The 23 Best Restaurants In Phoenix 2024

"SnapBack Pizzeria started as a mobile pop-up and catering operation under a different name before finding a more permanent spot in the old Grand Avenue Pizza Company location. This casual slice shop makes pies that any pizza purist will appreciate, but that’s not to say there aren’t surprises. Keep an eye out for the chef’s Mystery Pie, with a description that reads: “no mods, no complaints.” We like eating on the back patio here, but it’s also great for takeout or delivery when you don’t feel like interacting with the outside world." - lauren topor

The Best Late-Night Phoenix Eats

"Housed on a prominent Grand Ave. corner, Snapback is serving some of the best pizza in Phoenix. Founder and chef Ryan Moreno, aka the Hungry Homie, got his start slinging pies at various pop-up events around Phoenix, and has created a permanent home at Snapback. Described as a cross between Neapolitan and New York-style pizza, this casual window service establishment has daily special pies and pepperonis that are almost as big as the slice itself. Snapback is open until midnight Tuesday to Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday." - Mcconnell Quinn

As soon as I arrived with a group of friends, I noticed that the atmosphere was totally awesome and had different nostalgic designs to appeal to both children and adults. When we arrived at the window, the chef greeted us with a nice smile and helped us out. Since we didn't have enough money the staff was nice enough to give us a discount on drinks. The wait time for the pizza was fairly fast, and the portion of the pizza was fairly big. The pizza itself tasted really good and had a nice cheese pull when you grabbed a slice. All together, the restaurant, food, and staff made the experience worth it and definitely added 5 stars to its pallet. Thank you for the experience SnapBack.

Google
To say this place is AMAZING is not saying enough! The staff is super friendly and the pizza... the PIZZA! OMFG! The special is always my go to but tonight... I hope i get this right... a deconstructed, butternut squash soup pizza. So delicious!!! It's like a meal with desert slightly blended in to finish. This is quickly becoming my late night bike ride spot. I mean, you need a good "healthy" meal after a workout... right? You guys rock!!! So glad I found you!

Google
Came across SnapBack when out fur ice cream and saw one gets on the patio having pizza that looked amazing. Well the looks didn’t disappoint when tonight getting to try it out. You order at the window with super friendly staff. Explained the menu and options and gave us time to look it over. We got slices to try some different types. Crust was thin and crispy with a beautiful chew. The edges were puffed and light and airy, just how I like it. The beef special slice was really good and all the flavors popped with the tender beef and garlic-cheezwhiz drizzle. Pepperoni was flavorful and not overly salty and the cheese was a nice mild blend. Will for sure be back. There’s a patio in the back to sit and enjoy or take it across the street and get some beers at the pub and ice cream afterwards at Novel

I went to this place on accident because it was the only pizza place open at 2am. I am SO GLAD I went. The pizza was delicious and crispy. The owner was very kind and is all about making the community come together. I happened to be the last customer of the night so the owner gave my friends and I 7 slices for free. The veggie was soooooo good and the pizza flavors change each week depending on the fresh ingredients they’re able to get. 10 out of 10 recommend and I can’t wait to go back

Google
Meh. This is the veggie pizza made by someone anti-veggie. Nothing green, no red sauce. Dry bland. Crust has potential to be a really decent pie. Ranch was tasty. But seriously?!? Where are the veggies on this pizza?? No sauce. The garlic knots were greasy with a weird tasting low quality oil. I’m a serious foodie so this is a generous 3-stars. Please step up the veggie game! Gluten friendly pizza options would be really nice too! Wanted to like this place as we loved frequenting the Grand Ave Pizza on our bike rides in through the neighborhood.

Met the owner at a concert in Cali and decided to try this place when I got back to PHX. The wings were amazing. Pizza was really good too. Will definitely come back to try some garlic knots

Google
Stumbled across this spot last weekend while getting coffee next door. Unbelievably great experience! The SnapBack team does an awesome job with their food and service. Best slice of pizza I've ever had! Thank you Hungry Homie for all the love you're putting into this business. Great to meet you. Food is 100/10

Google
SnapBack Pizza will change your life. I watched a table full of rough and rowdy railroaders get all teary eyed and emotional over eating this pizza! I highly recommend trying the Vanna White and a side of Deez Knots - 12/10

Yelp
Stopped by on Thursday night and we were quickly greeted by the worker. We looked over the menu and decided to just get a slice each since it was pretty late. We ordered two peperoni slices and paid about $14 with tip. Waited a few minutes for our slices to be ready. We ate in the car and omg we were in heaven. The pizza was delicious! They were both hot, the cheese was gooey, and the pepperonis were big!! We finished eating and we wished we had ordered another slice, lol. Will definitely be back. This place is gooooooooooood. *we didn't see any tables or seating not sure if there is any?

