The Ultimate Texas BBQ Road Trip | Eater

"Never a city content to leave any culinary bragging rights to its brothers to the north, San Antonio’s barbecue scene has exploded in recent years. One fine example is Smoke Shack, a well-loved pit stop that isn’t afraid to smother a little southern love along with its meats. Go beyond the typical meat plate and get yourself some Frito Pie, Smoke Shack Mac, or a Brisket Grilled Cheese. Because what goes better with brisket than some decadent oozy cheese? Your visit to Smoke Shack doesn’t have to end when you leave, either. Bring some meat (or a sandwich, prepared meal, or charcuterie) home from the Smoke Shack Meat Market." - Cynthia Drake

We stopped by Smoke Shack BBQ and ordered the 3-meat platter with brisket, sausage, and pulled pork — and it did not disappoint. The brisket was tender with a perfect smoky bark, the sausage was juicy and packed with flavor, and the pulled pork had that delicious crispy edge from the smoker. For sides, we went with green beans, black-eyed peas with ham, and their vinegar slaw — each one a solid complement to the meats. The green beans had a home-style comfort to them, the peas were hearty and seasoned just right, and the slaw brought a tangy crunch that helped balance out the richness of the plate. Topped it all off with a soft roll and a cold Topo Chico. Cozy, casual atmosphere and a great meal overall. Would definitely come back for another round of brisket and sausage!

We had an amazing experience at this BBQ spot! We tried the brisket, ribs, and red meat sausages, paired with spicy corn salad, potato salad, and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese, mixed with small pieces of brisket, was a standout. The ribs were smoked to perfect tenderness, and the brisket was excellent—flavorful, juicy, and just the right texture. The sides were solid; the mac and cheese was great, though the potato salad could be better. Plenty of parking, ample seating for large groups, and they accommodate big to-go orders. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive, making the experience even better. Highly recommend for any BBQ lover!

Google
Yummy bbq a bit dry and maybe not as fresh as it could have been but tasted great. Loved the Mac and cheese and okra!! Got take out as we weren't able to dine in today- online ordering was easy and convenient.

Google
Waited way too long to Shack up! Really friendly and attentive service throughout our meal. Brisket was moist and tender, great bark. Ribs even better, firm but most, with a sweetish spice to the bark. Definitely Southern black eyes and excellent pickles! Cole slaw was a surprise with feta in it, just not my thing. Overall excellent for metro Q!

Google
Stopped by for some BBQ and was impressed with the brisket and ribs — both were tender, smoky, and full of flavor. The meat was definitely the highlight of the meal and lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, the sides didn’t quite hold up. The mac and cheese and cream corn, which came highly recommended, were both underwhelming — dry and lacking the bold flavor you’d expect alongside such solid BBQ.

Google
My daughter order the pulled pork slider with 2 sides. She wanted baked beans but they were out of they were also out of friend okra. So she got seasoned fries and mac n’ cheese. She said the fries were well seasoned. The sandwich was good. The Mac n’ Cheese was ok. It’s made with sausage and pork in it.

I will freaking dream about this place going back to California..I've been all around the country and hands down this is the best BBQ I have ever had. The Brisket melts in your mouth. The ribs fall off the bone. The Mac and Cheese is a dream and the potato salad is Heaven. The service was amazing. Go in very hungry. You are going to leave super full. I'm taking home BBQ sauce for my family..

Google
Great sides, the grilled cheese brisket sandwich was awesome, chicken tenders were great. Tea and lemonade... so good. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Wow! I wanted some good Texas barbecue, and I found it! This place was listed on several list one of if not the best barbecue in San Antonio. Service was phenomenal as was the food. I got brisket, ribs, with sides of jalapeño cream, corn, and fried okra. The brisket was some of the most moist I've ever had, the flavor was just OK. The ribs were phenomenal and the sides absolutely perfect. I really love that jalapeño cream corn. Absolutely amazing barbecue in San Antonio!

