Snaps and Rye Review - Notting Hill - London - The Infatuation

"Notting Hill could be Britain’s best attempt at a tribute to Scandinavia – it’s the least grubby of London’s neighbourhoods, and has lots of tiny colourful houses too. Just like Scandinavia then. Snaps + Rye is as Scandinavian as Scandinavian can be - thick rugs on chairs, maps of Copenhagen along the walls, and simple but stylish cooking. The food is classically Danish with lots of beautifully prepared fish and meat packed full of hearty flavours, and all balanced really nicely with fresh herbs or pickled vegetables. And of course there’s homemade rye bread. Snaps + Rye is open all day and it’s perfect for a light lunch if you’re in the area, although make sure to book ahead at weekends when it gets busy. Their set menus generally make for a very good evening meal, and with five courses coming in at £38 from Thursday to Saturday evening, it’s decent value too." - Sam Collins

Fantastic brunch! Perfect service! Yummy food! We could not asked more today! We came here after a suggestion from a friend of us and we have to say that the place is cute and the food is great, service was second to none! Absolutely recommended! Try their smoked in house salmon, their rye bread and the herring for a different type of food from your usual brunch. It is not a cheap place but quality and service is high!

Been there the 2nd time. And it was awesome. Found an offer, called The Danish Way. Don't know, why I missed that last time, because it's great. You get one Danish beer, a Smorrebrod of your choice and a snaps, also the one you want. Had the herring and the egg+prawn, both really tasty. The snaps, I had the dill version was kinda freaky, but pretty cool. Enjoyed my visit there. Last but not least because of the professional and funny staff. Love it. Recommend you and come back personally.

Snaps + Rye is a cosy cafe in Notting Hill, great for breakfast. Started off with some well-brewed, smooth cappuccinos and a flaky, delicious cinnamon roll pastry. The Smoked Salmon Scramble was great choice with plenty of salmon and well-cooked eggs. The rye bread was delectable, dense and moist, going well with the butter. The buttermilk oat porridge was smooth with the berry compote giving it a nice kick. The staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Came here today and had Nordic Kedgeree, absolutely delicious. They use good quality ingredients and great flavours. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced too. Vegan options available and good selection of dishes on the menu. It would be better if they have a baby changing facilities. Coffees was a little disappointing, but the food is good.

Cannot overstate the calm, comforting Scandinavian aesthetic. Had a lovely lunch of herring salad, with radish, greens, egg, and potato. Best part was the crispy rye - a delicacy in its own right. Wish there had been room for dessert! Nice gifts are also available from their small retail section, including my favourite SCANDINAVISK candles.

If you're looking for a delicious and a bit untraditional lunch in Notting Hill, you will definitely enjoy this place! They serve traditional Danish food but with their own personal touch. The vibe is very Scandinavian and we even had a (very friendly) Danish waiter. Try the Sun over Golborne!

The place was recommended to us by a friend , the food was good but the portions were tiny. It was Sunday around 1 pm and the restaurant had run out of avocado, orange juice as well as other items on the menu. its unfortunate since the place is actually nice!

The Danish Breakfast is a must. All other chosen dishes for breakfast were also very nice. We got there at 10am and did not have to wait for a table.

Yelp
I was hoping to order smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches), but by the time I arrived at 1pm they were already sold out. FYI the woman at the front said that is common, which is odd because 1pm isn't exactly late for lunch, but anyhow, I ended up ordering the frikadeller (Danish meatballs, potatoes with blue cheese, and salad). It was quite delicious. The salad was especially good as I really loved the quality of the greens and the light dressing. It's a charming restaurant with lots of fun Danish items to purchase- especially if you love black licorice!

Yelp
Really nice coffee place perfect for lunch. I didn't get a chance to try smorrebrod when I went to Denmark so this was my chance to try it. The rye bread is really good and you can choose from 4-5 different toppings (I had avocado, salmon and eggs/tomato). 3 makes a good plate, I honestly think 2 would have been enough but they looked (and tasted) so delicious. Just a warning regarding the deserts: 90% contain liquorice. If you can't have them, like me, it's a bit disappointing but if you like it, then this is the place for you. Coffee is reeeally gooood (seems to be a rare find nowadays). They also do a set dinner menu Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for £35 that looked amazing.

Yelp
Snaps & Rye takes me back to my childhood - and I'm not even Danish! My grandmother used to serve open sandwiches on ceramic boards, and the meatballs I sampled today reminded my of my mum's cooking. We only ever had meatball sandwiches on Saturdays, made from the week's leftovers ... here they come freshly made to order, with a side order of pickled beetroot and thinly sliced cucumber salad. Somehow Jacqueline and Kell managed to condense my childhood memories and re-package them in modern Scandi style. The biggest draw is the rye bread - the only thing expat Germans miss when they live abroad. No wonder the place was packed just one week since opening. Service is as understated and friendly as the surroundings, and I was very happy with the recommendation of mint & licoirice tea. I'll have to come back to sample some snaps ...

Yelp
Had a lovely lunch here yesterday! Bit weird dining in the same spot I used to have my hair cut (the owners moved their hair salon to open this place!) I'd never claim to be an expert of Danish food, but the menu was full of unexpected dishes from smoked chicken and pork and veal frikadellers (meatballs) to sole fillets and mackerel. Might be slightly intimidating for those with a timid palate, but visit for a delish, unexpected, well presented meal, full of flavour, while being quite light. Loved all the detail from the crockery and tables settings to the minimalist decor. Portions did feel slightly small for the prices, but the presentation and quality was without question. They offer a selection of handmade desserts, and my latte cheesecake was heavenly! Light as air with a crunchy, ginger base- perfection! Service could use a little tightening up, but overall very pleased for a new lunch option on the eclectic golborne road!