Yelp
SnapBack was highly recommended by some locals so we had to grab a slice for a taste. So glad we did! It was fresh and delicious. Perfectly seasoned and crust was chewy yet soft. We kicked ourself for not getting a whole pie to go. But, no worries; we will return shortly to get one and to try more things. Service was fast and they were very friendly. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Well unfortunately I'm doing this review a little bit too late because I'm sure as most of you know SnapBack Pizzeria is now closed permanently. It may seem a bit pointless to do this now but I have some thoughts to share and I hope you will indulge me in this. So probably a couple of years ago my good friend and I were at a concert in Phoenix. Usually afterwards we try to get some food and because it's pretty late we have to find something open. He said I want to take you to this place called SnapBack Pizzeria on Grand Avenue. He said it's a small independent owned pizza place. Boom I'm all for it because I like these small businesses they usually have some of best food. So we get there and keep in mind it was late they only had slices available and they were not doing whole pies. No problem being it's my first I would prefer to just get a couple of slices and see if I like it. They were pretty wiped out on options so I got two slices of the Vanna White. I had really no idea what it was but I just went with it. .Upon trying it I knew this place was something special. While it wouldn't have been my first choice I was very impressed with the quality of the pizza. I told my friend we had to visit again. At the time I was living in Maricopa helping out a friend with a house. Eventually I got back to Gilbert where I've been living for many years. Unfortunately I didn't get back to this place until recently. My good friend this past week sent me an Instagram announcing the closing of the restaurant permanently. Now obviously I feel a sense of sadness because I hate seeing any of these small independent businesses have to close down. Just before Christmas my good friend Josh called me on Christmas Eve and told me the restaurant and bar he was working at was closing down. This place was just down the street from where I live in Gilbert . It was a 10 minute walk from my house and I spent many evenings there. Josh was the guy who made the pizzas and I met him through going there many times. So here is my point from all of this and I want to make a statement. PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS PLEASE. We need these places to exist. We need them they need us to support them. Of all the cookie cutter and assembly line places that are available we need these places to offer variety. Nothing against those places but I think we can strike a balance. If you are one of those people that have found a place that has special meaning to you then spread the word. Tell your friends and family and coworkers hell even tell a stranger. When you support these businesses I think you're more emotionally invested in them. I love coming into a place and being greeted by name. It's about building a relationship with these businesses and helping them keep a dream alive. By the way my friend and I were there on Friday and I ordered two pies. I will say this. The best pizza I've ever had in the east valley. I'm still finishing my leftovers while I write this review. The owner Ryan will be back I'm confident. So in conclusion please support these small businesses it could make the difference in a place keeping their doors open or mourning the loss of another business. Godspeed

Yelp
Ordered it uberEATS. The dough was likely the best part, and the toppings were generally good. I ordered some sauces on the side, and I wish they'd have replaced the sweetheat with Mike's hot honey instead. The garlic, mushrooms, and artichokes were good. Pepperoni was soso. My only real complaint is how much my stomach hurt in the morning.

Yelp
i haven't had a good pizza like this in a MINUTE!!! we got the julien and it was reasonably priced considering how big the pizza is. took about 15 minutes and the staff was super friendly!!! grand ave has some cute things to look at in the wait time and the back seating area would be great with a group of friends!! eat here if ur sexc!!!

Yelp
Ordered debacle! I ordered ahead via their ToastTab site and was excited about the posted special- a white pie with cheese sauce, mushrooms, siracha agave. It sounded amazing! The staff is friendly and our pie was ready at the estimated time. Since it was too cold for sitting outside, we took it home. Unfortunately, when we got home, the pizza was covered with chicken caesar salad. I'm sure it was great if you are a meat eater, but I'm not. IDK whether there was a prob with their ordering site or we got someone else's order by mistake?? B will take it to work so it won't get thrown away, but since it cost $32 before tax/tip, I was definitely disappointed. We also ordered the tie dye which was as expected. Maybe bc it took us 25 minutes to drive home and it wasn't fresh from the oven when we ate it, but it was just ok- not sure it makes my list of fave pizzas in town. The pies are huge, so if I were to go back, I'd order slices at the window (not online) to be sure about what I was getting and plan to eat it there.