Yelp
After seeing reviews on both yelp and google me and wife decided to try this place while visiting San Antonio. We were very impressed with the several place we tried in Austin so figured San Antonio would be close. The wife got the quarter chicken with cream corn. I got the brisket and turkey with mac and cheese and fries. Both my brisket and turkey were dry. And we got there right at opening not at end of day. Mac and fries were ok. Wife's chicken a little better but not great by any means. Cream corn also ok. This bbq place is low mid in my opinion. Equivalent to the bbq joint on the strip in Vegas not what I think of when I hear Texas bbq or any real smoke bbq joint. More like a tourist spot. Very disappointing.

Yelp
I've been here a few years ago but it didn't leave a lasting impression so I gave it another try today for lunch. The BBQ is average at best. I understand that Texas BBQ can vastly change in opinion but for me, it's just OK. The brisket, although moist, lacks that special flavor that would bring me back again and again. The chicken is nothing spectacular and is also about average. The BBQ sauce did not impress nor did the pinto beans or corn. With that said, I would say it's fine if you need a quick bite to eat as it's a better option than Bill Millers down the street but not by much, sorry. The inside is smoky, which can be a good sign but all in all, not worth smelling like a pit for the rest of the day. The parking lot is small as many places on Broadway so don't expect to park close when busy. Luckily, the staff is friendly and does give you a Texas welcome and smile. On to the next one ........

Yelp
3.25/5 food. Best meat was ribs followed by brisket. Pulled pork really lacking flavor. Overall, not much smoke flavor. Sides were just ok. Bbq sauce is tomato chunkey style and just not balanced overall , not my style. Good value overall can feed 2 for $25.

Yelp
Have been to this location several times, and it's honestly just so good for a weeknight dinner with the family. The staff is friendly & helpful, the food never misses, and it's overall just a cute little place. I've never had anything that I didn't enjoy here.

Yelp
The Smoke Shack is one of my favorite BBQ places in San Antonio! My family was in town for the holidays and they ofcourse wanted to get some authentic Texas BBQ, so immediately thought of The Smoke Shack. I highly recommend you getting here when they open so you can get their full menu. For my last visit I got a plate with brisket and their jalapeno cheese sausage with a side of fries and green beans. The brisket was super juicy and tender. The sausage was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Their green beans are always on point and are some of my favorite in town. The fries were also amazing and I have no idea what they use in their seasoning, but are freaking addicting. The service was also amazing, and the staff kept checking on us making sure we didn't need anything. Frankly, I've never had a bad experience at The Smoke Shack on all my years coming here. This is most definitely a must for anyone visiting town!

Yelp
Came here after local recommendations. Brisket sandwich was a 7/10 but the frito pie was a 10/10! Mac and cheese was also delicious. Service was fast and food came out quick.

Yelp
Okay so craving BBQ.... and this place is down the block and we'll always support local. Me and roommate needed some good brisket and mac n cheese and this place did not disappoint, we both got 2 meat BBQ plate meal and we got potato salad + mac n cheeze + brisket. so so so juicy meat was melting in my mouth..... needed that. also it is a lot of food but i would say it's 44$ for 2 and drinks... those homemade sweet tea and lemonade was just amazing only thing thats free refill, so i had like 4 Arnold Palmer's. Service everyone was so nice and really cared what we wanted to eat and try. Very clean and cozy, def not a huge location but parking was not the biggest but we luckily found a spot. def will be our go to spot for BBQ recommend but maybe go for the sandwiches for more affordable options !!
google avatar

Yelp
This is good BBQ. Are there better spots in SA? Absolutely, but for location and quality, Smoke Shack is a solid go-to. The drink selection is limited to cans and bottles, except for tea, lemonade and tap water. Food is a bit pricey for sure but IMO the quality compensates. The mac n' cheese is fantastic, but the slaw is too vinegary for my taste. Lean brisket was def lean but not dried out. Ribs were really good and I'd probably get a full rack next time. Condiments bar is sliced pickled jalepenos, sliced pickles and sliced onions. Parking isn't big but there's street parking also. Staff is friendly, serve quick and food is solid. Would def go again.

