"Spread out over three rooms in a refurbished 1800’s building—there’s a designated space for a restaurant, bar, and performance space—Snug Harbor is a one-stop shop for good food, good drinks, and great jazz. At about $20 a pop, concert tickets are not cheap, but the impressive roster of local talent and the fun ambiance justifies the splurge. There are shows at 8pm and 10pm every night."

Epic small jazz club with a restaurant in the front. Truly some of the best musicians I have ever heard. And since it’s a small place you feel like you’re in their living room with them just jamming. Food before was good. The New Orleans style BBQ shrimp were really good. And the crab cake too…

An Unforgettable Evening with Charlie Gabriel and Larry Sieberth at The Listen Room What an incredible night of music! Charlie Gabriel and Larry Sieberth delivered unforgettable performances at The Listen Room, showcasing their masterful talent and musical chemistry. Gabriel’s soulful playing and warm stage presence, paired with Sieberth’s nuanced, expressive piano, created a magical atmosphere from start to finish. The Listen Room itself added to the experience — an intimate, cozy venue that offered a close-up view of these legendary performers. The acoustics were spot-on, and the setting made the audience feel like part of something truly special. It was a rare and beautiful night where music, setting, and spirit came together perfectly. A must-see experience for any true music lover.

Google
My rating of 5 is mostly for the performance. We watched a great jazz performance by Joanne Brakeen and her trio and it was great. Food was ok. Took 30 min to get ready, but it’s fresh! Servers were friendly. I didn’t really like my bbq shrimp, neither my friend. It tasted boiled rather than bbq.

Google
We weren't able to see the jazz performance, but the food was terrific! We ordered the grilled salmon, fish marigny either a side of jambalaya, cup fo seafood gumbo, baked potato, and red beans and rice with chicken tenders. All of the food were delectable! The seafood gumbo was rich in flavor. The jambalaya was cooked well. I especially loved the fish marigny and grilled salmon! Come by for the food, stay for the jazz. Or is it the other way around? Either way, visit this restaurant and jazz bar. You won't regret it. Plus, it's a good place to start your trek along Frenchmen St.

Google
Decent place, would probably go again. Ordered quite a few New Orleans classics, and was not disappointed. The place itself has a lot of art and you can go listen to some live music inside.

Andy Garcia

Google
It’s a very nice space and food was good, I really liked the étouffée I ordered. You need to buy tickets beforehand to watch the jazz performances though, small detail I didn’t know before coming, but at least you could still listen to the music haha

Google
Never eaten here but the venue never fails in delivering fantastic jazz/blues performances in a cosy intimate environment. Drinks are standard but that’s not the purpose of the visit.

Google
Went for about 7pm and the live music started at 7.45. Don’t listen to reviews hating on the food, it’s so tasty and worth it. There was also no wait, we were seated immediately.

Yelp
You know a place is good when there is a wait for a table after 8. We decided to eat here before the show...good decision as everything was excellent. We had a cocktail at the bar and peeked in on the first show to see if we wanted to attend the next one after dinner. After we were seated I ordered a sazerac and my wife ordered a glass of Pinot Noir. Our server was expedient and after giving us a moment to contemplate our drinks and the menu he returned and I ordered the Blackened fish jambalaya topped with etouffée while my wife ordered the Fish Marigny blackened with jambalaya. It was all so good, I must have went to food heaven as all I can say is divine! We finished our meal with some of the best damn bread pudding I've ever tasted and went to the show which was good(talented musicians), , but got surpassed by the service and food! Hats off to the staff for making our final meal in the Crescent city a great one!

