed. Food: So I went with the "Jumbo Special" which comes with the sandwich of course, a pickle spear, coleslaw and mashed potatoes. Well, you get to choose other sides, but I chose those. Lol. Everything was very, very good and certainly worth the drive out here. Value: (All prices in $CAD.) The Jumbo Special was only $18.85 and that's a great deal for all of the food that you get for sure. In conclusion, if you're looking to not spend cash, dine in a much larger establishment, not be rushed out after eating, see live music, not hunt for a parking spot AND just feel more at home... eat here. Lol.

Yelp
hours were not updated. came by to find a sign on the front door saying the restaurant is closed for vacation. we had a sliver of hope when we heard music playing in the parking lot, but the restaurant was very much closed :( until next time, i guess.

Yelp
A restaurant with a very unique vibe! A very cozy and rustic style ambiance, and there is a live band playing blues in the evening. For food, we got the Pete's Special (17.22$) and the large Italian Poutine (14.25$). The Pete's Special comes with a smoked meat sandwich, fries, coleslaw, dill and a fountain drink of choice. The sandwich was great and the smoked meat had good flavor. The fries were super crispy and tasted fresh. The coleslaw tasted different yet really great. I recommend the Special! The poutine was also good, but quite ordinary. We went in the evening around 6 and it was quite busy at that time. There was a lineup to order and pay (you order and pay for your meal first at the counter, before taking a seat). Fortunately, we found a spot to sit and our food came in under 5 min after we ordered. Overall, I recommend if you want a restaurant with a rustic vibe, live music and good smoked meat!

Yelp
Not a fancy place but great smoked meat. Always full and a must try. No need to go to the other well known place in Montreal.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Their smoked meat sandwich has a well deserved reputation for greatness. Juicy, tender and flavorful. I loved it. My only mistake was to also order the ribs, which were good, but the sandwich was by far the best. They also offer takeout which is packed properly for a flight. Glad I visited and I'll be back!

Neil H.

Yelp
Rang the bell for service. Got the Pete's special. A sandwich, fries, coleslaw and drink. The sandwich was on rye bread but the meat, which first appeared to be a healthy portion turned out to be about two thirds fat. The meat was more like a corn beef cooked in the oven. No smoke flavor and just way too fatty. Fries good. Coleslaw was a vinegar base and nice. My expectations were too high for the place. Big disappointment. Not again for me.

Yelp
I really want to give it a 5 stars so Badly but the service was rushed and the cashier was just very rude and didn't care about me at all! She looked like she was having a bad day ..bope... Atmosphere: it's a cool country feel with lots of Wood everywhere I like it a lot! The concept is a bit confusing .. as you don't get served a menu at the table it's like a cantine you order your meal at the front cash .. you pay and you cary your food to the table The Tables were all full and packed it was difficult to get myself a chair so I just decided to order for take out. The wait was long about 20 min .. there was a long line after me so thankfully I was first in line to order as I totally created a rush aha Food: 5+++++ they jammmmeddd packed my special smoke meat sandwich the cut was exactly how I liked it and it was Deeeeelicious fresh and the portion was huge .. my husband's club roll as well was jammed with Smoke meat the way it's traditionally made! Chop liver was amazing and delicious fresh indeed The food here is to die for and the prices are super reasonable Service : not too happy as the lady gave me some serious attitude geeez lady you don't have to be so rude! I hardly give anyone a hard time I don't understand why some people are so rude oh well Overall definitely recommend this place as the food and the portions are massive and totally worth the drive thankfully I live very nearby now so will try again and hope the service is a bit better next time!

Yelp
I moved to l'ile perrot nearly 20 years ago. Smoke meat Pete's has consistently been amazing. The food is incredible, portions generous, and the staff is delightful. The music is loud but is always good. They offered phenomenal and safe service during the pandemic. They've expanded creating even more seats. Smoke meat Pete's is so iconic that when people ask me where I live in L'ile Perrot, i say near smoke meat Petes and they either know where it is, or ask me to bring them some.