Yelp
We came here on a day that was a holiday (not the major ones) and it was crazy busy. The staff helped us out when ordering as they had a daily special to try. Once ordering and sitting down, there is pickles, BBQ sauce and utensils to use in a designated location, which was helpful. The interior was a classic bbq spot which is always the best. Now, once the food came out it looked very appealing. The stuffed sandwich was the star of the show as a daily special! Crazy talk huh. I had always heard good things about the brisket sando so I had to try; well, it was a let down. There was not a lot of brisket inside of it, above that, it was super dry. I had to drench it in bbq sauce to make it better. Now that Mac daddy sando we had was way better, the brisket was dry there too, but everything else on it, made up for it. For price it wasn't bad, just not fully lived to the hype.
google avatar

Yelp
The sides were really good (seasoned fries and creamy corn) but the brisket was tasteless and extremely dry. Stay away from the brisket it doesn't represent Texas Brisket at all. The two waitresses were great!!
google avatar

Yelp
On the Texas bbq tour on my first time in Texas. This place did not disappoint. Staff was friendly did family style tried a bit of everything.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Wednesday around 1pm. The parking lot is tiny, maybe 10 spaces. One additional for blue placard holders, and two for togo order pickups. No real street parking. If you want to eat in, after you arrive, you order and pay at the second counter, sit and then they bring you your food. Service was quick, place was clean, mom and pop homey feel. I didn't count but the place seats about 30. With the inner table reserved for larger parties. Smart move. We order the two meat combo plate (baby back ribs, brisket, coleslaw and green beans. Reasonably priced. The brisket was very tender, juicy and flavorful. the ribs were also tender, juicy and flavor; they were also fall off the bone and finger licking good. So, so yummy. The coleslaw was not the sweet mayo type but more of the sour vinegar type and the long cooked beans were flavorful but a bit mushy for my taste. We were please with this meal. We do recommend and would come back.

Yelp
Food: 3* Service: 3* Ambience: 3* Upon recommendations from a few locals, I stopped by here to have dinner. I ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket and jalapeños sausage, with potato salad, spicy corn and sweet tea. The brisket was good, not great. Actually a little dry (and I got the marbeled variety, which should be impossible). The bbq sauce on the side tasted like KC Masterpeice with white vinegar and white sugar added. Jalapeño sausage was ok, but not spicy and just ok. The potato salad was fantastic, bits of shredded cheese, a Lille Smokey, not overly mayonnaisey nor dry. It was delicious. I would return just for the potato salad. The corn was good, not really spicy nor memorable. The sweet tea was very sweet and not properly mixed as it was crunchy with white sugar regardless of how many times I replenished. I would try somewhere else next time.

Yelp
The food was delicious! I love a good BBQ and this hit the spot! I still dream about the Mac n cheese every day and wish this was closer to home!
google avatar

Yelp
It's always nice to be greeted upon entrance and guided to the right place. I just split a plate with the hungry man and tried a little bit of everything. We switched out the very vinegary (and blue cheese? Goat cheese?) coleslaw for potato salad which was very good. I also liked the cream corn which is tasty, not so much spicy. The meats were also good. Prices were reasonable. It's a great location if you're by the zoo, park, or heading home on Broadway. They could use some music, but it was clean and I'd go back if I were in the area looking for bbq.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
We got Smoke Shack to go for lunch and it was quick and delicious! I got the chopped brisket sandwich and fried okra and they were both yummy. It comes with pickles and onions and bbq sauce on the side and hit the spot! The sweet tea was great too- recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Good not great. The burnt ends were tender for burnt ends, but salt was the main seasoning. Not bad, just not a full flavor. The jalapeño sausage was way more cheese than pepper, hardly any heat. That was disappointing. Speaking of heat, the spicy creamed corn was not spicy at all. It needed hot sauce, jalapeños, and even a dash of salt to make it better. They pulled the greens off the menu and didn't update their website, which was also disappointing as I wanted to order those. I wish I could tell you how the pickles were, but they didn't have any of those either. And this is not one of those places that are "till gone." The mac & cheese was really good though. Excellent cheese sauce and it has a little brisket and a lotta sausage in it.