Yelp
The food isn't good. Of all the places I've eaten while in New Orleans, this is the only place where I had to add salt, pepper, and hot sauce to make the food edible. And just barely so. I'd initially ordered the special of stuffed shrimp, but they were out of that. I ordered fried shrimp with a side of red beans and rice, and a coke. First things first, the coke was very flat. There wasn't a single bubble. I thought perhaps they'd given me iced tea by accident when I first saw it. I told the server and she said she'd mention it to the bus boy. I've never worked in service so I'm not sure what a bus boy has to do with that situation. Anyway, I asked for ginger ale to replace the coke. I did see bubbles in the ginger ale, but upon drinking, it was also very weak. On to the meal: the shrimp, while quite meaty, was absolutely flavorless. I was basically just eating for texture, not taste. And the beans and rice? I love beans and rice, but this was by far the worst I've ever tasted. It was vinegar-y and thin. It had the consistency of soup. Alongside the meal were 3 small cups with different substances. One was cocktail sauce, another tartar. The 3rd remains a mystery. It smelled like potatoes, and had the consistency of mashed potatoes, but it was cold and tasted like nothing. I couldn't ask what it was because none of the servers were very attentive. About 5 minutes before we left, another party was sat near us. Water was dripping onto one of the women. She tried to get the host's attention and he ignored her. Theirs was a party of about 8 people. They took it upon themselves to move the tables from underneath the water drip. As we were leaving, one of the ladies with me advised that party that the food wasn't good and suggested they go elsewhere. They did. Now, to the live music. I'm going to assume that charging a $40 cover to hear live music at the bar when there are a dozen other places offering live music for covers of $5 or less is working out for Snug Harbor. It didn't work for me. I bar-hopped and enjoyed many flavors of entertainment for less than that $40. I just wish I hadn't wasted money on the food. Also, an automatic gratuity of 20% on separate checks is ridiculous. I understand for a large party, but 3 checks? Come on. I won't be recommending Snug Harbor to anyone. I think I would offer a bit more grace if the server and host were more amenable. But we got no refills, they didn't ask if we'd like dessert, and never even bothered to ask how our food was. I received better service from Willie's Chicken and Daiquiris. That shouldn't be.

Yelp
The music and venue has very few peers. Always a good experience. Sadly the food has missed the mark. What happened? Someone needs to seriously examine what is going on in the kitchen. The classic dishes feel tired and the ingredients don't seem fresh.the gumbo was quite mediocre- neither spicy nor balanced in ingredients and taste. The étouffée was a bit more tasty but the crawfish was either frozen or had spent too many days on the stove. And what ever happened to fresh bread? Why would an established place like this service sliced very meager portions on day old french bread! Eat somewhere else and enjoy the jazz.
google avatar

Yelp
The gumbo and etouffé were delicious! Our server was very attentive. Cute restaurant with jazzy art on the walls. Live music was later in the evening, check for ticket prices.

Yelp
Went for late night dinner - delicious. The fried green tomatoes & fried oysters is the perfect indecisive combo! Etouffee was just thick enough, dark spicy roux. And I rarely do dessert if it's not chocolate cake, but I went with the peach Cobbler & ice cream - good choice. It came out piping hot & sweet. Jazz band was playing in backroom, separate ticket required. In a good spot to walk along Frenchman St. & check out the other bars, too.

Yelp
This was a return visit to Snug Harbor on Frenchman Street! Always a cool place and known for their musical performances and good food. Sadly, for me, the food quality has suffered. The food was lukewarm and the dried out! The staff were personable and friendly and that helped with the overall disappointment of the meal! I say...go for the music...stick with drinks.

Yelp
Our best night in NOLA. We caught Delfeyo Marsalis with 14 other excellent musicians performing - sensational experience. Small intimate venue. Good waitress service. Buy your tickets in advance because it sells out.

Yelp
This place rocks! There's a small room for like music and an unpretentious restaurant for great food after the show. We enjoyed seeing Yusa. She's a Cuban singer who put on a great show to a pretty full house. Try the red fish when you have dinner after . It's fried perfectly. The sides we liked were collard greens and potato salad. Both tasted like someone's grandma cooked them. The shrimp and grits appetizers and the deviled eggs were the ideal start to our meal. But the portions are large and that left less room for dinner. We didn't have room for dessert. My husband had an old fashioned. I had a lemon drop. Both were really good.

Yelp
Awesome spot. Heads up don't go at the same time as their jazz concert starts. Cuz you have to wait with them. Ok food . We had fish marigny and it was amazing. Fried green tomatoes, omg yes. I had the big goombay punch and my husband had the old Elijah. Both very good. The staff were very nice. Definitely will go back.

Yatin J.