Yelp
Locals will tell you this place has the BEST smoked meat sandwich. //Atmosphere// It's got a casual cabin-like interior, outdoor seating, and a stage that plays live Blues music every day at 6pm. The line-up to order moves quickly and don't expect much customer service besides them bringing the meal to your table. The screens showing the menu items to order was really CONFUSING to read...there were so many disorganized options on the screens, printed boards, and it was constantly flashing from English to French. //The food// We ordered the SMOKED MEAT SANDWICH ($10.45 just by itself). It was hard to tell what the meat was, but it was FANTASTIC! Some slices had a bit more fat so it simply melted in your mouth. I tasted the juicy meaty flavour with some sweetness and peppercorn! Add a touch more mustard to really highlight the savouriness. PETE'S SPECIAL ($14.35) was the same smoked sandwich with the side of coleslaw, pickle, and your choice of potatoes. Our fries were perfection. It was crispy on the edges, had an INCREDIBLE potato flavour, and a bit of a unique sweetness. The coleslaw was not done with mayo, which I actually liked! //Overall// I really enjoyed trying an authentic Montreal-style Smoked meat Sandwich here. It's wildly popular amongst the locals and with prices & quality comparable to the dtown touristy joints like Schwartz, I would consider coming here instead!

Yelp
Great smoke meat spot for all to enjoy. Choose from lean, medium or full fat for the smoke meat. Fries are delicious . Has ribs and chicken dishes as well.

Yelp
Heard about this iconic place from my cousin. He said it was some of the best around Montreal. Technically this place is about 30 minutes from Montreal. But it's worth the drive. Place can get full so be prepared to wait if you come on a weekend or during lunch hour. We tried a lot of the menu. The smoked meat sandwich , smoked meat spaghetti , smoked meat poutine and a rack of bbq ribs. Their smoked meat is some of the best around. However I would advise getting it on the poutine or in spaghetti. The smoked meat was cooked extra on those dishes and came out drier. So I would recommend getting the poutine and smoked meat separately and place the smoked meat on top of poutine. The bbq ribs were tasty and moist. I would definitely come back next time I'm in the area. Service was good and there's plenty of parking.

Serge L.

Yelp
Great smoked meat. Haven't tried the spaghetti yet. Looking forward to it. Present problem is the traffic.

Yelp
Not fresh as before too expensive also not interesting I will not recommend We use to eat well and not expensive

Yelp
I've lived in montreal for 7 years now, and finally I've been to my first smoked meat place...and it wasn't Schwartz! But honestly, no regrets, this was very good and much closer too (I'm in ste anne de bellevue). This place has been on my radar for a while and I finally got a chance to go. The vibe of the place is really like a pub or bar, dim weird lighting, and definitely gets crowded (especially on live music nights). Not the most comfortable but youre there for the food. there isn't really a sit down ordering thing, you basically do your best to find a table, seat yourself, then stand in line to order and pay immediately. The waitress will bring your food to you though. The food isn't cheap but it's a pretty sizeable amount. We were extra hungry though so we also got some chicken wings. I wasn't a huge fan of those and they weirdly came with honey?? Not something I will try again, and super messy also. But the smoked meat platter was very good, and fries were tasty too. I also do with the poutine came with bigger chunks of smoked meat and not just little crumbs. I love that they have live music! The performers were great, though the music was monstrously loud (but they did turn it down after some people requested it).

Steve L.

Yelp
I had lunch here today. Love the crispness of their fries and the quality of the smoked meat is very good. I consider myself a bit of a smoked meat connoisseur and after Abie's closed on the West Island this is my goto for bringing smoked meat back to Ottawa. Sort of..... Because I stop here on my way out of town and order 2 lbs of medium and maybe some other sides. But I am not even at the Quebwc/Ontario border and I have picked at the meat so much I probably finish off a pound. It's yummy. They have plenty of good blues music in the evenings but I rarely am there late to enjoy it. One day. Service is quick with an order at the window and they bring it out to your table. Tres bien. My only gripe is lack of customizing your plates. Otherwise they rock it.

Shamuel P.

Yelp
Good food , Good place Ambiance the best. I never taste something so good the waiters are so nice ready to help you Anytime. Meat Plate

Deborah F.

Yelp
Let's call it Smoke Meat Pukes Bad food, bad service, bad prices. I can't say enough to express my disappointment when I went with friends to this well spoken- of restaurant. Never have I been more embarrassed to have chosen a place. We were treated like cattle and the food was terrible. The waitresses were rude and the overpriced food was lousy. Not what I had expected. I will never return!
google avatar

Noel P.