Yelp
Super friendly service! Sides made in-house - makes all of the difference. Fantastic Vinegar Slaw, creamy/dreamy Mac & Cheese, dill pickles, and more! Next time I'll try the Potato Salad and Okra. Brisket was yummy! Pork was tender. Iced Tea Bar - unsweet, sweet, lemonade - mix and match to your heart's content. Ambiance is fun and casual - shared a table with a stranger and had a lovely conversation. This was an excellent lunch.

Yelp
The. Brisket. Grilled. Cheese! Guy F on DDD was right about this place. The okra and Mac and cheese were delish! We went to the Pig Pen after eating and had a relaxing time having a drink and listening to music

Yelp
Smoke Shack has THE best chicken tenders in the entirety of San Antonio! Now what's even better is...they are actually equally as good at their airport location! Yes, it's also the best Frito pie in town. But one thing you can always count on in airports is, the food will NOT be good! And the service will be subpar! Not the case with Smoke Shack at the San Antonio airport,. The food and the service is consistently exemplary. David is awesome! It's great when you can typically count on the same staff members serving you in an airport location. This place is a fabulous anomaly!!
google avatar

Yelp
When you drive up to an establishment and there's a line outside, you know it is good! This place did not disappoint. I highly recommend The Smoke Shack. This was my first visit to this place and I was delighted. 5/5 Customer Service - Long line, no problem. They have a cool waiting area or you can enjoy the sunshine. 5/5 Taste - The brisket was juicy and seasoned, the fried okra was crisp and firm, and the spicy corn was not too spicy. It has a good flavor. 5/5 Quality - Portions are plentiful, so come hungry. All of the food I was served was fresh and hot. Just how I like it. I will definitely be back. Shout out to employee Dale S. for making this a fantastic experience.

Yelp
Excellent pork ribs and marbled brisket. The spicy Corn wasn't for me. Potato salad was ok. Would definitely go back to try some other things. Service was fine but with most restaurants these days I'm sick of the tipping requests. Let's be real, he took my order, someone in the back put it on the tray and brought it to the table. I dumped my tray when finished. Not sure it was even worth 15% of the total. As far as the restaurant it was nice and clean.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
First impression is the friendly service at the front desk. The guy hands you a menu for you to look through and you place your order at the register. The young lady at the register is also impressively friendly. The sauce here seems to be homemade and on the sweet side. The BBQ brisket however is a bit too dry even though I ordered it marbled. The ribs are perfectly moist and flavorful the meats are also a bit too cold almost like a room temp cold cut. The self-serve pickle, onion, and jalapeno station is very good. Enough room to accommodate a large family. Bathroom is 9/10 clean.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
I was not super impressed sadly. But with the caveat I went later in the day and they were out of many items. I had brisket and sausage sliders that were just ok. Brisket mac n cheese I liked a lot. Creamed corn was fine. I usually like pulled pork and they were out so hard to judge them based on my BBQ preferences. My expectations were high being Texas, recommended by a friend, and great reviews. Maybe an off day?
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Definitely had to check out some BBQ while we were out in Texas and this place is amazing! The inside is super spacious and the staff is super friendly. The food also comes out pretty fast after ordering. This place had everything I wanted for BBQ and the quality of the meats were great. I got the 3-meat plate to share with a friend. We got brisket, ribs, and sausage with a side of mac and cheese and potato salad. The brisket and ribs were very tender and had a nice flavor to them. I don't normally order sausage, but these also had a great seasoning to them. The mac and cheese is probably one of my favorites because it had brisket mixed into it. If you're in the area and you're looking for BBQ, this is definitely a spot you have to check out.
google avatar

Jamison G.