Yelp
Food and drinks are ok, not so great for the prices here We ordered the lamb chops and friend green tomatoes and peach cobbler for dessert Service is good, our waiter was friendly Jazz is supposed to be good here, but it was okay for us We saw a concert for Cuban jazz and it was okay, a lot of shouting and loud music Very different from traditional jazz

Yelp
Amazing place for live music on Frenchmen street!! We wanted to see Jason Marsalis plus the jam session, which was at 11:30pm on a weekday. It was phenomenal! We arrived an hour early and had a few drinks at the bar right outside the performance room. The goombay punch was super sweet and fruity! There was a performance going on at the time, and they had a tv anove the bar that was showing it. Could also hear it perfectly! We then stood in line when the first band finished; a ton of people showed up around 11pm to get in line. They opened up doors around 11:15pm, and there was floor seating and elevated seating! The tables on the floor were very small, but you can push them together. There's no table service. Bathrooms were clean and spacious! The performance was amazing, and the ambience of the performance hall is very intimate and warm! Would definitely come back to see another performance!

Yelp
This is our "go to" place when Port of Call is overflowing (which is always). This time we ordered the fried mushrooms to start and then we both had a burger and baked potato. Everything was so delicious. The service was great and the prices were great. We could also hear the live music being played in the next room. We will definitely go back very soon.

Yelp
Got tickets to see James Marston's Vibes and reserved a table for dinner in advance. Dinner was fine, nothing fancy but I enjoyed my NOLA sampler, a bite of someone else's shrimp poboy, and my crème brûlée. Probably a three star dining experience because service was a bit slow and the restaurant was a bit loud. Unfortunately, it took long enough to have dinner and a dessert that there was already a line in front of the music room doors and we ended up in the very front corner. If I were to do it again I would get in line half an hour before the doors open to get my pick of seats...so dinner reservation probably 90 minutes before doors open if I planned on dessert. However, the acoustics and sound system were great, so we had a great expertise anyway.

Suzanne M.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the food. It was very tasty and authentic. The waiter was very attentive and polite. He checked on us multiple times throughout. If my water glass was low, he was quick to fill it. The ambience is amazing. I enjoy jazz and came to eat and hear Delfeayo Marsalis play. It was a wonderful evening.

Yelp
Excellent free jazz concert on Wednesday nights for the price of a drink. You can listen to an hours worth of original jazz music.

Yelp
Loved the fried green tomatoes. Came with huge shrimp which were DELICIOUS. Fried chicken sandwich was very good. Get it as a po boy!! Jambalaya was delicious. Etouffee was great. Would skip peach cobbler. Great background music and vibes.

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Our first visit to New Orleans. Our first look for a jazz venue. Our first experience at deceptive marketing. Had to sit in the restaurant, hoping maybe to hear jazz from the club. Dinner/food was sub par, service was sub par, and felt like just one more table to turn over as fast as possible.

Yelp
Snug Harbor is a Frenchmen St. staple. Always offering great music for local artist. So many New Orleans legends have graced this stage long before becoming the music icons they are today. The venue is very intimate and cozy. You should most definitely check this place out if you're looking for a super cute date night. Great music, good food and amazing vibes!

Matthew M.

Yelp
Do NOT come for dinner when the live music is going. Staff was disrespectful and service was unacceptable I want to extend Snug Harbor some grace. I understand that their patrons for their Jazz club are an important source of revenue for them because they order drinks. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day. With that said, what my group witnessed having dinner yesterday was some of the most unprofessional behavior I've ever seen at a restaurant. There were 10 of us, and it took 25 minutes just to get our first round of drinks served. Once we were able to order food, the waiter missed one of the orders. when nothing was being done to quickly make us feel attended to, we talked with the waiter and he gave us attitude when giving our party member a complimentary drink, slamming down the drink and eventually the food and then running off. We planned to order a second round of drinks (again, this is a group of 10 people) of espresso martinis, which once again took a long time and by the time they arrived they were not correct. When one of our Party members explained this to the bartender, she yelled that she was "f***ing done with people" and the other bartenders apologized for the behavior. The next round of drinks were also not espresso martinis and when the bartender explained to us at our table what she put in the drink and we corrected her, she looked us and said "I don't know what you want us to do" We decided to close out and not have a second round of drinks. We spoke with the manager and told her what happened and the only thing she did was take off the second round of drinks we didn't have. When we went back to her and said this was not good enough for making things right - the manager accused us of being bad patrons and told us she just wanted us to leave. We were never unruly or mean. I can understand a large group can be a challenge, but the way we were treated was awful and unfair. If you want to go to Snug Harbor, don't go when music plays. But honestly, you should never go.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
The fare is delicious and the music venue is always worth visiting and if there just to dine you can get to see the performance on the closed circuit TV