Yelp
This is probably the best Danish restaurant in London (although I suppose there are not many). The lunch and breakfast menus are distinctly "Danish" - whenever my husband craves a bit of his homeland, we come here for some Smørrebrød and Frikadeller (or alternatively, order it on Deliveroo). However, I'd have to really recommend coming here in the evening for the set menu dinner. It's a great place to take a date on a Friday night---not crowded, modern romantic setting, and you can actually have a conversation. The set menu is a steal with 3 courses (+ amuse bouche) for £35pp. The food, while not traditionally Danish, is more modern Danish + British influences. It was soooooooo good. I mean seriously, this is a steal. Come here now before everyone discovers it and you can't get reservations. I will definitely be coming back

Yelp
First time in this small, clean restaurant cafe. Only had a breakfast of oats ( and a hot chocolate !) on a cold and rainy London morning. That was good in a healthy way, as was the drink. The place is nice enough with world music playing and wooden tables with Nordic like chairs and table. However, as one person alone at a window table, I am apparently invisible to the staff. Don't expect any of those mid meals "how is everything ?". Don't expect ten minutes after you've finished your oats to have anyone come over. Rely on waving or pouting (I've used both). Takes away from the pleasure of any restaurant when you have to lobby for your rights to leave. First World Problems, I know. Just not a great introduction to this Danish den.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite brunch/lunch spots in the area, although it seems to still be something of a well kept secret. The food is both delicious and interesting (the menu goes far beyond the typical eggs benedict you'd find everywhere else) and the staff are very friendly.

Yelp
A quiet, reserved, minimalist café with a small menu......but when you arrive, you see their range of open sandwiches, I tried the salmon gravlax on rye and it was lovely, they also offered avocado, tomato, herring, eel pate and chicken/mushroom. Hot breakfast was mustardy Welsh rarebit and hog's pudding-like Polish black pudding, but white. Came with the most gorgeous tomato ketchup-need to sell that stuff for sure! My friend thoroughly enjoyed the goats curd on rye with pickled and liquorice strawberries. Pastries were enjoyed too and the strawberry cheesecake? Rich but light, flavourful and creamy, such a delight. Looking forward to coming back in the evenings for the fixed course fish menu! Theres a reason why this place is full and others empty on the straight stretch.

Yelp
It appears that Scandinavian themed bars and restaurants are on the up in London so when Transun offered me the chance to review the newly opened Snaps + Rye I couldn't say yes quick enough! Snaps + Rye is a Danish Eatery and Takeaway situated on Golborne Road, West London, just a short walk away from the Ladbroke Grove station. JB and I stopped by for lunch which consists of traditional Danish Smørrebrød on homemade rye bread, meatballs, home cured salmon, and an a la carte menu on a daily basis. After studying the menu for a decent amount of time, wandering the shop and eyeing up other people's lunch we decided on what to have! I opted for Danish Smørrebrød complete with apple, chicken and crispy bacon which was divine. For sides I tried the potato salad and rye bread with cheese. To drink I obviously had to go with the Cocio Chocolate milk from Denmark. I wanted the full Danish experience! JB opted for Rare Beef on Rye with soft boiled egg, pickled mushrooms and mustard cauliflower. There was even some marrow thrown in for good measure! We both emptied our plates, and despite being full to the brim I probably could of tried more! The service was of a very high standard, and the venue itself was very quirky. Lots of great artwork, and the furniture was really nice too. The whole area felt bright, and airy. There's even a little shopping area where you can by rye bread, lots of the ingredients from their menu and the plates/home wares that decorate the venue. I had to tear myself away from the mustard selection as I'm sure they won't go down too well on my healthy eating plan! I'd highly recommend popping by Snaps + Rye if you're in the area as the food and service is very authentic.

Yelp
Fabulous place! We went here last Friday night - I think they've only recently opened for Friday eves as well as daytimes - and it was a terrific addition to the local dining places we already know. They've clearly put great care into every detail - the dishes, the wait staff, the ambience, even the pictures on the wall. Golborne Rd now has several really good restaurants and this is yet another reason to venture there. Every dish in the set menu (all fresh fish-based) was delicious - and healthy. The wait staff were courteous and engaging, and the owners clearly have such enthusiasm for their work. An excellent evening. They deserve it to become an established success. Well worth a visit.

Yelp
I LOVE the food here! I think they have the best latte in all of London. And their Kedgeree is so yummy! i can't believe i had never tried it or seen it on any other menu ever. In my short 1 month stay in London, i frequented this establishment 4 times and thats only because i discover how good it was 2 weeks into my stay. My friend from Denmark took a look at their menu and said it was very authentic. So why 4 stars and not 5 if i like this place so much? Well their service can be pretty bad. They can get understaffed when it gets busy and not all the waitresses are the nicest at times. It is still definitely worth checking out though, cause the food is phenomenal.

Yelp
Stepping into Snaps and Rye is like visiting a genuine Danish cafe/restaurant. The place has been designed beautifully down to the details of the crockery and cutlery. The food is authentic and tastes fresh. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because the portions could have been bigger but maybe that's because I'm greedy or because it was such an easy and pleasant experience. Having said that it was perfectly fine for lunch and a welcome addition to this foodie road.

Yelp
Just lovely. Clean, crisp, fresh and friendly, and absolutely delicious. The best of scandinavian, served with warmth and friendliness. Jacqueline and Kell have got it absolutely right!