Yelp
Pretty good. Brisket grilled cheese is a highlight. In a great area with lots to do. Pearl is nearby.
google avatar

Shirley L.

Yelp
The Smoke Shack was a great place to have some brisket. The price was slightly expensive but I would be willing to pay more because not only the brisket, but also the fried okra, and mac & cheese were all worth every penny. After I told them I planned to take the brisket to the airport, they wrapped it nicely so that I had no trouble passing security.
google avatar

Dan L.

Yelp
What a cozy little place. The Daisy Duke curtains are priceless. The bbq was amazing y'all. Huge portions and grilled and smoked to perfection. The guy taking our order was nice and helped us with some of his recommendation. If you are in the mood for good bbq and friendly attitude this is your spot.
google avatar

La Denna R.

Yelp
The food was good. However I went probably an 1.5 hours before closing. I would say the meat was a bit on the cold side than warm. That does not take away from the foods taste just the temperature quality. The place was packed and meat full of flavor and tender. I would have just preferred for my meat to have been warm. I would like to go again but earlier in the day. The ribs were delicious, tender, and as a great match for their BBQ sauce. The brisket was flavored all on its own. This is the same for the pulled pork. I hope to come back and try this food again. Please come check this place out for yourself.

Yelp
Looked on yelp for a close BBQ place and this popped up. Ok let's go. Was pleasantly surprised to see the celebrity pics on the wall, even a couple of Guy Feiri shots. Staff was really friendly when I walked in and made me feel at home. Order a two meat plate turkey and brisket. Now here is where it gets strange. The good- they had already sold out of some stuff. Which is generally a good sign cause people are eating it. The bad- when ordering brisket and asking for heavy bark and lean the gentleman taking the order looked like a deer in my headlights. Hmmm So I backed off from the technical talk and finished my order Coleslaw and Spicy cream corn. Overall appearance was great. Smoked Turkey was still moist and flavorful. The brisket was just disappointing. Dry with about a 1/4" thick layer of fat. Coleslaw I'm neutral on. I kind of dug the cheese in it to balance the vinegar but I think some sweet or citrus flavor would take it over hump. The spicy cream corn was ok nothing special I felt it could also use something to make it pop. And finally the BBQ sauce, was a nice fairly neutral flavor to much sweet and not too much twang from the vinegar. Overall was disappointing for me. Maybe I got there too close to closing or on a bad night Wednesday around 7ish pm. I'm sure I'll give it a second chance next time I'm down this way.

Yelp
Solid BBQ place! We had sliders, pork ribs and a grilled cheese. The pork ribs were my favorite! I also ordered the loaded Mac and cheese. It was good but I realized I didn't need to get it loaded with brisket since I already had a lot of meat. The best side was the fried okra! Nice unique option there. Enjoyed it!

Yelp
This was our second attempt to get food from this restaurant. The first time they were out of most of their food by 6. This time we got there by 5:00. I had heard so much about it that my mouth was drooling when I had learned that they had it. I ordered the brisket grilled cheese with green beans. I wish it had lived up to the hype. The grilled cheese is a basic sandwich. The brisket is chopped and dry-hard. Did I eat it? Yes, I was hungry and drenched it bbq sauce. But is was definitely not drool worthy. My family got the chicken sliders, 3 meet plate and the roasted chicken. We all did the taste test on each others plates so we could try it all. All in all we were not impressed. There are lots of bbq places I would go to before here. The cashier is very helpful and suggested what she thought was great food. She was very knowledgeable and fast on the register. The restaurant is the typical bbq joint. A really great atmosphere and family friendly. They also have a great outside seating area. Results: if my family wants to eat here I will go, but other than that I would not go out of my way to come back.