Yelp
Snap Back is a takeout joint. You can call in or order at the window. We called our order in and the pizza was hot and ready when they said it would be. The staff was very friendly. They have a cute outdoor area behind the building where you can eat but we chose to take ours home. The pizza itself was delicious! Would go back again if visiting the area.

Yelp
Hidden gem in downtown Phoenix. Ryan is a master of his craft. You can taste the quality ingredients in every bite. It's like a symphony of flavors in your mouth. The crust is crispy and light with the perfect amount of olive oil. All said and done the PIZZA is delicious. Don't forget to order an Mexican Coke, you'll taste the difference. Violet is at the Front window ready to take your order with a smile. She's the best. There is plenty of seating in the backyard. It's clean and kinda quiet. A little music wouldn't hurt. So glad they're open in the late night hours. It definitely hits the spot after a night of partying. We will definitely be back for some more deliciousness. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Yelp
Was in the area for an event tonight and my husband requested I pick up pizza on the way home so I went here. We loved grand ave pizza and were sad to see it go, but excited to try SnapBack! We got a plain cheese pizza and garlic knots. My husband thought the garlic knots were too garlicky but I did like them. The pizza was a tiny bit burnt on the bottom but the crust was pretty yummy. Wouldn't say it's my very favorite, but it's definitely not bad and I'm glad we tried it! The guy working there was really nice too!

Yelp
We stopped by here for an afternoon snack after visiting Pueblo plant store next door. We just got a slice of cheese and it was great! Thin, crispy NY style pizza. They have a lot of seating in the backyard that's pretty comfortable on a nice day. Might get a bit hot in the summer unless they have misters. Definitely looking forward to coming back for dinner in the near future to try more of the menu!

Yelp
We've reached the "Drunk Pizza" portion of the evening. Because you're drunk and you need a slice (s) of delicious pizza to power you through the rest of the evening. Nestled on Grand Ave is the humble Snapback Pizza fka Grand Avenue Pizza. Same chef as before; owner opened another location. Walk up to the window to place your order. Or call an order in. They serve slices and full pizzas. You'll always see people waiting for their orders. There's a nice little pizza garden with tables, chairs and picnic tables to wait or eat a delicious slice of pizza pie. I choose the Dominic Decoco pizza slice variety. So delicious. Definitely NY-style pizza. Toppings were fresh and yummy. The dough was just the right amount of heft and chew. The garlic knots and buffalo wings are a definite must try the next time I'm down on Grand Ave. Don't let the size fool you. The pizza shop may be tiny but the taste is mighty good. So glad I stopped!!

Yelp
If you love thin crust pizza this is going to be your new favorite spot! It's delicious, crunchy, & they get really creative with their specials! The one I tried had diavola sauce, salami, pepperoni, mozzarella, Parmesan, & spicy agave. It was delicious & you just can't go wrong with a classic pepperoni either! Keep in mind they only have outdoor seating & if you're taking it to go I'd recommend asking for them to make it extra crunchy!

Cameron W.

Yelp
Accidentally stumbled across this place at 1 am. No, I wasn't drunk but this is a must on you Phoenix pizza list.

Markos M.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to grab a slice in town! The weekly specials are unique, and something you won't find anywhere else! The crew is really nice, something which seems to be hard to find nowadays. Building is cool, you can sit out back and grab a slice, or head across the street with your pie to the Wayward and grab a beer or two!

Shaded K.

Yelp
he saved us with the food, this pizza is really good, the customer service is absolute AMAZING! i am definitely coming back, not to mention the atmosphere here is awesome.

Yelp
Amazing little spot on Grand Ave. Just happened to pass it by going to Pueblo next door to grab a plant or two. Pizza pizza pizza so good. Fresh ingredients and their dough is amazing. Very quick and friendly service. Order at the window. I did see a patio but I just did takeaway. Definitely a secret gem of a place.

Nicole M.

Yelp
This is the best pizza I have ever had in arizona. The service was amazing and efficient. Nothing compares to this pizza it's worth checking out and you won't regret it. Be sure to check out the back patio for some cool art. DON'T miss out on the ranch it's 10/10!!!!

Brandon M.

Yelp
This is probably the best pizza I've had in the Southwest. The crust was well done without being burnt.
google avatar

Yelp
As a self proclaimed Pizza Pro who has sampled pie from around the world I can attest that this pizza is 'da bomb'. There are few good "new York" and "Neapolitan" style pizzas in Phoenix, but at SnapBack pizzeria you get the best of both worlds. The service was laid back yet knowledgeable with a nice outdoor area to enjoy your slice. The owner was grilling up some chicken for this weekends special pizza, a Korean influence of sorts, sounds tasty! Gonna be back for sure to check out more of their menu.