Yelp
Came here for both dinner and a show (8pm for the show). If you want to eat prior to the show then you'll have to email them with your ticket confirmation number and let them know the time. We ate at 6:30pm and was able to enjoy our meal and head straight in to grab seats for the show. They allow people to sit down around 45 minutes prior to the start so if you want great seats then I would advise eating at 6pm to be safe (we had decent seats but they weren't centered). Items we ordered (as of 3/2022). - Oysters JAZZ-efeller - $15 - This was awesome. The oysters are baked in a delicious butter sauce with spinach and they gave us PLENTY of oysters considering the price. Would highly recommend. - Fish Marginy (blackened) - $27 - Great blackened flavor and the creole sauce was delicious. - Seafood Platter - $36 - Definitely recommended. Huge pieces of shrimp and oysters that were perfectly seasoned and fried. Quantity was good for the price. - Baked potato side (fully loaded) - $6.50 (or included depending on meal) - Fully loaded up with cheese and bacon. Delicious and would recommend. - Broccoli side - $5.00 (or included depending on meal) - It's steamed broccoli... - Sautéed Mushrooms - $2.50 (or included depending on meal) - Not bad for the price but nothing special. The show we saw was Jason Marsalis and was great fun! Ticket price was $35 per person. We sat on the second floor and had a good view along the railing. Show was ~1.5 hours. No food allowed (drink service offered). Overall we had a blast and would love to come back for the food and show!

Yelp
The famous Jazz Hall Snug Harbor... which didn't open until nightfall where all the greats have performed

Yelp
Well my friends and I popped in for dinner. We ordered and they didn't have anything that we ordered so we had to change our orders. The service was great and the staff was extremely nice despite us having to re order. The food was delicious. It was a quaint location and the bar and dining are were separated which gabs the feel you could have two different vibes when at this spot.

Debbie G.

Yelp
The host is warm and welcoming. Our dinner was delicious and the waiter was great. We decided to sit at the bar after dinner as suggested by the host, and the bartender was rude and wouldn't serve us. Stay away! She was complaining that she was too busy to get us a drink. She could have served us a cocktail in the time it took her to complain.

Yelp
I asked several people for recommendations on where to eat that might also have some live jazz music, and everyone said to go to Snug Harbor. I was happy to learn that it's a restaurant, not just a bar, so my teenage son was able to go. We arrived just after opening and were immediately seated. Unfortunately, the music is in a separate part of the restaurant, which requires tickets. Since we were there so early and not up for a late night, we enjoyed our food and then headed out. We will come back another time and get tickets to a show. The food was marvelous-we had red beans and rice, jambalaya, fried shrimp, fried chicken and broccoli. Everything we really, really good! I was full from my own meal, but couldn't help myself from finishing most of the food off my wife and son's plates too. I'm not sure what those other reviewers were talking about, but our food was delicious!

Yelp
Snug Harbor! Home to Jazz artists like Winton and Bradford Marsalis and others from New Orleans. During my visit I had the opportunity and pleasure to spend an evening with Cyrille Aimee a highly talented Jazz singer and musician from France. Snug Harbor is a quaint up close and personal venue that offers an intimate experience, reasonably priced drinks, and family-like hospitality that you only find in NOLA! Highly recommend during a visit and you can rest assured the entertainment will be excellent!

Yelp
Recommendation from 3 different people. We made dinner reservations for 8 people and prepaid for The 10:00 show. Good thing because the show was sold out. Service good. Casual place. We were dressed up but most folks were very casual. Food was good. Limited menu. We had Caesar salad. Blackened fish with broccoli and half and half combo with fish and shrimp and loaded baked potato. Drinks were good. Our server V let me sample the red beans and rice which was delicious but since I couldn't get shrimp with it I passed. Overall great chill atmosphere.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Excellent jazz music by talented musicians. Better than experience than Preservation Hall. Highly recommended!