Yelp
Guy Fieri had it right when he reviewed this on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! This place was amazing. I usually have pics of our food but everyone jumped into eating cause everything looked so good. We ordered every side so we could taste them all but due to it being close to closing they ran out of Mac n cheese and the fried okra. My personal favorite was the baked beans. The spicy corn and vinegar slaw were also mentioned by my family that was there with me. We wanted truly authentic bbq for family visiting from NJ and we got that! Will definitely get back because it was money well spent for truly delicious Texas barbecue. Loved it

Yelp
Visiting from CA and this place came up as a must try in San Antonio. Walked in and and I was excited all the recognition in magazines, newspapers, on TV too by the Dine Diners and Divers, show. I'm extremely disappointed. -Start with the bbq sauce- too sweet and watery. Roll- cold and stale!!!! Mac and cheese- Dry :(. And had a not nice suprise meat too, but I'm from CA, where we question, what am I eating? Potato salad- I feel no one makes potato salad the same so whatever. I've never had potato salad with shredded cheese. To each their own. Again, had suprise meat in it. -Chicken was ok. Not great but not bad. Brother tasted all different meats. He said the best was the brisket. -Price was good for BBQ imo. Disappointing texas moment
google avatar

AuBriana B.

Yelp
Great BBQ. Like really really good. Brisket is amazing and I've been told the sausage and ribs are too. The brisket grilled cheese is always perfect and goes well with brisket mac and cheese when you want a brisket overload.y family and I have been here lots of times and we're never disappointed with the food, portions, or customer service. I just wish they'd open another location in the city. The only other location is at the airport.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic! You enter and it's typical BBQ decor. Tin wall, wood floors etc...you place your order at the register and take a seat as they will bring it out to you once it's done We ordered the three meats platter and a pulled pork sandwich. Yummy The fries were meh...but everything else was perfect. The char on the brisket aka bark was unbelievable The sauces were like no other I've tried specifically the mustard one! Wow!! Delish And as most of Texas has; Dr. Pepper in a can waiting in a trough of ice! Can't ask for much more than that! We will be back!! I'll add pictures next time Ps. Guy Fieri fromDDD on food network has been here as well but trust me, it's legit
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
Trust me this is not the first time I have been to the smoke shack. Actually I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet... ANYWAYS! We are in the great state of Texas and there is SO much BBQ around but if you are in the area, this is a MUST TRY. I've been coming here for years and the smoke shack never disappoints. I'll let the pics do their justice. Warm welcoming environment, outside seating and sweet tea! A Texan's paradise y'all.

Dan C.

Yelp
First time here, first time trying Texas bbq. Had the regular sausage, brisket, with potato salad and cole slaw. Everything was great. Slaw is vinegar based, it help cut through some of the grease. Definitely eating here again

Yelp
Listen up all you BBQ fanatics! You want BBQ, haul your butt to Smoke Shack!! They have a secret sandwich that's been around a while called the BIG DADDy! In other terms for us the latinas, "Big Papí!!" This isn't a joke! If it's 2-3 people highly recommending only getting ONE 12 in not separate 6". Plus it saves money and the amount of food they give is glorious and leaves you in awe the flavors, the mixes of the meats and perfect crusted bread at the bottom because mine you, it's supposed to be a sandwich but ain't no daYum way that sandwich could close. So do yourself a favor don't skip out and don't be shy to share the 12"! It's moreeeee than enough!! The service is prime! Constantly cleaning off tables and checking on the guests. It's comfortable, good lighting from the windows and inside just a down home BBQ

Yelp
First time visit & I'm already turned off... -Why have "online ordering" capabilities, but it's not available?!? Which means that I have to go & wait for my food. So, I get there & (of course) they're out of Ribs AND Chicken-causing me to alter my entire order-ugggggh (it's 6:45 & they close @ 9-on a Sat Night...totally unacceptable) -Sausage was tiny & dry -Collards were 25% pot liquor & no flavoring meat -The "spicy" corn...wasn't! -The Mac & cheese and turkey was OK. The best thing in my order was the brisket. And, despite the slim/short slices, it was tender & juicy with a nice bark ! A disappointment overall...and, for $57, once is enough for me! The search continues for good BBQ is in S.A...