Yelp
Love it or hate it, I was bummed when Grand Ave. decided to stay on a permanent summer break. I live a few blocks and it's so easy to get there - it was sad to see them go. I learned that the Hungry Homie was taking full ownership and opening his own concept - I was skeptical (nothing personal, just a Grand Ave Stan). RIP Grand Ave - SnapBack has exceeded my expectations by a mile. I've been four times since they opened including checking them out on a soft launch day. Every time I go, SnapBack has improved. I'm a vegetarian and love their pesto pizza. Cheese is also great. Pricy for a whole pizza but they are huge ! I can eat max two pieces. Of course, there is always the by-the-slice option. I've never had to wait more than an hour for pizza (usually around 30 minute wait times on busy Fridays and Saturdays). They are awesome! And, it wouldn't be a review without mentioning their ranch! I've been trying to recreate it but it's impossible. The house made ranch is outstanding. You can buy cans of soda for a buck if you need a Diet Coke fix. My only gripe - I ate a hot slice out of the box and ruined my husband's favorite trashy black sweatshirt by dripping grease on it while eating. The gripe, you ask? The pizza is so good you eat straight out of the box - no utensils, no napkins, no plates - and forget all your manners.

Shannon Q.

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza place in Phoenix!! Perfect marriage of NY and artisan Neapolitan. The service from the Homie and his crew is rad, and quality of the ingredients is super (like the size of the pepperoni.) PULL UP
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Visiting from NorCal. . Super yummy crust. Fresh veggies & jumbo pepperoni Loved it!

Yelp
Owner is awesome and easy to talk to! Pizza menu is consistent and there are specials as well. Perfect location and service is fast! Open hours are convenient to its location area! Ingredients are fresh!

Yelp
Wow, FINALLY a pizza joint downtown with bomb pizza AND bomb wings! Got the Dr. Pep with extra cheese, side of garlic butter, and an order of buffalo wings. The pizza is huge and the pep is huge...well covered. The garlic butter is made with actual butter! While I wish the wings were slightly saucier, they were really well cooked and delicious. New favorite pizza spot!

Daisy W.

Yelp
Snapback is always slinging the best pies in town. The people are always so nice and give a neighborhood feel. The Vanna White is my favorite, but the tye dye is a close second. Awesome for slices, or a huge pie. Super cute patio to eat and chill. The deez knots are also to die for last but not least, so psyched they're open so late and with good vegetarian options

Dyllan S.

Yelp
Their pizza is BOMB their patio is chill and dog friendly. Open til 3AM on Friday and Saturday night which is perfectnfor those late night munchies

Mary H.

Yelp
Tasty menu with fresh ingredients, friendly staff, late hours, great location. What more do you want??

Jovan G.

Yelp
We had originally gone to get the hungry homie pop up and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the chefs ability to spin pies and acknowledge every customer, he now takes over at snap back and this pizza was to say the least a Devine slice each bite was perfect. My wife and I enjoyed the Dr PeP easy to say one of the best pizzas in the state of Arizona. New York meets Connecticut and Jersey and a pit stop in Detroit for a delicious pie no lie!!

Addison W.

Yelp
Boyfriend and I was in the area to grab a bite and go. Order Dr. Pep and cheese slices thinking it was just need to be warmed up. Gave us a 15 min wait time. No lines was formed. When we received our order, was not our order and respectfully advise front staff. Waited an additional 20 mins for three slices. Things happen, understanding. Cheese slice, crust was hard. Dr. Pep was better but not the best. They gave us Kroger water bottle as an apology :( Their social media is over hyped to expectation. Please use this review as to better your business.

Sam F.

Yelp
Everything is solid, the service, the food, and such a chill place to just relax. We came in when the special was just about up and the cook told us he only had half a pizza left of it and didn't have supplies for the rest, so he accommodated us because we still paid for it, but he was offering us everything to make up for it but all we wanted was the pizza, a good time and the jarritos and sprite. Everything was perfect would recommend to anyone!

Tawni C.

Yelp
So excited to make it to SnapBack Pizzeria for the first time! We have always enjoyed the Hungry Homie pizza, but this pizza was next level :) We ordered three different whole pizza's (cheese, Vanna White, and veggie). The crust was amazing and the balance in toppings was perfect. Excited to make this a regular rotation for our family dinners. I highly recommend supporting this local business!

Mary C.

Yelp
The pizza was huge and delicious. We will return and look forward to trying all the yummy pies!
