‘Top Chef’ Alum B.J. Smith Is Opening a Polish Restaurant in Portland | Eater Portland

"Named for his late mother and opening December 5 in the former Smokehouse Tavern space, Delores will focus on a combination of traditional Polish dishes and eclectic, composed small plates that draw on Smith’s childhood: everything from potato-truffle pierogi to everything-spiced Parker House rolls with trout roe and CBD chocolate s’mores for dessert. I was told pierogi will always be on the menu and there may even be Coney Island hot dogs in honor of his parents; the cooking is Polish-inspired but seasonally driven and rooted in summers making pierogi with his grandmother and the big family parties he remembers. At approximately 11PM October 11 2025, a girl bartender denied service to me and said in exact words, “I’m not serving you if you don’t tip”. Mind you she’s probably saying that to everyone and that is how smokehouse runs their business? This is the first I’ve gone to smoke house and the first time I’ve been denied service for not tipping a bartender. If you want my recommendation, find this person and fire her. Then maybe I’ll consider changing my review to 2 stars. Unacceptable.

This establishment is definitely in the top 5 when looking for night life Lowell. The aesthetic is upscale and modern but still has a rustic and comfortable atmosphere. The food is great for a day visit on any occasion and the club is a true dance club. The DJs are always good and the crowd that this place draws are good people. I would highly recommend this place for dining or a fun night out. I found the best part to be the VIP section in the back of the restaurant. It has a very chill atmosphere and is usually never crowded. It's a great spot to wind down from the dance floor or just relax with friends.

If you wanna see a good fight come here at closing time for a show outside. It’s fun if you’re young and just began to drink or have a fake ID. Other than that no adults should come here for a good time. It’s gutter dirty in there and make sure you are drunk before you come as well.

Music was really loud in the dance area, to the point where my ears were ringing when I stepped into the bathroom 😬 but otherwise the place was pretty nice. I felt safe there, there were a variety of seating options and the drinks were good. It was spring break when I went so it wasn't packed enough for people to be dancing, but I bet it's pretty awesome on a regular night.

Honestly I never even got to go into the place! I’m legally able to drink, provided my ID and they asked to provide proof of my residency (I’m not a MA state resident)… I’ve never had this happen at ANY club/bar. Honestly that’s just super shady and ruined a fun night

Would give 0 stars if possible. The bouncer told me my ID was fake (it isn't) and forced me to leave without even scanning. He then turned around and immediately didn't check the IDs of the three person group behind me and let them in. Extremely rude and disrespectful.

I'm 25 and I felt extremely old here. I'm pretty sure I was the oldest person in the room--everyone else had to have been in college, if that. DJ was good, we could dance to most of the music. Drinks were much more affordable than in Boston, only $6 for mixed! Parking (street) is a bit difficult even if you come on the earlier side. You'll probably have to walk a couple blocks if you decide to drive. Not my first choice and wouldn't go out of my way for it but I'd come back.

Listen Smokehouse is 4 anyone who wants to have a great time. Love's a diverse crowd Young and old . People start hating and telling lies when they try to get in a club and are younger or bring someone Young and they can't get in. I will tell you one thing the bar is awesome if you want to come have a drink find someone to dance. I give credit to the top man Allen. The best bar in Lowell

I grew up here and came back home from NYC to go out dancing with my sisters. The doormen said to me, "Me and you both know that this is a fake I.D." and was so insanely rude to me and literally turned their backs on me. They should have scanned my I.D. and let me in. I have been here so many times but will never return.

I was visiting Boston, and this was the one place open for thanksgiving. The party at the venu was really nice however, once the event was over the security guards started yelling at us to leave. This place is 30-40 mins away from Boston, we were waiting for our uber and we had put the tavern as our pick up location, when I tried to tell them this they kept yelling at us. The place is nice but the staff is extremely rude. They are not nice at all!

Best bar in Lowell, quick service and fast drinks. Management is great. Pool tables and dart leagues. Great spot!!!