Yelp
Top notch! We asked a few locals for a good place to go for BBQ and so happy we found this place. The ordering process was a little silly - take out and dine-in all at the same register with 1 person. Otherwise, it was fairly quick to get our food. They have sodas, lemonade, tea, and some bottles of beer. The brisket was melt in your mouth. The smoked turkey was still really moist and not dry at all. Loved the mac - it had more brisket in it! We couldn't finish it all but grabbed boxes and had it for lunch the next day. Still amazing on reheat. Heard the okra and beans were great. Also really loved the corn. Truly, nothing we ordered was bad. Just be aware that parking is super limited. You can't park in the to go spot either unless you are picking up. They enforce that quite a bit.

Yelp
Don't think just GO! Literally no regrets from the meal to the service. This was a great experience and even better tasting meal.

Yelp
Been here several times and the food was great. Just went today and it was horrible. None of the food was hot or warm. The fries were cold and hard. Not sure when they were even cooked. Terrible visit. Feel like I wasted my money this time. :(

Catherine K.

Yelp
I've been to Smoke Shack twice now--once for a takeaway order while my family was visiting from the UK, and again this evening when I was really craving BBQ. This time, we dined in. What really stands out to me about this place is the atmosphere, especially with all the windows that let you feel connected to the outside. It's nice to watch the traffic go by while enjoying BBQ, which is easily one of my favorites. The food wins me over with its coleslaw, which has a familiar vinegar flavor similar to the kind you'd find in the UK, but it's so fresh! We had half marble, half lean brisket, and the combination was a real treat. The fried okra and mac 'n' cheese were also fantastic. I'm already looking forward to returning to try the pulled pork--it's definitely caught my attention.

Yelp
Late lunch at this well know bbq spot. This place isn't fancy. Definitely well worn. You order at the counter, they bring you your food. I tried a 2 meat plate - brisket and sausage, with 2 sides - collard greens and green beans. The plate comes with a roll. Service is quick. Less than 10 minutes from order to serve. The brisket is perfect. Beautiful crunchy bark, lean, moist and tender below the bark. The house made bbq sauce is the perfect, understated complement. Sausage is alright. The 6" smoked link had a nice crunch to it. It was a little greasier than I prefer. Taste is great, smoky with just a little heat. Collards and green beans are prepared right, long-simmered with onions and chunks of pork. To me they were sort of bland... Could have used some more spices... Not more heat but more robust. Definitely a place to try if you're in the mood for bbq in San Antonio.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER FRIES It's a BBQ joint, so stick with sides like Mac n cheese and Cole slaw. The meats are great, but go with brisket and ribs, forget the sausage. It was cooked to death.

Yelp
I love the sides here. The Mac and cheese was soo delicious. Creamy with pieces of meat in it! The potato salad was so flavorful, great thick texture, and the perfect amount of Mayo in it (assuming that's what they use). I was disappointed that by 6pm they were out of pork. I don't really care for brisket but was left getting that. It was ok but I would have much preferred pork. I would hope they don't run out before dinner often. Staff was friendly and there was plenty of seating.

Yelp
Dont know WTF happened? Used to be a great place but i guess biden fuc'ed this one up too. Brisket was dry and flavorless. Sausages was at the same caliber as a slim jim beef stick. I've licked the glue of an envelope that had more flavor than the turkey at this place. Beans were cold and boring. Helen Keller could have made a better potato salad. And the mac and cheese... No thank you please. Its almost painful to say that Bill Millers is better.