Charles S.

Yelp
Food is average at best. Staff is over-extended. Hostess was dysthymic and did not speak. Physical layout of the restaurant and show venue is confined and crowded. The wait process to enter the show was haphazard and confusing. People entering the late show should all wait outside in a line and not in the bar area. The music was excellent. Eat elsewhere. Go for the music and the early show.

Janette M.

Yelp
Service was awful. Waited way too long for dessert and our check. Server hardly made eye contact. Don't waste your time with the bread pudding.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Was nice to eat and listen to music on Frenchman st. The shrimp Cesar salad was a hit.

Susan M.

Yelp
Worse food and service we had during our time in New Orleans. Our server was rude with an attitude and clearly did not want to be there. She slammed our wine glasses so hard on the table that she broke the stem of one on my water glass and never offered fresh water. When she delivered our food she handed the plates to us instead of placing them on the table and walked off without giving us any silverware. The gumbo was inedible and rest of the food was pretty bad too. I've heard the music venue is great but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant
google avatar

Yelp
The Service and delicious Creole food here are just unbelievably impeccable! Superb Customer Service from Waiter Jorge, front of the Restaurant Staff Emma, and Waiter Assistant Jerry. Made my Birthday celebration such a positive memorable experience. Husband and I had such a great time. 5 Stars all around!

Yelp
I've been here 3 times over several years. I'm a native to NOLA, and on my first trip, I ordered shrimp etouffee, and it was delicious, and the overall experience was very nice. This was many years ago. On another night, we stopped in and the place was packed. We found spots at the bar, and we shared and enjoyed a very good burger and potato. Very nice, other than the rude guy behind us trying to take our seats before we finished. Then we came here on the night of the Pride parade in 2023. The place not crowded at all, and we were seated and given menus immediately. Then...we waited. It was a surprisingly long wait, and when she did appear she didn't ask if we had any questions or anything, she just took our order, which was "we want a burger and a potato", to which she replied asking what we wanted on the side. It took a minute for us to realize she meant what side did we want with the burger, which of course, was the potato...okay...all good. So then we waited a while for my date's wine (I just had water already on the table). I almost went to the bar for her wine, but it did finally appear. The food came out, and the burger was much closer to rare than MR, which we ordered). Because we were sharing, I cut it in half, and we told our server they can just put the two halves on the grill and cook it more, but instead, they gave us a whole new burger, cooked pretty close to medium. But it came out pretty quickly, and it was fine. The tomato slice was so thick I almost didn't keep it on the burger, but it was fine. We were not checked in on after that, so once we finished, we waited and waited. Again, the place was very slow. Eventually I asked our hostess if we could pay at the bar, and she said she'd find our server, who appeared shortly thereafter. When she brought the check, I immediately gave her my card so that we wouldn't lose her for another long wait. So...first off - the burger/potato combo here is in the "gourmet burger" category, or what we often call in NOLA, a "Port of Call burger". That is what we got, but again, they missed the MR mark twice. And the service was just not good. She was friendly enough, but we just had long waits despite a very small crowd. Worth the trip? Sure, if you're already going to Frenchmen Street. Or if you're going to enjoy the Jazz in the back of the restaurant, sure, eat dinner here. But I won't be making any special trips down to the Marigny just to eat here.

Yelp
Snug Harbor is like a musical zoo. It's one of the best venues in New Orleans to see, and hear Endangered Species like Jazz musicians, in their native habitat. There is a restaurant and bar, in the front. They're pretty good. To my mind, you come here for the music, though. This visit, we were here to see Jason Marsalis' tribute to his father, the legendary Jazz pianist, Ellis Marsalis. It was a wonderful show. The problem is that the calendar is really spotty. It's the holidays. There are a bunch of people here. Snug is only open two nights? Bummer. I would have spent more money here, for sure, but it wasn't open to do it. DO know, BTW, if you are planning to eat here, this isn't a dinner theatre. Dining is out front. No food in the music hall. DO know, BTW, that the music hall is SMALL. It fills in quickly. Now, for the star down: Drinks. The bar is great. Getting anything from the bar, from the harried, slightly salty server, was really an exercise in frustration. After she forgot to even check us, for over an hour of the show, I gave up. Her "sweep" of the room had big blind spots. The problem? It's not that big of a room. Overall a great place. Hopefully, as COVID wanes, the schedule will return to normal.