Yelp
Damn awesome! A pretty substantial line up for take out, they whipped through it rather fast. So the wait was not cumbersome thankfully. And patrons we're communicating and pleasant in the line. Not something I would be accustomed to in Ontario. The only unfortunate thing I found was you cannot upgrade your fries to a poutine with the combo plate. So a beverage, sandwich and poutine all need to be ordered seperate making the meal slightly more costly. They do smoked meat right. I didn't not ask for spicy mustard, so I do know if it is available. The poutine was the right amount of gooey. All in all an excellent lunch stop on your way in or out of Montreal. Location looks like a quaint house, a nice sunroom where you wait for your take out. Which arrived surprisingly fast. And the decor is roadhouse rustic. Will make this a stop when passing through the province
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
First time there and it won't be my last :) Smoke meat and stuffed chicken sandwiches were on point. Homemade coleslaw and potato salad left me wanting more! A bit pricey but was worth it. Was takeout only and a dozen people ahead of us in line to order but line moved. After had to wait 5-10 minutes for them to prepare food. That was fine.

Yelp
Alright, I get it why people love this place. First off, the smoke meat is absolutely delicious. It's flavorful, tender, and juicy. Then, the fries are thick cut and perfectly made. Also, they have a fantastic homemade coleslaw where tangy, sour, and sweet flavors are balanced. There is plenty of space to sit outside, which may be especially important during Covid-19. I took off one star because the price threw me off. It was almost $40 for two combos. The sandwich was normal size and there weren't many fries. For that price, they could at least be generous with the portions! If you take the sandwich ONLY, it comes up to $15 with taxes! A little much, don't you think?

Yelp
Awesome smoke meat! We also bought a sealed piece of meat and ate it a few months later after keeping it refrigerated: it was perfect still!

Yelp
I know everyone had their opinions on the best smoked meat. For me, smoked meat Pete beats out all the competition. This is a family business and it's one of a kind. It's also the only smoked meat in Montreal that is gluten free. Their smoked meat is amazing. Their medium cut is not too fatty, it's juicy and flavorful. Their sandwich has the right amount of mustard and comes with all the trimmings. They also make an awesome smoked turkey sandwich, I'd recommend asking for a hot sandwich with half mayo, half mustard. They also smoke their own ribs but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. They make their own desserts, which usually consists of pie or cheesecake. They do takeout or dine-in. In normal times you order at the counter, they give you a number and find yourself a seat. Food comes to your table. They serve beer and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings they have live blues music! Currently the interior of the restaurant is closed but you can eat outside on picnic tables. Each time I go, I always buy their 1lb vacuum packed smoked meat to make at home. It keeps in the fridge for about a week and the. Just have to boil the package for 8 min. I even buy a loaf of rye bread from them, its less expensive than the grocery store. Love smoked meat Pete, it's truly one of a kind in MTL!

Yelp
Wow, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this was so disappointing. I don't understand the rave reviews. I ordered a half rack which came with fries, 3 slices of bread, pickles, and an appetizer of a hot dog and a slice of grilled liver. I assume it's beef liver. Putting aside regional tastes in those selections, the ribs are the star of the show (or so you would assume). First, they were definitely not smoked. Period. They were steamed then grilled and then sauced. It was fight-off-the-bone, not fall-off. There was no red ring from the smoker. The flap side of the ribs (they aren't St Louis style) was so tough it was inedible yet the entire rack was strangely wet. I did enjoy the atmosphere and the service but if you're going to call yourself a smokehouse, well, you better have a smoker.

Yelp
You can't beat petes meat !! Decided to stop off on New Year's Eve for a quick smoked meat and back on the road. They decorated with lots of Xmas decorations so that's a huge plus ! Great family atmosphere going on, the stage is always rocking with great blues. They were prepping for their New Years party and the owner even stopped to invite us very sweet but we already had plans :) So to order they don't come to your table you gotta go to the counter and place your order and pay and then you can pick a nice wooden table to sit at. They added on a new part im pretty sure but I also haven't been in ages. What you're gonna want is the smoked meat with fries pickle and coleslaw. So good. If you want Lean it's 3 dollars more but so be it that's how I like my meat lol. They give you as a starter a hot dog with liver and bread coleslaw and butter. The ribs which I never had before were super sweet and tender packed with flavour! I would suggest those ribs to Anyone.