Allyson M.

Yelp
Snug Harbor has one or two vegetarian options for the meal, the menu was good and the prices were very fair. Our server was friendly and fast even when the restaurant was packed full; drinks and food both came fast. On the night we went, a jazz band is playing which was (to our surprise) in a private room. We originally went for the band thinking that it was playing for the restaurant. BUT to watch the band you had to be placed in a private room for an extra $25 and you cannot have meal service, only some drinks. Didn't make sense and it was not worth it for us when you could go anywhere on the block and hear the jazz bands in bars for free. Not to mention, when reserving a dinner spot it told us that a band would be playing- it failed to mention it was an extra price or any other information about the show. Very misleading and made us disappointed.

Yelp
Came here while visiting NOLA on spring break. This is an lovely upscale venue for live jazz sm and good food. There's a cover to get into the part of the restaurant with jazz music, but we could actually hear music from our table, so it worked out. I had the fish in cream sauce and man... I'm a sucker for both cream sauce and seafood so, basically I was living my best life all throughout this meal! The restaurant allows you to bring your drinks in (we had gotten a big one in a souvenir cup from Bourbon St). So we had good drinks, and a great meal. I would want to go back next time and try more of their menu.

Yelp
Our favorite spot in New Orleans to catch live jazz. Everyone here is so kind and friendly. The stage and small space provides an intimate listening experience and prices are relatively reasonable overall.

Yelp
Went there for a show by Chris Thomas King. Grabbed a quick bite and I must say, one of the best crab cakes I've had.

This relaxing bistro is the perfect place to have a great meal with friends snd family while no having a good hearty home-cooked meal. Will definitely come back soon for the great experience with me and my family

Yelp
Music was great! I didn't try food, but friends were happy with cheese plates. Be noted that they don't serve food in the music area.

Yelp
This is a lovely quiet place among the loud eateries. As much as I love live music, most of it is too loud for me. This was a nice quiet place with plenty of people to indicate they had good food. Shrimp was broiled perfectly. My companion had crispy fried chicken which was about the best I ever tasted, crispy, flavorful without being greasy. We took home just-out-of- the-oven peach cobbler that was delicious.

Yelp
The food was bland. We had the fish marigny with asparagus, fried mushrooms, loaded baked potato and cheese burger. The fish had little to no taste however the shrimp (although tiny) were cooked well. The asparagus lacked flavor as well. The friend mushrooms were lightly seasoned and the sauce that came with it actually gave them a better flavor. The cheeseburger was tiny and cooked entirely too long. We ordered medium well and it came out well done and blackened. The waitress was awesome and the jazz was music was great!

Yelp
Great place for jazz. Host that greets you at the door is extremely condescending. I was on line near him and he dished it out to lots of customers in addition to me. Surprised he didn't get smacked. Tarnished the experience. The jazz musicians and stage room are fantastic.

Yelp
I cant speak for the food but the jazz show was really fun specifically the band I saw playing had good chemistry and humor which added to the great performance!

Yelp
My husband and I came here for dinner, drinks, and a show. We had a fabulous time. The restaurant is nice w/ decent NOLA food, but the concert is the best part of Snug Harbor. I definitely recommend researching the acts that are in town if you're visiting NOLA and going to one or more concerts here. Seats are first come first served, in an intimate cabaret table setting. You can get beer for $8 or fancy cocktails for upwards of $15, and tickets are very reasonably priced for the awesome experience, so overall this is a great option for a memorable night out in NOLA without an exorbitant price tag.

Yelp
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I had the etouffee and it was delicious. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich which was spicy. He was very happy that it had the extra flavor. The service was also great. Our waiter was very attentive and had great recommendations. We will definitely visit this restaurant again the next time we are in New Orleans.
